SwanCare Centres Auxiliary

We transitioned to daytime bowls on 4th April and have recommenced our traditional mid-match tea breaks; a very welcome interlude in the day’s play (except for Wednesdays when we play through and have a ‘Happy Hour’ afterwards).

The committee invites all village residents to a free concert by The Lions Big Band with the wonderful musical director, Phillip Hatton.

Our March meeting went well. Our speaker Matt Walker gave a great talk on travel and travel issues now we are free to travel again.

Afternoon tea will be served, kiosk will be open and raffle tickets on sale. This is a resident only event. Vaccination status checked on arrival for our records either by phone or paper. Bus pick up from 1:30pm and return after the show. Come and enjoy an afternoon of great music!

We would also like to extend an invitation to any residents happy to speak at any of our meetings, especially those who have had amazing adventures in life before retirement. Point of contact can be me. Other people’s adventures always interest others.

By now we will have had our April Gala Day, the Hazel Lancaster Shield on the 23rd of April and our next Gala Day will be the Keith Withers Shield, a triples match to be held on Saturday, 28th of May; members should keep reading the notice board for nomination lists, which will go up in the next couple of weeks. No outings are planned for May; our next club outing will be decided at our next committee meeting. Bentley Park Bulletin

Fish N Chips with Friends SwanCare Bentley Park Residents have been attending Fish N Chips Luncheons for multiple decades. Throughout the years there have been multiple name iterations such as ‘Fish N Chips on Stratton’ and now ‘Fish N Chips with Friends’, but no matter the name it is still one of the most popular regular catch ups on the calendar! We caught up with group coordinator, Lesley Foster, to chat to her about this fantastic group. The committee has changed many times throughout the years. “I stepped in because Frankie felt it was time to step back and I wanted to give back to the community,” said Lesley. “There are currently nine committee members, and we all share the jobs to run this event every month.” This group remains popular after many years and still manages to make the crowd smile when they walk through the door. “I think everyone likes to go out close by and catch up with village friends,” said Lesley. “The entertainment is another draw cards as well.” The event currently runs on the first Friday of the month, only missing January when many people are on holidays. “The day before of the event, Judi and I buy the salads in the morning. On the day of the Fish N Chips event the rest of the volunteers come in to complete their assigned jobs and set up,” said Lesley. “We make the platters and then the Main Production Kitchen deliver Fish and Chips.” Lesley believes that the entertainment is what keeps people coming back each month. “Sometimes we have table quizzes to win boxes of chocolates,” said Lesley. “We also always have raffles with prizes, and bands to entertain the crowd.” Each month also has a different theme which keeps it interesting for the regulars attending. “At our Easter lunch, a few people wore their ‘bunny ears’,” said Lesley. “All residents received a small bag of Easter Eggs. We even had an Easter Hunt!” The theme for May will be celebrating Mother’s Day and entertainer for May will be Jay Weston. “He is renowned for singing songs from musicals and other hits,” said Leslie. The Committee would also like to advise that Fish N Chips with friends donated a small amount towards the Bentley Park Show for them to purchase equipment, ready for this year’s show. All residents, especially new residents, are most welcome to join their monthly luncheons. Leslie and the team hope to see you there! Seating is limited and bookings must be made. Be sure to also bring your COVID-19 proof of vaccination on the day. When: Doors open 10.30am, Friday 6th May Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Lesley on 6250 0590. If call not answered, please leave a message and I will return your call. Cost: $15.00 per person. This includes drinks, nibbles, fish & chips served with a fresh garden salad, an hour of entertainment followed by afternoon tea.
