Board Game Group
Group leader, Sandie Holmes, started it to get people out of their units and mingling with others. “We have played games in our units with fellow residents for a while,” said Sandie. “We’d meet at different units each time. Once there was a few regulars that would show up, we thought we’d open it up to others in the village who wanted to join us too.” The group is very casual and usually brings their own coffee and sandwiches for dinner as play starts around dinner time. “We love being out of the house and playing games with others,” said Sandie. “If someone makes a mistake we forgive and move on because we’re all just there for fun; it’s not too competitive.”

Swan Village Bowling Club
March 2022
Although the daytime high temperatures have been stretching into the evening we have managed to continue night bowling, despite some minor restrictions due to COVID-19 rules.
There have been many different games so far at the games nights. “Each table generally has a different group of four people playing,” said Sandie. “We have played Bananagram, Up Words, and Skip Bo – which seems to be a group favourite. Last meet Mary taught us how to play ‘Secrets’ and next meeting a table will be playing Monopoly.”
The first Gala Day of the year will be the Murray
So why does Sandie and her group meet up? “Games are great for you mentally,” said Sandie. “The games we choose are generally just hard enough to use your brain, but easy enough to still hold conversations.”

The group finishes around 8pm with some ‘chit chat’ and meet every first and third Friday of the month. If you’re a SwanCare resident who would like to join in on the fun, please see below details about their next catch up. The group hopes to see a few new faces soon!

Bentley Park Bulletin
The Board Games Group recently had their inaugural meet up. A great night was had by all with lots of laughs and generosity of game knowledge passed onto those uncertain on how to play.
Ranyard Shield on Saturday 19th March with teams of four. Team nomination notices will go up in the Pavilion soon. For those wishing to play, please put your names down.
Thank you to all the people who helped to make this evening possible. After expenses have been settled a donation of $50.00 will be made to ‘Guide Dogs for the Blind’. This will be matched by Pam from the line dancers, so a total of $100.00 will be donated. Thanks also to the Bentley Park Social Club who sponsored Adam. Our next dance in March is scheduled to fall two days after the St Patrick’s Day event, so we will not have a dance in March. Our next dance will be Easter Saturday 16th April. Detail to follow. Contact: Sue Lewis on 6250 0850
Writing Club We would love a few more regular members to attend. So if you are thinking about it, please come along and expand your knowledge so as to write your family history, articles for your artistic or sporting group, or even for Letters to the Editor. You will be given topics to think and write about, leading you to writing fantasy pieces, solid news articles, or poems. Wednesday or Saturday, currently gathering at 6pm for a 6:30pm start. We might be going back to daytime bowls during March, so keep an eye on the noticeboard for the date. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before, we’ll soon show you the basics. When: 6:00pm Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays Where: Leisure Precinct Bowling Green Contact: Chris Simms on 0419 963 395
Social Dance Our special dance with Adam Penn as our DJ was a great success. We joined in all sorts of styles of dancing. Highlights included one of my medical students and her friend from Curtin performing a ‘Bollywood’ self-choreographed dance. Adam brought along two of his very talented 15-year-old competition dances who performed in all three ballroom styles. A delicious supper was enjoyed by all.

Significant vision loss is traumatic for anyone, particularly the older you are when it happens. It is very easy to sink into depression and think that life is over, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are people around you who are having the same problems. You are not alone! Why not come along to our support group and get to know others in the same boat. You might be surprised who you come across.
