July 2012 bentley park resident newsletter Across My Desk CEO’s Report Well it’s the half way mark of the year and we are now on the downward side of the slope to Christmas, how quickly the year has flown by. June has always been a busy month and this year it certainly lived up to expectations. There was an incredible amount of activity occurring during the month, and I will do my best to try and capture the main items for you.
High Commendation for SwanCare Group At the recently held 2012 Aged Care Excellence Awards, SwanCare Group, being one of the four state finalists was acknowledged with a High Commendation for the outstanding achievements made over the last 12 months.
CACP Program is Gaining Momentum The roll-out of the Community Aged Care service delivery is proceeding extremely well. The policies and procedures are now all in place, and the Department of Health and Ageing has approved SwanCare Group’s status as an approved provider of this service. It is anticipated that the 20 licenses that we have been initially supplied with will be fully activated from our current retirement village residents. Letters and brochures outlining the new service are in the process of being finalised, and they will be distributed during July. These brochures will provide an easy to understand explanation of the service, how it works, and the type of support that you will be able to tap into. As an organisation we are very excited about the potential benefits that this extra layer of service and support will provide to our resident population. We are still earmarking the 1st of October, 2012 as the start date for this extremely important service delivery to commence. However, at the current rate that the roll-out is progressing we may be in a position to activate the service sooner.
Bentley Park Resident Reference Group Formed The judges awarded the commendation, because, in their words, the turn-around achieved by the organisation was so exemplary that it deserved special recognition. This is great validation to all the staff whom have worked so hard to achieve this great result.

During June the Bentley Park Residents Reference Group was formed. You may recall that I called for nominations in the May Tidings, and gave residents until the end of May to submit their applications to become a representative on this inaugural group. I was absolutely staggered by the response,
Bentley Park Social Club Sunday Concert - 8th July
we were literally inundated with applications. It is really pleasing to know that we have so many residents that are passionate about our village and want to provide their input into the future plans and longer term developments of this site. The only trouble with receiving so many applications, is determining the final numbers. Ideally I was looking for a group of no more than 10 residents, anymore and it becomes too unwieldy. In deciding the ultimate make-up of the group we sought a genuine cross-section from all areas of our Community. We also purposely looked for a mix of ages, and a mix of time actually residing in our village. Thus the group consists of some long term residents and also some newer residents. The Group needs to have diversity and we certainly have achieved that. I would like to personally thank all those residents that took the time to submit an application. The Resident Reference Group for Bentley Park will hold its first official meeting in July, and I am pleased to advise you that the group consists of the following residents; Nancy Coe, Maureen Thompson, Don Pederick, Carol Wellstead, Tom Brazier, Sue Griffiths, Jim Leavy, Doug Warnes, Pam Seager, and Ivor Roberts. This Group will be used as a sounding board for ideas and thoughts that will be fed into the planning processes for the next stage of the Bentley Park redevelopment. Part of their role will be to also talk to, and gather ideas and thoughts from the broader resident community, so if you get an opportunity in the coming months please feel free to have a chat with any one of these Reference Group members and pass along your thoughts and ideas.
