At BEN & LAEL, coppersmith Ben Caldwell designs one-ofa-kind, functional metalwork to bring beauty into the lives and homes of others. Among his most coveted sculptures is this COPPER AND ENAMEL UNITED STATES FLAG which is one in his series of flag sculptures. In this sculpture, he starts by recreating the design of the United States flag on a 27" by 45"sheet of copper with enamel powder. The copper and enamel powder are heated under extremely high heat in unison to bond. Ben then uses his artistic skill to form the flag instinctually. Classically trained by nationally known metal artist, Terry Tally, Nashville native Ben Caldwell works with copper, silver and enamel to create extraordinary, timeless works of art. All of his work is custom hammered, raised and chased by hand, resulting in quality, unique enamel sculpture. Gathering inspiration from old silver pieces and lovely sculptural forms found in nature and using an amalgamation of glass, fire and copper, Ben Caldwell paints with fire.
