During the 1920s, Paris became the epicenter of culture and style, embracing extravagance, diversity and creativity. Artists flocked from all over the world to be at the heart of it all as they drew inspiration from cubism, modernism and neoclassicism to create the ‘total’ style we know and love today. Cultural collaborations among artists created the rich social and artistic legacy that made a lasting impact on the world. One particularly important introduction was made by American composer Cole Porter and his wife Linda, when they connected Italian jeweler FulcoDi Verdura to French designer Coco Chanel. Verdura became her first personal jewelry designer, helping create her signature look. The deput of Verdura’s Fifth Avenue flagship location in 1939 gained him a high-profile among New York society and fashion’s best dressed list, including style icons Diana Vreeland and Babe Paley, enticed by Verdura’s bold yet understated “chic.”
