SABER 5x36

GUARANTEED TO LAST 50,000 LIVE ROUNDS swampfoxoptics.com

MEET THE SABER

Saber is the simple and tough 5x prism scope that uses its extra wide field of view to achieve mastery at medium range. Its big and bright sight picture provides positive target identification and confidence to make hits from hundreds of yards away. For close quarters situations where 5x is too much magnification, Saber features dual mounts to attach offset dot sights.

Features include:

• Fast acquisition, high precision MOA

Ladder Reticle

• True ten-degree field of view without sacrificing usable eye relief

• Glass etched reticle with adjustable fast-focus eyepiece

• Motion sensing auto-on/auto-off reticle illumination

READ THIS FIRST! ADJUSTING THE FAST FOCUS EYEPIECE

Saber features a glass etched reticle and adjustable ocular ring, called the fast focus eyepiece. The etched reticle is physically located on a glass lens inside the optic, not created from focused light like a red dot. Saber’s etched reticle appears as black with illumination off, making it usable even with a dead battery or no battery at all. The fast focus eyepiece changes the position of the ocular lens (the lens closest to your eye when you look through the scope). This changes the focus of the reticle only, not the focus of objects you look at through the scope. You can perform this step before you have mounted the scope to your rifle.

The eyepiece comes turned all the way to the right, closed for shipping purposes, but this is not ideal for everyone's eyes.

The fast focus eyepiece MUST be properly adjusted for your eye to maximize speed, accuracy, and shooting comfort with the Saber 5x prism scope. Do this before you do any shooting with Saber, even before sighting in your rifle.

ADJUSTING THE FAST

2. Bring the scope up and look through the reticle, take note of how fuzzy or sharp the reticle is.

5

Everyone’s eyes are different, someone else looking through your scope may need to readjust the fast focus eyepiece to suit them. FOCUS
EYEPIECE
1. Pick out a blank space such as a plain white wall or a patch of blue sky, look at it until your eye is focused at infinity.
3. Adjust the eyepiece until the reticle is sharper, repeat steps 1-3 again as needed until optimum reticle focus is achieved.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY

Saber uses a single CR123a battery mounted on the right side of the scope body. Removing the battery cap, install the battery with the positive (+) side facing the muzzle of the firearm. The battery can be removed and replaced without removing Saber from your firearm, avoiding the need to re-zero your optic after a battery swap.

6

ADJUSTING RETICLE ILLUMINATION

Reticle illumination is optional and controlled by push buttons located on top of the Saber. This location makes brightness levels easy to manipulate for both left-handed and right-handed shooters.

Saber features 10 brightness settings. Saber is available in red illumination or green illumination variants. Press the “Up” arrow to increase brightness and the “Down” arrow to decrease brightness. The “Up” arrow is shaped like a dome (convex) and the “Down” arrow is shaped like a dish (concave) so you can feel the difference even in low light situations. The first two brightness settings, N1 and N2, are compatible with night vision devices and are very difficult to perceive with the naked eye.

7

ADJUSTING RETICLE ILLUMINATION

To turn reticle illumination completely off, press and hold the “Down” arrow for approximately three seconds until you see the reticle go black. When the “Up” arrow is pressed, the Saber will automatically resume the previously selected brightness level. Settings 9 and 10 are “daylight visible” and intended for use while outdoors in bright sunlight. In low light situations these brightness settings will make the reticle appear to bloom and lose resolution. The correct amount of reticle brightness creates good contrast with the target.

AUTO ON / AUTO OFF RETICLE ILLUMINATION

Saber includes Shake ‘N Wake motion-sensing auto on/auto off reticle illumination. After approximately 225 seconds (just under four minutes) without motion, the reticle will shut itself off to preserve battery life. Saber will draw no power from the battery during this time. As soon as Saber is moved the reticle will “wake up” and immediately return to the previous brightness setting.

8

Saber’s elevation adjustment turret is located on the top of the scope body, with the windage turret along the right side. The turrets are a flush fit design that does not require caps for protection or waterproofing.

• To adjust point of impact up, turn the elevation turret clockwise.

• To adjust point of impact down, turn the elevation turret counter-clockwise.

• To adjust point of impact right, turn the windage turret clockwise.

• To adjust point of impact left, turn the windage turret counter-clockwise.

You can use coins, a screwdriver, or even the sides of the included Swampfox combo wrench to make your adjustments. Remember that the adjustments described above describe the change in point of impact direction. Don’t worry about which direction the reticle is moving internally, just adjust point of impact.

9 ZEROING THE SABER 5X36

ZEROING THE SABER 5X36

Sight in your rifle so that point of impact matches the center aiming point of the reticle at your chosen distance. Zeroing distance can depend on many factors, but for 5.56 rifles with 16” barrels we suggest a 50 yard zero.

Adjustment value is 0.5 MOA per click, so at 50 yards it will take four clicks to shift the point of impact one inch. At 100 yards it will take two clicks to shift the point of impact one inch.

THE MINUTE OF ANGLE RETICLE

Saber’s Minute of Angle (MOA) reticle provides 40 MOA of vertical holds in 4 MOA increments for longer range shooting with any caliber. Combine the MOA reticle with your load data and a quality ballistic calculator to determine custom holdovers for your exact rifle.

11

The Saber MOA reticle is based on Minute of Angle (MOA) subtensions. MOA is an angular measurement of 1/60th of a degree. 1 MOA measures exactly 1.047” at 100 yards, but most shooters round it down to 1” at 100 yards, called “shooter’s MOA”. Because MOA represents an angle, not a fixed dimension, it continues to grow by 1.047” per 100 yards. For practical purposes it is easiest to think of 1 MOA as 1” at 100 yards, 2” at 200 yards, 3” at 300 yards, and so on.

RANGING USING MOA

In order to range targets or objects using the Saber’s MOA reticle, the shooter needs to know how to use the MOA ranging formula:

Target Size (inches) x 95.5 = Range in Yards

Image Size in MOA

To obtain an accurate range, you must know the approximate size of the target in inches. Using either vertical or horizontal MOA marks, measure the target’s apparent size in MOA while looking through the scope.

Example: Assuming this combatant is 6 feet (72 inches) tall, and his body length appears to be 16 MOA tall when looking through the scope, how far away is he?

72 x 95.5

16 MOA

= 430 yards

13

Saber 5x36 features twin back up dot sight mounting platforms, one on each side of the scope body in a sidecar arrangement.

• Remove the cover plate using a T10 wrench

• Attach the optic footprint plate using the provided M3 screws. Do not exceed 15 inch-pounds torque.

• Attach a Swampfox Sentinel series dot to the optic footprint plate using the provided M3 screws. Do not exceed 15 inch-pounds torque.

To transition from Saber 5x to the Sentinel backup dot sight, simply roll the rifle over about 20 degrees until the back up optic’s window aligns with the eye and the dot appears in your field of view.

MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning your optic lenses, make sure to blow away any dust or grit on the lens to prevent the lens from scratching. Always use a soft cloth when cleaning your lens.
