THE SWACU NEWSLETTER FALL 2020 On September 22, 2020, SWACU celebrated our 45th birthday. When 2020 began, we anticipated a huge celebration of this milestone with our members and staff, but as the year progressed it became clear that it would be a much more scaled back observance. Instead, we celebrated with some internal 1975 disco party fun with our staff. More importantly, we took time to reflect on what is meaningful to us as an organization and how we were able to show the love to our members during the hardest times many have ever seen. Throughout the pandemic we assisted members with mortgage and consumer loan modifications, approved loan payment deferrals and debt consolidation loans. We have driven even more of our business to be conducted electronically to keep both our members and our staff safe during the peak of the pandemic. We have heard from so many of you. We know some of you have lost your job or helped your company stay strong by taking time off with partial pay or in some cases you have taken early retirement. For most of us, this year does not look like we hoped it would when it began. But we are all still here, moving forward and persevering together. We are so happy you have chosen to have the special relationship with us called membership. You’re more than a number to us; you are important, and you matter to us. It is my desire that you experience this feeling through every touchpoint and interaction with SWACU. There is a phrase that is vital to Southwest Airlines Federal Credit Union (and all credit unions), you may have heard it before: ONCE a member, ALWAYS a member. That means no matter how your employment may have changed, or how your finances may have been altered, you always have a place with us at SWACU. WHEN TRAVELING................................... y Always contact SWACU if you are traveling outside of your normal geographic footprint. y Visit swacu.org, under the Manage menu, review the “Fraud Protection” page to ensure you are not traveling to a country where your cards will be blocked. This would also include your home and mobile banking login. This is done to protect you and your money.

Annual Meeting
We will hold our Annual Meeting at 5:15 pm on Thursday, December 10, 2020. The Annual Meeting will be held at Southwest Airlines Federal Credit Union which is located at 2430 Shorecrest Dr., Dallas, TX 75235. This year there will be one position open for reelection on the Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, has nominated one member for each Board position to be filled.

Mr. Mercer retired from Southwest Airlines in 2018 with 42 years of service. He spent 35 years in management of reservations, technical support desk, software development, asset management and project management. He also has a proven record in running an organization in areas of budget, people, operations and the ability to adjust based on changing requirements from internal or external sources. Further nominations may be made by official petition signed by 500 eligible members. Official petitions and the rules and instructions for the completion of the official petition may be obtained by contacting Carol Hughes, Executive Assistant, at the Credit Union home office which is located at 2430 Shorecrest, Dallas, Texas 75235, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Official petitions must be completed in full compliance with the election rules as set forth in the rules and instructions for the completion of the official petition and must include each signer’s signature and printed name, the last 4 digits of the signer’s member number, and the signer’s complete address and telephone number. Members who are 18 years of age or older and who meet certain requirements under the Federal Credit Union Act and the Bylaws of Southwest Airlines Federal Credit Union are eligible for election. Official petitions must be accompanied by a signed statement from the nominee that he or she is agreeable to the nomination and will accept office if elected and should also include a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Elected officials are legally responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Credit Union and for compliance with State and Federal laws. Official petitions must be filed with the Secretary of the Board of Directors at the Credit Union home office which is located at 2430 Shorecrest, Dallas, Texas 75235, by 4:00 p.m. on October 28, 2020 which is the closing date for receiving nominations by petition. If no official petitions are received by 4:00 p.m. on October 28, 2020, there will be no election by ballot and no nominations from the floor. When only one member is nominated for each position to be filled, each nominee shall be deemed elected by general consent or acclamation. If there is more than one nominee for any position, the election shall be by mail ballot and the Secretary of the Board of Directors shall cause printed ballots to be mailed to members eligible to vote. In such event, the election shall be determined by plurality vote.
