Q2 Update

This quarter the Alumni Association continued to focus on listening, learning, and contributing in small progressive steps by engaging and organizing the Advisory Board into committees to support the focus areas of improving alumni communications, leveraging networking, and increasing alumni engagement.

By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.

Welcome Class of 2023

New Alumni

Alumni Association Vice President Paul Candland (‘22), Jessi Whipple (‘10) and Provost James Lambert welcomed the Class of 2023 into the Alumni Association with an invitation to always be a Knight at a special graduation luncheon.

Alumni Voice

Alumni Association President Scott McKeon (‘01) participated in and represented alumni at the Southern Virginia University Board of Trustees meeting on April 13–16 and was appointed to represent the alumni while serving on the Presidential Search Committee. The committee is dedicated to finding the right person who will build on the wonderful foundation laid by our former University leaders. Please send any recommendations for our University President to presidentialsearch@svu.edu.

Alumni Engagement

Ashley Merrill (‘11) helped arrange a multi-stake Super Saturday event featuring Southern Virginia University’s acapella group, Accolade, in Little Rock, Arkansas where youth learned more about Southern Virginia University and what it means to be a Knight.

Alumni Spotlight

Jefferson Chandler (‘17)

Jefferson recently graduated with his medical degree from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Medical School. Jefferson is the husband of Amy Chandler and the proud father of his two children. He continues to live a life of service not only through his career in medicine, but also as an active volunteer in his community.

Chrissy Egbert (‘15)

Chrissy completed her Ph.D. at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Fall 2022. While at BYU, she was a Research Fellow at the Simmons Center for Cancer Research. Chrissy now works at Recursion Pharmaceuticals in Salt Lake City as a scientist on their oncology team, where they leverage technology to identify novel insights in biology to target for new therapeutics to treat cancer patients and improve lives.
