Our Mission & Vision
Southern Virginia University is a private, self-reliant, residential university aligned with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints* and its principles and values.
Our mission is to gather faithful Latter-day Saints and like-minded students, lift them in intellect, character, and spirituality, and launch them into successful lives and careers.
We seek to establish a replicable self-sustaining model of higher education that can serve Latter-day Saints throughout the world.
* Southern Virginia University is a non-profit institution that is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sponsor Strategic Initiatives
Over the last decade, Southern Virginia University’s enrollment and revenues nearly doubled thanks to investments in people, programs, and strategic initiatives.
Whether it’s attracting and retaining world-class employees, creating and building programs that support students, or investing in force-multiplying software and technology, giving to the President’s Priority fund empowers university leadership to use your gift for the greatest need.

Sponsor Scholarships
We keep tuition as low as possible to make our premium education affordable for faithful Latter-day Saints and like-minded students. In fact, we currently charge less than half the price of comparable private colleges and universities.*
In addition to affordable tuition, we offer nearly $6 million in tuition discounts every year to help reduce burdensome student debt. We award these discounts to more than 95% of our students in the form of institutional scholarships for:
• Academics: Awarded for academic achievement.
• Need: Awarded based on economic need.
• Missionary Service: Awarded to Returned Missionaries.
• Seminary Attendance: Awarded to Seminary graduates.

Sponsor Technology
As an Apple Distinguished School—an honor awarded to only a handful of colleges in the country—we equip every student and professor with an iPad to enhance learning outcomes while leveling the technological playing field regardless of economic means.
Using the latest Apple technology and supporting software, we strive to meet the unique and evolving learning needs of the rising generation while reducing student costs, such as textbooks. This tech empowers students, facilitates innovation in the classroom, and disrupts traditional, lecture-based teaching methods in favor of collaborative learning.

Sponsor the Arts
The Arts provide an opportunity for students to hone their talents and perform in the spotlight—skills that will serve them throughout their lives and careers. Nearly one-third of our students participate in performing or visual arts, well above the national average. In many ways, the Arts are the heart and soul of our campus.
Because the Arts help recruit incremental students who may not have attended otherwise, sponsoring these programs also generates an annual return on investment for the university.

Sponsor a Team
With 27 athletics teams, we’re home to the only NCAA DIII athletics program for Latter-day Saints. In the classroom and on the field, student-athletes gain unparalleled life experiences. Competing alongside faith-supportive teammates and coaches, our student-athletes learn to perform in every facet of their lives. Because athletic teams help recruit incremental students who may not have attended otherwise, sponsoring these programs also generates an annual return on investment for the university.

Make a Real Difference
Due to our size, resourcefulness, and one-of-a-kind mission, we believe your dollar will go further at Southern Virginia University than at any other institution.
Hank Rowan started “one of the greatest explosions in educational philanthropy,”* by giving a transformational $100 million to Glassboro State College—now Rowan University. When asked why he didn’t make this gift to his own alma mater, MIT, he said:
*Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History Podcast S1 E6, “My Little Hundred Million”
I’m sure they would do good things with my money; they’d build a building or do something positive but it wouldn’t make the difference that’s gonna make down here. I enjoy making a difference in this world.
