This subject offers pupils the opportunity to study how a computer works – what happens when you switch a computer on and what goes on inside the processor. Students will also develop their skills in designing, writing, testing and refining programs using a high-level programming language and use their skills in a variety of programming tasks.
Examination One: 50% One hour 30 minutes Computer systems: This will introduce pupils to the central processing unit (CPU), computer memory and storage, data representation, wired and wireless networks, network topologies, system security and system software. It also looks at ethical, legal, cultural and environmental concerns associated with computer science.
Examination Two: 50% One hour 30 minutes Computational thinking, algorithms and programming: Pupils will gain a deeper understanding of the concepts covered in paper examination one and additionally develop skills and understanding in computational thinking: algorithms, programming techniques, producing robust programs, computational logic and translators.
