The Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Business has been designed to develop a thorough knowledge, understanding and relevant competences for the business sector. Entry requirement The Cambridge Technical is open to all students in the Sixth Form and is recommended to those students with the highest level of self-motivation, as a lot of work is student centered and driven. In addition, knowledge of one or more real world businesses would be a distinct advantage, as being able to apply real world examples to business theory is a crucial element for gaining the higher achievement grades. While the course is opened to all students in the Sixth form, and all can achieve at the highest level, prior study at GCSE level in either Business or Economics would be helpful. Course structure

The course is made up of five units in total; three mandatory units and two optional units. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. To achieve the overall qualification, students must achieve at least a pass in all internally assessed units of which there are three, and at least a near pass in the externally assessed (examination) units of which there are two. External examinations can be retaken. The overall grades for the qualification are Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. A Distinction* carries 56 UCAS points, Distinction carries 48, Merit carries 32 and a Pass carries 16.
