Stability in a time of uncertainty

For Heather, moving from an apartment to a rental house meant her kids finally had a safe place to play outside. But when she was laid off from her job and fell behind on rent, she worried she could be on the verge of homelessness – again. That’s when she reached out to St. Vincent de Paul.

Heather’s call for help was answered by Resurrection of Our Lord Conference, a small but mighty group of Vincentians who help hundreds of West Price Hill neighbors with basic needs each year. Heather says she was within days of receiving an eviction notice when Sharon, the Vincentian who had taken on her case, called her to tell her St. Vincent de Paul could help.

In addition to funds raised by Resurrection of Our Lord Church parishioners, Sharon had secured funding from two other local Conferences through a process called twinning. She also applied and received aid from the Ed & Joann Hubert Family Conference Assistance Fund to pull together the entire sum – nearly $1,500 – Heather needed to keep her family in their home.

Now back to work, Heather says Sharon was like “an angel” during her time of need. “She went above and beyond to help me,” Heather recalls.

In the past year, St. Vincent de Paul distributed over $712,604 in direct assistance, most commonly for rent or utilities, to over 1,500 families through the Ed & Joann Hubert Family Conference Assistance Fund, a 107% increase over fiscal year 2020.

Thanks to this critical resource, the generosity of many supporters at Cincinnati’s Catholic parishes and the steadfast work of its Vincentians, St. Vincent de Paul served 36,241 neighbors through its Conferences in 2021, helping them to find stability – and hope.
