Brief TITTUT! Was our proposal for the competition BO2049. An idea competition asking the question how will the nordic villa look like in the year 2049 and how will we live in it? The competition wanted us to focus on the materials glass and wood. Materials that the organizers of the competitions deemed sustainable.

Project Our project started from the desire to rethink the villa. We do not believe that the one family villa is a sustainable way to dwell. Rather we wanted to see the villa as a home were many different people and groups of people can live together. Single people, couples share a roof but each have their private spaces. Our proposals departs from the notion of organizing rooms according to function. Instead we speak of spaces that go from private to public and everything in between. TITTUT! is a house that protects the internal community while reaching out to the street and the life outside of the home.

THE GRID TITTUT! starts with a site. In this case a small town context with nearby buildings.

A grid with the dimensions 3x3 meters is superimposed over the site. The grid divides, establishes directions and creates borders. The grid also starts a dialogue with the elements of the site and starts to define the size of the future building.

THE SHIFTED GRID A shifted grid is superimposed on the original grid to create tension between two different directions. The shift also creates an overlapping that frees the system from orthogonality. It allows for skewed angles and dynamic spaces within a system that is anchored in what we know, the orthogonal grid.

THE WALLS The walls of the house encapsulate the climate controlled volume of the house.

The walls are also in glass fiber supported by a system of wooden pillars and beams.

Their placement is decided with help from the shifted grid which makes it possible to create both expected and unexpected spaces. A variation in rooms that allow for many different functions and for a great diversity in the people living here.

THE FRAMEWORK The framework of the house is based on a pillar-beam-system in CLT-wood, where the pillar placement is based on the shifted grid and the wall placement. The load bearing system makes the construction possible and connects the inner rooms to the outer shell of the building.

THE SHELL The shell is the outer barrier of the home towards the street. A threshold that simultaneously relates to the street and the home. A wall of glass fiber with wooden supports that partly hides the home but at the same time unites the street and the home through its openings. Behind the shell a zone will be created that is not climate controlled med covered with a roof. A zone where the contact with the street is as natural as the contact with the home.

THE ROOF The roof is aligned with the outer shell and is covered with solar panels placed in a grid like pattern relating to the outer shell.

The roof also consists of glass fiber sheets.

The glass fiber allows for light and heat from the sun to enter the building. This is utilized for the heating of the house and for the need of natural light in the winter.

SPATIAL DIAGRAMS The house can be divided into different zones, the private bedrooms, the iside living areas, the semi public non climate controlled zone and the public streetlife.

BRÄDGÅRD Brief

Brädgård was our competition entry for the competition Timber Pavilion by Buildner. The challenge was to create a pavilion with a footprint of maximum 50 square meters, using timber as the primary material. The goal was to highlight the positive attributes of timber.

Project

Brädgård which is the Swedish name for lumberyard is a pavilion that uses the necessity of drying timber to its advantage. The pavilion will be built of undried planks that are taken directly from the sawmill. Brädgård will be constructed with only planks and straps to ensure that no damage is made to the lumber. The temporary pavilion will then stand in an urban park for 10 months, the time it takes for lumber to dry up to a point where it can be used in construction. In the context we have designed the pavillion to create a spatially unique experience with places to sit and exhibition walls for posters about the pavillion and timber as a construction material. After the drying period the pavilion will be dismantled and all the planks will be sold off to be used as construction material.

PROJECT TIMELINE

Responsibly sourced wood is cut down and sent to a sawing mill

In the sawing mill the logs are cut to planks with the dimensions x x x. The cut planks are then sent to the pavilion site to dry up.

On the site the undried planks are then stacked according to the design of our pavilion. In order for the planks to dry up the pavilion will remain for 10 months.

After 10 months the pavilion will be dismantled and all the planks will be sold off to be used as construction material.

GEOMETRIC CONCEPT

The design of the pavilion originates from three cubes of stacked timber.

Drying timber planks are layered with supporting planks in between.

The timber planks are then offset according to our design. This offsetting creates roofing, seating areas and diverse exhibition spaces.

EROSION Brief

In the second year of architecture at Lund University students have to create some sort of furniture and a piece of cloting relating to a theme. This year the theme was, the sea.

Project

Rather than creating estetic objects we decided that we wanted to create a narrative. A narration that was to be told through the two objects and ourselves. When we enter the piece of clothing we become the ocean and the furniture starts off as just a piece of layered cardboard glued together. Then the ocean starts to interact with the materia.
