ABOUT US Inaugurated as a grassroots non-profit film festival in 2012, the ICFF has, in 5 years, grown to the the largest Italian film festival outside of Italy. Each year, ICFF is proud to present an inspiring showcase of the best new Italian and international cinema.

The ICFF takes place every June during Ontario’s “Italian Heritage Month” and is presented in more Canadian cities each year, including Toronto, Vaughan. Niagara, Hamilton, Montreal and Quebec City.

Using the power of the moving image to both entertain and educate, ICFF defies conventional perspectives on complex and challenging issues facing both the Italian and global communities. All ICFF films are subtitled in English (or French in the Province of Quebec) as most are in Italian or other foreign languages.

Every year the festival presents an international collection of feature films, documentaries and shorts, including premieres, advance screenings and independent films. Screenings are supplemented by guest appearances by filmmakers, actors, authors, academics and other expert speakers and complemented by Q&A sessions.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS The ICFF is deeply dedicated to the next generation. Each year, the festival features specialized streams of programming designed to inspire, educate, and support youth and emerging film industry professionals at many levels.

FASHI-ON. This initiative, created in collaboration with Ryerson University, is part of the festivalâ€™s Official Closing Events and features some of Ryersonâ€™s top fashion design students. Each year, students participate in a department-wide contest to design outfits inspired by new and noteworthy Italian films and artists. The top 5 finalists are given an allowance of $500 to create the garment and a short film showcasing their designs.

ICFF Junior invites thousands of students aged 8-16 from over 40 schools to experience unique, challenging, and educational local and foreign-language films which would otherwise not be available to young students. ICFF Jr provides educators with an alternative teaching method that respects a variety of learning styles.

INDUSTRY DAY welcomes internationally-acclaimed filmmakers and producers. Hosted by SIRT at Pinewood Toronto Studies, industry professionals and press interact with some of the best in the business during a day-long series of interactive workshops, presentations, panel and roundtable discussions.CP24 Breakfast Television on site for a live broadcast.

In 2017 the ICFF will expand its audience beyond the Italian community to reach the Canadian public through partnerships with other festivals, government agencies, and cultural institutions. These partnerships are vital in the development of a more varied program that addresses different audience perspectives.

AWARDS & SPECIAL GUESTS The festival winners are announced at the ICFF Awards Ceremony on the final day of the festival. The event attracts actors and directors, press and international audiance.

PEOPLE CHOICE AWARD 2016 - “QUO VADO” Moviegoers cast their ballots for the Best Feature with winners receiving the ICFF “People’s Choice Award” on Closing Night. The winners receive a statuette created by renowned artist Silvio Mastrodascio.

FILM CRITICS AWARD 2016 - THEY CALLED ME JEEG The Angela Baldassarre Memorial Award is presented in memory of a gifted Toronto film critic who lost her battle with cancer on in 2007. The Critic’s Choice Jury included members of the Toronto Film Critics Association

The festival provides a platform for short films to gain visibility in Canada, as we acknowledge the importance of this often undervalued art. Each year, one short film receives the ICFF Award for Best Short Film and CAD $1000.

This award is chosen by the ICFF Jr student jury based on a criteria of the Six Elements of Film (script, direction, acting, editing, sound, and cinematography)

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2016 - CLAUDIA CARDINALE Claudia Cardinale, the actress who more than any other embodies the history of Italian cinema, was given a Life Time Achievement Award at the 2016 Italian Contemporary Film Festival, held in Toronto and other Canadian cities. Claudia Cardinale has more than 110 films and 30 Italian and international awards to her credit. She has worked with the most prestigious directors, as Visconti, Fellini, Zurlini,

Leone, Bolognini, Herzog and De Oliveira, as the protagonist of high quality and astounding successful films. The ICFF awarded her at the presentation of the film All Roads Lead to Rome, featuring her and Raoul Bova. The TIFF Bell Lightbox was crowded with a vast and enthusiastic audience, who honoured her with a standing ovation, conquered by her talent and her charm.

2015 - ROBERTO BENIGNI The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Roberto Benigni & Nicoletta Braschi who were recognized and honoured for their achievement in Italian cinema. ICFF along with TIFF presented a retrospective on the Italian onscreen and real-life couple, commemorating their lifeâ€™s work.

2014 - CARLO VERDONE Lifetime Achievement Award Carlo Verdone, who for almost 40 years has written and directed some of the best and most popular comedies in Italy.

OPENING & CLOSING PARTIES ICFF has become known for its glamorous events, especially the Opening and the Closing parties. In 2016, the ICFF Opening Party was held at Roy Thompson Hall and the Closing Party at The Ritz Carlton Hotel. The events featured entertainment, an exquisite culinary experience, and an opportunity to share the passion of cinemaâ€ŚGuest stars in attendance!
