Samsa page 264 Inspired by Indonesian carpentry, Venezuelan-born Balinese designer Maximilian Jencquel created Samsa with his signature humble timeless aesthetic in mind. The teak frames are reminiscent of teak scraps Jencquel sees regional carpenters reuse as useful objects. “They are improvised pieces of art, maybe comparable to Jazz music,” says Jencquel. “They are creations of the soul for the soul.”

The original was designed by American designer Francis Mair in the 1950s. Brad Ascalon Studio NYC Brad Ascalon’s eponymous award-winning studio was founded in 2006. The multidisciplinary designer specializes in furniture for the contract, hospitality and residential markets, as well as lighting, packaging and other consumer products. Bannenberg & Rowell Bannenberg & Rowell Ltd is a direct descendant of the legendary studio Jon Bannenberg Ltd. The convention-breaking studio was founded by Director Dickie Bannenberg’s father in London in the early 1960s. Dickie Bannenberg and Simon Rowell continue the vision of the founder and lead the design team in new directions: working with all the major shipyards, designing residences for private clients and real estate developers, collaborating with furniture makers and developing other creative partnerships.

Bonetti / Kozerski Italian Architect Enrico Bonetti and British Architect Dominic Kozerski founded their Studio in New York in 2000.

Laetitia de Allegri (born in Lausanne, Switzerland) and Matteo Fogale (born in Montevideo, Uruguay) are inspired both by nature and everyday environments, and they champion combinations of craft and industrial processes. Christophe Delcourt Christophe Delcourt is not only a committed and daring designer, he also is an ardent defender of French craft industry. He launched his own furnishing company in the late 1990s and soon stood out with his pieces of furniture combining elegant lines and raw materials. John Dickinson John Dickinson, an interior and furniture designer, is heralded as one of the 20th century’s most important and acclaimed designers. Dickinson created pieces that are easily identifiable yet difficult to duplicate. Dickinson was known for his often surprising combinations of textures and natural materials, innovative borrowing from the past, spare but striking rooms, monochromatic palette and sometimes quirky furniture designs.

Povl B. Eskildsen Povl B. Eskildsen is a Danish designer known for his attention to detail and expertise in furniture production. From his Aarhus studio, Eskildsen prioritizes designs that complement traditional aesthetics and beautiful raw materials. His Ellen Collection reflects this classic point of view.

Jean-Pierre Geelen After graduating as product designer in 1983, Jean-Pierre Geelen began working with renowned Belgian product designer Axel Enthoven and became a partner at Enthoven Associates Design Consultants in 1989. During his tenure Jean-Pierre was involved in hundreds of projects ranging from consumer electronics to furniture design. Geelen has earned multiple international design awards across European and Asian markets. Geelen continues to work with Enthoven as a freelance designer.

Stefan Gulassa Stefan Gulassa is an accomplished artist, photographer, sculptor and innovator whose varied talents defy absolute classification. Stefan has been recognized with a Design Achievement award for his work at Gulassa & Co., as well as being included as one of Seattle’s Top 100 designers.

Terry Hunziker Terry Hunziker is known for its warm minimalism. Guided by an overall sense of serenity, his designs complement modern architectural structures; however, their simplicity allows them to blend with many other styles.

Terry Hunziker Inc., was founded in 1984. Based in Seattle, his interior design firm specializes in high-end residential and commercial projects – both national and international, encompassing residential and commercial interiors and interior architecture, lighting, textiles and custom furniture.

He has been consistently named in the Architectural Digest’s AD100.

John Hutton, Joe Doyle & Jennifer Hutton John Hutton International is an independent design firm that specializes in product design for the world’s luxury furniture market. The company was founded in 1998

by American design icon John Hutton and his longtime collaborator Joe Doyle.

Instrumental in the Sutherland design aesthetic from its inception, Hutton combined contemporary flair with a classical foundation to produce truly original concepts.

His unique perspective was grounded in a commitment to creating for the individual rather than for the market, a philosophy reflected in the unsurpassed quality, elegant simplicity and ultimate comfort so consistent in his work.

Continuing the legacy of John Hutton, Joe Doyle has been a partner with Sutherland for many years. A clear heir to the Hutton aesthetic but with his own perspective, Doyle’s design formula is simple: “Make it interesting, make it smart, and never forget what it is for.”

Another contributor to John Hutton International is his niece Jennifer. Jennifer Hutton is an acclaimed product and interior designer and her carefully engineered products are available in luxury showrooms worldwide.

Maximilian Jencquel After studies in the USA, Venezuelan-born Jencquel earned a Masters in Interior Design at the prestigious ESAG Penninghen in Paris, graduating as valedictorian in 2005. Andree Putman recruited Jencquel and in 2006, he joined Christian Liaigre’s design studio.

Following a trip to Indonesia in 2010, Jencquel discovered a heartfelt connection to Ubud, the cultural and artistic center of Bali. This is where Studio Jencquel was established in 2011. Maximilian now pursues his passion for vernacular architecture and tropical landscapes inspired by his childhood in Venezuela. Today they are the DNA of his creativity.

Lucas Interior Lucas is an award-winning design studio focused on custom interiors that honor and elevate the art of everyday life. Founded by David, Suzie and Rachel Lucas, a trio of New York-native siblings and collaborators now based in the Pacific Northwest, their work brings fresh insight to the timeless sanctuary of home.

The family combines their complementary skills and passions, driven by David’s knowledge of interior architecture and detailing, Suzie’s strength in working with innovative and elegant materials and furniture, and Rachel’s creatively-rooted business acumen. Lee Mindel / SheltonMindel Lee F. Mindel, FAIA received his Master of Architecture from Harvard University after obtaining his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, with Distinction in Architecture, from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a founding partner of the world-renowned architecture and design firm SheltonMindel. The firm has received and won numerous accolades: the National Design Award from the National Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Museum, given to Mindel by Mrs. Obama at the White House; induction into the Interior Design Hall of Fame; Fellow of the American Institute of Architects; 30 American Institute of Architects awards; 10 Best of Year projects from Interior Design Magazine and the Best Product Designs by The Chicago Athenaeum.

Eugeni Quitllet Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet uses industrial design and creativity to shape new realities and an optimistic idea of future. He synthesizes form and function with an explosive elegance and sinuosity. For Eugeni, future is the optimistic state of imagination from the object to space, he puts his eye on the world to make us rediscover it.

Eugeni’s awards include 2020 IF Design Award, 2020 Green Good Design Award, 2020 Red Dot Award, 2019 Archiproducts Design Award, and 2016 Maison & Objet Best Designer of the Year.

Rose Tarlow As an internationally renowned furniture and fabric artisan, interior designer, antiquarian and author, Rose Tarlow’s creations have enchanted the design community for over thirty years. Her life and work have been covered by the New Yorker, The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Town and Country, House Beautiful, ELLE DECOR and Veranda.

A member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame since 1995, Rose is continuously profiled as one of Architectural Digest’s AD100 honoring the world’s most influential designers.

Vincent Van Duysen Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962 in Lokeren, Belgium.

He attended the Architecture Institute Saint-Lucas in Ghent and founded his design studio in Antwerp in 1990.

Van Duysen’s design language is an essential purity of ever-increasing refinement, with a focus on the perception of space. His goal is to grant soul and personality to spaces in which to live well and relate well to others, amidst warmth, beauty and tranquility.

Van Duysen uses pure, tactile materials to create clear and timeless designs. He celebrates the physical experience of space, materials and light while honoring functionality, durability and comfort.

In 2016, he was named Designer of the Year at the 25th Silver Jubilee edition of Biennale Interieur. He was awarded the Flemish Culture Prize for Design in 2015.
