It gives me such great pleasure to bring you this season’s Makers’ Décor Box and the Spring issue of Homemade Magazine. By now, you know the labor of love that makes this whole production possible. Each of our artisans featured in the Makers’ Décor Box represents a family owned business that works tirelessly to produce quality goods in the United States of America . It is my honor to share them with you. This particular box is even more special to me, because I collaborated with a dear friend of mine, everyone’s favorite Mimi on Instagram, Tina Schaible. She has helped me choose each maker and design the products that we feel will inspire you the most. I am excited to share more of Tina's story and her lovely home with you on page 62. When you receive this box and read these pages, it is my hope that your heart fills with encouragement and inspiration. I want you to find joy in these things. My prayer is that it will motivate you to try a new recipe, s u c c e s s f u l l y a t t e m p t A m y ’ s D I Y, s t a r t s a v i n g f o r a b a t h r o o m r e m o d e l , a n d so forth. After two long years of a pandemic, I am personally struggling to find motivation and execute what once felt so easy to accomplish. Perhaps, we need to rally together to inspire and encourage one another to keep going. Keep moving forward. I usually approach Spring as the clean slate of a new year. However, the Spring of 2022 feel less like a fresh start and more like gritty resilience to take the next right step. If you find yourself in this position, take heart, dear friend. There is a season for everything. As things continue to shift, change or feel out of control, we must find our anchor in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Look to the One who never leaves you or forsakes you and lean on your brothers and sisters to build each other up. Be blessed.

Meaningful jewelry, accessories and t-shirts that speak life, bring joy, and ultimately spark conversations to share Jesus.

Starting a business has always been part of our everyday lives in our house. We are the Alfords. I’m Pam and I’ve been married to Jack for twenty three years. We have two beautiful, teenage daughters in Decatur, Alabama. When the girls were younger, you could find a new venture in our home any day of the week. From lemonade stands in the

driveway to making commercials with stuffed animals for a pet store, my graphic design background was often used to set up these play shops for the girls. When my oldest daughter turned sixteen and really wanted a car, we suggested that she either get a job or start a business. Well, she opted to start a business selling cookies. I helped her build a website while she made DIY baking kits and freshly baked cookies. She was successful in her venture and learned so many life lessons along the way. Around the same time, my youngest daughter was chomping at the bit to start an online store. She loves hair, makeup, and all things fashion. Her idea was to start an online boutique, so Sadie+Jane was born! We named our shop after my beautiful mom, Sadie Jane, and created it to be a bright light in this world. We love offering meaningful jewelry and t-shirts that speak life, bring joy, and ultimately spark conversations to share Jesus. Our very first shirt read “Kind Words are Like Honey” and it’s still our best seller!

Meet Claire, Pam + Anna, the owners and founders of the Inspirational boutique, "Sadie + Jane". "We’re from sweet home Alabama, live on a Chick-fil-a diet, and love sweet tea! We can't spend enough time at the beach, enjoy being outdoors, and making memories together. We all work together to pick out shirts, model for photoshoots, packaging, shipping, and learning all of the details of running a small business."

15

God Wove It All Together We all work together to choose shirts, model for photoshoots, pack and ship orders while learning how to run a small business. Jack is our biggest cheerleader, so I dream of the day that he can work full time with us too! We love hearing stories about how our t-shirts or pieces of jewelry were gifted to a friend and became just the right gift at just the right time. Doesn’t God knows exactly what we need and when we need it? I felt for a long time that God was calling me to start a business that would help spread the Gospel. Originally, I didn’t know what he wanted me to do or how my background in graphic design would be used for the Kingdom. However, everything starts with an idea and anything is possible through Christ. God wove it all together in Sadie + Jane. Our small business is a vehicle to help women feel confident to share their faith. Our shirts, jewelry and journaling bibles always strike up good conversations about our God. It is my heart to help other women fall in love with God’s word and grow deeper in their faith. Therefore, I hope you’ll come visit us online at sadieandjane.com or on our Instagram page @sadieandjane.

spring.

a sermon by reverend victoria robb powers

a distant

The other day, I flipped open my laptop and

started furiously writing. I was full of frustration. I was overwhelmed, anxious, and at my wit’s end. After years of therapy and spiritual direction, I’ve learned better, more productive outlets for my anger. Writing is one of them. Here’s what I wrote:

Thank God for wonderful grandparents who can step in, but what about those who don’t have help? For others, the stress is more dangerous. Many have no other option for childcare. Far beyond a schedule disruption is the threat of losing employment and not being able to provide for their families.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: WORKING PARENTS OF PRESCHOOLERS ARE LIVING A SPECIAL KIND OF HELL RIGHT NOW. We are on our fourth quarantine this month due to a possible COVID-19 exposure at my children’s preschool. To return, both children will need a negative COVID test. Only PCR tests are accepted and can only be taken six days after the day of exposure, which is counted as day zero. Wait time for administered PCR tests averaging three days. This is my shout to the world: THE BOTTOM CAN’T HOLD. SEND ME A LIFE RAFT!

There have been articles in the Washington Post, New York Times, and NPR specials all around preschool aged children and their working parents. There’s no solution, but it’s always helpful to feel affirmed and assured that you’re not alone in your special kind of hell.

It is true. Working parents of preschool aged children are struggling. Fortunately for us, we have family in town that are able and willing to watch our children, but it hasn’t been easy. My schedule as a pastor is impossible to predict, and this last exposure came at the worst possible moment. While I’m accustomed to the unexpected – the inevitable surprises that disrupt a carefully curated week’s schedule – the sudden death of a 28 year-old in our congregation threw my week into chaos. The shock and grief associated with his passing demanded pastoral care for nearly every member of our congregation.

I don’t know what spring feels like for you, but if it’s not blooming daffodils and budding roses, then rest assured, you’re not alone. If it feels more like a slow death, a hopeless tunnel of anguish and despair, a never-ending rainstorm, guess what? You’re still not alone. And maybe that’s the hope this spring. That we aren’t alone.

My husband, a financial advisor, had just received news that his largest client was leaving for another firm. Both of us were stretched beyond our limits as it was, and then, of course, we get the dreaded call that makes our stomachs drop. If you’re a working parent of a preschooler, you know the feeling. The caller ID registers on the phone. It’s the school. Help us, Jesus. Sure enough. Another exposure. We must get the kids right away. The frustration, despair, anger, outrage, and so on is too much to bear. Our mental health feels on the line.

As I think about spring, new life, new beginnings, I can’t help but feel like the light at the end of the COVID tunnel is just a mirage there to tease us. Just as we get close enough to touch it, it moves further away. Some days I begin to wonder if it’s really there. Is there light? Does this end?

It’s the truth, too. We are never alone. One of the things that I try to teach my children the most is that God is always with them. Emmanuel literally translates God with us. When we rise, when we fall, when we despair, when we rejoice – God is with us. So, this spring, if you’re like me, not quite sure you can find the sun just yet, don’t worry too much. Drink some water, take a nap, find a moment to be kind and tender to yourself. You can do hard things, one day at a time. And you are not alone. God is with you, and in due time, you will rise again. The storm will pass. The old order of things will fall away, and new life will bloom. Thanks be to God.

The 626 Foundation has always been my heart and passion. I truly believe that this work is the culmination of my gifts as an empath and talent as a designer. The 626 Foundation is a non-profit interior design firm that offers no cost design ser vices to families affected by life's unexpected tragedies. Tragedy can happen to anyone at anytime, but always happens unexpectedly. We rely on generous donations from people like you to make our work possible, as donors fund each project. Families can apply for themselves or become nominated on the website, 626foundation.org. Then, our Board of Directors votes on the project based on resources available to us at the time and the need of each applicant.

Though I hope that you have not experienced hardships in your own life, I am sure that you have. Far too many people have had sickness, death, addiction, miscariage, divorce or natural disaster ravage through their family and home. W hen that happens, I’ve always believed that a house can often feel more like a prison than a sanctuary. W hen it does, Pinterest and Instagram are painful reminders of dreams that seem so far out of reach. However, people do not long solely for freshly painted walls and perfectly curated furniture. It is the feeling of home and wholeness that people truly desire.

21

The 626 Foundation began in late 2018. Since then, we have completed three full scale projects to help families find joy in their spaces. The Covid-19 pandemic put the biggest wrench in our plans as we were unable to enter homes to provide our ser vices. This was most unfortunate because the pandemic forced people into the very spaces that they may have been desperate to escape, an impossible situation for some. The tolls on mental health remain unaddressed and people are in need of resources. The 626 Foundation can help! It is with great excitement that we relaunch the 626 Foundation and pledge our commitment to meeting the needs of as many families as we can, one at a time.

Debbie and Derek have a vision to provide a full coffee experience and transport customers “ from burlap bag to brew.” Therefore, the roastery equipment and processes will be in plain sight while you order your Barnyard Coffee or Debbie’s famous sourdough bread and baked goods. A Dream Realized Debbie boasts that her husband Derek has always dreamt of owning and operating a coffee roastery. In 2015, on a five-acre home located in the Pacific Northwest, Barnyard Coffee became a reality. Debbie chose the company name as a reminder of the many times she sat looking out her window at the chickens, horses and “that barnyard.” Even with the meager beginnings of a small roaster the size of a toaster oven, the goal has always been to produce good, small batch coffee using organic green coffee beans. During the couple’s years in the Cascade Mountain foothills, the Peris family also helped run a Christian retreat center. However, with Covid-19 lockdowns and stay home orders in early 2020, the center was forced to make cuts and Derek resigned from his director position. So, in May 2021, the Peris family and Barnyard Coffee moved to Louisiana without ever stepping foot in the state!

Finding Home in Minden, Louisiana When I asked Debbie why they chose to relocate sight unseen to Minden, Louisiana, she explained that they had grown very close to a couple of churches that frequented the retreat center over the years. They started to look at the towns where those churches were planted, one being in Virginia and the other in Louisiana. She recalls how God kept closing doors in Virginia, but doors kept opening in Louisiana. So last summer, they made the move to the small town of Minden. If you’re wondering where you’ve heard the name Minden before, it has recently made national headlines in relation to HGTV’s Home Town Kickstart Presented by People television show. The series, hosted by Ben and Erin Napier from HGTV’s Home Town, is scheduled to premiere this year. It will showcase six quintessential small towns across the country as they receive a major revitalization. Minden will be one of the towns given a fresh start with three major renovations. The Napiers will remodel the home of a local hero, a small business and a community center.

Planting Roots Debbie knew that she wanted to plant Barnyard Coffee in the middle of this newly revitalized, soon to be bustling small town. Therefore, the Perises just purchased an 8,000 square foot building originally built in 1882 on Main Street. She is elated that the original tin ceiling tiles and exposed brick remain. It is the very brick for which their newest venture, Brick Street Coffee, a coffee shop and bakery, is named. However, Debbie and Derek have a vision to provide a full coffee experience and transport customers “from burlap bag to brew.” Therefore, the roastery equipment and processes will be in plain sight while you order your Barnyard Coffee or Debbie’s famous sourdough bread and baked goods. In the coming Fall of 2022, the town of Minden will gather yet again to witness the revitalization of a 140-year-old historical building at the grand opening of Brick Street Coffee. You can believe that Tina, my bestie, and myself will be there for that ‘brew-tiful’ day!

I’m Debbie and Derek and I have been married for 29 years and have 4 wonderful children. In 2015 we started brewing our own coffee and in 2020 our business really took off. We have since packed our bags and moved from the Pacific Northwest to Minden, Louisiana, an exodus surrounded by God’s provision and direction. From roasting, packaging, and processing orders to shipping across all 50 states, our entire operation is a family affair. We are so excited for our newest venture Brickstreet Coffee, in downtown Minden. This full experience roastery and bakery is set to open Fall 2022. " -Debbie and Derek Peris

It’s no secret that Tina’s favorite blend of Barnyard Coffee is their English Toffee. Don’t expect “in your face” artificial flavor like 3 pumps of syrup, but more of the lingering subtle taste of a fresh bite of toffee. You’re also receiving “Coconut Infusion”, Susie’s favorite choice which tastes like vacation in a cup! And lastly, for the classic coffee drinker, the very smooth Medium Roast, Guatemala. It’s undertones of nuts and spice are truly delicious. All of these blends and so many more are available at barnyardcoffee.com. Shop: barnyardcoffee.com Like: @barnyard_coffee

CRAFT YOUR OWN STONEWARE POTTERY

stoneware

Inspired by the elegance of old world pottery, this DIY project gives your space a look of the past with a modern feel. In addition, the neutral color and natural looking textures make it timeless for any season. Handmade or designer pottery typically retails for sixty to hundreds of dollars. However, this simple DIY costs less than $20 by reusing outdated pottery and paint supplies that you probably already have. Therefore, it is a great way to give new life to thrifted or unused vases, jars, and pots. It's important to find vessels with an interesting shape, but without any unwanted three dimensional details. BY AMY WILLIAMS OF CUTER TUDOR

REQUIRED MATIERIALS:

White spray paint primer or sandpaper Joint compound Latex or acrylic paint in whites or light browns Coffee grounds or dirt Paint brushes and palette knife Clear spray sealer in matte finish

31

transform any vessel into a work of art using common goods

32

1. prep + prime After gathering your materials, you will need to prepare the pottery for paint. First, remove any residue or price tags and wipe down the surface. Then, use a medium grit sandpaper to sand any glossy ceramic or glass surfaces which will allow the paint to adhere easier. However, a light coat of white spray paint primer works great on wood or metal containers.

CRAFT YOUR OWN STONEWARE POTTERY

33

2. apply paint mixture Mix one part latex or acrylic paint with one part joint compound. This should be a thick, yet creamy texture. Use your personal preference of paint color, but this layer is white. With a sponge brush, apply the paint mixture with long, horizontal brushstrokes ensuring the pot is completely covered in a thin layer. The base coat should conceal the original color or pattern. Allow the compound to dry for an hour. Next, brush another thick layer of the paint mixture onto the pot with shorter brushstrokes and more material. The goal is to create lots of textures so peaks of paint are fine. Dry a few hours.

34

CRAFT YOUR OWN STONEWARE POTTERY

35

3. play with paint! This is the fun part, because you get to play with paint. First, pour three different colors of paint onto a disposable plate. Then, get creative and paint a few different shades of creamy white, light brown or terra cotta color onto the pottery. Don't be afraid to try a few of these techniques to achieve the look that you desire. If you mess up, just paint over it.

add texture Mix coffee grounds into the paint to create a gritty texture that mimics the look of handmade stone pottery. Then, brush on randomly. Or, rub dirt to semi-dried pottery. Either way, apply gently as to not scratch the previous layers of paint.

36

dry brush The goal of dry brushing is to create lots of texture with distinct brush stroke marks rather than blending the paint altogether. Therefore, it's important to use as little paint as possible. So, dab off any excess paint from the brush and do not apply on wet paint. With this technique, make quick, short strokes with a stiff, bristly brush in different directions. It's best to work with different shades of color and lots of thin layers to build dimension.

white wash This extra translucent layer creates a chalky look similar to limestone and blends the previous layers of colors together. Simply, mix one part of a water based paint with three parts of water. Then, apply a thin layer of the white wash with a paint brush over the entire pot.

CRAFT YOUR OWN STONEWARE POTTERY

37

4. seal + style! Once the pottery is completely dry, protect it with a clear spray sealer which forms a water resistant barrier. I prefer the matte finish, because it looks more natural. Lastly, style your pottery. For instance, group upcyled pottery on a shelf together or display with greenery as a table centerpiece. For spring, add leafy branches, house plants or your favorite bouquet of flowers.

| d ou b l e tas s e l e d wood + g l as s de cor b ead st r and | The Ruffled Nest, Kansas, USA "It’s always been a dream to share my love of decorating with hopes of inspiring others to create a curated home that they love. In the fall of 2017, a few months after having my third daughter, I started a decor page on Instagram @rufflednest.decor. As creating decor to style our home became our passion, my husband James and I dreamed of starting a business. Two years later, after months of prayerful consideration, we took the leap. Our hobby of crafting items for the home transformed into a business, Ruffled Nest Décor. We have a local booth in Wichita, Kansas, and often do vendor shows where we love meeting our customers. In 2020, our business grew as we started our selling online, as well. The connections that we’ve made and the support that we’ve received from our customers through Instagram, our blog and website have blessed our family more than we could ever imagine. We love creating pieces that can be used both functionally and decoratively to make your home uniquely yours. Our favorite product is most definitely our home decor bead strands. Our girls are even involved and help string beads in every color of the rainbow! In the garage turned workshop, James and I brainstorm new product ideas and then, bring them to life. We get very excited when our newly handcrafted pieces are well received by our customers. Therefore, we are both honored and proud to offer products that our family has handcrafted into our customers’ homes. " -Angie and James Christenson This one of a kind, double tasseled, wood and glass decor bead strand is crafted with various sizes of wood beads and African recycled glass beads in a beautiful blush pink hue. On both ends, the strand is finished with a wool blend tassel dyed in a variegated gray and pink tone. Each strand varies due to the natural characteristics of the wood, glass and yarn color making every strand truly one-of-a-kind. This particular design and color scheme is a collaboration between Susie, Tina and Angie to create something beautiful, classic and exclusive. To style it in your home, simply drape the beads over a stack of books, gather them loosely in a wooden bowl or lay across the coffee table. Shop: rufflednestdecor.com Like: @rufflednest.decor

| t uli p b u n dl e | Curated by Susie + Bundled by Raegen Hain, Texas, USA A little extra something from me to you! I always find the return of tulips to be so romantic in the Springtime! After the long, hard winter, their anticipated return is faithful and enduring. They undeniably bring a burst of cheer and freshness to any room. Each bundle was assembled by hand here at my home in Plano, by Raegen who is happily preparing to throw her own bouquet in August. These spring beauties were not maker-made, but we wanted to include them as a little something extra to say "thank you for shopping local".

Hi there! I’m Elizabeth Gleason, Top Producing Real Estate Agent

JUST

in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and a good friend of our girl, Susie. In my brokerage firm of over 450 agents, I was recently awarded #4 in Most “Closed Listings” as a Seller’s Agent and #5 in Most “Closed Listings” as a Buyer’s Agent. I have clients from everywhere and have helped many relocate to Texas. Spring is a great time to list your home if you’re thinking about selling. In fact, it’s still a seller’s market; we are seeing eight buyers for every one listing in most major metropolitan areas. Over the past year, the average homeowner gained $56,700 in equity! If you want to take advantage of this incredible opportunity, let me answer the most asked questions that I receive from sellers.

1922 Hunters Ridge Drive, Grapevine - $390,000 4/2.1/2, 1925 sq ft - Represented Seller

Should I update my home before I list, or offer an allowance to buyers? The main areas that sell a house are the kitchen and bathrooms. If you upgrade these spaces, which I recommend that you do, be sure to choose neutral finishes and selections that are clean and understated. However, if, for example, your floors need to be replaced or refinished, then I recommend that you have samples and an estimate available to your buyers for a remodeling allowance. In addition, technological advances make it easier than ever to provide digital renderings of remodeling possibilities or to show what a vacant home might look like staged.

What do I focus on first?

1512 Cosette, Dallas - $515,000 2/2.1/2, 2293 sq ft – Represented Buyer

Curb appeal is number one. When buyers drive by, your curb appeal is the first impression that they will have of your home. Therefore, ensure that your house is clean. For example, wash the windows, power wash the trim, and give the whole house a good deep cleaning. You have thirty seconds to make a positive impression with your buyers, so depersonalize the space and declutter your décor. When it’s time for showings, make sure you have addressed any unwelcoming odors. Additionally, make sure your home is light and bright. Simple fixes include replacing dark curtains with sheers or removing them. What repairs are okay to pass on to the new homeowners? During a home inspection, the primary focus areas will be the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, plumbing, electrical, foundation, and roof. I highly recommend that you take care of these five major areas before listing. This will set your home in the best light and prevent any surprises before closing.

740 Sparrow Lane, Coppell - $466,000 3/2/2, 2013 sq ft – Represented Seller

Do you have any extra tips? Ensure that all the lightbulbs in the home are in working order. Burnt out bulbs, which can easily be replaced, often make buyers weary of electrical problems. Look at your home through “buyer’s eyes” and make any final tweaks that you would appreciate if you were shopping for a home.

Please, give me a call if there’s anything that I can ever do for you! 46

The book cover is removed to reveal the top page and provide the stack of books with a unique, vintage charm. LAH POR proj ect This vibrant master ensuite draws inspiration from the fun and whimsical glamour of the 1950's, but with a modern interpretation.

Plano, t x My design client’s family has a beautiful home in Plano, Texas with a neutral color palette and traditional design elements including a brick exterior, subway tile backsplash, and hardwood floors. For this bathroom renovation, the goal was to increase functionality and create an overwhelmingly positive vibe. Therefore, we made drastic changes to the layout and infused vivid colors and modern, yet classic design elements to create a sophisticated, calming space. Yes, the walls are very much pink! Specifically, it is Mellow Coral by Sherwin Williams. Typically, my interior design clients request neutral colors like gray and white. However, this client said, “nope, I want color." The client gets what the client wants. So, she got color! This bathroom brings a smile to my face every time that I walk in. And who doesn’t want that feeling the first thing in the morning?

51

I

n order to balance the color palette, I chose a pale blue-green and white stamped tile for the bathroom floor. Originally, the patterned tile selection didn't convince the clients. However, upon seeing samples in person, they agreed it was perfect to pull the space together and create a statement. Currently, we are still seeing a lot of stamped tiles on floors, but I’m steering away from the black and white design. I find that the more subdued the color contrast looks that the higher end the space feels. Lastly, we installed white subway and penny hexagon tile in the shower area for a clean, classic combination.

52

For this bathroom renovation, my clients wanted a large shower corner stall with a wide, glass door but without the step transition into the wet room. It is functional, easily accessible and a great way to maximize the space. To be candid, the longest part of this remodel was waiting on the shower glass. While lumber prices have become stable and lead times return to normal, the cost of glass is higher than normal and receiving product seems to take longer than usual.

star power A bath fit for a hollywood star! I'm thinking... a little Pillow Talk a la Rock Hudson and Doris Day? This color exudes lightheartedness, cheerfulness and femininity.

pretty in pink

a playful, modern bath

The room is elegantly topped off with chrome light fixtu res, faucets, and hardware per the clients’ request. Because chrome is a classic design choice, no comprises were made. It's a timeless look which gave this space a much needed modern update. The question that I’m sure everyone is asking is whether Jose, the general contractor whom I often push to the limits, likes this bathroom design. Well, as per usual, he did not expect it to turn out this beautiful. However, he knows that these photos not only show off all our hard work, but how well this space came together for our clients. Everyone can appreciate good design!

If you want to remodel your home, I encourage you to take risks in things that grab your attention. Go with that bold color you can’t get out of your head. Look at lots of different material samples to find that one that you might otherwise not have found. Splurge on the light fixture that will create a 'wow factor’ every time someone enters the room. Do the things that will make you fall in love with your home.

Designer Tip : Make sure to mix materials, textures and design elements. For example, I would cho ose clear glass or even a fabric shade rat her t han milk glass or ceramic orbs for t hese light fixtures. Ot herwise, t he space would feel to o cold and monotonous wit hout t he contrast .

queen a n e xc lu s i v e h o m e to u r + a n d co f f e e dat e with the incomparable tina schaible

This magazine has become my personal diary. It’s a place where I can document the important moments in life, like my wedding engagement, or interview my favorite people, like my grandmother. Its pages are designed to be full of inspiration and encouragement. I want to give a voice to so many stories from friends and makers. For this publication, our hope is that it will go far beyond pretty pictures and become a beacon of hope and light to you, our reader. Each issue is centered around an inspiring theme and person. Last time we did this, it was all about my grandmother and the inspiration that she shares with so many people. This time, it is my honor and privilege to focus our Spring issue and Makers’ Décor Box around none other than Tina Schaible. For many years, Tina has been my best customer. In fact, before I personally knew her, I packed her orders into boxes as the warehouse manager for Curtis Creation, the shop that I would later purchase and rename From: Susie. Her orders came through often. Little did I know that five years later, Tina would become my dear friend whom I would drive across Texas to photograph and interview for a feature in my home design magazine. Now, it is with overwhelming gratitude that I invite you to come over the river and through the Woodlands, to Mimi’s house we go…

where it all began Tina, you are just a joy! I know people who love you and want to know more about your story and what led you here. So, let’s start from the beginning. Where are you from? When and why did you come to Texas? Well, I am originally from Darien, Connecticut and spent a lot of time in Allentown, Pennsylvania, too. I am a Northeastern girl at heart and would really love to get back there one day. I attended Marietta College in Ohio where I majored in Industrial Relations. I met my husband Dave in college, and he was a petroleum engineer, so that line of work took us to Lafayette, Louisiana after marriage.

a n e v o lv i n g sense of style Louisiana? That makes a lot of sense to me, because I see a lot of French elements in your design style. Did you enjoy it there? I loved it! It was a giant culture shock from the Northeast, but we absolutely loved Lafayette. Before we had children, I worked as an office manager for a small, private brokerage firm. I would type the ads for the real estate listings that would go in the weekend newspaper. Essentially, I would create the MLS listing and write the creative description about each house. My husband’s job evolved, and he helped form a new company that brought us to Texas in 1991.

‘Fluffy Coffee’ is Tina’s signature cup of Joe. Basically, it is a flavored latte with plenty of frothed milk and topped generously with whipped cream and sprinkles. I can personally attest to its deliciousness and something about it makes it so decadent. It’s even better when you prepare it with your new Vintage Stamped Spoon!

st ep 1:

Prepare an extra-large cup of latte (1 shot espresso + 8 ounces steamed, frothed milk).

st ep 2:

Add 1-2 pumps of your favorite sugar-free syrup or sweetener.

st ep 3:

Add extra frothed milk. Stir. Top with a heap of whipped cream and sprinkles. Serve piping hot!

FROM

SCOUTS' HONOR A Week en d Getaway to an Old Girl Scout Camp o n 1 8 Acre s in th e He a rt of Texa s I have come to absolutely adore this large family of mine! I’ve fully embraced “the more the merrier ” sentiment and admit that our vacations are way more fun with all these kids! Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of stress to pack and prepare for 7 people. However, there are a lot of advantages to large families. First, everyone has a buddy, so there’s always someone to play with. It’s rare to not have someone willing to jump in a game of pool, ping pong, or Roblox. Secondly, there are plenty of helping hands with dishes or taking out the trash. Even meal preparation has become a family affair and I love my helpers! Furthermore, older kids make great babysitters. Our oldest son is responsible enough to care for his younger siblings which gives Robert and I the chance to run a quick errand or take a walk together.

A DESTINATION VACATION If you’ve followed my journey on social media , then you are familiar with L odgewell, a destination vacation rental company in Austin, Texas and the surrounding hill country. L odgewell is well known for rolling out the ‘red welcome mat’ to provide g uests with an unforgettable experience. For instance, g uests receive a ‘welcome box’ filled with items from local and small businesses. This is proof that we are kindred spirits! Their properties include one-of-a-kind, off the beaten path getaways that can not be duplicated. Seriously! I’m done with the traditional hotel room. I’m only vacationing in unique rental homes where I can spread out, explore like a local and feel inspired when I leave.

FINDING REPRIEVE Two years ago, my relationship with L odgewell began when they so graciously provided me an amazing getaway at the Littlefield L ofts in downtown Austin on New Year ’s Eve. Prior to going, I had just received unsettling news from my ex husband that sent me into a tailspin. Because he would have our kids for the next 10 days, my choice was to get out of town or slash some tires. Just kidding, but I am still grateful to L odgewell for the reprieve! Since then, there have been countless memories made while staying at their rental properties.

Most recently, I was excited to take my newly blended family and our neighbors to L odgewell’s newest property, Camp Blanco. Get this… Camp Blanco is an old Girl Scout camp, y ’all. It is awesome! There are six structures on the 18-acre property which spread across 600 feet of the Blanco River. The Ranger, which is the old lodge, The Brownie Bunkhouse, The Kookaburra game room, The Daisy g uesthouse, and The Tagalongs, literal tents for the ultimate glamper, make up this amazing camp. Lastly, the Do-Si-Do is the original and revived girls and boys bath house.

85

YOUR NEXT GETAWAY Our kids LOVED this property. You know that you booked a good on e when tears are shed on check out day. We cooked huge breakfasts, watched movies, and played endless games together. The Kookaburra game room includes three garage style doors that open onto an expansive patio. The outdoor views and indoor space was the perfect atmosphere to play poker, shuffle board, foosball and darts. Our family hosted a traditional talent show on the back deck. Oso, our puppy a nd newest addition won 2nd place, while I performed ballet moves! In addition, we fished, kayaked with boats (provided in the outdoor pavilion) and played football along the water ’s edge. The water was so clear that you could almost reach down and grab a fish. The kid inside me really wanted to jump into the Blanco River. However, the trip took place in January and I don’t do cold! At night, we gathered around the bonfire pit to roast hot dogs and s’mores provided by the L odgewell team. Seriously, our kids can’t stop talking about this trip and can’t wait to go back. If you are looking for the perfect place to take your family this year, look no further than L odgewell. I have no doubt that you will find an amazing vacation property to bring you and your loved ones closer together. Mark your calenders! On April 8th, we will be speaking at Christian Parenting's virtual event, Parenting with Purpose. Book your All Access Pass now at perfectlyimperfect.org.

In case you missed it, Robert and I started a podcast! Christian Parenting, a part of Denison Ministries, is hosting our little corner of the internet. The show, which is available wherever you listen to podcasts, follows our journey as we blend children, finances, friends and family. I think what makes our podcast unique and quite wonderful is that Robert and I are not afraid to be honest and vulnerable. You probably already know that about me, but maybe you didn’t know that about him. In the last episode we recorded, I made a comment that I continue to hold true; I believe women are thirsty and desperate to hear the hearts of their men. Traditionally, it seems that men have become more and more closed off. The men that I know or have dated are wounded, distrusting, emasculated and passive. I believe women want the intimacy of the secret chamber in a man’s heart, but don’t know how to get inside. Perhaps they were the ones who wounded him, or perhaps their man has never opened up. Either way, we as their wives long for their emotional availability, their strength, and their leadership.

It takes a healthy man to embody all of that at the same time. In dysfunctional relationships, often times leadership looks more like abuse. Strength can turn into stoicism and emotional vulnerability is thought to be a sign of weakness. So we are left with men who maybe want to be known, but can’t seem to navigate how. Well, let me introduce you to Rob Brinck. Robert comes from an abusive childhood and more than one broken marriage. If you tune in, he’ll let you peak inside the corners of his mind and the wounds in his heart. It’s such a beautiful and honest look inside God’s masterpiece of man. Robert is altogether precious in His sight, but also in mine, and it’s a joy to share a part of him with you. If you or someone you know are married, divorced, remarried, or if you’ve been touched by divorce even as a child, this podcast is for you! Join us as we sit at the table, turn over our cards and show our hearts to each other. We’re trusting in our God to walk us through this new journey and hope you’ll join us. 99

Four years ago, I bought a shop. Since then, not only has my little brand grown, but so have I. From a single mom to a wife to Robert, we’ve recently launched a marriage podcast. I’m now attempting to raise teenagers as a privilege of having three bonus boys. I feel like so much has changed the past few years! We can be grateful for the change we experience, but we also need an abundance of grace for ourselves when are weary about the things that feel stuck. As you prepare for this season of Spring, may I encourage you? If you feel like the tattered agave plants in my yard that are barely hanging on from the Winter freeze, know that the great spirit of hope and comfort will always be with you. I pray that you would experience His presence now more than ever. Thank you for walking alongside me on this incredible journey that we call life.
