We drive scalable solutions to transform the lives of people with disabilities, people in poverty and people facing homelessness: solutions that contribute to righting societal imbalances.

OUR VISION

We envision a city where everyone has a roof over their head, is healthy, productive and can enjoy the social connections that create a life of purpose. We’re a nonprofit with a staff of 2,400 that provides more than $200 million in services. Our efforts are supported by various local, state and federal government entities as well as foundations, corporations and individual donors. Most importantly, our vision allows us to deliver the same quality of services to one individual or to thousands. No challenge is beyond our scope.

When an individual’s life is put on hold for circumstances unique to them, establishing a relationship with them is step one. It’s our guide to the services we provide. The results: Individuals and families no longer limited by their obstacles but propelled by opportunities for a richer experience with the world. A ripple effect that extends from individuals out into their communities.

n delivering its service, S:US has worked in partnership with some of New York City’s most vulnerable individuals and families to create pathways to lives of purpose.

Since 1978, S:US has been out there 24/7 giving people the tools they need to address their life challenges. We have tapped into the optimism which is at our core, the resilient nature of those who come to us for services, and the “can do” spirit that makes our city great. Currently, we successfully serve and support more than 35,000 New Yorkers as they transform their own lives.

With over four decades of providing housing and support services we help shape a city where there can be opportunity for all. The people we serve have dealt with very complex and challenging life circumstances: women and children who have experienced domestic violence; people who have lost their homes; people living in poverty; veterans who are challenged by homelessness, depression, and unemployment; people with mental illness and addiction challenges; people with autism and other developmental disabilities; and people living with HIV/AIDS. Our successes to date have emboldened us to do even more. And so now, we are calling on all New Yorkers—the business community, civic groups, neighborhoods where we live and work, foundations, and generous individuals to work in partnership with us through our New Yorkers for New York Campaign.

New Yorkers for New York believes we can fulfill our vision of a city where everyone has a roof over their head, is healthy, productive and socially engaged. New Yorkers for New York creates opportunity for ALL New Yorkers to live their best life. And why not? Andrew Zimmern ANDREW ZIMMERN is a four-time James Beard award-winning TV personality, chef, writer, teacher and social justice advocate. As the creator, executive producer and host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods franchise, Andrew Zimmern’s Driven by Food, The Zimmern List, and Food Network’s Big Food Truck Tip, he has explored cultures in more than 170 countries, promoting impactful ways to think about, create and live with food. He has written four books, appears monthly in Delta Sky Magazine, is a contributor at Food & Wine Magazine and an entrepreneur-in-residence at Babson College. Andrew is the founder of both Intuitive Content, a full-service television and digital production company, and Passport Hospitality, a restaurant and food service development company. He is devoted to his charitable endeavors and sits on the board of directors of Services for the UnderServed, Second Harvest Heartland and Taste of the NFL. Jen Press Marden Jen Press Marden grew up in New York City where she developed her eye and cultivated her love of style through the vibrant and unique landscape of NYC and LA in the seventies. She began her career at Ann Taylor, Adrienne Vittadini and Vogue.

Jen raised her two children in Greenwich, CT where she served as President of The Greenwich Committee for Human Services dedicated to raising philanthropic dollars to fund local social service providers and housing in Fairfield County and Westchester, NY. As a partner in a fine jewelry business, she was able to keep her creative juices flowing and indulge her love of jewelry.

Jen was co-host and producer of A Fashionable Life, a weekly hour radio show streaming on WGCH/Greenwich. She was a TV fashion/ lifestyle reporter for ABC News Now, where she covered fashion and red carpet events as well as the first Obama inauguration. She has written for numerous publications most recently for Modern Luxury Palm Beach.

Jen joined the S:US Board of Directors in 2014 and later was named Vice Chair. She and her husband, James live in TriBeCa with their rescue dog, Rolo who loves coming to S:US for meetings.

David Arnold

David Arnold has had to deal with challenges all his life. To begin, his mother abandoned him at a New York City hospital after giving birth.

Fortunately, David was raised by a supportive foster mother with whom he built a close relationship. This foundation of consistent love and support helped him grow into an outgoing man with a sense of optimism and an adventurous spirit. David, who is diagnosed with a developmental disability, came to Services for the UnderServed (S:US) in 2006 as a 19-year-old with a passion for life and a desire to learn how to become more independent. At S:US, he received consistent attention and assistance from staff. He worked hard at fostering his independence by learning to navigate NYC public transportation alone; and by becoming an advocate of his own health care, scheduling and attending medical appointments on his own, handling any needed follow up care, and being aware of his medication needs.

David has moved into an Individualized Support Services (ISS) apartment with a roommate with whom he cooks, cleans and maintains the apartment. David’s future goals include getting married, having children and becoming a manager at his job. He’s on his way!

TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT

INTI AND THE MOON is a Latin/Spanish guitar trio & percussion blending the sounds of Spanish guitar & Latin, South American & Middle Eastern grooves. The trio plays often at the main venues in the city such as Shire, Silvana, Drom NYC, Marriott Hotel, Le Solei Hotel among others.

With the whole Band which includes a violinist, bass player and singer, the band has toured Central Asia (Sharq Taronalari Festival - Samarkand Uzbekistan 2015). NPR Tiny Desk contest 2017 (Selected 10 best entries

LUCAS HUNT is the president of HUNT Auctioneers and a celebrated American poet who was born and raised in rural Iowa. He graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering, has a Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS) designation from the National Auctioneer’s Association, and plays an auctioneer on stage, television and voiceovers. He has published work in The New York Times, and won a John Steinbeck Award. He lives in New York.
