Why Study at Surval Montreux?

Surval’s modern bespoke education celebrates Languages and Culture, champions Social Enterprise and forges Global Perspectives. These three vital pillars underpin Surval life and all our study programmes, which are further complemented by our comprehensive Enrichment and Personal Development Programme as well as our lively schedule of fun weekend activities and cultural excursions.

Students at Surval enjoy a unique study experience. Our small class sizes and highly personalised approach mean we deliver tutorialstyle lessons, focusing on each individual progressing at their own pace. For girls coming to Surval for one term or one year’s study, we ensure a seamless transition to and from Surval. Students joining us for

longer term study move up through the School, and graduate from Surval, heading onto their chosen University/ Career pathway.

Languages feature prominently at Surval. For most girls, English is their second language. Lessons are taught in English, complemented by a strong emphasis on French; all girls follow the DELF programme. Surval is one of the few Schools in Switzerland to teach Etiquette, which features in all our programmes.

We offer SAT, IELTS and TOEFL training, alongside a comprehensive university application and careers advice programme, ensuring our girls leave Surval fully prepared for whichever exciting future path they choose.

Foundation Year (Grade 8)

Surval welcomes students from the age of 12, for a Foundation Year (Grade 8) which provides an excellent preparation to enter the American High School Programme.

The Foundation Year offers a strong language element, making it ideal for girls wishing to expand their English skills and fluency. Girls also study French, with the option to take a further language if they wish. Foundation Year students enjoy a broad curriculum, including Mathematics, all three Sciences, Humanities and Global Perspectives and Art; as well as timetabled, Cookery, Etiquette and Sports.

We also offer Foundation 2. This is a special two-year programme, specifically designed for those girls whose English is less developed, and who intend to stay on and graduate from Surval. This programme’s intensive English lessons give students the opportunity to start French lessons when they are ready. They are able to join some lessons within the main Foundation curriculum, with a view to studying the full programme within a year.

High School

The American High School Programme is both challenging and interesting. Surval is accredited according to the California standards by Cognia. Our course offers an excellent College preparation curriculum, through which girls are able to fulfill and exceed the requirements for high-quality University entrance.

At the same time, girls enjoy the benefits of a unique international cultural experience through a wide enrichment programme, a strong emphasis on languages and exceptional opportunities for travel within and beyond Europe.

US Advanced Placements (APs)

Girls also benefit from the opportunity to stretch and challenge themselves academically through studying US Advanced Placements: popular, one-year courses culminating in an external exam taken in Grades 11 and 12.

Our ambitious students can take a combination of up to 5 APs over Grades 11 and 12, enabling them to apply to and access the most competitive Universities worldwide.
