The tradition of fire disc throwing, known in Romansh as «Trer Schibettas», is an ancient custom of pagan origin. Once widespread throughout the region, this unique tradition is still practiced today in Danis Tavanasa, Dardin, and Untervaz. The event always takes place on the first Saturday of Lent.
In earlier times, glowing wooden discs were thrown into the night sky to symbolically drive away winter. Over time, the custom also developed into a romantic gesture, with discs dedicated to loved ones. The spectacular display is best observed from the valley floor, where the fiery arcs illuminate the night sky. An authentic and fascinating tradition for the whole family.
