It began almost 100 years ago on the west coast of Sweden, in the small fishing village of Grundsund when Carl A. Grundén began producing waterproof oil skins to protect the fisherman of the North Sea from the demanding, harsh conditions of their job.
We’ve always been makers, and we opened our own factory in Portugal in 1972. Today we continue to produce a significant number of our products within our factory in Lisbon, Portugal allowing us to focus on the importance of construction and quality. Today this factory is an advanced ISO9001 certified factory and product development center for us.
In 1991 Mike and Dave Jackson who were both commercial fishermen began distributing Grundéns in the USA and established the headquarters in the Pacific Northwest.
Today, some things have changed, but by understanding the needs of fisherman 100 years ago and believing that our best days are still ahead of us, we continue to see opportunities to make improvements and that still drives us today. Grundéns is 100% committed to solving the needs of commercial fishermen and recreational anglers for their respective and regional conditions.
Somewhere along the journey, we believe that every angler comes to the realization it’s not about the catch. Sure catching is usually more fun than the
fishing. But at a deeper level, there is a sense of freedom that comes from fishing. There is a sense of tackling the unknown and solving the challenges. Fishing is a way to experience nature’s beauty and develop a respect for all of its forces. This is what bonds fishermen together. Fishing is not only an opportunity to connect with each other; it’s an opportunity to connect with something bigger than ourselves.
Ultimately, we aim to enable fishermen, both professional as well as recreational, to face any given condition on waters across the globe.

We designed IronClad with the Commercial Trap Fisherman in mind. Years of experience has taught us the environments of lobster and crab fishing create some of the most abrasive conditions our garments face: sharp wire, barnacles, and long hours on deck shred even the burliest fabrics with ease.
Our constant obsession with solving the problems fishermen face, and keeping them protected led us to partner with SuperFabric®. SuperFabric® technology takes a piece of fabric and overlays it with small plates (“guard plates”) in specific arrangements. The gaps between guard plates allow complete flexibility while creating a cut and tear resistant surface. The geometry, thickness, and size of the guard plates, along with the base fabric, can be varied depending on the desired attributes. THE GORE-TEX MEMBRANE
The extremely thin ePTFE membrane is the heart of GORE-TEX fabrics and what makes it durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. One square inch of the membrane has over 9 billion pores. The amazing part is that these pores are actually 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger that a water vapor molecule. That is what makes the GORE-TEX membrane functionally waterproof, while at the same time allowing perspiration to escape from the inside. All GORE-TEX membranes except for GORE-TEX Pro have an oleophobic (oil-hating) layer of very thin Polyurethane on the inside to protect the pores from sweat and body oils that can clog them. Unlike all other GORE-TEX membranes, GORE-TEX Pro uses a 100% ePTFE membrane with two thin layers of ePTFE laminate sandwiching a very thin band of ePTFE with a different microstructure instead of the PU layer and offers up to 28% more breathability because of it.
2-LAYER OR 3-LAYER HOW IT WORKS

GORE-TEX Paclite® Plus garments use a 2-layer unlined construction. This makes them thin, light, and highly packable – and also durably waterproof, windproof, and extremely breathable.
