CARL SCHAPER - SHAPER With decades of experience in the shaping bay, Carl Schaper belongs to the higher echelon of shaper royalty on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Knowing a thing or two about high-performance surfing, Carl shapes for some of the very best surfers out there, including longboard 2x World Champion (Bonga Perkins), pipeline charger and industry legend like Garrett McNamara (Guiness Book of record for biggest wave ever ridden). MARCIE O’NEILL - SHAPER Legendary shaper Marcie O’Neill, teamed up with NSP to bring some new direction to the already popular Elements Longboard, Funboard and Fish surf shapes. Marcie grew up surfing in Australia and started designing surfboards at the Aloha Factory in 1989. TULLY ST. JOHN - SHAPER Tully St. John is the owner/shaper of the legendary Laguna Bay Longboards from Noosa Heads, Australia. Down to earth and heavily involved in the local longboarding subculture, Tully has been shaping since his early days in high school. His shapes are being used by multiple World Champions, right through to everyday surfers, wanting something truly exceptional under their feet. Tully’s shapes have been honed on the long running walls of Noosa’s Surf Reserve and its many surrounding beach breaks.

KYM THOMPSON - SHAPER Starting at the young age of 15, Kym Thompson made designing surfboards his life’s work and to this day he designs and shapes everything from single-fin boards, right down to all multi-fin configurations. Originally Kym began his career shaping longboards and as the shortboard era took hold, Kym advanced his skills and transitioned his designs to meet the demands of the market. From the beginning, dating back to 2001, NSP built a strong partnership with Kym being the mastermind behind the popular PU Heritage Series. His Endless, Hooligan, Dream Rider and Fighting Fish shapes are integrated in the lightweight and sustainable CocoFlax series. Shapers Union is a collaboration between NSP and several world class shapers. Established to bring new life, energy and high performance to the surf range, Shapers Union is our way to showcase the incredible talent of Shapers who have collaborated with World Champions, both from longboarding and shortboarding.
NSP is currently teamed up with Hawaiian based Carl Schaper and the Australians, Tully St. John, Kym Thompson, and Marcie O’Neill. All masters at their trade, these shapers create the shapes that allow top-level surfers to achieve the impossible, while also providing groms with the gear that enables them to hone their skills from entry-level, right up to the tour.
Shapers Union boards will be predominately constructed using the latest high-performance Custom Surf Epoxy (CSE); the next-level in surfboard technology by NSP. Our very best craftsmen start out with a CNC-cut EPS core and sand it by hand into the final desired shape. Each shape then gets a different tried-and-tested glassing schedule with a UV-stable resin, along with fiber-reinforced tail patches, finalized with a satin rub finish. Shapers Union boards can be found in our popular Protech, Elements HDT and PU constructions.
Shapers Union board comes standard with NSP’s FTU fin box setup and the result is a high-performance surfboard with plenty of flex, generating speed and maneuverability unlike anything else. The new CSE longboards will also feature a wood stringer and carbon stringers on the bottom.

The NSP Pro-9 is designed by Carl Schaper as a performance longboard, and it is Bonga Perkins’ favourite all-around longboard. For over 20 years now, former 2-time World Champion Bonga has been riding slight variations of this shape. The most significant improvement is in the Pro-9’s nose riding capability. Bottom : Soft roll to mid V to V to double concave Rider : Intermediate – pro Wave Type : All conditions Shape: The Pro-9 is a longboard with as much shortboard crammed into it as possible. Carl Schaper will often point out the back-third of the board, as it fits almost perfectly on his 6’2” step up, with the same thickness, tail dimensions and rails. The bottom has a soft roll to V in the middle, running into V with a double concave in the tail. Designed as a single fin or quad fin setup, the Pro-9 is a low-volume, extremely high-performance longboard, capable of doing it all with tons of manoeuvring and solid nose-riding! Fin Set-up: The Pro-9 comes in a 4+1 fin configuration enabling you to be creative in your setup as a quad or thruster. NSP positioned the Surf 10 fin box slightly further back, to make it available for a thruster setup. The Pro-9 comes with FTU fin boxes, making it compatible with Futures® Fins (fins not included).

• The heritage of this shape comes from the most successful twin-fin designs of the late 70’s and 80’s, updated as a modern thruster. • The outline is wide with lots of area in the nose and a double wing swallow tail and a very distinctive and deep double concave V through the bottom. • Available in Terracotta tint or clear lamination, with satin rub and gloss rail finish. • The double winger tail is an intricate part of the design with the fins set next to the wingers for a water flow release point in the rail to shorten the radius of the turn, giving a quicker, snappier and turnier board. The Atomic Flyer has a history and you can begin to see it in the shape. The board is designed to be ridden by surfers of all levels and the multi-fin configuration allows each individual to set up the fins to meet their preference in small to medium sized waves. Wave type : All conditions Waves : 1-6ft Level : Entry to Advanced Key Features: A unique feature is the retro “beak” style nose profile, which is a result of maintaining some thickness and volume in the forward profile of the board. The purpose of this is to add stability to the board in small and less powerful waves. This increased volume delivers and helps maintain forward momentum and forward trim sensitivity.

The essence of the outline is defined by the double wings, which delivers a very purposeful function to this design. The objective of these “flyers” serves to increase the displacement and “trim” area throughout the board. This increase in the board’s displacement increases the volume under foot while maintaining a refinement in the tail outline. The result is an increased low speed dynamic. The soft diamond tail shape delivers a swallow tail like performance, but without the worries and maintenance issues associated to the pragmatic swallow tails. Other interesting features such as the flat deck, delivers a very unique and positive response feel under foot. In addition, the distinctive beveled rail concept not only adds to the retro look, it increases the form and function. This allows for volume throughout the board to be maintained without impacting and bulking up the rail and dulling the boards response and reactivity. Like all conventional fish shapes, the PU Kingfish has more volume and less rocker than typical shortboards, making it a great option for weak or mushy waves. • Wide nose pumps volume under riders chest adding flotation for paddling power, stability and easy entry into the smallest waves with quick acceleration. • The 6mm stringer doesn’t just look pleasing, it also improves strength and rigidity of the King Fish. • Rocker and rail outline are combined with single to double concave bottom, with V through the tail incorporated into a wide swallowtail. • The slight hip behind the front fins reduces the area under the back foot creating a pivot point for snappy turns. – Boxy and full rails also add to the over all volume and forgiving nature of this model. • The Kingfish performance delivers traction, down the line speed and maximum drive over the flattest of sections. OUR STORY
NSP was born in 2001 from the vision of Bruce “Buzz” Hansen, a life-long surfer, skater and all round waterman. While working on Maui as a custom surfboard builder, Buzz had an epiphany about producing affordable, versatile, durable and great performing surfboards. Buzz correctly realized there were everyday surfers who needed an affordable board that performed in Hawaii, yet they didn’t require “custom” or specialized competition or extreme surf boards.
His dream was a utilitarian surfboard that could ride in the back of a pick-up truck to the beach, be left in the sun all-day or loaned to a friend without fear of damage – of course it had to surf well enough to be given to his long-time surfing buddies, neighbors and friends. The quest began, so Buzz summoned his friends working for a leading composites manufacturer with the goal to create a light, very durable surf board at highly competitive prices. Working together they introduced a new epoxy technology that would go on to revolutionize the industry and quite possibly recreational surfing. Weekend and occasional surfers no longer had to rely on the ill- performing “foamies” or be relegated to the used board market. Our code name during development was “New Surf Project”. The name stuck and “NSP” was established. Over the years, we changed and evolved, and so did the name. Today, NSP stands for “Nature”, “Surfing” and “Products” because at the end of the day, that is what the company is all about.
Creating amazing products, firmly maintaining our surfing roots while we expand in other exciting water sports with the best possible designers, engineers and materials involved. And last but definitely not least; “Nature”. Choosing repurposed, recycled or renewable resources wherever we can is essential to us as a brand, creating a more sustainable future for ourselves and our sport.

At NSP we respect the environment and the world we play in. We are constantly looking for new ideas and innovative technologies to reduce the negative impact on our planet as we build surf, foil and SUP boards. We try to adhere to the basic principle that every product produced must have some form of environmentally sustainable component; whether it’s our CocoFlax technology, EPS core, recycled traction pads, bio-friendly resins, and our packaging. Surfing has been around for hundreds of years and we want to see it for another couple thousand.

NSP CocoMat is the world’s first and only Patent Pending construction that uses natural fibers from coconut husks to create a light and strong micro sandwich. Another industry leading innovation by NSP is the use of water based dye pigments in our CocoMat construction. These dyes use zero percent solvents or other toxic additives. In keeping with our pledge to pursue sustainable materials and manufacturing, NSP has introduced Flax Fiber Rail technology to the CocoMat series in 2019; resulting in the CocoFlax range. This already eco-friendly product benefits from this highly durable reinforced fiber made from the flax seed plant, and helps NSP in reducing the use of fiberglass and overall carbon footprint. In 2019, NSP was awarded Paddle Expo Product of the Year for the CocoFlax technology.
Harmless Harvest supplies NSP with coconut husks, a by-product from Thailand certified organic farms, for use in our CocoMat and CocoFlax boards. About Harmless Harvest: Harmless Harvest envisions a world where nutritious, clean, organic and healthy food and beverages are the standard rather than the exception; where all people involved in creating the product are treated with fairness; and the planet is treated harmlessly.
NSP was the first to incorporate shape molded SecureCell EPS blanks in our surf- and SUP manufacturing process. The result is almost zero foam dust waste.

ECO-FRIENDLY BOARD PACKAGING
We wanted to create a greener product packaging that would eliminate the landfills from excessive amounts of plastic. We joined Cobra Intl to find a solution that not only protects your board from dust, debris and scratches when being transported, but one that when you open the box for the first time you can immediately see that we are serious about the environment! We have a combination of kraft paper wrap and tissue paper that we use to package the boards and although we are striving to be 100% sustainable in our packaging, we are not quite there yet with our PU boards. We have yet to find a material that keeps the boards protected without scratching or damaging the clear coat- if you have any suggestions, please contact our product team to discuss. We are always open to hear how we can become better for the planet!
