TOWN SURFSIDE GAZETTE OF
APRIL 2017
MESSAGE FROM THE TOWN MANAGER
Cleanliness, Water Conservation and Earth Day all in the Spotlight for April Travel website Expedia recently completed a “Spring Cleaning” survey to rank the cleanest cities in America. Based on thousands of verified users, the 10 destinations that rated the cleanest were recently announced. Your Town of Surfside came in second place! Why Surfside? The survey results listed the many environmentally friendly initiatives that pushed our Town to the top. “Surfside, Florida has a thriving urban community garden and commitment to establishing a Clean Energy Coastal Corridor, this seaside community received a 4.75 average cleanliness rating. Surfside is also dedicated to sea turtle conservation, helping to protect the Loggerhead turtles that use the town’s shores as nesting grounds.” A thank you goes out to our Public Works and Solid Waste Department for their role in keeping our community tidy. We are again participating in the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation in April 2017. This annual event is a friendly competition to see which municipality can be most “water wise.” All you have to do is go to the website www.mywaterpledge.com. There is a one-click registration (no costs or gimmicks) and you, and Surfside, can win prizes for your water-saving ideas. All of this is happening in the month of April, when we celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. On Page 7, you can read about the Baynanza Shoreline Clean-up on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 and our very own Earth Day Resource Fair on Sunday, April 23 at the Community Center from 10 a.m - noon. Surfside is proving that a clean, environmentally-aware Town is also a prosperous, wonderful place to live. - Guillermo Olmedillo, Town Manager
