GAZETTE DECEMBER 2019
December Message from the Town Manager
With 2020 on the horizon, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to the residents of Surfside for making 2019 an excellent year. Thank you for your participation at Town Hall meetings and events, and for continuing to make this community a great place to live, work and play. Over the past year, we celebrated a number of successes. Notable achievements included the start of the Beach Renourishment Project, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Miami-Dade County, to revitalize the public beach in Surfside; the addition of environmentally-friendly policies, such as the Florida Friendly Landscape Principles; the installation of beachthemed mosaic street signs along the beach hardpack; and the improvements of Channel 663 featuring new lifestyle-centered content and segments. In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, countless residents and Town staff members also showed solidarity by donating emergency supplies to our neighbors in the Bahamas. The year is not quite over yet, and we invite residents to “support local” by attending the Surfside Farmers Market, held every Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm. Additionally, our Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for another exciting Winter Wonderland on Sunday, December 15 at 96th Street Park. Do not miss this family-friendly event! We warmly wish all residents a healthy and happy holiday season and New Year. May the holidays bring you great joy and prosperity. - Guillermo Olmedillo, Town Manager
