QUEENSLAND IS HOME TO WORLD-CLASS EVENTS

WELCOME

FROM THE SLSA PRESIDENT

President’s Message – The Aussies 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships—the largest surf lifesaving event in the world—proudly hosted by North Kirra, Tugun, and Bilinga Surf Life Saving Clubs.

This year’s Aussies come after a particularly challenging period, with recent weather events in Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales testing the resilience of many communities, including our own. Our thoughts are with those affected, and I want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our host clubs and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to ensure this event goes ahead. On behalf of the movement, thank you.

We are fortunate to have the continued support of Tourism and Events Queensland and the City of Gold Coast , who have helped make this event possible. Queensland has a deep connection with Surf Life Saving, and it’s fantastic to be back on these iconic beaches for nine days of outstanding competition.

This year, the Aussies has a fresh look and a new theme: “United, Inspired, Iconic.” The Aussies is more than just the largest event of its kind, it brings together our national movement in a spirited celebration of the best of our traditions, culture, people and sport.

While competition is at the heart of Aussies, what truly sets our athletes apart is their commitment to the movement. Every competitor water is also a volunteer lifesaver, giving their time to keep our beaches and communities safe. That is what makes Surf Life Saving truly unique.

I’m particularly excited that we are hosting adaptive events for the second year, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that surf sport is accessible to all. These races embody the spirit of inclusivity, and I have no doubt they will deliver some of the most inspiring moments of the championships.

Finally, I want to extend my gratitude to the officials, volunteers, safety personnel, and staff who make this event possible. Your dedication ensures that Aussies remains a highlight of the Surf Life Saving calendar and a celebration of everything that makes our movement great.

To all competitors—race hard, race fair, and enjoy the experience.

Yours in Surf Life Saving,

WELCOME

FROM THE SLSA CHAIR OF SPORT

Message from Andrew Buhk

On behalf of the SLSA Sport Advisory Committee, I warmly welcome all clubs, competitors, and visitors to the 2025 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

2025 has seen a tough lead up to the Aussies with bad weather making it mark. My sincere thanks to North Kirra, Biling and Tugun SLSC’ for their support in helping make the championship venues ready to go and for hosting the event this year. We will again be spread from Nth Kirra right up to Miami for Board Riding and I am sure that we will all enjoy the best of the Gold Coast over the 9 days.

The Aussies always brings moments of triumph and disappointment as our members compete for the ultimate goal, to be Australian Champions. I have no doubt that this year’s event will produce some outstanding competition and truly memorable experiences for all. I encourage everyone to compete in the spirit of surf lifesaving competition and once completed, share the traditional friendships and fun that goes with the Championships.

To all competitors, team managers, officials, water safety and support services, best wishes for a successful and enjoyable competition.

I look forward to seeing you on the beach.

WELCOME

FROM THE CITY OF GOLD COAST MAYOR

2025 Mayor Welcome Message

There’s something undeniably special about watching mate-versus-mate and state-versus-status in the ultimate test of surf life saving.

Affectionately known as The Aussies, this event is the pinnacle of surf life saving across Australia.

As Mayor, I’m thrilled to see our city again host this nine-day spectacle, with 480 events and around 7500 competitors.

Major events are big business for the coast and we aim high when it comes to delivering on expectations.

I know Surf Lifesaving Australia has set the bar high with the 2025 Aussies. We won’t let you down and I thank the organisation and its executive for choosing the Gold Coast for this special festival of surf lifesaving. I also wish the nippers and youth competitors success in their two-day championship, held as part of the overall program.

Our city is a breeding ground for champions not only at a national level but on the world surf lifesaving stage.

Over the next nine days, new champions will emerge, old rivalries will be rekindled and the spirit of competition, mateship and reward will shine through. Dust off the record books.

On behalf of the City, I welcome everyone to our lifestyle city and wish competitors, officials, sponsors and supporters success on and off the sand.

Enjoy the banter at the bar after each race day has wrapped up and try to stay a little longer, party a little harder and soak up the atmosphere in Australia’s favourite holiday backyard.

Go the Gold Coasters!
