A SNIPPET FROM SUPPLY

FROM THE FOUNDER Hi, West 6th Readers! Another month, another excuse to lean all the way into the season. August came in hot, colorful, and not particularly interested in being subtle. Utopia Goods arrived with a bold botanical collection that’s as lush as it is livable, including performance options ready to take the party outside. Isobel brought the drama with a Moroccan-inspired collection full of pattern and personality, while Imogen Heath gave us beautiful new wovens we’d happily cover just about anything in. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on The Lawns as our Vendor of the Month. Brooklyn-based founder Jess Murphy creates work that feels thoughtful, personal, and refreshingly unhurried. We sat down with Jess to talk about building a brand from the ground up, finding inspiration, and making beautiful things in a world that could stand to slow down a little. We’re also taking her new outdoor collection for a spin, and yes, it’s very good. Elsewhere, we rounded up some of our favorite pets and paired them with fabrics and wallpapers almost as good-looking as they are. Plus, a few things currently taking up space in our heads: sun-soaked schemes, tomato red everything, and a little back-to-school inspiration, because apparently summer can’t last forever. Here’s to the last long, hazy days of summer. More color, more pattern, more tomatoes, and absolutely no rushing into fall, maybe just the fall temps!

Vendor of the Month

The Lawns

Read on for an inter view wit h founder Jess Murphy!

VENDOR OF THE MONTH THE LAWNS Jess Murphy is the Brooklyn-based artist behind The Lawns, a studio making artisanal fabric and wallpaper rooted in community, craft, and the human touch. Her patterns begin as charcoal and pencil sketches — translated to scale, layered, and refined before reaching print — resulting in pieces Murphy describes as "designed to slow us down.” Describe your style in three words. Collected, colorful, inviting

VENDOR OF THE MONTH

THE LAWNS

What inspires you? More and more, I realize I’m deeply inspired by kids. Their wild imaginations, their colorful clothing, their impulsiveness and the general abandonment of the need to make sense. It’s all very cool. I still think kids are pretty annoying—I can safely say this now that I have one of my own—but damn if they’re not also the coolest little creatures that teach just as much as they learn. Is there a piece or project you've made that you're especially proud of? I’m really proud of our Snag Stripe fabric. It is a true engineering feat. Took over a year of product development to get right and achieve all the tall asks that I had of it (contract grade, made of recycled materials, soft, reversible, durable). I met Someone at a trade show who worked as a professor at RISD and she said her students study this fabric, which blew my mind.

JUST LAUNCHED

PRIMARY EFFECT The Lawns

Primary Effect is The Lawns' newest indoor/outdoor performance collection. The collection takes its name from the primacy effect, the cognitive bias in which first impressions form before familiarity dulls perception. Here, the parallel is color: hues that shift in potency as light changes throughout the day. The collection spans 10 colorways across four patterns: Berti, Gigi, Mina, and Nino. Colorways are named for the moments they inhabit rather than the colors they contain — Pool Party, Lawn Games, Sunburn, and Night Swim among them 8

JUST LAUNCHED Moroccan Musings by Isobel

Rooted in a 2022 trip to Morocco, the collection translates months of sketching, painting and tapestrymaking into four upholstery-weight patterns on a new cotton/linen blend, layering ancient geometric motifs with vibrant organic florals in a palette of coral, ocean, sea glass and warm stone. The collection introduces four designs: Grecian Grid, a bold interlocking geometric rooted in ancient Moroccan tilework; Floral Coral, a delicate allover botanical with softly scattered blooms; Fluttered Stripe, a painterly vertical with a loose, hand-drawn sensibility; and Organic Zig Zag, a fluid ikat-inspired chevron with a woven, sun-faded quality. 15
