Tackle Heavy Lifting With New Severe-Duty Pallet Forks Pallet forks are staple attachments when it comes to getting more versatility and productivity from compact equipment, and now, John Deere has an option for material-handling jobs of every scale with the new severe-duty pallet forks, the latest additions to the ever-expanding lineup of Worksite Pro attachments. Two new pallet forks (PF45 and PF60) are optimized to work with John Deere G-Series skid steers as well as G- and E-Series compact track loaders (CTLs), along with another pallet fork that was specifically designed for use on K-Series compact wheel loaders with the skid steer-style Quik-Tatch coupler. All new pallet forks are also compatible with most competitive models.

World Premieres Met A Large Audience In The Forest The world’s largest forestry fair was bigger than ever this year both in terms of area and number of exhibitors. Many visitors were drawn to Elmia Wood to see new forestry products and services and to learn about new hightech solutions and expertise in the forest south of Jönköping, Sweden.

“This has been a terrific fair,” said Edna Keane, CEO of Treemetrics, Ireland. “We’ve made contact with high-tech companies we didn’t know existed and met potential partners and customers from around the world.”

A total of 555 exhibitors from 28 countries were on the spot at Bratteborg to present their new products during four intensive days to visitors from six of the world’s continents. Many exhibitors participated in the fair’s new section, Load & Transport, with its theme of logistics and timber handling, which attracted many visitors.

Another visitor magnet was the fair’s new Drone Zone section, where conferences and live testing demonstrated the usability of drones in forestry applications.

“There’s been a lot of people and a lot of business done in the Drone Zone,” said Urban Wahlberg, CEO of Wabema and coordinator of the exhibitors there.

“I estimate that two-thirds of our visitors came from outside Sweden.”

Unique premieres Many of the world-leading suppliers gave unique premieres of their new forest machines.

“The number of international visitors has been greater than usual,” commented Tobias Johansson, the new CEO of Rottne, whose premieres included its new harvester, the Rottne H8D. “Our distributors in our export markets have met their customers here. We’ve also received enquiries from countries where we are not represented.”

“We’ve had many visitors,” said Carl-Johan Thell, sales rep for Liebherr in Sweden. “Our main target group is industrial customers, and they’re here.

We operate in an international market, and at our stand international visitors clearly dominated. In that way Elmia Wood is a good match for what we want to achieve at a trade fair.”

“We’ve had an excellent stream of visitors to our stand,” said Daniel Persson Nyström of ExTe Fabriks AB. “Our main market is hauliers. A predominant proportion of visitors to our stand came from abroad and there’s been a lot of interest in our products.”

“Better than Google” Visitors to the fair were also very satisfied with its large offering of new products and services.

“A fantastic fair,” commented Jan van der Sijde from South Africa. “I’ve been here for two days and it’s better than Google. Elmia Wood gives an overview of what’s available for the international forest industry.”

Volvo CE: Safety Is In Our DNA World Safety Day may only happen once a year, but at Volvo Construction Equipment, every day is a reason to work towards making the industry a safer place.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) marked April 28th 2017 as World Safety and

Health at Work Day, to promote the prevention of occupational accidents globally. Working in the construction industry is a risky business, in fact it’s ranked as one of the most dangerous industries to work in, alongside agriculture and waste. Last year, 43 workers in the

Increase Efficiency With The New Vermeer R250C Reclaimer Vermeer expands its fluid management product lineup with the introduction of the R250C reclaimer — a modular mud reclaimer that can be paired with a variety of directional drills, trailers, pit pumps and gensets on a jobsite. The design of the Vermeer R250C reclaimer helps to reduce the costs to conduct horizontal directional drill (HDD) projects. It is equipped with an innovative 45-degree manifold, a balanced elliptical shaker motion and scaled shaker deck, as well as several serviceability features to help increase overall productivity.

With a processing rate of 520 gpm (1968.4 L/ min) and a recommended consumption rate of 250 gpm (946.4 L/min), the Vermeer R250C reclaimer is best paired with drills in the 100,000 lb (45,359.2 kg) class. b

with care, to ensure the operator is as comfortable as possible during their working day, as lack of concentration and operator fatigue is a major factor in many site accidents.

There is no such thing as guaranteed safety, even well designed, well maintained equipment can be dangerous if misused.

However, last September at the Xploration Forum 2016, in Eskilstuna, Volvo CE offered a look into the future of construction, with the unveil of its autonomous machines. Although still at the concept stage, the L120 wheel loader and A25F articulated hauler prototypes have been upgraded with autonomous technology.

This increases safety in hazardous working environments by removing the operator from the machine to a place of safety, thereby eliminating the possibility of injury. This is not just theoretical; the prototype wheel loader has done ‘real work’ for a Volvo CE customer at an asphalt plant in Sweden.

Through training workshops, promotional activities and global initiatives, such as the ‘Zero

Deere Acquires The Wirtgen Group Deere adds five premium brands to construction equipment line-up with no product overlap, establishing a leadership position in road construction equipment.

eere & Company (NYSE: DE) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Wirtgen Group, a privately-held international company that is the leading manufacturer worldwide of road construction equipment.

The purchase price for the equity is b4.357 billion in an all-cash transaction.

The total transaction value is approximately b4.6 billion (US $5.2 billion based on current exchange rates), including the assumption of net debt and other consideration. The Wirtgen Group had sales of b2.6 billion in the year ending December 31, 2016. Deere expects the transaction to be accretive to earnings per share and currently expects to fund the acquisition from a combination of cash and new equipment operations debt financing. The transaction has been approved by Deere’s Board of Directors. The purchase is subject to regulatory approval in several jurisdictions as well as certain other customary closing conditions. The companies said they expect to close on the transaction in the first quarter of Deere’s 2018 fiscal year.

Transaction advisors included Citigroup as exclusive financial advisor to Deere, Linklaters LLP as deal legal counsel, Kirkland & Ellis LLP as securities legal counsel and EY as accounting and tax advisor.

Cat M315F & M317F Wheeled Excavators Deliver Job Site Agility The Cat M315F and M317F compact radius wheeled excavators are additions to the recently launched Cat F Series wheeled excavator range, reflecting the same customer focused design concept of their conventional radius counterparts, but providing customers the added choice of compactness. The new models make no compromise in power, performance, or stability, compared with their non-compact counterparts, and feature large working envelopes, high breakout forces, and high lifting capacities.

The new compact radius models offer a wide range of configurations, including undercarriage options and stick lengths.

Wide steering angles and optimum turning radius facilitate manoeuvring and simplify repositioning the machine. Available joystick steering further eases manoeuvring; allowing operators to keep both hands on the joysticks and continue working, even when moving the machine.

Tool Carrier Versatility The M315F and M317F are designed as tool carriers, having all necessary systems to change attachments in seconds from the safety of the cab, including medium and high pressure auxiliary hydraulic lines, and a monitor based tool control system. The tool control interface allows programming the machines for up to ten different flow/ pressure settings to accommodate a wide range of work tools.

Specific auxiliary functions are assigned on the joystick and foot pedal, allowing the operator to choose directly, through the monitor, which button and/or slider is preferred for a specific work tool.

For even greater versatility and manoeuvrability, an integrated optional Tilt-Rotator-Ready package is now available and provides a factory-installed, on-board platform for a Rototilt® tiltrotator.

Work tool controllability is ensured for the new models with a load-

sensing hydraulic system designed to provide fast cycles, generous lift capacities, and high bucket and stick forces. The machines have dedicated pumps for the swing function and for implement functions, resulting in faster, smoother combined movement. The hydraulic system also reduces the load on the engine by matching flow to load demand, translating into lower fuel consumption.

Power and Performance The 150 hp (112 kW) Cat C4.4 ACERT™ engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards and integrates an emission aftertreatment system that requires no attention other than periodically replenishing the diesel exhaust fluid tank. Emissions technology includes the Cat NOx-reduction system, selective-catalytic-reduction system, diesel oxidation catalyst, “fit for life” diesel particulate filter, and highpressure/common-rail fuel system.

The C4.4 ACERT engine provides quick response to changing loads while delivering constant power. It is designed to provide powerful, reliable performance in all operating situations, whether utility repair along urban streets, road construction, or large earth-moving projects that involve heavy-duty digging and lifting tasks.
