Volvo VNX – A Story Of Strength & Toughness into the Korean War Memorial, and then the beautiful Martin Luther King Jr Memorial complete with several of his quotes engraved into the stonework.

JEFF WATSON
At the end of September, a private event was held at the Volvo facility in Shippensburg, PA. It was open to select media members in support of their new VNX truck models, the VNX 300, VNX 440 and VNX 640. A vocational truck series for the North American market. The event took place on a Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday lunch. Of course, coming from the West Coast of Canada
made a Tuesday same-day flight and on-time arrival impossible, so a Monday flight was arranged. Given my desire to take advantage of short sight-seeing opportunities when I travel for work, I flew into Washington, DC on the Monday evening, about a 2h drive south of the Volvo facility. Tuesday morning I spent approximately 5 hours walking downtown DC. I had virtually the whole ‘Mall’ in downtown DC to myself. I walked towards the White House, down 17th St and through the park-like property past the Constitution Gardens, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Reflecting Ponds (unfortunately covered up still), the Lincoln Memorial (which is deceivingly massive), through the park
were being shown around the property and tidal basin. I ventured through the Women in War Memorial, then around to the Thomas Jefferson memorial. From there, up to the Washington monument, the Smithsonian, the National Air and Space museum and the US Capitol. After a walk around Capitol Hill, I was treated to a police mock drill where 30-40 police cars and motorcycles were running up and down Constitution Ave. Quite a sight! I walked back through the city to my hotel. DC is quite a mix of old and new architecture, with one building being modern and funky glass walled, and the next seemingly right out of the early 1800’s with roman numerals and pillars across the front. Current politics aside, I was impressed with the city and the way they have memorialized so many of their strongest and toughest heroes and leaders. Each monument space throughout the city is distinct and held to a high standard. I caught my ride up to the Volvo facility and talked a LOT of hockey with the driver, which was a welcome discussion. He was a little older than me, and knew a ton about the old Broad Street Bullies of the old days. Great chat. Upon arrival, guests were greeted at the hotel by an energetic Volvo team. Right from the start, the Volvo team were first class. From flight and accommodation planning, on-site greeters, tour guides, luncheon and breakout speakers, everyone was very well prepared

and able to answer all questions that the media team put out to them. It was an impressive program they put together. The evening portion began with a lovely dinner set in the great room complete with its open concept, glass walls for a full view of the Volvo Construction property. Excellent conversation was had with media members and Volvo staff. After a copious number of chocolate chip cookies, we were ushered outside for the main event. The official launch of the Volvo VNX. Off in the distance, in the blackness of night with a tiny sprinkle of rain, some lights emerged into view. Audio from inside the truck offered a hint that
a new player was in town. The Volvo VNX gravel truck, cement mixer, log truck and the enormous heavy haul truck paraded in from all 4 corners of view. The line-up was flanked by Volvo construction equipment helping with the demo including an impressive Volvo loader log pick, right from the trailer, in record time. With the trucks coming past and showing off their features and the live commentary, it came across more like an airshow than a truck demo and was an impressive demonstration showing the trucks hauling and harsh terrain capabilities. At the conclusion of the moving demo, we were invited to see the trucks up close, speak with drivers and Volvo person-
nel. Wednesday morning, after a set of breakout sessions on each model, it was the time for us media-types to shine. It was demo day!! Having been in this business almost 30 years, I’ve tried a few pieces of equipment here and there, but never a truck. I was excited for the chance to get behind the wheel. First up was the gravel truck. I had a Volvo chaperone riding shotgun who walked me through the whole thing. A quick explanation and we were off. Smoother and far less complicated than I thought it would be. We drove the 1-mile circuit, then over the hilly section back down the middle. Even through some big dips and potholes, the truck was strong and sturdy

Volvo had their line-up of articulated trucks on display. and easily maneuverable. The best was yet to come though, as I jumped into the massive VNX640 complete with a lowbed loaded with a Volvo wheel loader. Much to my surprise, the complete package was incredibly easy to drive. I drove the same track as I had just run in the gravel truck and I barely knew the trailer was back there. Strong, smooth and tough. I guess 540hp and 1950 lbft of torque will do that. When the demo time was complete, I managed to jump into a quick factory tour of the Volvo construction equipment factory just up the road, which was a real treat. For me, this was an incredible experience. A
whirlwind trip, first class Volvo hospitality and a new found appreciation for the work our readers do every day. I do hope you’ll check out the new VNX models as they arrive at your local Volvo dealerships. I have no doubt you’ll see the same first class service along with the well-adver-

On the 959ML, the new Live Heel availability with the FL90 further expands reach and flexibility for directional felling applications. In addition, both shovel logger models feature a new, integrated control system that enables advanced productivity tools including stem counting, diameter measuring and access to TimberMatic Maps, helping operators collect valuable production data while improving jobsite visibility and planning.
Further enhancing performance in steep-slope applications, a new longer undercarriage option is available for the 859ML and 959ML Shovel Loggers. Designed in response to customer feedback, the longer track frame increases overall ground engagement to provide greater machine stability when working on steep slopes while reducing ground pressure across the machine footprint by approximately 5%. The updated undercarriage also features an additional slide and roller for improved track support, along with updated leveling pins and bushings designed to maintain tighter more consistent joints for enhanced operator comfort and productivity. LiuGong Launches Battery-Electric Construction And Material Handling Models LIUGONG
20,000 hours. 60,000 machines. A proven electric platform.
856HE Battery-Electric Wheel Loader LiuGong North America has announced the commercial availability of its battery-electric construction and material handling portfolio, bringing to North
America a proven electric platform supported by more than 60,000 battery-electric machines operating globally and validated through millions of operating hours in
real-world applications. Before introducing battery-electric equipment to North America, LiuGong spent more than 15 years proving its technology where

it matters most: on working jobsites. While the heavy equipment industry continues to expand its adoption of battery-electric machines, LiuGong is introducing a platform refined through multiple generations of deployment across mining, ports, aggregates, tunneling, municipal operations, warehouses, container terminals, and construction projects worldwide. Operational data collected from thousands of working machines has driven continuous improvements in battery performance, charging systems, thermal management, diagnostics, serviceability, and long-term durability. That experience has enabled LiuGong to bring a mature electric platform to North America that has already demonstrated its performance under demanding real-world operating conditions. One LiuGong batteryelectric wheel loader has surpassed 20,000 operating hours in continuous production service—roughly the equivalent of a decade or more of operation for many wheel loaders. Those hours were accumulated on an active jobsite rather than un-
der controlled testing conditions, providing real-world validation of the platform’s durability, productivity, and long-term reliability. For North American contractors, fleet owners, ports, municipalities, and industrial operators, LiuGong’s battery-electric portfolio represents a mature, commercially proven platform designed to deliver the performance, uptime, and reliability expected from heavy equipment without requiring customers to become early adopters of first-generation technology.
Available Today in North America LiuGong’s initial North American battery-electric portfolio includes the 856HE Battery-Electric Wheel Loader, 820TE BatteryElectric Loader, 924FE Battery-Electric Excavator, and LRSE4531E Fully Electric 45-Ton Reach Stacker, along with a growing range of battery-electric forklifts, warehouse equipment, and material handling solutions. This initial lineup marks the beginning of a broader North American rollout, with additional battery-electric products expected throughout

2027 as LiuGong continues expanding and validating its electric equipment portfolio for the region. Together, these machines represent one of the industry’s broadest battery-electric equipment portfolios available from a single manufacturer.
Designed Around Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) For most fleet owners, the decision to electrify ultimately comes down to economics. According to LiuGong, its battery-electric machines are priced below competing battery-electric models while reducing operating costs by approximately 40 to 50 percent compared with comparable diesel equipment. Lower energy consumption, fewer service requirements, and simplified maintenance help reduce Total Cost of Ownership throughout the machine’s operating life. Those performance and operating cost advantages are the result of more than 20 years of battery research and development and more than 15 years of commercial electric equipment experience. Skyjack Expands Manufacturing For SJ85 AJ Articulating Boom Skyjack announces the manufacturing expansion for the popular SJ85 AJ rough terrain articulating boom to their manufacturing facility in Orosháza, Hungary. This expanded manufacturing will harness the skillset of Skyjack’s simply reliable OROS team to better serve customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. “Skyjack is efficiently and effectively serving global customers using a bolstered regional structure that shortens the supply chain with localized product development,” shared Skyjack President Charlie Patterson. “Our team in Hungary is eager to seize this opportunity to replicate the outstanding work being done by our build team in Ramos, Mexico to produce our largest articulating boom, the SJ85 AJ, and continue to deliver outstanding customer support. It is an exciting time for Skyjack and our global customers.” Skyjack’s OROS team is
currently building a range of diesel, electric, and hybrid articulating booms, and diesel and electric rough terrain scissor lifts. While the SJ85 AJ has been available internationally for some time, produced at Skyjack’s manufacturing facility in

SUPPLYPOST.COM/NEWS Ramos, Mexico, Skyjack’s localization strategy and manufacturing expansion to Orosháza will ensure this popular and durable rough terrain articulating boom can support more jobsites
around the globe. The SJ85 AJ articulating boom offers a great platform height of 25.91 m (85’), horizontal outreach of 17.07 m (56’), and a superior upand-over clearance of 10.36 m (34’). Combining this outstanding reach envelope with dual platform capacities of 340/227 kg (750/500 lbs) and a two/three personnel rating, sets the SJ85 AJ apart, making it the most efficient machine for operators looking to maximize productivity and jobsite performance. The SJ85 AJ features an open center-knuckle design, compact stowed dimensions for easy transportation and reduced tail-swing, a 360-degree continuous turret rotation, and a modular rail system that makes it easy to service and replace individual rail sections.
The Forestry Workhorse Feller Harvesters Feller Bunchers Shovel Loggers Log Loaders
Built to perform. Engineered for productivity. Dependable, high-performance forestry equipment engineered to meet the demands of modern logging operations.
Skyjack SJ8 5AJ This large boom features a durable and low-maintenance AXLDRIVE, which provides a true mechanical four-wheel drive system, with an oscillating steer axle and manually controlled rear locking differential for superior traction and up to 45% gradeability. This industry-leading terrain capability means one can use Skyjack boom lifts in the most challenging of conditions. EASYDRIVE is an intuitive direction sensing function that allows the machine to move in the general direction of the joystick’s movement, where forwards is forwards and backwards is backwards. There is no need to coordinate coloured directional arrows on the base of the machine. SKYRISERTM technology ensures that the riser and main pivot point connecting the fly boom to the riser travel in a straight vertical line. Movement in a true vertical manner, without drifting forward or back, reduces the amount of reposition-
ing the operator needs to do in order to stay close to a building facade, improving productivity. SPEEDYREACH technology provides the ability to cycle between maximum height and ground level without the need to engage the riser function which helps to save the operator time. Electrical controllers integrate into Skyjack’s existing SkyCoded control system, maintaining commonality and ease of troubleshooting. Customers can stay connected with machine performance using the ELEVATE Live scanning QR code for easy access to serial number-specific information and service data using any smartphone (no app or password required).
“The Skyjack team designs our innovative articulating booms to maximize uptime and longevity. The SJ85 AJ features a new, improved easy-to-understand control system, with an onboard digital diagnostics display that allows operators to see real-time, simple language readouts. No plug-in calibration is necessary for day-to-day troubleshooting and all major service points are easily accessible,” highlights Mark Trowman, Skyjack’s Product Development Manager. “Skyjack booms are renowned for a superior driving experience, a consistent, multi-function capability, and machine reliability.” SP Source: Skyjack

VERMEER
Vermeer introduces the MT500 material transporter for ground-mount solar pile layout.
The Vermeer MT500 material transporter consistently and precisely delivers and places W-beam piles on ground-mount solar jobsites with minimal labor. Operated by one person with the push of a button, it eliminates manual pile lifting. The new Vermeer MT500 material transporter consistently and precisely delivers and places 10 ft to 25 ft (3.05 m to 7.6 m) W-beam piles on ground-mount, utility-scale solar jobsites with minimal labor. Operated by one person with the push of a button, the MT500 eliminates manual pile lifting. “Solar contractors are looking for ways to do more with the crews they have, and accuracy matters on every pile,” said Ed Savage, product manager, Vermeer. “The MT500 brings a level of consistency to the layout process that is hard to achieve manually, and it does it with minimal user inputs and one person running the machine.”
solar jobsites, pile layout involves a crew operating skid steers or telehandlers to move pile bundles from the staging area to the required pile positions. It is labor-intensive work, and consistent, accurate placement is difficult to achieve at scale. The automated arm on the MT500 picks each pile and places it on the correct pile plan position with the push of a button, handling piles up to 400 lb (181.44 kg). Compatible with third-party GPS systems, the MT500 uses point-to-point and row-torow automation to move accurately across the solar field. Cat Introduces New D11 XE Electric Drive Dozer The first electric drive large dozer by Caterpillar provides higher fuel efficiency, more production, and lower total cost of ownership than the next generation Cat D11. Mining operations depend on dozers that move more material efficiently while helping control fuel consumption and operating costs. The new Cat D11 XE electric drive dozer is designed to help customers do exactly that, delivering up to 25% less fuel consumed per unit of material moved and moving 5% to 10% more material per hour than the next generation Cat D11. Its electric drivetrain has 60% fewer moving parts than a mechanical drive system, helping simplify service and lower owning and operating costs over the life of the machine. Helping drive the D11 XE’s productivity, efficiency and durability improvements are upgrades throughout the machine’s powertrain and major systems. The Cat C32B engine operates at a lower high-
idle speed to help the D11 XE deliver up to 20% longer life between rebuilds than the D11. Planned component repair intervals for the engine, final drives and hydraulic systems increase from 15,000 to 18,000 hours,

Designed to improve efficiency while reducing drivetrain complexity, the electric drive system eliminates the bevel gear used in mechanical drive systems. The engine drives a generator that sends power through an inverter to two motors, delivering clean, consistent power to the tracks. “The D11 XE is designed to help customers get more from every hour of operation. By combining the proven capability of the D11 platform with the benefits of electric drive, it delivers meaningful gains in productivity, efficiency and lifecycle value,” said Luke Fischer, product application specialist for Caterpillar. “It also reflects how far dozer performance has advanced, offering up to 25% greater efficiency than today’s D11 and up to 140% greater efficiency than the first D11N introduced in 1986.”

tors a clear view of machine performance and convenient access to operating settings. Together, these features help operators work more consistently and productively throughout the shift.
Lower Total Cost Of Ownership
Built On Proven D11 Performance
Integrated solutions help D11 XE operators work more efficiently, accurately and consistently. Available onboard features include: • AutoCarry provides automatic blade control during the carry segment to reduce fatigue, help maintain optimum track slip and increase productivity by up to 15%. • 3D Grade Control uses dual ROPS-mounted GNSS antennas and blade-mounted inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors to precisely position the cutting edge without blade-mounted masts or cables. • Automated Blade Assist (ABA) uses standard dualtilt capability to automate blade movement to key pitch positions, helping increase efficiency and reduce operator workload. • Automatic ripper control automatically adjusts engine speed and ripper depth to maximize productivity, minimize track slip and reduce machine wear. The D11 XE can also be equipped with Cat MineStar solutions that help operators work more accurately, safely and efficiently. Command for dozing offers multiple levels of remote control and semi-autonomous operation, allowing the operator to work away from the cab. Terrain capabilities help reduce fuel use and rehandling through automated functions and blade overcut protection. Terrain for grading provides guidance such as bench heights, cycle times and material cutand-fill volumes to help operators improve machine efficiency. SP
The Cat C32B engine delivers the same power and performance as the Cat C32, with heavier-duty internal components designed for greater durability and longer life. Compared with the D11, the D11 XE can achieve similar total operating hours with one fewer rebuild over the machine’s life, helping lower total cost of ownership. The electric drive generator and motors are designed to last through two machine lives with only rebearing and resealing, reducing the investment required during every other rebuild. A modular design allows major components to be removed independently, helping streamline service and minimize downtime. “Together, these design choices mean fewer service touches and more time available for productive work,” Fischer added. A new radiator guard and upgraded case and frame help improve durability, extend machine life and reduce maintenance downtime. Larger lift-cylinder trunnion bearings simplify service. Redesigned pin joints with replaceable bearings eliminate the need for line boring and simplify bearing-insert replacement on the ripper, blade and push-arm trunnions. Up to 85% parts commonality with the D11 further supports serviceability through shared components and a familiar modular design. Source: Caterpillar

The updates give customers more flexibility to use the machines for different jobs, while improving service access and everyday operation. Making their public debut at the GaLaBau trade show in Nuremberg in September, the updated L30 and L35 feature a redesigned rear section, improved service access and a redesigned cab entrance. The upgrades build on the established performance of the L30 and L35 compact wheel loaders, including strong lifting and breakout forces, precise pallet fork handling and excellent traction. “The L30 and L35 loaders have long been top choices among our customers thanks to their ability to tackle a variety of tasks across applications, including in construction, landscaping and farming,” said Darren Ashton, Product Manager – Compact Equipment at Volvo CE. “These newest updates give fleets even greater versatility. Switching between tasks is easier than ever, servicing is more straightforward,
the installation of additional hydraulic or electrical equipment. These updates complement existing uptime features that include ground-level service access, extended service intervals and machine monitoring with Volvo ActiveCare Direct advanced telematics system. Operators will also notice an updated cab entrance, with three ergonomically positioned steps, well-placed handrails and a wide-opening door providing straightforward access throughout the working day. Inside, a high seating position and good all-round visibility provide a clear view of the machine, attachment and surrounding jobsite. Low in-cab noise, heating and optional air conditioning, an adjustable steering column and ergonomic joystick help keep operators comfortable throughout the working day. A 5-inch display, intuitively controlled via a jog wheel, provides easy access to key machine information. “The L30 and L35 are already proven machines, so our focus with these updates was on listening to operator feedback and making work easier,” said Ashton. “We’ve added practical improvements that keep maintenance straightforward and boost site output, helping customers get even more done every day.” Production of the updated Volvo L30 and L35 compact wheel loaders is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with orders anticipated to ship shortly thereafter. SP
and operators get the daily performance they need to get the job done.” The redesigned rear of the L30 and L35 compact wheel loaders includes new mounting points that simplify the installation of rear-mounted equipment. Different trailer couplings can also be fitted quickly, while hydraulic and electric connections can be added or retrofitted with less installation work. This added flexibility complements the hydraulic capabilities of the L30 and L35, including adjustable auxiliary flow and high-flow hydraulics of up to 26.4 g/min on the L30 and 29.1 g/min on the L35, to support a wide range of attachments. The redesigned rear of the models also gives technicians better access for servicing and repairs. Split side-mounted counterweights can be removed when needed, while a larger opening in the front frame improves access to key components and simplifies Source: Volvo CE

Liebherr-Canada Creating Skilled Trades Opportunities
LIEBHERR CANADA
In March this year, Liebherr-Canada welcomed a group of 20 women into its Acheson branch to get a closer look at the skilled trades careers they’d been training for with Women Building Futures.
in WBF’s community of practice by attending webinars, conferences, various training sessions and networking events. “The March site visit at Acheson was part of a new endeavour within the partnership that gives WBF participants the chance to see our branches up close, meet our employees and take part in workshops across our different product segments,” explains Walton. “That first site visit was a big success and has generated a lot of interest and new applications for job openings with Liebherr-Canada.”
from Canada’s Mining Industry Human Resources Council, women make up 19 % of the workforce within Canadian mining – an all-time high for the sector. While this represents promising progress – particularly as it’s above the global average of 10 to 13 % – this still falls considerably short of the national

average of 47 % across all industries. Partnering with organizations like WBF is one way that Liebherr-Canada is working to help close that gap. “We’re planning to host events like the one that took place in March twice a year moving forward, and to expand our collaboration into new provinces in Canada
where Liebherr and WBF operate. In fact, the next event is currently planned for July,” says Walton. “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done with WBF and hope to encourage more women to give careers in the skilled trades a go.” SP Source: Liebherr-Canada

From the classroom to a career
Women Building Futures (WBF) is a Canadian non-profit organization that helps women and gender diverse people develop the skills and the tools needed to enter skilled trades such as construction, power engineering and heavy vehicle operation. With this March visit, Liebherr-Canada wanted to give the group a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to work with the Liebherr Group – specifically the mining, deep foundation and duty cycle equipment, earthmoving and mobile and crawler cranes product segments. The group toured the Acheson facilities, learned about the history of Liebherr and chatted with members of the Liebherr-Canada team to get a better understanding of what their work looks like from day to day.
“We’ve since been in contact with the women who visited us to discuss open roles within Liebherr-Canada,” says Samantha Walton, Liebherr-Canada’s director of human resources. “We’re pleased to say that one of the WBF candidates from that March visit joined our Acheson team as a labourer in June.”
Building career pathways together
After completing her training through WBF, Katelin Mah went on to secure a role as a shipper & receiver at Liebherr-Canada’s Acheson branch. What began as a short-term opportunity in June 2025 soon became something more. After three months, Katelin was offered a permanent position and has been part of the Acheson team ever since. “WBF gave me the confidence I needed before stepping into the workforce, helping me to discover which trade I’m both best at and genuinely enjoy. Transitioning from WBF into my role at LiebherrCanada felt seamless. I arrived prepared, knowing what to expect and how to show up as my best self in any situation,” says Mah.
Liebherr-Canada has worked with WBF since 2022, with the aim of creating opportunities for women to enter the skilled trades and get valuable hands-on experience in these workplaces with supports such as mentors and ongoing training. As one of WBF’s Employers of Choice, Liebherr- Closing the gap in mining Canada actively participates According to 2025 data

Recognized by Two Leading Landscape Publications Both awards for the TL100EV come from respected publications in the professional landscape industry. Green Industry Pros, a top source for landscape professionals, reaches a broad audience of landscape contractors, architects, builders, ground maintenance facilities and chemical lawn care companies. Their 2026 Editor’s Choice Award recognizes the hottest products, equipment and software in the landscape industry. OPE+Landscape added its own endorsement with a Twenty for 2026 New Product Award. Each year, the OPE+Landscape team selects the 20 best new products from the past year they believe have the biggest impact on the landscape industry. Winners were chosen based on innovation, marketability and application within the industry. “Innovation doesn’t always mean reinventing the wheel,” said Brian Ethridge, Managing Editor, OPE+Landscape. “Sometimes it’s a smarter way to solve an everyday challenge. That’s what impressed us most about this year’s winners. The best products don’t ask professionals to change the way they work; they simply help them do it better.”
The TL100EV Performs Like a Diesel CASE purpose-built the TL100EV as an electric machine designed to match the proven performance and capability of its diesel counterpart, the CASE TL100 — one of the first constructiongrade mini track loaders on the market. That foundation gives this electric model the specifications needed for demanding jobsites. With a 1,000-pound rated operating capacity, the TL100EV does the work of a loader, lifter and attachment carrier in one versatile, compact platform. It runs on a 102-volt, 21.2-kWh battery platform with three electric motors — two 11-horsepower motors for the ground drive and one 33-horsepower motor for the hydraulics — delivering more torque and performance than a similarly sized diesel model, even during challenging multi-function tasks. To navigate tight spaces, the TL100EV offers a nar-

row 7-inch track option that lets operators easily squeeze through standard 36-inch doorways or backyard gates. Or if teams prefer more stability and a bigger bucket, a 10-inch track option offers better flotation and less ground disturbance to prevent deep rutting. Factoryavailable non-marring tracks are also an option to protect decorative hardscapes and finished surfaces.
crews fine-tune the machine to the task at hand. A modern operator display panel also makes work easier with quick attachment selection, multiple work modes and user-friendly controls. And for ground-leveling work like grading, the boom float functionality adds extra efficiency and smoother operation.
Versatility to Open New Jobsite Opportunities
The TL100EV provides up to seven hours of total runtime on a full charge, depending on the application. The charging system fits smoothly into day-to-day work, with an onboard automotive-style J1772 charger that plugs into common AC sources and recharges in less than 8 hours. It’s also equipped for offboard fast charging, allowing 2- to 6-hour recharge times, depending on utility power. CASE backs the TL100EV with a 2-year/2,000-hour base vehicle warranty and 3-year/3,000-hour battery and EV component warranty. Combined with lower daily operating costs and reduced maintenance demands, that coverage helps landscaping crews protect their investment and take on jobs with greater peace of mind. “At CASE, we provide practical innovations that help crews stay ahead of the curve. We started with our rugged, game-changing TL100 as one of the first true pro-level mini track loaders in the industry, and now we have the electrified TL100EV edition to deliver even more versatility,” Anderson said. “The needs of the contractors behind the controls are evolving, and we’re answering with equipment to help them work faster, smarter and more effectively. This recognition from respected equipment thought leaders tells us we’re building machines the industry needs.” SP
The TL100EV is designed for jobsites where using traditional diesel equipment may be challenging. Its ultraquiet operation allows crews to work during off hours or in noise-sensitive areas like golf courses or residential areas, while zero-emissions power enables use in restrictive environments, including indoor work where managing exhaust would be a challenge. The electric machine stands out with its range of capabilities. Using a Common Industry Interface (CII) coupler and standard auxiliary hydraulics, operators can connect more than 40 industry-standard attachments. Crews don’t need to invest in a completely new set of specialized tools to put the machine to work. That flexibility shows up on the jobsite, where the mini track loader can easily switch from an auger for tree planting to a trencher for irrigation or a grapple for brush clearing. With so many attachment options available, the TL100EV can serve as a loader, digger, dozer, snowblower, mower and breaker, proving that going electric does not mean compromise.

BCIT Offers Industrial Program Milestones 2018, the program Wood Processing Program hasSince made a substantial impact Since its launch in 2018, the Associate Certificate in Industrial Wood Processing has grown into a leading workforce development program in the forestry sector. Developed by the School of Construction and the Environment (SoCE) at BCIT in partnership with four leading North American lumber companies, the program was designed to meet a clear industry need: practical, flexible technical training that fits the realities of mill operations. Designed for employees working directly in wood products manufacturing, IWP focuses on the fundamentals that matter on the mill floor: helping new hires, experienced operators, and emerging supervisors build a strong understanding of how sawmills operate and how production decisions impact quality, efficiency, and safety.
Designed by Industry, for Industry From the beginning, the IWP Program has been shaped by industry input. The program development
was led by Canfor, Tolko, West Fraser and Interfor, and has since grown to have over 34 companies sponsor employees to participate in the program, using it as part of onboarding, upskilling, and succession planning. “The IWP program is top-notch,” says Ethan Griffin, Mill Manager at Interfor and a program graduate. “It’s challenging and there’s a lot of work, but it’s incredibly rewarding. The fact that industry leaders and even competitors came together to build this program shows how committed we are as an industry to developing technical skills and supporting the next generation.” The program’s unique structure – five online courses completed over one year – makes it accessible for full-time employees while maintaining strong learning outcomes through expert-led
ness and leadership capabilities of mill managers and emerging leaders, with a focus on financial management, strategic planning, and operational decision‑making to improve efficiency and profitability. Together, the programs provide a dual pathway to career growth in one of BC’s most vital industries.

Well-Designed Compact Equipment Makes Light Work Even Better Compact machines are becoming more capable, yet the best engineering often asks less of the operator. Cédric Durand, Chief Product Officer at Yanmar CE, reflects on why new technology must remain grounded in the realities of the jobsite. At CSPI-EXPO 2026 in Chiba, Japan, interest in automation and digital transformation was driven by a practical concern, as the construction industry looks for ways to respond to persistent labor shortages. Yanmar Compact Equipment (Yanmar CE) presented its ViO30-7 zero-tail-swing mini excavator with blade 3D machine control, alongside remote-operation technology and its Active Tip-over Mitigation System. Together, the technologies pointed to a broader shift in which equipment takes a more active role in the task. As machines interpret more information and begin to support deci-
sions, greater capability must remain understandable inside the cab. That shift is also attracting regulatory attention. In Europe for example, the EU Machinery Regulation begins to apply in January 2027, replacing the Machinery Directive and updating safety requirements for software-enabled equipment. For Cédric Durand, Chief Product Officer at Yanmar CE, the response begins with the purpose of the technology and the people whose work it is intended to improve. “The question is always how a solution performs in real conditions,” he explains. “It has to integrate into the way people work.”
Start where the work happens This way of thinking has deep roots at Yanmar. In
1968, as Japan’s construction boom sharpened labor shortages and increased costs, the company introduced the YNB300, widely regarded as the first diesel-powered, selfpropelled mini excavator. It brought mechanization into spaces that larger equipment struggled to reach. Zero-tailswing design later answered the same need by making confined work more manageable. The technology has changed, while the development logic remains familiar. Engineering begins with the conditions in which the machine must perform – conditions that are difficult to understand from a specification sheet alone. A control that appears logical during development may feel very different over a long shift, while rental machines must often work for operators with widely varying levels of experience. “You learn different things beside a machine than you do around a design table,” says Durand. “A small source of hesitation, repeated throughout the working day, can become the starting point for a meaningful change.” The recently launched SV10 shows how that pro-

cess works in practice. The machine had originally been due to reach the market earlier, but field testing with customers in Italy, the UK and France identified a concern around stability. While the overall response to the prototype was positive, Yanmar decided to hold back the launch and address the issue. The development team made targeted changes to the undercarriage and track structure, as well as the rear counterweight, before bringing the revised machine to market. Customer response since launch has been positive, reflecting a development process in which feedback from the field can directly influence the finished machine. “Feedback becomes valuable when it changes a design decision,” Durand shares. “The operator may never see the engineering discussion behind that change, but they will feel the difference every time they use the machine.”

The same principle takes on a different form at the smallest end of the excavator market, where the machines often work where access is part of the challenge. Renovation projects may require equipment to pass through an existing building, while urban infrastructure work can leave little room to maneuver. At 740 mm wide, the SV10 can pass through a standard doorway, before expanding its undercarriage to 990 mm once in position. It is a design shaped around the sequence of the task: negotiate restricted access first, then establish a firmer stance for digging. Its layout also reflects the realities of rental fleets, where machines move between users and need to be put to work quickly. Repositioned side levers create more operating space, while the controls are arranged to make familiarization straightforward. A tilting engine hood provides direct
access for daily checks. “For contractors and fleet owners, usability affects how quickly a machine can begin work and how consistently it earns its place on site,” confirms Durand.
When the machine begins to assist As machines take a more active role in the work, the relationship between assistance and understanding becomes increasingly important. Often, the most successful intervention is one that asks almost nothing extra of the operator. Yanmar’s Safety Joystick, for example, activates the controls only when the operator intends to use the machine. Accidental contact does not activate the equipment, while the controls lock when the operator leaves the seat. Built into a familiar movement, the protection adds no display or sequence for the operator to manage. “New technologies create opportunities, but they also introduce complexity,” Durand says. “The priority is to ensure that complexity does not sit with the operator.” Active Tip-over Mitigation gives the machine a more direct role in managing risk. By assessing how the payload interacts with the machine’s posture on sloping ground, the system can limit certain commands as tipping risk increases.
Technology with a lighter touch
model, including travel over soft ground and excavation. The principle was then applied to an electric prototype based on the ViO25 mini excavator, using a Series Elastic Actuator to sense and regulate applied force. Development is continuing, with Yanmar now supporting field testing with customers on real jobsites to understand where the technology can bring the greatest practical advantage. With that work still in progress, further details remain under wraps for now. “Force Control will help make heavy lifting and handling safer and easier by precisely sensing and controlling applied force,” says Durand. “The aim is to reduce physical strain and improve productivity, allowing work that once required several people to be completed more efficiently by a smaller team.”
Progress that can be felt Yanmar frames this approach through two design ideas: “Intrinsic Design” begins with the purpose the machine must serve. “Gentleness & Toughness” brings the resilience required on site together with greater consideration for the person relying on it. Progress is judged by whether the engineering solves a real problem, in real conditions. “Technologies will continue to evolve, but our measure of progress should remain practical,” concludes Durand. “A development has value when people can use it with confidence, in the environments for which it was designed.” Perhaps the most successful engineering eventually recedes into the task itself. Its assistance arrives without interrupting concentration, while the sophistication within the machine is felt through work that becomes steadier in the operator’s hands. SP
Some practical engineering questions begin far from an ordinary jobsite. Yanmar’s Force Control research grew partly from the challenge of future construction on the Moon, where communication delays mean machinery must respond to changing terrain without constant direction from Earth. Working with JAXA’s Space Exploration Innovation Hub Center, Yanmar tested a force-controlled robotic arm on a lunar-rover research Source: Yanmar CE

REVO 1200T: A More Efficient, Sustainable Tertiary Crusher REVO-lutionizing the industry. Across quarrying, aggregates and recycling, operators are under increasing pressure. From reducing waste to improving environmental performance without compromising productivity. In a circular economy, the goal is not simply to crush more material. It is to recover more value from every ton processed. As Scientific Reports notes, quarrying can be associated with “significant amounts of waste production, and resource loss.” For quarry operators, demolition contractors and recycling businesses, that creates a clear challenge: how can we strike a good balance between environmental protection as well as a proficient exercise in industrial operations? The Screenpod REVO 1200T is designed to make that difference. Built as a hybrid reversible impact crusher for secondary and tertiary crushing, the REVO 1200T combines diesel-electric flexibility, consistent product grading, extended wear-part life and optional dust suppression to support more sustainable material processing. Fuel use remains a major concern for quarrying and aggregate operations. Following the UK’s red diesel rule changes in 2022, quarry operators were warned they would be “paying a lot more for their fuel,” making diesel dependency both a financial and environmental issue. The REVO 1200T addresses this challenge by offering you hybrid operation with its own genset or connect to an external power supply where available. This flexibility also gives operators greater control over fuel consumption and site integration. Where electric power is available, the REVO 1200T reduces reliance on diesel, supporting lower operating costs and a more sustainable crushing process. The management of materials is now a priority across quarrying, construction, demolition and recycling. Fines, rejected material, transport costs and stockpiling all place pressure on day-to-day operations. The REVO 1200T
supports a more circular approach by helping operators process a wide range of materials. This includes aggregates, asphalt, concrete, construction and demolition waste, glass recycling, aerated concrete, natural rock, sand and stone. At the heart of the machine is a six-hammer reversible rotor. The rotor works bi-directionally within the crushing chamber. The result is more usable, saleable aggregate and less material left rejected or stockpiled. Paul McGoldrick, Managing Director of Screenpod, has spoken about how he feels the REVO 1200T can revolutionise the industry. “We want businesses to know that we have designed and manufactured our machines from the ground up to ensure we assist in whatever environmental challenges may arise as well as adapt to new ones.” Unexpected breakdowns can affect far more than one machine. Downtime can disrupt production schedules, increase fuel use, delay material movement and place additional pressure on the wider fleet. The REVO 1200T, however, has been engineered to reduce this impact through even wear across the hammers and impact bars. This helps extend service life and reduce replacement-part consumption. By improving wear performance and supporting easier maintenance access, the REVO 1200T helps operators reduce downtime, lower maintenance-related waste and maintain a more efficient crushing operation over the long term. Bill Martin, our Senior Design Engineer, talks about the needs required for the design of the REVO and what makes the machine uniquely Screenpod: Source: Screenpod

Sustainable Crushing With Screenpod REVO 1200T
“When the project came up to create something that was flexible and adaptable, we looked into what our client base struggled with. We found that there wasn’t a dedicated machine for sand crushing that was mobile enough. That’s why we took great pride in designing the REVO. A machine designed to crush all kinds of materials whilst being able to travel thanks to its treads. We made sure that there was a controllable reduction as well as being reversible for durability.” The impact of dust and microparticles on a human can cause irreparable longterm damage. Long-term exposure to silica dust and fine particles can cause serious health risks. Hence why dust control should be built into responsible site operations. The REVO 1200T is available with a dust suppression package, including bars, manifold, water pump and filter upgrade, helping control airborne dust around crushing applications. For operators focused compliance, site safety and long-term performance, the REVO 1200T offers a practical crushing solution built for modern quarrying and recycling demands. The REVO 1200T was not developed simply to add another crusher to the market. It was built, designed and manufactured at Screenpod because we recognized a gap. Operators needed a mobile, adaptable tertiary crushing solution. From the first design discussions through to final testing in our yard, the customer experience has shaped every part of the machine. Every REVO leaving Screenpod is rigorously tested before it leaves our yard. That hands-on approach is what makes the REVO uniquely Screenpod: practical engineering. Built from real customer challenges, backed by innovation, experience and pride in what we manufacture. The REVO 1200T has been developed to help operators do more with confidence and to show that Screenpod is ready to take on the tasks others may overlook. SP

Kleeman Fleet Supports Highway 17A Improvement KLEEMAN
Revitalization of an indigenous community in Ontario is made possible with advanced Kleemann crushing and screening technology.
Within the context of an ongoing infrastructure project, the Garden River First Nation Indigenous community is supplying graded aggregates for the rehabilitation of a 16-kilometer section of Highway 17A. This runs through the reserve and also serves as a bypass for the national Trans-Canada Highway. In order to fulfill requirements with regard to tonnage and grain quality, the community invested in a fleet of Kleemann equipment comprising a MOBICAT MC 110 EVO2 jaw crusher, two MOBICONE MCO 90 EVO2 cone crushers, two MOBISCREEN MSC 953 EVO screening plants and a MOBIBELT stacker. Depending on the final product specifications, the machines worked in combination as primary, secondary or tertiary crushing and screening plants.
Aggregate production creates new jobs Indigenous communities in Canada are vital to the fabric of the nation, preserving Indigenous culture, language, and family ties. In some communities, population is shrinking as many band members move to larger centers with more educational opportunities, jobs, and housing. The Garden River 14 reserve region, located around 700 km northwest of Toronto, is known as the Garden River First Nation and has a population of 3,500 band members, just over 1,000 of whom live within the reserve. Of those, 200 are employed by the community itself, 13 of whom are currently employed in the materials processing operation. The aggregates produced are essential for infrastructure construction,
and the newly acquired Kleemann plants contribute to the generation of higher revenue and more jobs.
An Investment in the Future The renewal of the road pavement began in late 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2028. The project requires close to 100,000 tons of aggregate for the base layer, 170,000 tons for the sub-base and 100,000 tons of asphalt dust and Superpave. The latter is a recently developed, performance-based system for the production of asphalt mixes and selection of suitable road surfacing binders. It is designed to ensure that the paved surface can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations and heavy traffic without any problems. “When we became aware that the bypass was going to undergo resurfacing and we were to be partnered into that project, we realized that our old crusher was too outdated and wasn’t capable of producing some of the products like the Superpave,” recalls Chris Morettin, Business Entities Manager for Garden River First Nation. “We needed to replace that model with something brand new that had the capabilities to meet Ontario Ministry of Transportation requirements.” Morettin and Aggregate Supervisor Travis Belleau decided to invest in a Kleemann plant train. “We conducted a financial analysis based on revenues that were going to be generated, and we were able to see that purchasing this equipment Continued on page 29

That’s why we typically see a lot of jaw and cone crushers in operation in this region. They’re just more cost effective,” explains Richard Perzan, Vice President Sales, Construction and Forestry (Central) at Brandt, the local authorized Wirtgen Group dealer in Canada.
Intuitive, Safer and Versatile Aside from the low fuel consumption, Belleau was also particularly impressed by the intuitive operating concept. “I haven’t been crushing very long. I found it fairly easy to learn.” And adds, “I think that speaks volumes.” “What I like most is the touch screen, which has tons of information on it. Fast-forward a decade, and the brand returned to the same show not just to celebrate its tenth anniversary, but to mark its transformation into one of the most dynamic forces in the compact crushing and screening sector. For Barry O’Hare, EvoQuip Business Line Director, the moment carries a sense of full-circle satisfaction. “In 2016, we were here with a Bison 120, our very first machine,” he recalls. “Now, 10 years on, that same machine is one of the smallest in our range.” The comment neatly captures the speed and scale of EvoQuip’s growth - from a single, compact crusher to a global product line spanning multiple categories, applications and markets. works, particularly in North America, where brand recognition helped EvoQuip establish itself quickly. However, the strategy has evolved elsewhere. “Outside North America, we realized we were better served by building our own independent distribution,” O’Hare explains. In these regions, EvoQuip has focused on building a strong network of dedicated distribution partners aligned with the compact equipment market. This shift has enabled the brand to tailor its approach more directly to the compact segment, aligning with distributors who already serve customers in adjacent markets such as construction equipment, mini-excavators, and compact machinery. “The synergies are strong,” O’Hare notes. “If a distributor is selling Kubota or Bobcat, the same customer base is often feeding material into an EvoQuip machine.”

In Latin America, the brand has established a dedicated business development presence and is actively building distribution networks in countries including Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, and Chile. “People often associate Latin America with big mining equipment,” O’Hare says. “But there’s a massive market for compact equipment as well—especially in smaller quarries and recycling.” Southeast Asia offers a different opportunity. Here, the shift from static to mobile crushing is the key driver. assets, even when machines are out on hire. Further developments are underway through Terex’s INNEX digital platform, which provides additional tools for distributors - including potential features like visual parts identification. One emerging capability allows users to photograph a component and automatically identify it, linking directly to parts ordering systems. “It speeds everything up,” O’Hare explains. “Customers can order parts directly if they want, or distributors can manage it for them.”
As the product range has expanded, so too has EvoQuip’s digital capability. Telematics, delivered through the Terex T-Link system, is now standard across EvoQuip crushers and screens. Space constraints limit the feasibility of large battery systems or alternative power sources, while customers still demand versatility and mobility. “Contractors need machines that can run anywhere,” Armstrong explains. “Fully electric isn’t always practical.” As a result, EvoQuip continues to monitor developments in electrification, batteries, and even hydrogen, but remains cautious about adopting solutions that do not yet deliver real-world value.

EvoQuip focuses on empowering its distribution network through training, technical support, and resources. “We train service teams across three levels,” O’Hare explains. “The highest level is an accredited trainer, who can then train others within their region.” This approach ensures fast, localized support - a critical factor when machine downtime directly impacts customer revenue. “If a crusher goes down, production stops,” Armstrong says. “So having capable distributors on the ground is essential.”

try, but EvoQuip’s approach is grounded in practical realities. A significant proportion of its machines - around 45% - are used in recycling applications, including concrete and asphalt processing. This fundamental use case supports sustainability by reducing the need to transport waste materials and enabling on-site reuse. “The real benefit is doing the job on site,” says O’Hare. “You’re not trucking material back and forth - you’re recycling it right there.” On the technology side, EvoQuip offers dual-power (diesel and electric) configurations across roughly half its product range. However, Armstrong is pragmatic about the limitations of current “green” solutions. “There’s a lot of talk about electric machines,” he says. “But many are still running

types of customers to enter the market,” says O’Hare. Examples include agricultural contractors or small civil operators who previously had no involvement in crushing. With a small, affordable machine, they can begin processing materials during off-seasons, generating new revenue streams. Over time, many scale up, adding more machines and capabilities. “In five years, they’ve gone from a farmer with a small crusher to a full crushing and screening contractor,” O’Hare explains. This “entry-point strategy” has been particularly successful in markets like Ireland, the UK, and the United States - and is expected to replicate globally.
Listening and Evolving Customer feedback plays a critical role in EvoQuip’s ongoing development. The brand hosts regular global forums - alternating between North America and the rest of the world - to gather insights from distributors and end-users. expansion, people, and distribution. Adding new machines like the Boa 950 cone, refreshing existing models, and expanding into “white space” markets will all play a role. Equally important is maintaining the culture that has defined the brand so far. “There’s a real energy around EvoQuip,” O’Hare reflects. “We’re a close-knit team, and we all believe in what we’re building.” It is that combination - entrepreneurial spirit backed by global resources - that underpins the brand’s confidence. “Ten years might sound like a long time,” O’Hare concludes. “But for us, it feels like we’re only getting started.”
While EvoQuip operates as a young, agile brand, it benefits from Terex’s scale and heritage. “It’s been huge,” O’Hare says. “We’re 10 years old, but we can tap into 50 or 60 years of engineering experience, parts support, and infrastructure.” The Terex name also opens doors in new markets, providing reassurance to EvoQuip ‘second family’ customers and distributors fundraising drive raising cystic fibrosis awareness alike. ful difference. Cahir O’Hagan lived with cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system, leading to severe breathing difficulties and frequent hospitalization. Despite his resilience, Cahir’s health deteriorated rapidly, and he sadly passed away in October 2023 at just 25 years old. He had been due to marry the following June, making the loss even more poignant for family and friends. In the final stages of his life, Cahir was living with just 18% lung capacity and relied on oxygen support around the clock. Like many living with severe illness, he held onto hope - particularly the possibility of a life-saving double lung transplant. Tragically, his condition worsened too quickly, and he passed away surrounded by loved ones. The fundraising effort at EvoQuip began organically in March 2024, when senior team members, including Business Line Director Barry O’Hare and Marketing Manager Gemma McKelvey, ap-
proached Paul to suggest raising funds in Cahir’s memory. Their initiative deeply moved him, reinforcing the sense of camaraderie within the team. “Nobody asked EvoQuip to do this - they wanted to,” Paul reflected, describing the gesture as something he would remain forever grateful for. The campaign is centered around EvoQuip’s 10-year anniversary, with the slogan: “Celebrate 10 years of EvoQuip and help us fundraise for the 10%.” This refers to the estimated 10% of people with cystic fibrosis who do not benefit from modulator therapies—treatments that have significantly improved quality of life for many patients. Cahir was among this group, highlighting the urgent need for further research and support. Fundraising activities took place at Hillhead 2026 and included participation from staff, customers, and distributors. One standout initiative was a “Terex challenge,” in which participants tested their strength on a punching machine, competed for prizes, and contributed to an important cause. Paul himself added a personal touch by of-

fering up one of his annual leave days as a prize, demonstrating his commitment to the effort. Through this campaign, EvoQuip has shown how a workplace can come together like a second family - supporting one another while raising awareness and funds for a vital cause. Ten years on from launching a single machine at Hillhead, EvoQuip’s success can be measured in far more than machines sold or markets entered. It is reflected in the loyalty of its distribution network, the success of its customers, and the culture of a team that continues to combine agility, ambition and a willingness to listen. Those qualities have helped transform EvoQuip from a start-up brand into a global player in compact crushing and screening. As the brand looks towards its goal of becoming number one by 2030, the formula remains unchanged: practical products, strong relationships, and a passionate team committed to creating bigger opportunities through compact equipment. New Digital Solutions From Metso Metso launches three new digital solutions to help mining customers optimize production, improve operational outcomes and enhance safety. Metso expands its Metso Digital portfolio with the launch of three new solutions, designed to help mining operations optimize their performance. The new digital solutions, Metso Digital Production Management, Metso Data-driven Performance Analytics, and Metso Safety Performance Platform, help customers turn operational data into business results. “Mining companies are under constant pressure to increase production, improve safety and get more value from existing operations. Our new digital solutions help customers identify issues earlier, understand what is happening in their process and act faster in an optimized manner. Whether the goal is to increase throughput and recovery or strengthen operational safety, we help customers turn operational data into practical improvements that
deliver measurable results,” says Arttu-Matti Matinlauri, Vice President, Minerals Digital at Metso.
Turning operational data into concrete results Mining operations generate more data than ever before, yet many teams still struggle to use it effectively in their day-to-day decisionmaking. Metso’s new digital solutions leverage AI and advanced analytics to help customers optimize production decisions with intelligent recommendations, uncover improvement opportunities hidden in operational data, and transform safety observations into proactive action. Metso Digital Production Management helps operations respond faster to changing ore characteristics, process conditions and operational constraints. The
solution rapidly generates accurate production plans based on site-specific targets and constraints, reducing the need for hours of scenario simulations to be able to identify optimal operating settings. By combining planning data, operational information and simulation models, it automatically evaluates alternative production scenarios and recommends optimized actions that support objectives such as higher throughput, improved recovery, increased reliability or balanced production and maintenance priorities. Metso Data-driven Performance Analytics is a continuous, Metso expertled service that evaluates how equipment is used in operation and how effectively they perform as part of a specific process. Service provides daily asset and process performance monitoring, identifies performance gaps and bottlenecks, and prioritizes and communicates continuous improvement actions for sustained operational results. This enables higher throughput, improved recovery and a more consistent operational performance. The service is

Superior Idlers Now Standard With Titanium Bearing Seal Previously available as a premium option, the patented seal is designed to protect bearings from contamination and extend idler life by at least 25% compared with other commonly used rolls. Superior introduced the Titanium Seal in 2020 following years of testing and field trials. Since then, thousands of idlers equipped with the seal have been put to work in aggregate, mining and other bulk material handling applications where they are regularly exposed to washdowns, slurry, dust and abrasive material. Strong performance in those realworld conditions gave Superior the confidence to make the Titanium Seal standard across its idler offering, with the exception of CEMA B rolls. “Conveyor roll failures almost always come down to a failed bearing, and the
bearing seal is its only line of defense against moisture and dust,” says Paul D. Schmidgall, Superior’s chief engineer of conveyor components. “That’s why we made the seal our primary focus in 2014 and spent years testing, tweaking and working through dozens of designs to keep contamination away from the bearing.” The Titanium Seal uses a series of moisture and dust barriers that create a longer, more difficult path between contaminants and the bearing. Superior engineers evaluated the design through controlled testing that accelerates exposure to water, slurry and dust particles, then followed its performance in real-world applications. Together, those results show idlers equipped with the Titanium Seal lasting at least 25% longer than other idlers tested.
Superior says field performance also influenced the decision to make the seal standard. At Rogers Group’s Gallatin Quarry in Tennessee, Titanium Seals held up in a wash plant where idlers are regularly drenched with water. After seeing their performance in that demanding area, the operation expanded their use throughout the plant. Capital Sand in Missouri had previously found noisy rolls with failing bearings during nearly every conveyor inspection. After switching to Superior idlers equipped with Titanium Seals, the plant manager reported that the replacement idlers remained in service more than a year later. At a Vulcan Materials operation in Tennessee running six days a week and

processing up to three million tons annually, idlers equipped with Titanium Seals showed no signs of slowing down after a year. According to the plant manager, the operation had not replaced a single one, reducing shutdowns and their associated costs. Heidelberg Materials experienced similar results in

a wet, gritty area of one of its Illinois operations where rolls had been failing quickly. As failed idlers were replaced with idlers equipped with Titanium Seals, the operation began getting significantly more roll life and spending less time changing them. A failed idler creates costs beyond the replacement roll,
including maintenance labor, conveyor downtime and potential belt damage if the roll locks up. By improving the barrier around the bearing, the Titanium Seal is designed to help idlers remain in service longer and reduce the frequency of those replacements. SP Source: Superior Industries

Volvo Trucks Introduces All-New Volvo VNX
Volvo Trucks has officially unveiled the all-new Volvo VNX, a vocational and heavy-haul truck engineered from the ground up for North America’s most demanding work across construction, concrete, logging, agriculture, heavy-haul highway, and municipal plow. Revealed in a live digital event, the all-new Volvo VNX is the third all-new truck Volvo has introduced in North America in less than three years, following the Volvo VNL in 2024 and the Volvo VNR in 2025, and the first of the three built for work on and off the pavement. “This is Volvo like you’ve never seen before. The all-new Volvo VNX is the toughest, safest, most connected and most powerful vocational truck we have
ever built. Designed specifically for North America and for the most demanding jobs, it marks a major step forward for Volvo Trucks in the vocational segment,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. The all-new Volvo VNX completes the renewal of Volvo’s North American lineup that began with the all-new Volvo VNL in January 2024 and continued with the all-new Volvo VNR in March 2025. The three trucks share a common platform, the result of Volvo’s $3 billion investment in product development and manufacturing. Three all-new truck introductions in three years marks one of the most significant product transformations in Volvo Trucks’ history. Sales for the all-new

Safety built for the jobsite Vocational jobsites put drivers close to on-site workers, equipment and unpredictable conditions. The all-new Volvo VNX is built to meet that head on with Volvo’s advanced safety systems. It carries forward the same industry-leading safety platform introduced on the Volvo VNL and Volvo VNR, built around Volvo’s vision of zero accidents. Durability you can count on Under the hood, the allnew Volvo VNX runs on the proven D13 platform, now rated up to 540 horsepower and 1,950 pound-feet of torque, with an engine brake delivering up to 630 braking horsepower. The engine is certified to EPA 2027 emissions standards in all 50 states, meeting the strictest emissions requirements. The interior is designed for the wear and tear of jobsites where operators are frequently in and out of the cab all day, with easy-to-clean surfaces that hold up to dirt, dust, and off-road operations.
Connected beyond the cab The all-new Volvo VNX is Volvo’s most connected vocational truck yet, delivering confidence that extends well beyond the cab. Every Volvo VNX comes with a factory-installed 4G telematics gateway, powering Remote Diagnostics that monitor the truck 24/7 and
flag potential issues before they put a truck out of service. Remote Programming delivers software and parameter updates over-the-air so trucks stay on the job instead of sitting in the shop. And through Volvo Connect, fleet managers get real-time reports on fuel efficiency, location and safety, giving everyone in the business the data they need to keep operations moving forward.

A TRU C KE R’S TALE
A Fine Sight
One of the least desirable functions of being a terminal manager, or dispatcher, is the disciplinary role, including the ever unpopular “reprimand.” Most drivers are aware, unless they are missing “those last two pallets,” of the reason(s) for their counseling sessions, and truthfully, most ass-chewings go pretty well. Those sessions that do not go well are the most memorable. As his terminal manager, I brought a driver into the office to learn of the reasons why he had been very rude to our largest shipper. Several other drivers had observed the verbal altercation, and all had reported that the driver had been out-of-line. The driver’s attitude was that the shipper was an asshole, and therefore, it was the driver’s right to ‘get in his face.’ The evidence of his inexcusable behavior was very clear, so I informed the driver that he was being given three days off without pay, and if this behavior happened again, we would have to let him go. The driver jumped out of his chair, stood up, and shouted, “I ought to just whip your god damned ass and get it over with!” Now, this big, strapping young fellow could have wiped the floor with my ass, seeing that he had me by about five inches and over 100 pounds, so I replied, “Well, you can probably whip my ass, but when I finally get up, I will still have a job. You, on the other hand, will be in jail,
and you will have no job.” He pondered this statement for a few seconds, then said, “Hell, you ain’t worth it!” and he made his point by slamming the office door on his way out. He actually took more than those three days off, because, thankfully, he found a job driving for another carrier. I’m fairly certain he didn’t start working for a first-class, upstanding trucking company with strict hiring guidelines, since we didn’t even get a past employer request from the company. Part of his bad attitude may have had something to do with his tall, gorgeous, built like a brick out-house, slutty wife. Several weeks before this driver’s counseling session, his wife had come to the office one summer Friday to pick up his paycheck. This ‘fine sight’ sat in the chair beside my desk, and I was compelled to observe her loosefitting (hell, damned-near falling off) halter top, and her marvelously loose-fitting short shorts. I will also gladly tell you she did not believe in panties. If I was a betting man, I would wager all I have that she knew what she had, and that she knew how to use it. I have always been proud of my restraint (yeah, right) by not succumbing to the unspoken, yet clearly implied,
offer by this fine, red-necked hussy, but as you can tell, the memory still lingers, and it is also still quite vivid. Don’t all we truckers just love hot weather? During my time as terminal manager at another trucking terminal, our largest steel shipper told me that one of our dispatchers was not very effective, and that the man would not accept any dispatch responsibility when I was away from the office. When I counseled the dispatcher, I reminded him that he was “in charge” of dispatch responsibilities when I was out of the office. I was more than surprised when he said, “I wasn’t aware of that!” He had evidently forgotten that he had been performing these duties for the past year that I had been there, and for at least a year before I arrived. I just chalked it up to his way of getting me off his ass. Upon returning to the office one afternoon, instead of walking in through the front door after parking in the front of the building, I dropped my company car off at the mechanic’s bay, and then I walked through the warehouse and entered the driver’s lounge. Several drivers were awaiting their dispatches, and I bantered with them some and listened to a few of their jokes. I then went through a door leading to the office hallway. This hallway allowed a person to walk four or five steps before they could be seen by an office person. As I closed the door and stepped into the hallway, I heard the dispatcher say, “No, baby. I can’t help you because

He said WHAT now? that ain’t my de-PART-ment! Okay, I will have the terminal manager call you.” I thought to myself, “Oh Lord, please don’t let this have been a conversation with our biggest customer!” Walking-on into the office, I learned that it had indeed been our biggest shipper, so I placed the call and had my ass chewed-out again. When Slick Nick arrived for his shift, I asked the dispatcher to follow me out onto the yard so we could talk in private. I began by telling him how disappointed I was by his actions, and that it was totally unacceptable to refer to someone from the shipper’s office (especially a man) as “Baby.” He got this terribly offended look on his face and asked, “What chu you coming down on me fuh?” I let him know I was coming down on him fuh because the shipper wanted me to find someone else to work with them, if I couldn’t get him
to do the job correctly. I said many other things, but I ended it with, “This is the company’s largest terminal, and we are moving one helluva lot of freight. I like looking good as we do this job. When I am away from the office, if you don’t look good, then I don’t look good. And let me tell you, I do like looking good!” With that, he hunkered-down his shoulders, cocked his head and looked up at me and declared, “I see where you’re coming from! I’m gonna make us all look good!” How do you think he did? He acted like a true dispatching professional, and it made me feel great that our discipline session had provided positive results. I was starting to feel very comfortable with my managerial acumen. Unfortunately, his professionalism only lasted for about a month. He then got so ornery and belligerent that I ended up firing him. After I informed him of his termination, he told me
the only reason that I had fired him was because he was black and that I did not want a black man in a dispatch position. I replied that his being black had nothing to do with it, and that I would have fired one of my brothers if they had been as damned sorry a dispatcher as he had been. Our predominantly African American driver workforce, including Big Daddy, (who I wrote about earlier) didn’t agree with the dispatcher’s comments. Truthfully, most of the drivers told me that the man should have been fired a lot sooner. PARTS & COMP ONENTS
Beyond Location: Telematics & The Connected Supply Chain Until recently, telematics was all about tracking vehicles on the road. Inside the supply chain, forklifts, production machinery and storage containers usually went untracked, and any data that did exist sat in disparate systems. There is now greater scope for a far more comprehensive solution that is not restricted by type of asset, which has the potential to eliminate operational blind spots and deliver real performance benefits.
Enhancing The Supply Chain With Real-Time Data Supply chains typically protect themselves from uncertainty using three expensive safeguards: added time, additional inventory and spare capacity. Tracking creates an opportunity to measure that uncertainty and decide which precautions are genuinely necessary. The immediate use of realtime tracking is operational – respond to a delay, locate an asset or investigate an abnormal condition – but the deeper value appears when data is accumulated across thousands of journeys and asset cycles. This is where the real efficiency gains and performance benefits can be targeted. Businesses can examine the distribution of transit times rather than relying on averages; identify recurring dwell points; compare the reliability of routes and partners; and understand where equipment consistently becomes unproductive. The added insight can influence much larger decisions. Asset pools can be resized or repositioned according to actual cycle times. Maintenance can reflect actual usage and operating conditions. Inventory policies can account for the reliability and condition of goods in transit, rather than treating everything between dispatch and receipt as equally uncertain. However, businesses should not remove resilience simply because a platform appears to offer real-time visibility. If the underlying data is incomplete or unreliable, reducing inventory or capacity buffers can make the operation more fragile. The biggest opportunity is selec-
tive leanness: removing the slack created by poor information while preserving the capacity needed for genuine disruption. Ultimately, the most valuable consequence of tracking is not location. It is confidence about how tightly a supply chain can safely be run.
Improving Visibility The warehouse has often proved difficult for a telematics marketplace used to deploying wired tracking units to high-value commercial vehicles. Cost has represented a major barrier for an environment that uses large volumes of equipment, often without a suitable power source. Battery capacity has traditionally failed to keep pace with telematics innovation, often creating a trade-off with functionality, while connectivity has proved unreliable in indoor conditions surrounded by thick concrete and metal racking. Lower-cost tracking devices are making it more practical to monitor a much wider range of equipment, while better connectivity and longer-lasting batteries are enabling more advanced asset management. As a result, data can be brought together in a single system, regardless of whether it is from an HGV, forklift, container, trailer, roll cage or even an individual pallet. Together, these developments give logistics operations a complete view, from the production and warehouse floors to the customer’s doorstep. However, end-to-end visibility should not mean tracking every asset continuously. This is neither necessary nor economically viable. A more sensible definition is continuity of identity, state and custody. An HGV may be fully visible, yet its cargo remains invisible, because the system does not know which trailer is attached, what shipments are inside it or whether responsibility has passed to a warehouse or another carrier. The next step is association rather than simply more tracking. A system needs to understand the changing re-
lationships between vehicle, trailer, cargo, sensor and location. For example, proximity data can associate a cargo sensor with a particular trailer; the trailer tracker can provide its wider location; and a warehouse gateway can detect when that cargo enters the facility. The insight comes from combining those events into one continuing record. This exposes a limitation that technology alone cannot solve. Supply chains span different operations, platforms and data-ownership boundaries. A device may capture the right information, but visibility still breaks if identities cannot be matched or the next party cannot receive vital information. Therefore, a system should be able to communicate a level of doubt. If an asset has stopped reporting, the platform should show its last reliable status, rather than presenting an old coordinate as current reality. Meaningful end-to-end visibility needs to answer five key questions: what is the asset, what is it currently associated with, what condition is it in, who is responsible for it, and what should happen next?
warehouse. Although satellite tracking has existed for some time, standards-based IoT-NTN is starting to make it part of the broader mobile ecosystem. Instead of treating remote coverage as a completely separate deployment, future devices can move more naturally between terrestrial and satellite communication. Meanwhile, the boundary between location and context is rapidly blurring as AI features become standard in video telematics. The next area of innovation will not be around how many behaviours a camera claims to detect, but how accurately it can distinguish a genuine risk from the noise. In fact, advances in edge processing will allow a device to be trained to identify almost any type of event, so we will see cameras increasingly used

across the supply chain for a range of safety, security, load handling and even proof of delivery applications. Finally, trackers are increasingly acting as gateways for nearby BLE sensors and accessories. This creates a more economical way to add temperature, door, cargo or equipment data without giving every object its own widearea connection. Again, edge processing, where custom rules are loaded onto the unit rather than the software platform, will allow a device to function faster, become more responsive and operate with greater intelligence, with or without cellular connectivity. Configurability will be key for supply chain operations looking to adapt the technology to precise needs. The next generation of
telematics will not depend on one increasingly powerful device. It will rely on a mix of tools, such as low-power trackers, sensors, cameras, satellite links, site routers and cloud platforms, working together. As these technologies converge, visibility is at last reaching beyond the warehouse door, and separate systems are merging into one integrated solution. However, the next benchmark for telematics will not simply be the number of assets shown on a map. It will be the proportion of operational exceptions that can be identified and resolved without someone manually chasing the information. Removing The Technological Barriers Several long-standing barriers are now falling away, making telematics a compelling option. The first is the trade-off between low power and responsiveness. Battery-operated trackers have traditionally had to choose between frequent communication and long operating life. However, newer powermanagement approaches are allowing devices to remain largely dormant while still being reachable within a useful window, making on-demand tracking more practical for unpowered and intermittently used assets. Connectivity is also evolving, with devices able to draw on satellite, Wi-Fi and mobile IoT technologies to maintain continuity and deliver advanced features whether an asset is on the road, in the yard or deep inside a
