55 Years, Eh? Supply Post celebrates 55 years of service to the resources industries of Canada.

The Supply Post, Vol. 1, No. 1

Where to start? Perhaps at the beginning.

1971 was an interesting time. Resource industries in BC and Western Canada were starting to pick up steam. Forestry and sawmilling in BC was exploding. Mining was increasing across BC’s interior and the north as well as other regions of Canada.

Transportation infrastructure was starting to take shape through bridges, highways and more. Construction and aggregate equipment needs were increasing, almost by the week.

My grandfather, T.R.C (Ken) Kenward, was 49 years old, raising a family in Vancouver. Life was hard, but they were making their way. He had this idea for a Canadian marketplace for mining, construction and forestry equipment; a grand idea for a printed publication where equipment dealers could all list their equipment in one central place, which could be sent out to equipment buyers across Canada. There were several iterations prior to 1971, all of which were not quite right.

Along came the idea for The Supply Post. The ‘The’ part of the name has long been debated as neither grammatically nor functionally correct to say, but we’ll leave that debate for another occasion.

He would go off for days at a time through to Kamloops, Penticton, Vernon and beyond; a briefcase in one hand, and – speaking of great Canadian brands - a glass of Crown Royal in the other. He’d come back from

these trips with solidified relationships with advertisers from across the province who bought into – and trusted – his vision.

The earliest editions of the paper were black and white, printed in Vancouver on locally made paper, and often funded with dollars that were fronted by advertisers – some of whom remain in our pages and online to this day.

AEM Unveils Comprehensive Study On Agriculture, Construction And Utility Water Utilization

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers recently released a groundbreaking new study examining how technological advancements across the agriculture, construction, and utility industries are enabling organizations to achieve significantly greater output while using substantially less water.

The report, titled “From Source to Solution: Advancing Water Stewardship in the Non-Road Sector,” showcases world-class water stewardship taking place across North America and highlights how equipment manufacturers are helping to save trillions of gallons of water annually through modern practices and technologies. “This study demonstrates that North American equipment manufacturers are doing more than just supplying innovative and cutting-edge equipment – they are enabling some of the most advanced water stewardship practices in the world,” said Curt Blades, AEM Senior Vice President of Agriculture Services & Forestry. “It also serves as a valuable resource for AEM, our

members, and our industry peers, as we seek to develop a cohesive and comprehensive message around water management for our industry.”

Produced in collaboration with AEM member company and global management consulting firm Kearney, the study reveals several key findings, including: • Modern irrigation practices are saving the U.S. 9.7 trillion gallons of water annually.

• Innovations in concrete production have reduced freshwater needs by up to 20% during new production.

• Field-scale conservation practices are producing measurable improvements in water quality across multiple U.S. watersheds.

• Modern utility efficiencies are saving the U.S. and Canada nearly 4 trillion gallons of water annually, avoiding withdrawals that would otherwise be needed to support today’s population.

• North American industrial water use has become increasingly efficient over the past two decades, generating more economic value per unit of water.

“Now that the study has been released, AEM and our members are excited to see it used to help our industry grow in its understanding of the current water landscape and support improved water

Genie has rigorously assessed other systems on the market to develop a simpler solution that delivers the least disruption to operator productivity. The anchor point is located to the right of the control box where it takes up no additional space in the platform, and the device is compatible with most carabiner clips. “Keeping the system simple, cost-effective, and easy-to-install was critical for reducing barriers to the adoption of this important reminder to utilize your fall protection harness,” said Damm.

Simple installation and widely compatible Lanyard Alert and Lanyard Alert Advanced can both be installed in less than 15 minutes and no calibration is required. An IP67-rated single enclosure ensures the systems will stand up to the harshest weather conditions.

To help keep maintenance costs low, sensors can be individually swapped out rather than requiring a full board replacement, if needed.

Gomaco Introduces Revolutionary GP348 Paver The new Gomaco GP348 is an up to 36 feet (11 m) wide placer/spreader and up to a 30 feet (9.1 m) wide slipform paver.

Gomaco is building on the success of the GP360 and GP460, the industry’s first combination concrete slipform pavers and placer/ spreaders on two tracks.

This year at CONEXPOCON/AGG 2026, Gomaco will introduce the GP348 four-track for enhanced jobsite and job-to-job mobility.

As a placer/spreader with a 48 inch (1219 mm) belt, the GP348 will place at widths up to 36 feet (11 m) wide. As a concrete slipform paver, the GP348 will pave widths up to 30 feet (9.1 m) wide.

It’s built on the framework of the Gomaco fourtrack GP3 slipform paver with the ability to convert the prime mover into a concrete placer/spreader. The prime mover is equipped with vibrator circuits for paving and auger drive circuits for placing. Controlling the new technology is made possible with

the Gomaco-exclusive G+ digital control system. G+ seamlessly handles the controls conversion needed for each application while also bringing on board Machineto-Machine (M2M) communication, sonic sensors, 3D machine guidance, and more. Rotary-sensored slew drives on its leg pivots work seamlessly with the G+ control system. Operators can automate transitions from transport to paving mode, dramatically reducing setup time and improving efficiency. Its four-track design enhances stability and onsite maneuverability, while its compact transport footprint allows it the capability to be hauled on a single semi-tractor trailer (either as a placer or paver), minimizing downtime between pours.

engine, which efficiently drives the conveyor belt and distributes concrete across the grade. The high-volume, 48 inch (1219 mm) conveyor belt can be mounted on either the left or right side, depending on job-site conditions and the location of the haul road. It has a discharge speed of up to 491.5 feet per minute (150 mpm) for fast and efficient concrete placement. A controllable material deflector directs the flow of concrete at the discharge end of the conveyor for placement accuracy. A dual-drive auger system moves the material to the center or outer areas and across the strike-off.

The GP348 is available with an optional sonic sensor system to monitor the concrete depth as it is placed.

Information from the sonic sensors is utilized by the G+ control system on the paver using M2M communication

to provide an optimum and consistent head of concrete in front of the paver.

The GP348 placer/ spreader slipform paver will make its world debut at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 3-7, in booth C30282 of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall. Vermeer is expanding its microtrenching equipment solutions to address the accelerating demand for fiber infrastructure in urban environments. Building on the success of the recently launched MTR516 microtrencher attachment, Vermeer offers integrated cutting attachments and support equipment that deliver what contractors need for productive microtrenching operations.

“Microtrenching isn’t just about cutting a trench. Advanced cutting performance on utility tractor platforms The MTR516 microtrencher attachment delivers cutting performance with trenches up to 17 in (43.2 cm) deep and a shrouded housing that contains debris and optimizes vacuum suction. The attachment’s compatibility with Vermeer RTX550 and RTX750 ride-on tractors provides contractors with proven platform reliability for urban jobsites.

Both utility tractors are engineered for stability and precision, critical factors when working near existing infrastructure and in con-

gested areas. The Vermeer RTX550 and RTX750 utility tractors provide the power and maneuverability needed for urban fiber installation work while maintaining the compact footprint necessary for city streets. A larger microtrenching attachment is also in development for the near future.

Featuring single-man operation with simplified controls and accommodating 4 in to 18 in (10.2 cm to 45.7 cm) bits, the Vermeer core saw attachment helps contractors work safely around existing infrastructure while maintaining the precision necessary for fiber installation.

For backfill operations, the new Vermeer concrete reinstatement attachment prepares mortar, grout or concrete for trench reinstatement.

The attachment features an adjustable trench filler that minimizes the amount of slurry spilled outside the trench and includes a hydraulic gate for controllability of flow.

Proper backfill is essential for long-term pavement integrity and supports contractors in meeting municipal requirements for surface restoration.

HTEC Opens First Commercial-Scale Clean Hydrogen Electrolyzer In BC HTEC

HTEC has officially opened the Burnaby Clean Hydrogen Production Facility, including the first commercial-scale clean hydrogen electrolyzer in BC.

This milestone marks a significant step in the Province’s transition to a lowcarbon economy and anchors HTEC’s expanding hydrogen hub in Metro Vancouver.

Strategically located in Burnaby, the facility delivers a consistent, locally produced supply of clean hydrogen to fuel HTEC’s expanding sta-

tion network and support fleet customers. The facility combines hydrogen production via electrolysis with a fully operational liquid hydrogen gasification system to ensure supply redundancy.

The combined output of this facility is 1.8 tonnes of clean hydrogen per day.

“Grounded in longstand-

ing partnership with PacifiCan, HTEC is driving the transition to a low-carbon future,” stated The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister Responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada. “This new facility supports good jobs and a stronger Canadian economy – for generations to come.”

Hydrogen from the onetonne-per-day electrolyzer could reduce transportationrelated emissions by more than 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. Powered by BC Hydro’s primarily renewable hydroelectric grid, the hydrogen has a carbon intensity of less than 18 gCO₂/ MJ — representing about a 90% reduction in emissions when used in fuel cell electric vehicles compared to gasoline or diesel. The facility will also support industrial customers seeking to decarbonize operations or incorporate hydrogen into low-carbon energy solutions.

“The launch of HTEC’s hydrogen fuel technology in Burnaby confirms B.C.’s role as Canada’s hydrogen hub,” said The Honourable David Eby, Premier of British

Columbia. “Replacing diesel with clean fuels like hydrogen is a win-win—it helps reduce harmful transportation pollution, while creating new jobs and opportunities.

But despite the crew’s enthusiasm, despite the innovations and the cost savings, John knows the battle is far from over.

So, having set aggressive productivity goals, the Harrison crew went out this year and beat all forecasts.

“The attitude of the crew is what has make the difference,” he adds. “They’re easy to motivate, and they don’t need a lot of supervision.”

Still, timber supply is a long-term worry. Bert Gayle, vice-president coastal operations, says Harrison can keep logging at its current rate for a long time, if it can hang on to its existing interest area. “The Fraser Timber Supply Area is very tight for timber,” says Bert.

“Although we’ve been assured of a certain quota, I’m concerned about encroachment by the Small Business Program in particular.”

In the meantime, Harrison employees are doing what they can. Teamwork and communication have never been better. For its part, management is keeping workers fully informed on how the camp is doing and what the prospects are. And employees are coming forward with ideas on how to save money or do a better job.

“Lots of people have suggested ways to improve our profitability — good, workable ideas,” John says. “People now feel they’re a part of

Harrison this time last year was a tough one. The depletion of several old temporary timber tenures meant the annual cut of about 205,000 cubic metres could no longer be kept up. Big changes were inevitable.

So one morning last fall, John and Cecil Salmon, general manager Coast logging, met with the entire crew to discuss the problem. Cecil told the group that the company simply could not afford to continue losing money at Harrison. All options had to be considered – from downsizing to contracting out.

“We realized then that we would have to be as cost effective as any contractor,” says John. “So we started to put together a working plan, based on reducing the annual cut to 125,000 cubic metres. We had to pretend we were contract loggers — how many mechanics would we need then?

How many supervisors?”

“The hourly employees were involved in the planning too. They came to us, unasked, and said ‘We want to make the operation go.

Whatever it takes, we’re willing.’”

Several cost-cutting alternatives were kicked around, until the employees agreed on a plan that would keep Harrison in business. It was not an easy solution — five supervisors and about 60 hourly workers were laid off, many supervisory positions were combined, and other measures taken to cut costs and improve efficiency. But morale never sagged.

“No one was happy about the layoffs, but overall they took it well,” says John. “We have a very stable crew here, a lot of family units — fathers and sons, brothers — and people who have farms and

With their backs squarely against the wall, Harrison employees knuckled down and proved they can compete with anybody for cost-efficient logging.

For Harrison, the last remaining camp in Canfor’s Mainland Logging Division, 1985 was a make or break year. Facing rising costs and a rapidly declining supply of timber, the camp needed a big improvement in productivity just to stay in business.

In fact, the company has considered converting Harrison to a contractor operation, as had been done before with the Mcnab and Spring Creek camps. But the crew wanted to stay Canfor employees — and vowed to do whatever it took to make Harrison competitive.

As the 1985 logging season wraps up, the bottom line shows they were true to their word. The turnaround at Harrison has been remarkable.

Despite the disruption of a bad fire season (which shut down logging for a record 31 operating days), the camp has produced at the rate of 10.8 cubic metres per main-day well above a target that seemed ambitious at the start of the season. As well, costs were 12 percent below forecast.

To cap off an impressive performance, the crew has worked one full year without a lost-time accident, proving that a good crew can achieve both productivity and safety.

Camp superintendent John Murray warns that Harrison can’t afford to rest on its laurels yet, but adds, “I’m really proud of the crew for what they’ve done this year. They really turned it around.”

Alberta Plans Reforms For Sand And Gravel The Alberta government is acting fast on 15 recommendations delivered by the Sand and Gravel Task Force report to modernize private land sand and gravel pit regulation.

The Alberta government is acting fast on 15 recommendations delivered by the Sand and Gravel Task Force report to modernize private land sand and gravel pit regulation.

Sand and gravel operations supply the materials that build Alberta’s homes, roads and infrastructure.

Modernizing Alberta’s approach will help create jobs, protect the environment and support a fastgrowing economy.

“Sand and gravel help build the roads we drive on, the homes we live in, and the infrastructure that supports our province,” stated Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas. “It also helps create jobs and grow our economy. These recommendations will help get rid of unnecessary government bureaucracy, cre-

ate more opportunities in the sand and gravel sector and protect our strong environmental safeguards.”

Currently, there are more than 1,000 active sand and gravel pit registrations on private land across the province. For years, landowners and companies have complained about slow regulatory processes, confusing approval conditions and inconsistent timelines.

Launched in May 2025, the Sand and Gravel Task Force reviewed Alberta’s current policies and processes to find ways to shorten application timelines and reduce regulatory barriers, while maintaining environmental standards.

The final report identifies 15 recommendations to reduce delays, better support landowners and strengthen Alberta’s aggregate supply

chain. These include improving policies, streamlining processes, helping industry navigate regulatory processes and balancing economic development and environmental assurance.

“The sand and gravel sector creates important jobs and revenue for many rural communities and landowners,” commented Glenn van Dijken, task force co-chair and MLA for Athabasca-BarrheadWestlock. “I’m proud of the collaborative work that went into this report and look forward to seeing these recommendations put into action.”

“These recommendations will lead to faster project approvals and a stronger sand and gravel sector while maintaining our province’s high environmental standards,” said Brandon Lunty, task force co-chair and MLA for Leduc-Beaumont.

Atlas Copco Introduces Its Largest Container Energy Storage System Atlas Copco has launched its largest container energy storage system (ESS) in the prime power market – the ZBC 1000-1200 – which delivers 1MW of power output and 1.2MWh energy capacity from a single unit.

The new ZBC 1000-1200 is built using the same advanced and trusted battery technology as Atlas Copco’s existing range of ESS, to deliver a reliable source of power to keep critical jobs in operation and enable users to reduce emissions by up to 90 percent while saving on costs. It is ideal for demanding applications including construction, mining, events, ports, and emergency power.

The ZBC 1000-1200 is exceptionally easy to use, providing quick and easy connection with a power lock socket. Being ‘plug and play’ means users can save installation time as there is no need for bolting cables to busbars.

reliable, having been built with Atlas Copco’s proven technology coupled with LiFePO4 Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. For additional durability, this battery energy storage system includes an advanced thermal management HVAC system so it can provide lasting power from -20°C to +50°C, and it is suitable for use at higher altitudes plus offering extra winterization fit for tough climate challenges.

ZBC models provide users with flexibility as they can operate as a standalone solution or in hybrid mode with several sources of energy (including renewables).

For users wanting even more power or to set up the systems as a micro grid, these 1 MW container battery

packs are scalable, with up to 8 units connected in parallel, delivering up to 8MW of power.

Using a ZBC 1000-1200 on a construction or event site means that users can reduce the number of generators needed, drastically reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. By using these container ESS, users can also reduce the need for fuel management servicing and maintenance associated with generators, reducing operational costs.

Furthermore, when the ZBC is installed as a hybrid solution, working alongside generators, it can increase the lifetime and utilization of those generators. Providing versatility, the ZBC can be connected with generators from all manufacturers, with the battery energy storage system acting as a primary power source and generators as the secondary source. Multiple generators are frequently used to create a power plant within mining sites. However, these are now being replaced by one energy storage system to achieve the same power levels. The ZBC 1000-1200 energy storage system is ideal

for a microgrid solution in mines for electrical shovels, tunnel boring machines and substations.

This battery ESS is also ideal for emergency power use as it supplies power quickly in case of a grid power failure, with fast energy transfer.

“Generators typically experience a delay, but the new 1 MW battery system eliminates that risk and provides operators with peace of mind that power will be available, so they can keep their critical operations running,” explained Barbara Gregorio, Divisional Sales and Marketing Manager for Atlas Copco Portable Power and Energy solutions.

Applications which have a high initial load will also benefit from the new ZBC 1000-1200 container battery pack. For example, modern large cranes within ports require approximately 10 times higher nominal power to start. The ZBC 1000-1200 can easily handle this larger inrush current.

Nenne says that Caterpillar focused on durability when developing the new link, making durability a feature alongside convenience, speed, and safety. Extensive press-out testing has shown that the Track Clamp Master Link offers 25% higher pin retention compared to the press-fit master and up to a 50% improvement in joint life compared to the slip-fit master.

“Tool-less solutions are often seen as a temporary quickfix, but with the Track Clamp we’ve set a new standard: it may not require hydraulic tooling, it may be quick, but it’s certainly not temporary,” points out Nenne.

The Track Clamp Master Link is widely used across a variety of hydraulic excavators and covers all types of undercarriages, including General Duty, Heavy Duty and Heavy Duty XL. The new generation surface drill rig offers increased fuel efficiency and high availability. It is a welcome addition to the PowerROC family.

“We are eager to get this rig out to our customers around the world. The PowerROC T45 MKII is the perfect choice for construction sites and aggregate, cement and limestone quarries,” says Sr. Product Manager Masanori Kogushi.

The new generation PowerROC T45 is equipped with an Epiroc developed control system, which helps decrease fuel consumption. This is due to the auto engine speed control, which enables automatic optimization of the engine RPM for all operations.

“The new generation PowerROC T45 offers up to 40 % lower fuel burn compared to the previous generation”, says Masanori Kogushi.

To assist with easy operation, the PowerROC T45 MKII includes an intuitive 12 -inch display that presents all the necessary data, monitors running status and offers the operator additional assistance. Two one-touch lever controls make rod changing and drilling both simple and quick. The system is easy to learn and use.

The PowerROC T45 MKII has many similarities to the PowerROC T35 MKII, which was released last year.

Like the other rigs in the PowerROC family, the PowerROC T45 MKII features a modular and straightforward design, which keeps servicing simple.

“Compared to the PowerROC T35 MKII, the PowerROC T45 MKII surface drill rig offers a big hole range, which is something many of our customers want.

This PowerROC T45 MKII launch is therefore a natural step forward in our offering within the PowerROC family”, says Masanori Kogushi.

The PowerROC T45 MKII has been field-tested with positive results during the last couple of months.

“We have fine-tuned the rig for maximum performance and have achieved all our major targets,” says Masanori Kogushi.

The new generation PowerROC T45 comes with two different engine alternatives – Tier 3/Stage IIIA and Tier 4 Final/Stage 5.

Loblaw Companies Ltd., FortisBC Energy Inc. and partners have launched the first sustained commercial demonstration of a hydrogenpowered Class 8 truck in British Columbia. The milestone was celebrated in early November at Loblaw’s Marine Drive distribution centre with project contributors, industry stakeholders and government officials.

“We’re proud to support initiatives that bring together government, industry and innovators to show how Canada can lead in building a cleaner, more competitive economy. By cutting emissions, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth in the transportation sector and beyond, projects like this are helping build a stronger, more resilient future for our country.” said Hon. Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.

by FortisBC’s Clean Growth Innovation Fund, launched earlier this fall to demonstrate the real-world performance of zero-emission heavy-duty trucks in daily retail opera-

tions. The hydrogen pilot in B.C. marks the next step in the company’s strategy to explore lower carbon, scalable technologies that can help transform how goods move across Canada.

Freightliner Cascadia Takes Spaceplane One Step Closer to Orbit In an exciting collaboration with Sierra Space, the fifth generation Freightliner Cascadia supported high-speed runway tests for Dream Chaser, their autonomous spaceplane capable of transporting pressurized and unpressurized cargo to and from low Earth orbit.

The tests simulated critical dynamics and validated autonomous navigational parameters for Dream Chaser’s landing sequence.

Before the tow tests began, DTNA product validation engineer Nate Fleming transported Dream Chaser approximately ten miles from NASA’s Space Systems Processing Facility (SSPF) facility to the Launch and Landing Facility (LLF). Fleming is the only known driver in history to use a Class 8 tractor to haul a spacecraft on public roads.

Sierra Space referred to him as a “test pilot” — a nod to his role in testing new technologies for DTNA and his contribution to validating their own.

“There was a lot riding on this testing,” said Fleming.

“Sierra Space trusted me to haul the Dream Chaser and trusted the Freightliner Cascadia to carry it safely. When you’re testing something that’s never been done before, you need to believe in your equipment. I’ve spent years validating new technologies

A Morning on the Runway

Just after sunrise, the sky above the Kennedy Space Center glowed with soft streaks of orange and blue. A team of engineers and technicians stood ready, focused on a sleek, winged vehicle resting quietly on its custom trailer.

The vehicle is Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser spaceplane — a spacecraft engineered to launch vertically inside a rocket fairing, and once in orbit, deploy its wings, and then use its thrusters to maneuver in low Earth orbit before returning to Earth by landing on a commercial runway.

Unlike traditional aircraft, Dream Chaser does not land exclusively on wheels.

Instead, it uses tandem rear wheels and - for space and weight savings - a single, reinforced skid plate. To help validate this landing system, an unmodified Cascadia sleeper with 72-inch raised roof helped Dream Chaser

At the time, I drove a POS VW camper, which brokedown pretty often, so when WMTS offered me a good paying job at its biggest terminal, I gratefully accepted their offer and left college for the last time. I have worked in the trucking industry ever since that day and often thought I could write a book about the many folks who unknowingly gave me glimpses of their lives.

As I stated in my first Supply Post article, I sincerely hope their adventures provide you with as much fun and entertainment as I have had telling them over the years.

When reading my book, A Trucker’s Tale, someone might think “that yarn sounds a lot like me” or “that this event sounds familiar?” If you have these thoughts, and if the time period fits, and we knew each other, then maybe that tale is about you. Thank you all. By relating your stories, I have been able to retain your acquaintances and, more importantly, your friendships for many, many years.

I have attempted writing most of these stories in a respectful manner, although being respectful was not possible when writing about some of these characters. You will clearly be able to tell who they are and why I remember them so vividly.

I did not realize it at the time, but the day I met Frank became truly momentous, as

his wit has provided me with a phrase for damned-nearly every imaginable occasion. Not a single week goes by when I don’t use one of his quotes, and my poor kids—hell, all my family and friends—usually just roll-their-eyes because they have heard these quotes so many times.

Frank had been a truck driver for many years, but he was now working as WMTS’s mechanic, road service person, forklift operator, and like my granddad, Obie, he was a very capable jack-ofall-trades. What he lacked in formal education was eclipsed by his intelligent application of common sense. There were no mechanical problems he could not solve. No task was too daunting for him to tackle. He simply approached each issue, studied it, and then fixed it.

He never shied away from any job that had to be done, either. As an example, back in my college trucking days, I had fueled at the Baltimore terminal late one very cold and windy winter night, and I had driven up North about 30 miles. Just as I was passing the Maryland House Rest Area, the main radiator hose blew out, and most of the antifreeze with it. I contacted Frank and he said he would be at my location as soon as he could get there. Luckily, I had both a blanket and my military poncho liner I had used in Vietnam, so I stayed

tolerably warm in my bunk if I didn’t move-around too much.

I had to get out of the bunk when Frank arrived, because these were the days that the entire tractor cab had to be jacked up to access the motor. I was so damned cold that I sat in Frank’s pickup truck most of the time, but Frank installed a new radiator hose, and refilled it with antifreeze, even though his hands were frozen stiff. He started my tractor, left it running so it would warm-up before I headed north again, and then he got into his pickup truck.

He sat there and shivered for a long time, never saying a word about how cold it was outside. This was a very good example of “perseverance.”

Shortly after I began working in the Baltimore terminal, we had an extremely busy day, which kept us at work until after 8:00 PM. Frank and I decided to grab a beer and a pizza before heading home in opposite directions, so we rendezvoused at a country music bar, which Frank referred to as his s--tkicker hangout. Several beers loosened our conversational tongues, and we began talking about our personal lives.

When I learned he was in his second marriage, I asked him what had caused his first divorce. Frank’s reply was that he had, “contacted the seenus disease.”

“You mean a sinus disease?” I asked.

“No, I was in the backseat of my car with this ‘ol gal, and my wife SEEN US. I don’t know how she knew how to find me way off down that dirt road, and it scared the daylights out of me when she banged on the rear window. I got my pants on, stepped out

Kenworth Expands Transmission Availability For Mixers Kenworth has announced its PACCAR TX-12 PRO and TX-18 PRO automated transmissions are now available for T880 and W990 models equipped with PACCAR engines with a rear engine power take-off (REPTO).

This expansion enables customers operating in select concrete mixer applications to now specify their Kenworth Class 8 trucks with PACCAR’s vocational automated transmissions, as well as other applications requiring a REPTO.

“The addition of rear engine PTO compatibility with our PACCAR TX-12 PRO and TX-18 PRO transmissions gives customers even more flexibility when spec’ing their Kenworth T880 and W990 models,” said Kevin Haygood, Ken-

worth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “This expansion allows us to better serve vocational customers, particularly those in concrete mixer and other REPTOdriven applications, by delivering the performance,

of the car and asked her what she wanted?”

She demanded to know, “Who is that woman?”

“What woman?” Frank said.

“That woman in your car?” she shrieked.

Frank’s reply was that he did not see a woman in the backseat of his car.

Well, it wasn’t very long before Frank found himself standing in front of a courtroom at his divorce hearing.

Once again, Frank claimed there was not a woman in the backseat of his car, but the judge believed his soon-to-be ex-wife’s version that there probably was a woman back there with him. Frank left the marriage with little more than the pants he had pulled up when he exited the backseat.

I’m sure he wasn’t the only man to have come down with the “SEEN US” disease.

Each time Frank heard snow was forecast, he would issue, “I hope it snows so damned deep, that when you

s__t, you’ll have to put it in a shotgun and shoot it out the chimley!” Snow elicits many comments from us all, but we soon learned to keep the snow word out of our conversations. Otherwise, you knew what you were about to hear. I imagine I heard the s__t-andshotgun saying over 1,000 times. Other people tried to use it, and bombed, but Frank had the knack of making us chuckle every time he said it.

I was riding with Frank one day when he saw a gorgeous, well-proportioned woman crossing the street at an intersection. He shook his head several times and said, “My, my, my. That gal could put something on you that Ajax wouldn’t take off— and that Ajax is good stuff!”

Frank used this proclamation, “put something on you Ajax wouldn’t take off,” by applying it to anything which worked extremely well, such as GoJo hand cleaner, a big sledgehammer, WD40, or even a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Frank never used old, worn-out clichés; he just made-up his own. If easy-tofix problems turned complicated, or if someone changed something mid-stream, Frank might allow, “And the cheese gets more bindinger.”

When folks heard this saying for the first time, they were at first baffled, but after thinking about his words, it didn’t take them long to grasp his real meaning.
