Matilda the Musical is a stage musical based on the novel Matilda by Roald Dahl The show follows the story of a young girl named Matilda who has a passion for reading and a vivid imagination, but is constantly mistreated by her cruel parents and the oppressive headmistress of her school, Miss Trunchbull Despite these obstacles, Matilda discovers she has telekinetic powers and with the help of her kind-hearted teacher Miss Honey, she learns to stand up for herself and fight back against the injustice in her life. The musical features original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and has been praised for its inventive staging and clever use of technology
Mary Poppins the Musical is a stage adaptation of the beloved 1964 Disney film of the same name. The musical tells the story of Mary Poppins, a magical nanny who is hired by the Banks family to help take care of their two mischievous children, Jane and Michael Along the way, Mary teaches the children important life lessons through a series of imaginative adventures, and helps the Banks family to rediscover the joy and wonder of childhood. The musical features classic songs from the original film, such as "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Chim Chim Cher-ee," as well as new songs written specifically for the stage production The show has been praised for its stunning set design, lively dance numbers, and heartwarming message about the importance of family and community.
Seussical the Musical is a family-friendly stage musical that brings to life the characters and stories of several beloved Dr Seuss books The show follows the adventures of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a tiny world called Whoville on a speck of dust, and befriends its inhabitants, including Jojo, a young boy with a vivid imagination. Along the way, Horton must protect the Whos from various dangers, including the villainous Sour Kangaroo and her henchmen, while also dealing with his own struggles of being an outsider The musical features a lively score with catchy songs and colorful production design that brings the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life on stage.
School of Rock the Musical is a stage adaptation of the hit 2003 film of the same name The show tells the story of Dewey Finn, a struggling musician who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school When he discovers that his students are talented musicians, he forms a rock band with them and enters them into a Battle of the Bands competition Along the way, Dewey helps the students to discover their own unique talents and passions, while also addressing important themes such as the value of creativity and the importance of following your dreams The musical features an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and includes highenergy rock songs that showcase the impressive musical abilities of the young cast The show has been praised for its infectious energy, heartwarming message, and impressive performances.
Why these musicals?
We have chosen Matilda, Mary Poppins, Seussical, and School of Rock for students to perform because these musicals offer a diverse range of characters and stories that will provide students with the opportunity to explore a variety of roles and performance styles. From the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss in Seussical, to the magic and adventure of Mary Poppins, to the heartwarming story of Matilda, and the high-energy rock music of School of Rock, each musical offers something unique and engaging for students to sink their teeth into.
We believe that these four musicals offer a well-rounded and engaging selection of performances that will showcase the talents and abilities of our students, while also providing them with a fun and rewarding learning experience.
