Nora Keita Jemisin is an American science fiction/fantasy writer. Born September 19, 1972 in Iowa, currently lives and works in New York City. Jemisin began writing as a child, self-publishing until a resurrected earlier writing took off, and she has since been the recipient of many prestigious awards.

Her interest is the various ways which humans are able to transmit knowledge. She says, “Playing with cultures that are very different from those of our world, give her room to play with the written word in a more ephemeral form.”
