Dear Superior Magazine readers, It’s our last Superior Magazine issue this year and we really like to say THANK YOU to everybody who made 2016 a very successful year for us – our team, our contributors, our partners and of course you! Generally, we present in December all the covers we had in the respective year and you can vote for your favourite cover. But this year we celebrated our 5th anniversary and already showed all covers we ever had on our September cover. Nevertheless, you can win something – more about that at the end. The December cover comes from Malte Grüner. His fashion editorial “Dépayser” is based on a “Plan B” because the venue for the original shooting wasn’t as expected. The whole idea of the editorial had to be built up and improvised right before the shooting. Nonetheless the result is an editorial showing strength and attitude with the usage of extreme light but also reserved setups. Other exciting fashion editorials come from Adam Trzaska, Felix Bernason, Lorenzo Novelli and Michael St-Yves. With these photographers we published nearly w100 fashion editorials this year. Many thanks to all great photographers, stylists, hair & make-up artists, models, designers and everybody else who made this happen. We hope we will see again a lot of great contributions in 2017.

But also by his love of nature and its powerful colours. ABOUT HIS FASHION EDITORIAL OUT & ABOUT FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE The idea behind “Out & About” is to show the beauty of the nature which seems to be so far away from the cities. The autumnal nature has the most beautiful colours, which inspired me to shoot “Out & About”. The photos try to combine these colours with the handsomeness of the models while shooting in this magically silent dunes that amaze with perfection.

Germany, based in Bensheim Malte himself would describe it as a dynamic approach to fashion & portrait photography focussing on light and shadow solely using available light or light sources that can be found on location. It might seem simple, but following his favourite photographers on social media is the starting point – furthermore he looks through (online-) magazines. But inspiration does not only come from online, but the everyday life, whether it’s while travelling or in conversations with other creatives is inspiring as well. France, based in Israel His favourite style of photography is an homage to reportage photography whose arresting images take us through layers of reality. But still they can be seen as fashion stories, capturing people and clothes and body language and a whole Zeitgeist that so-called “fashion” stylists and photographers often reference and try to emulate later on. For today’s photography a central role of professionals has become to capture what’s beyond the visible: character, emotions, relationships, unspoken codes, inner worlds. In fashion photography it is the spark of life that fashion, in a way, only adorns and celebrates (like Mario Testino) as well as those who probe inner worlds and emotions (like Helmut Newton). A few decades of peace in Western Europe made us believe that wars were over, but the world doesn’t rest. And the search for a moment of peace, hidden away from the world and time, can be seen as an act of rebellion against the violent march of history. This story follows a couple of such “deserters” who steal a night away from their bases and the world to rediscover the timeless story of love, hoping they can forget that, with daylight, the dream will end and they will have to rush back to their positions.
