Mile Marker Program

Our Mile Marker Program brings “Building Legacies” to life inside Superior Bowen - not just through the work we deliver, but through the people who make it possible. Just as our team shapes the infrastructure that connects communities, this initiative weaves connection, gratitude, and belonging into the foundation of who we are. Because at Superior Bowen, our greatest legacy isn’t what we build - it’s who we build it with.

A Note From Amanda

As we head into a new season, I find myself reflecting on what makes Superior Bowen different. It always comes back to the same thing: the people.

This year, we’re doubling down on something I’ve been talking about in our annual refresher trainings: Learning Teams. The idea is simple — make sure the best ideas don’t just stay where they’re found, but shape how we work across the entire company. We’ve already completed teams on underground utility hits and overhead strikes, and the work those teams did is a great example of what this program is meant to be: people closest to the work helping us all get better. We’re looking forward to sharing more about what we’ve learned as that work continues to develop.

Here’s how to know if something is a good candidate for a Learning Team: if it feels Dumb, Dangerous, Difficult, or Different, that’s worth a conversation. Those are the moments where we have the most to learn, and where your perspective matters most. If something in your dayto-day fits one of those four Ds, speak up. We want to hear from you.

Speaking of the people doing the work, this newsletter is full of things worth celebrating. From award recognition, to a major project at the KU football stadium, to the launch of our new employee store, there’s a lot to be proud of heading into this season.

But through all of it, the thing that matters most is that everyone goes home safe. No schedule, no budget, no deadline changes that. If something doesn’t look right, stop and say something. We have your back.

Thank you for showing up every day with the commitment and care that makes this company worth being a part of. Let’s make it a great year!

Superior Bowen is proud to have played a key role in several projects recognized in the 2026 Capstone Awards by the Kansas City Business Journal. QUARTER CHAMPIONS

Champions of the Quarter

Every month, we celebrate the individuals and teams who go above and beyond in living our core values. Through the Champions program, we highlight their hard work and dedication. Their commitment inspires all of us to keep building a positive, collaborative work environment. Congratulations to our Champions! Your actions make Team SB every day!

“Brian is involved in every SiteWorks project. If it has dirt, asphalt, or concrete that must end up in the right place, Brian has touched it. This past week really highlighted his commitment. With a hard bid deadline, Brian completed multiple takeoffs using both contour files and cross sections. Brian exemplifies teamwork, dedication, and having each other’s backs. His work may not always be visible, but it is absolutely essential. Thank you, Brian, for everything you do!”

“Kandy does incredible work behind the scenes for SB, taking on some of the toughest and least fun situations so others can stay focused on their jobs. We truly appreciate everything she quietly does for SB, and I wanted to take a moment to publicly acknowledge her work! Thank you, Kandy!”

Every three years, CONEXPO-CON/AGG brings the construction industry together in one place. It’s a chance to step back from the day-to-day and see where things are going. This year, 14 members of our team spent four days taking it all in, from education sessions to time on the show floor, and one thing stood out right away. The pace of change across the industry is picking up.

A big part of that shift is technology. Tools powered by connectivity, automation, and AI were everywhere, and they’re quickly becoming part of everyday work. Alan Vassmer, Estimator, noted how widely AI is being used to improve workflows and support better decision-making. What used to feel cutting edge is now becoming standard. Jobsites are getting smarter, and teams have more real-time information than ever before. That kind of visibility helps reduce risk, improve efficiency, and keep projects moving forward with confidence.

There was also a strong focus on equipment innovation, especially solutions that make life easier in the field. Toby Oberman, Plant Manager, pointed out a new asphalt plant burner design that stood out for how its simplicity and accessibility. In a space where things can easily become overcomplicated, that kind of straightforward design matters. It has the potential to make a real difference in how equipment is used and maintained day to day.

Sustainability was another clear priority throughout the event. It came up again and

again in sessions focused on concrete, materials, and longterm performance. Cody Frederick, Concrete Division Manager, attended several of those sessions and saw how much attention is being given to reducing carbon and improving material efficiency. From mix design to construction practices, the industry is actively working toward more sustainable solutions. It’s not something on the horizon. It’s already shaping how projects are planned and executed.

Beyond the sessions and equipment, one of the most valuable parts of the experience was the people. Superior Bowen brought a strong group from across multiple divisions, which made the event even more impactful. Sharing ideas, comparing perspectives, and learning from each other added another layer to the experience. As Jake Mallonee, Equipment Manager, noted, it wasn’t just about what we saw. It was also a meaningful opportunity to connect as a team and bring those insights back together.

We go to CONEXPO to learn, but more importantly, to bring that knowledge back and put it to work. Every conversation, every session, and every piece of equipment we explored helps us keep improving how we build. It keeps us aligned with where the industry is going and ensures we’re ready for what’s next.

SiteWorks Project Highlight

David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium | University of Kansas

Superior Bowen is completing early-phase sitework at KU’s stadium to support its reopening this season.

At David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas, construction is underway as part of the University of Kansas Gateway District Expansion.

Superior Bowen’s SiteWorks crews mobilized in January 2026 to begin critical early-phase work that will set the foundation for the stadium’s next chapter. Superior Bowen was hired to complete earthwork, grading, underground utilities, and roadways in advance of the stadium’s August reopening for the first football game of the season. With a firm deadline in place, crews are executing major utility and earthwork operations through winter conditions, all within the confines of an active university campus. The site’s tight footprint and constant pedestrian and vehicular traffic

require detailed coordination, disciplined sequencing, and steady communication to maintain both safety and schedule.

SiteWork operations are progressing efficiently. To date, crews have hauled off approximately 12,000 cubic yards of unsuitable material and placed roughly 4,500 tons of rock to establish a stable foundation for what’s to come. As deep foundations were drilled and poured, pier spoils were removed to keep the site clean and organized. Footing installation is now underway, and storm utility installation has begun, marking another key step in advancing the project below grade.

These early milestones are essential to supporting the vertical construction that will follow. Once complete, Superior Bowen’s scope will deliver the reliable infrastructure and finished roadways necessary to serve the expanded stadium and surrounding district. With both SiteWorks and Paving services contributing to the effort, the project reflects a coordinated approach to delivering quality work on a compressed timeline. As construction continues through spring and into summer, the focus remains consistent. Protect the schedule. Maintain safe operations. Deliver infrastructure built to perform. When kickoff arrives in August, the renewed stadium will stand on groundwork designed to last, and Superior Bowen is proud to play a role in helping prepare the future home of KU football.
