Plot
After World War II, Donald Spears returns to his hometown of Chicago to reconnect with his family. After the war, he decides to enlist in the police academy to begin a successful career. After successfully solving a significant murder case as a patrol officer, Spears is promoted to detective. His tenure at the Traffic desk results in solving multiple instances of murder and fraud, and a few months later, he is promoted to combat organised crime.
His nose as a detective is so good that he gets nicknames like the bloodhound or the new Elliot Ness, known for his efforts to hunt down Al Capone at the turn of the century. However, after the war, some changes in his personality transformed him into a person with obsessive-compulsive traits, it is due to this that his senses of intuition and anticipation are sharpened, but on the other hand, this has led him to have family problems, which triggers his divorce and the loss of his family.
But this does not dampen his professional life, and he is increasingly assigned more complex cases. Until he is confronted by the Italian mafia, led by Paul
“the Waiter” Ricca, leader of “The Chicago Outfit”.
Ricca followed the legacy of Al Capone’s Mafia and was the boss in name and, in fact, with enforcement chief Tony Accardo as underboss. The Outfit began bringing in members of the Forty-Two Gang, a notoriously violent youth gang. Among them were Sam “Momo” Giancana, Sam “Mad Sam” DeStefano, Felix “Milwaukee Phil” Alderisio, and Fiore “Fifi” Buccieri. During these years, an escalation of crimes begins, especially gambling-related crimes and a case of extortion.
Thanks to Spears’s insight, he manages to foil much of the mob’s plans. However, the mob starts a chase against him and threatens to annihilate his family. Spears has no choice but to escape, but he has enough evidence to accuse the clan and bring them to trial after lengthy investigations. The outcome only depends on how well Spears can evade prosecution.
