Welcome back to In the Mix! It’s been an exciting, if short, term across all the SupaJams. The weather has been wreaking havoc with our emotions lately, but we’re glad it’s landed on the sunny side just in time for the bank holiday weekend and May half term.

Thank you to everyone who is part of our SupaJam community for another incredible term, we’ve loved every moment (as usual!). A special shout out goes to all our students who have completed exams this term. We know exams aren’t enjoyable for most of you, but you’ve worked hard, shown up, and we’re incredibly proud of you all for that.

We’re keeping things a little briefer this time and sharing some of the key highlights from each college. This term has been huge already, and next term is shaping up to be even bigger - so we’ll save some excitement for then!

SupaJam Brighton SupaJam Brighton

May in Brighton can mean only one thing… The Great Escape! Students participated in a variety of work experience opportunities, including photography, live podcast recording, interviewing, and presenting. SupaJam Brighton also hosted a range of music showcases, including a session with the incredible ARXX. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel for those videos!

Our final week of term has been filled with two amazing gigs from our Level 2.1 and Level 2.2 classes. All Brighton Level 2 students have put so much hard work into completing their Events module, resulting in some truly standout gigs. A huge shout out to all the students and staff who performed at them and to whoever made the mocktails, because they were delicious too!

SupaJam Brighton’s ongoing partnership with local train stations has also led to a very cool exhibition of our students’ photography. The project captures students interacting with Southern Railway staff members to highlight how approachable and helpful they are. We’re really looking forward to the exhibition reveal!

SupaJam Canterbury SupaJam Canterbury

Canterbury have had an exciting term - as usual! From gigs, to call outs, to physical work outs, SupaJam Canterbury have had it all.

Students took part in a Pound Fitness workshop this term. The workout is based around the idea that drumming is not only physically intense, but also provides an emotional release that creates a positive ripple effect through participants’ bodies, minds and lives. The session supported students’ physical, social and emotional wellbeing, and although it was very hands-on, everyone got involved and had a great time!

SupaJam Canterbury have also been recruiting new members for their Allstars band ahead of the summer performances. Applications closed this week, so stay tuned to find out which students will make up this brilliant act!

Canterbury rounded off the term with a spectacular end-of-term performance from both students and staff at their final gig of the season, celebrating all of the hard work and creativity shown throughout the term!

SupaJam Earls Court SupaJam Earls Court

Things are really starting to take shape at Earls Court, with new staff being recruited, successful open events taking place, and new students preparing for their upcoming transition days. The campus also welcomed Joe Powell for a visit this term. He was incredibly impressed with the provision and the work being done to support young people. It’s exciting to see everything in full swing ahead of the new academic year.

SupaJam Wandsworth SupaJam Wandsworth

SupaJam Wandsworth had a really full-on and exciting end to term. Students headed out to Earls Court, London to spend time in a big studio and jam room, getting stuck into new creative spaces and making the most of being in a professional setup. Back at college, things turned into a lunchtime dance party with everyone getting involved in tracks like the Cha Cha Slide and Candy, which quickly got the whole room moving. The term finished with an end-of-term gig led by the Level 2s, focusing on pre-2000s music performed by students, alongside a relaxed open mic where people could jump up and showcase whatever they’d been working on, no matter the era or style.

SupaJam Swanley SupaJam Swanley

The Vault is officially open! SupaJam Swanley unveiled the college’s brandnew building, officially opened by Swanley Mayor Keith Mitchell. Over three and a half years in the making, it was a proud and exciting moment for staff and students alike as the new site finally opened its doors. Students have already settled in brilliantly, making full use of the new classrooms and studio spaces. The launch of The SupaJam Swanley Vault was accompanied by a beautiful performance from Florence Sommerville, an exciting rising voice in modern country music.

SupaJam Swanley rounded off another successful term with a delicious staff-cooked fry-up, giving students and staff the chance to come together and see out the term.
