The Program
The Accounting program, housed in the College of Business at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for successful careers in accounting and financial management. The program offers a strong foundation in core accounting principles, including financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and managerial accounting, while also emphasizing critical thinking, ethical decisionmaking, and the use of technology in accounting practices.
Students benefit from small class sizes, personalized attention from experienced faculty, and opportunities for hands-on learning through internships and real-world projects. Designed to prepare graduates for professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), the program equips students with the tools to excel in public accounting, corporate finance, government, or non-profit organizations.
SUNY Poly’s bachelor’s degree in Accounting is registered by the State Education Department as a CPA preparation program.
PROGRAM MODALITIES
SUNY Poly offers two flexible learning options for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting: on-campus and fully online.
• On Campus: The on campus program is intended for students enrolling directly out of high school or for transfer students who hold an associate’s degree.
• Online: The online program is tailored for transfer students who have completed at least 45 credit hours at an accredited college or university or for adult learners with three or more years of full-time work experience after finishing high school or earning an equivalent credential (transfer students, only).
SUNY Poly’s programs in the College of Business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
AACSB accreditation is the largest and most recognized specialized accreditation worldwide. Less than 6% of the world’s 16,000 business programs are AASCB accredited.

BS in Accounting and Business Administration
Rome-native Nick Rossi chose SUNY Poly for many reasons including the high-level accreditation that the College of Business has received and the opportunities provided to students for internship/ research positions and for building their personal brand. Earn an MS in Accounting
Our MS in Accounting is a highly-regarded online program registered by the NYS Education Department as a licensurequalifying program for students to fulfill the 150-credit hour requirement for CPA licensure.
The MS in Accounting is a fully online, 33 credit hour program consisting of 11 courses that allow students to pursue their professional interests on a full-time or part-time basis.
We also offer a CAS in Forensic Accounting and Valuation, which specializes in the field of forensic examination, asset valuation, and fraud detection and prevention.

Our Campus
Located in Utica, NY, on hundreds of wooded and landscaped acres, SUNY Poly’s campus is a beautiful living and learning environment. Students live in our modern, spacious residential complexes, including the new Hilltop Hall, SUNY’s first zero-net carbon residence hall, and enjoy an expanding array of student-focused facilities that include our state-ofthe-art Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing, Student Center, and Wildcat Field House. Katie Matt, Ph.D., ’13, G’14
Assistant Professor of Accounting
Dr. Katie Matt is no stranger to the classrooms of SUNY Poly. A graduate of SUNY Poly with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Accounting, Dr. Matt spent time as an academic advisor and lecturer at SUNY Poly before finishing her doctorate and accepting a full-time position as an Assistant Professor at her alma mater. More than anything, Dr. Matt wants to contribute to the success of her students, saying, “If I can contribute a positive piece in their future, then I have met my goal.”
