Pandemic Pounds Combating Obesity Following COVID-19 As America continues to battle COVID19, numerous studies have now concluded that obesity may be one of the most important predictors of the severe Coronavirus illness. This discovery undoubtedly falls harder on the United States than other nations, given that it has one of the highest obesity rates in the world. These studies have also shown that obese people of any age, including young adults, are at a particular risk. Now that it appears that the trial of the Coronavirus vaccines are close to approval, the question remains whether the government
should be tackling the underlying factors which lead to serious Coronavirus cases, rather than only treating the virus itself. MyBioSource.com, a biotechnological products distribution company, polled 3,120 Americans (aged 18+) which revealed that nearly half (43%) of Floridians believe the government, either state or federal, should immediately act on campaigns to reduce obesity in the country. Doing so could lower the amount of acute virus cases in the future and help ease the burden on healthcare services. Indeed, other countries have taken pre-

101st Drive-By Caravan Birthday of Holocaust Survivor South Florida Holocaust Museum and City of Hallandale Beach Celebrate COVID-19 did not stop the Holocaust Documentation & Education Center (HDEC) and the City of Hallandale Beach from celebrating the 101st birthday of Holocaust Survivor and South Florida resident Julius Eisenstein. With social distancing and all necessary safety measures in place, Julius celebrated this milestone birthday from his Hallandale Beach condo on October 13th with a drive-by caravan of 15+ vehicles. The caravan was led by the Broward Sheriff’s Office and included Eisenstein’s family and friends, the City of Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper, HDEC Board Chair and Founder, Father Pat O’Neill, HDEC President Rositta Kenigsberg, among others. While celebrating with cake and balloons, Mayor Cooper presented Eisenstein with a key to the City of Hallandale Beach. Julius Eisenstein was born on October 13th, 1919 in Tomaszow-Mazowiecki, Poland, the son of Chana and Falik and brother to four siblings. The family owned a successful grocery store and bakery and lived a strong Jewish life. In 1940 when Julius was twenty-one years old, the Tomaszow Ghetto was formed and the family lived with their mother’s sister in the Ghetto, liquidation began in 1942. The Germans chose Julius to clear apartments, bury the dead, his parents and sisters perished in Treblinka. Julius and his brother Jacob, were sent by train to Blizyn, then in June 1943 to AuschwitzBirkenau, in 1944 to Dachau. On the way to

and as a slipper maker. Julius was liberated from Dachau on April 29th, 1945 by the U.S. Army. Upon liberation, he and his brother Jacob walked to Munich where the Americans gave him a
“konditerei,” a confectionary shop which was one of the businesses taken away from the Germans and Julius replaced all of the employees with Survivors of the Holocaust. In 1947, Julius married
Phyllis, who survived the Blizyn Concentration Camp. Their daughter Tobi was born in Germany, 1948. In 1950, Julius and his family sailed to America on the ship “General Hershey.” During the voy-
age he worked as a baker. They arrived in Boston on July 22nd, 1950 and were taken by HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) to New York City. They rented an apartment and their son Fred was born on December 30th, 1950. Julius established numerous businesses in Roslyn, on Long Island where he settled his family. He was a baker, a real estate dealer, owned a shoe business and a travel agency. Julius’ brother Jacob, with whom he survived the Holocaust, settled in Houston, Texas. Julius is widowed and currently lives full time in Hallandale Beach. Julius’ message is to educate the world, especially children, about the Holocaust which must never happen again. He tells what he and other Jews endured, emphasizing himself as a Survivor of and witness to the years in history that were the Holocaust. His message to students is “not to be a bystander, when you see something, speak up!” Julius shares an unwavering sense of conviction to preserve, protect and perpetuate the authentic memory and lessons of the Holocaust. At every one of his speaking engagements, Julius always closes his remarks with the following words which have become his signature statement: “You don’t have to like me, but why do you have to hate me?” Julius continues to participate in the Holocaust Documentation & Education Center’s Speaker’s Bureau, Educational Outreach programs especially on Student Awareness Days.

Glu Media From Page 1A these hard times. “This is our background; we have a team that can really help with this situation. Why don’t we pivot and start to look at this as a media agency?” The transition was organic, as both partners had owned their own respective agencies before and were well acquainted with the demanding, yet delicate and creative art and craft of marketing. What sets Glu apart from other larger agencies, is their attention to detail and the way they pour themselves into each project, delivering unique solutions as opposed to generic services that larger agencies peddle to their clients. “We approach things from a holistic and business owner perspective. Even though we’re a shop for small businesses, we’re trying to over deliver and offer a consultative approach,” says Snyder. In their previous businesses, Pulver and Snyder fostered a similar work culture, aimed at providing specially tailored approaches to their clients. One of their most successful works was the creation of the SPG Weekend Channel for Starwood Hotels and Resorts. By creating a website and an interactive platform for weekend travel that implements articles, videos, infographics and original content, in the same way they hope to serve smaller businesses, they were able to drive clients to the Starwood websites and boost bookings in an exponential fashion. The result was an incredibly successful multimillion-dollar campaign that ran for over 6 years and led to Starwood offering them recurring work. The team at Glu Media hope to do just that for clients looking to drive more customers to their business amidst the ongoing Pandemic. Now, with everything becoming increasingly digital, especially during Covid19, it is within the best interests of business to transition to a more internet-based approach to marketing so as to pull in as
many clients as possible. There is perhaps no better team than Glu Media available at the moment to assist during
these times. With their authentic heart felt approach to their craft, they are sure to help build a future for your company!

Southeast 3rd Street and South Federal Highway. The first day was brisk even with the rain. At the longest point, the line was approximately a 45 minute wait. This may have been many just wanting to make sure they voted. Tuesday, the second day was slower, so if you do not want a line vote early. If you live in Broward County, you can vote at any of the early voting sites. To find out more, visit: www.BrowardSOE. org. Or call: (954) 357-7050. It is very sad that the elections have turned to negative politics again. I, along with Commissioner Taub have been attacked by a Political Action Committee as in the past, tied to Evan Ross, London and Lazarow. This was the lobbyist and group that was found to have interfered and wreaked havoc by the State Attorney in former Vice Mayor Bill Julian’s case. As a resident, I have found that over the past years, this negativity from the national level on down is out of control and drowns out the true message. Local elections are about who is the most knowledgeable and qualified to oversee the municipal government. With the other races knowledge and qualifications are important, but these races have more control over different issues. Social, health, education and judicial. This is where many of us have varying views. It is important to educate yourself on the candidates and not just commercials and news sound bites. Our City has been operating under the Broward COVID-19 rules. They have remained the same since my last article, except for restaurants, they may stay open until 12 midnight. There have been discussions about what our true numbers are and I have shared this concern too. Regretfully since the beginning, all of the Mayors have shared frustration over the lack of accuracy and transparency. I continue to tell everyone wear a mask, wash your hands regularly and social distance. I have been receiving many calls about the demolition going on at the Biltmore on the beach. The owner has purchased all 70 plus units. They have filed the proper permits to demolish it, but regretfully when I had proposed the rules for securing these sites with hard, wooden fences like in Sunny Isles. I could not get the votes for hard fencing, but did get passed rules for other fencing, keeping the area clean and wet to prevent dust. I do plan to ask again for hard fencing and measures to prevent falling objects. The owner does have the right due to state law to build at the same density. The Burt Harris Act says that the local government cannot remove property and it adversely impacts the existing property rights. It is my understanding that the owner built the building right after Golden Beach on the ocean. Currently, there is no submission and I am not aware of anything new. I am sure that they will submit a plan. On our City’s web-site, there is a full listing all of our current applications, approved and completed projects. As

always, I will keep our readers updated if this status changes. Our City has finalized the contract for our tennis services. There had been controversy over this approval. Originally, the Commission wanted to go out to bid to have a board manager that would be able to assist in the design phase and construction. A bid went out and only one applicant responded, Todd Trombetta, the existing professional. That bid was not accepted since only one contractor applied. Obviously, it was a slap in the face to Mr. Trombetta after he has served this community for 37 years. The bid was issued again and there were two applicants with no committee, the staff recommended to award it to Jesse Smatts who runs David Park in Hollywood. When the bid came to the commission, they rejected it as the public spoke out that it should not be reissued until the courts are closer to completion. At that time, the bid included up to $300,000 towards construction of clay courts. It was not accepted on a 5-0 vote. At the very next meeting, the commission voted to change the vote, however, the problem was that the public was not aware that it was going to be brought back up. This is not illegal, but certainly not transparent. This all took place before I came back and the vote was 4-1. Well fast forward, the contract was negotiated and brought back. One hundred thousand dollars was put into an account for future maintenance of $100,000 and furniture, not the $300,000 as thought for the courts. There was a proforma created that provides the City to get court fees on regular courts, not clay, memberships and lighting fees. It is projected to be approximately $55,000. The operator can get court fees for the clay courts, lessons with five courts set aside for him and the other for open play and revenue on all tournaments. After the first $300,000 of profit, the City is to receive 4% of the profits. The way I evaluated it is, we may be receiving $70,000 a year. This is more than we received on the old contract which may sound great. The problem is that the operator is going be given the keys to a multi-million-dollar facility which is renewable in 5 years. In my opinion, we could have done better and opened the bid for more competition. This is no slight against Mr. Smatts, however, we are here to work for you the residents to get the very best deal. Heart Of Italy From Page 1A Right in the heart of so much positive growth, Carini’s Pizza & Pasta is going strong after a decade of putting smiles on the faces of those who love to eat great and not spend a fortune. Known for generous portions of New York style pizza, a variety of salads, hot and cold sandwiches, calzones and pastas, this has been a destination that keeps diners coming back often for years. Hot lunch sandwiches are also popular as well - with Meatball Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana, Sausage & Peppers, Grilled Chicken, Chicken Philly and Philly Cheese Steak taking center stage. For Hollywood resident Rosa Miyares, the short drive from her home is something she and her sister, Gabriella, make often. They love the pizza and salad, usually taking plenty home for leftovers. Recently, they have been ordering for curbside pickup. “We come for pizza once a week,” Miyares said. “Tonight we are having our second favorite, The Hawaiian, which as you can see has the cheese, ham, pineapple and sauce. I would never have thought this would all go

Dinner menus are often filled with some of the favorites like, Eggplant Parmigiana, chicken and veal dishes, as well as seafood entrées such as Tilapia Pizzaiola and Zuppa de Pesce. When talking about pasta dishes, there will be some tough decisions to make. From Garlic &

member or friend to lose weight in order to reduce their risk of complications, should they become infected. However, worryingly, the survey found that over one-third (34%) say they do not believe that there is a clear enough link between obesity and Coronavirus complications. “Improving your overall health and fitness levels could be a key factor in reducing your risk of developing complications to do with the Coronavirus. If you are lacking in exercise opportunities due to social distancing regulations, you may want to turn grocery store visits into opportunities to get your body moving. Or, you may want to use the time saved from your daily commute,
to walk an extra loop around your neighborhood!” says Dr. Lisa Heiden of MyBioSource .com. Staying Fit Isn’t Just About Looking Good! Fortunately, the fitness industry is trying to accommodate this awakening. Many gyms moved fitness classes outdoors and on-line for the first time. Organizations like the American College of Sports Medicine, have actively campaigned for outdoor fitness resources in disadvantaged communities. Further transforming the American’s relationship with exercise -- and making it a critical component of their health and wellness plans -- will also require the help of exercise sci-
ence professionals. These individuals are trained to develop individualized wellness programs that consider people’s age, health, culture and other factors that influence their ability to maintain a healthy routine. Someone at risk of developing High Blood Pressure may know they need more exercise, but have no idea where to start. An exercise science professional can help set realistic and achievable goals -- something as simple as a short morning walk. That person can then develop longerterm habits that incorporate more vigorous exercise into their routine. Or, exercise science experts can educate chronic disease patients about the ways physical
activity can help manage their conditions -- from reducing the pain associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis to increasing Insulin sensitivity for Diabetics. These professionals can also adjust their methods based on a client’s individual comfort levels. Many Americans still don’t feel safe entering brick-and-mortar gyms. In response, exercise science professionals can build other innovative tools and training models, such as remote platforms and outdoor workout settings. COVID-19 has disrupted our society, but it has also created an opportunity to improve our health -- by transforming exercise into the primary weapon in our fight against disease.

Help Hallandale Beach Create Their Climate Action Plan The City of Hallandale Beach is commited to improving the quality of life for it’s residents while reducing emissions and pollution. They believe they can improve our community & make our City greener at the same time, that is why they’re asking for your input! Between now and the summer of 2021, they will be using a new platform to gather your input to help shape their plan for the future, specifically the City’s first 10-year Climate Action Plan. This new website: www.haveyoursayhallandal e.org is open for your input 24/7, not just at 5 pm on a given date. The whole website can be translated into the many different languages spoken in Hallandale Beach, so we can all communicate comfortably about the issues that are important to us. You don’t have to drive or park anywhere or find childcare to let your voice be heard, just sign in and share your thoughts and interact with others if you wish. We’re hoping that this new platform encourages residents who
haven’t collaborated with the City before to be active in our local government. Between now and January, get on-line and brainstorm ideas on digital post-it notes, share your comments/concerns/criticisms/compliments in the “guestbook” and place “pins” on a digital map where you think shade is needed, where it feels dangerous to be a pedestrian, where sidewalks are needed or are in disrepair, etc. Between now and January, we want all of your ideas so that in February they can start to identify the specific projects that meet your demands and reduce our carbon pollution at the same time. In February they will introduce new “tools” on the website to facilitate that conversation. The ultimate plan is to have the Climate Action Plan ready (and okay by the participants) for an Adoption hearing with the City Commission in August /September of 2021. Please visit the website and start to share your feelings and ideas today. Go to: haveyoursayhallan dale.org/climate-action-plan to get started.

The 2020 Election Bamboozle We Are All Victims of the Deep State’s Con Game By John W. Whitehead
This is not an election. This is a con game, a scam, a grift, a hustle, a bunko, a swindle, a flimflam, a gaffle and a bamboozle. In this carefully choreographed scheme to strip the American citizenry of our power and our rights, “we the people” are nothing more than marks, suckers, stooges, mugs, rubes or gulls. We are victims of the Deep State’s confidence game. In this particular con game, every candidate dangled before us as some form of political savior—including Donald Trump and Joe Biden— is part of a long-running, elaborate scam intended to persuade us that, despite all appearances to the contrary, we live in a constitutional republic. In this way, the voters are the dupes, the candidates are the shills and as usual, it’s the Deep State rigging the outcome. Terrorist attacks, pandemics, civil unrest: these are all manipulated crises that add to the sense of urgency and help us feel invested in the outcome of the various elections, but it doesn’t change much in the long term. No matter who wins this election, we’ll all still be prisoners of the Deep State. We just haven’t learned to recognize our prison walls as such. It’s like that old British television series The Prisoner, which takes place in a mysterious, selfcontained, cosmopolitan, seemingly idyllic retirement community
known only as The Village. Perhaps the best visual debate ever on individuality and freedom, The Prisoner (17 episodes in all) centers around a British secret agent who abruptly resigns only to find himself imprisoned, monitored by militarized drones and interrogated in The Village, a
Britain 50-some years ago, The Prisoner dystopian television series — described as “James Bond meets George Orwell filtered through Franz Kafka” — confronted societal themes that are still relevant today: the rise of a police state, the loss of freedom, round-the-clock surveillance, the corruption of government, totalitarianism, weaponization, group think, mass marketing and the tendency of human beings to meekly accept their lot in life as prisoners in a prison of their own making. The series’ protagonist, played by Patrick McGoohan is Number Six. Throughout the series, Number Six is subjected to interrogation tactics, torture, hallucinogenic drugs, identity theft, mind control, dream manipulation and various forms of social indoctrination and physical coercion in order to “persuade” him to comply, give up, give in and subjugate himself to the will of the powers-that-be.
to escape, it’s never far enough. Watched by surveillance cameras and other devices, Number Six’s attempts to escape are continuously thwarted by ominous white balloon-like spheres known as “rovers.” Still, he refuses to give up. Number Six’s escapes become a surreal exercise in futility, each episode an unfunny, unsettling Groundhog’s Day that builds to the same frustrating denouement: there is no escape. The series is a chilling lesson about how difficult it is to gain one’s freedom in a society in which prison walls are disguised within the seemingly benevolent trappings of technological and scientific progress, national security and the need to guard against terrorists, pandemics, civil unrest, etc. The Prisoner’s Village is also an apt allegory for the American Police State: it gives the illusion of freedom while functioning all the while like a prison: controlled, watchful, inflexible, punitive, deadly and inescapable. Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide: this is the new mantra of
to amass a profile of who you are, what makes you tick, how best to control you, when and if it becomes necessary to bring you in line. Consequently, we now find ourselves in the unenviable position of being monitored, managed, corralled and controlled by technologies that answer to government and corporate rulers. Consider that on any given day, the average American going about his daily business will be monitored, surveilled, spied on and tracked in more than 20 different ways, by both government and corporate eyes and ears. This is the electronic concentration camp—the panopticon prison—the Village—in which we are now caged. It is a prison from which there will be no escape. Certainly not if the government and its corporate allies have anything to say about it, none of this will change, no matter who wins this upcoming presidential election. That’s the hustle, you see: because despite all of the work being done to help us buy into the fantasy that things will change if we just elect the right candidate, the day First broadcast in Great Britain 50-some years ago, The Prisoner dystopian television series after a new president is described as “James Bond meets George Orwell filtered through Franz Kafka”- confronted societal themes sworn in, we’ll still find ourthat are still relevant today: the rise of a police state, the loss of freedom, round-the-clock surveillance, the selves prisoners of the corruption of government, totalitarianism, weaponization, group think, mass marketing, and the tendency of Village. human beings to meekly accept their lot in life as prisoners in a prison of their own making. 9 In 10 Voters Support Another Covid Relief Bill Americans are concerned about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on all aspects of the economy, and 90 percent support Congress passing another economic stimulus bill to help distressed small businesses and employees, according to a new survey of registered voters conducted by Morning Consult and commissioned by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA). A resounding 89 percent agree that Congress should remain in session until reaching an agreement on an economic stimulus package. “Millions of Americans are out of work, and thousands of small businesses are dying,” said Chip Rogers, president and CEO of AHLA. “It is well past time for our leaders in Washington to pass a stimulus bill to help these employees and businesses in the hardest-hit industries, including and especially, ours. It is unacceptable for Congress to adjourn without passing a bill.” There is widespread concern about the effects of COVID-19 on all elements of the economy, including small businesses (93% very/somewhat concerned), unemployment rates (90%), and Americans’ own personal/family financial situation (75%). As Congress considers how to respond to the ongoing pandemic, voters agree on the importance of helping families (74% very important)
