Holiday Shopping Safety Tips from the Hollywood Police Department The holidays are a joyous time to spend with loved ones and many of us enjoy exchanging gifts and donating to charitable causes. This year, that tradition is one of many that have been complicated by the pandemic. Medical experts are urging people to stay home and shop online as much as possible, however there are still many people who are hitting the stores to finish up their holiday shopping. Unfortunately, COVID has not scared away the high volume of thieves and scam artists who want to take advantage of the holiday spirit of giving. Here are some tips from the Hollywood Police Department to help you ensure your purchases and donations don’t end up costing you more than you expected.
When shopping with small children, keep them close to you and make a plan in case you are separated from each other. Select a central meeting place and teach them how to identify mall personnel or security if they need help. Teach children to never leave the store until you find one another. When parking your vehicle to go shopping, remember where you parked it! Always park in a well-lit and well-traveled area. Do
possible, take them directly home. Do not leave any valuables (i.e. your purse, wallet, or cellular telephone) in plain view in your vehicle. Lock your vehicle and put up your windows even while you are driving. Shopping Online When shopping online, it’s wise to pay with a credit card instead of a debit card if possible. Both allow you to dispute a charge if the merchandise never
Shopping in Stores While shopping in a store keep yourself safe by maintaining a 6-foot distance from other shoppers, wear a facial covering at all times and follow store directional and safety signage. Do not buy more than you can carry, plan ahead by taking someone with you or ask a store employee to help you carry your packages to the car. A good rule to deter a thief is to carry your purse Consider alternate close to your body or your wallet inside a coat or options to pay for your front trouser pocket. financial information. Contact your financial institution to see if they offer such a service. Save all receipts and print and save all confirmations from your online purchases. Start a file folder to keep all receipts together and to help you verify credit card or bank statements as they come in. Keep your personal information safe. Never provide your credit card, bank account information or social security number
to a stranger. No reputable vendor or service provider will ever initiate a call and ask you for this information over the phone. Holiday Charity Scams Be sure the charity is legitimate, you can check to see if they are a registered charity with the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at https://www.fdacs.gov/Cons umer-Resources/Charities or by calling 1.800.HELP.FLA. While there, be sure you check to
understand how much of the donation will actually go toward the work of the charity as opposed to administrative expenses. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance at http://give.org/ or by calling 703.247.9321 to determine if the charity you are donating to has any complaints against them. Watch for similar sounding charities. It’s not unusual for scam artists to choose names that sound like the names of legitimate, widely known charities. Never give your credit card number or bank account information to a caller on the phone or someone who sent you an unsolicited email. If you are interested in donating to a charity that has initiated contact with you, ask them to send you a pledge form and information about the charity in the mail. Legitimate charities should have no problem with this request. Most tax-exempt organizations are also required to file an annual return or notice with the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS Code requires automatic revocation of a charity’s taxexempt status (some charities are exempt from this requirement) if it fails to file a return for three consecutive years. Publication of an organization’s name on the Auto Revocation list on the IRS website helps potential donors determine the status of a charity. To learn more about the tax-exempt status of a charity, go to www.irs.gov and search the Charities and Non-Profits topics. Being mindful of these important tips to safeguard your identity, avoid scams and shop safely can help ensure you have a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

Brand International Perfume Jacqueline Kels
Getting Ready For The Holidays! Brand International Can Gift Wrap & Ship New Designer Eyewear & Trendy Fragrances As the start of Chanukah is upon us tonight (December 10, 2020 - December 18) and Christmas soon thereafter, we all have much to be thankful for. For Jewish people around the world, Chanukah is marked by lighting candles on the menorah for eight nights, eating latkes and spinning the dreidel. But when the holiday starts, many Jewish Americans will be focused on a different tradition: gift-giving. It’s important to recognize that it is an American Jewish phenomenon, this gift-giving that’s part of Chanukah. Just like the Chanukah tradition of gift giving, a Christmas gift or Christmas present is a gift given in celebration of Christmas. The practice of giving gifts during Christmas time, according to Christian tradition, is symbolic of the presentation of the gifts by the Three Wise Men to the infant Jesus. These traditions have given families for generations a sense of tradition and closeness. What better can we use right now, than a bit normalcy in this uncertain year of 2020? For many this year, gift giving may be more difficult than in years past. Local entrepreneur Jacqueline Kels wants to help you with that. She and her staff

A persistent cough can be be caused from exposure to damp and moldy environments which can lead to a variety of health effects. Mold & viruses can enter your home through open doorways, windows, vents, and heating and air conditioning systems.
Water Damage - Leak Detection - Mold Testing 1st Priority Restoration - Protecting Your Home & Your Health 1st Priority From Page 1A estate back to proper functioning. The professionals at 1st Priority will inspect the underlying causes that have caused the water damage in the first place and make sure there won’t be a reoccurrence. They will repair all of the damaged structures and replace the materials to make your property safe for years to come. If your property has been exposed to water damage, you may have to do water mitigation. Strict actions are required in water mitigation, such as: removal of damaged materials such as drywall and flooring. Molds and mildew that have accumulated in areas in your property will be disinfected and deodorized to restore a healthy environment. Further cleaning and deodorizing should be done to make sure that your real estate is back in tip-top shape. Water damage mitigation should happen immediately after flooding or water buildup. Take action immediately, because letting your property sit in water can cause further damages and expenses. Materials soaking in water collect microbes and spread water-borne diseases. Furniture, wood flooring and walls will crack, sag and collect fungi after prolonged exposure to moisture. If your property is particularly old, it may be time to replace materials such as pipes to prevent a reoccurrence of water damage. If pipes are behind walls it may require more extensive repair. The water mitigation process will depend on how long your property has been exposed to water. Air humidifiers and drying equipment must be turned on around the clock in areas with severe water damage. Mold spores are especially dangerous to health and thorough cleaning and disinfecting should be done as part of the water damage mitigation. It is advisable to get the temperature, humidity and moisture of your property tested to see if it has been restored to normal standards, 1st Priority professionals can handle the entire process. After 1st Priority Restoration evaluates the work and equipment needed to clean
your home, they will provide you with an estimate or contract for their services. Leak Detection: One tiny water leak can create huge problems in a home or business. An undetected water pipe leak will not only dramatically increase your utility bills, but it can also lead to even more expensive water damage and mold. If you’ve had higher than average water bills, constantly have to refill your pool or hear running water, it’s time to call the leak detection specialists at 1st Priority Restoration! Is water pipe leak detection possible if the pipes are behind a wall? Yes, using the newest state-of-the-art detection tools, highly trained technicians are able to locate water pipe leaks that are hidden behind walls. They can even provide water plumbing leak detection within concrete slab foundations. Will insurance cover the cost of plumbing leak detection services? That all depends on your home’s insurance plan. In many situations, when there is a need for water damage restoration, many insurance companies will cover the related costs. 1st Priority Restoration representatives can work directly with your home insurance company to verify the need for the plumbing leak detection service, cause of the problem and the repairs that will be required to remedy the situation. Mold And Your Home: Mold is found both indoors and outdoors. Mold can enter your home through open doorways, windows, vents, heating and air conditioning systems. Mold in the outside air can also attach itself to clothing, shoes, bags and pets, which can be carried indoors. Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, pipes or where there has been flooding. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles and wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric and upholstery. With all of the rain and storms we have been having these past months, you can see a pattern of mold growth that will last. From leaks, flooding and
driving rain, mold growth is a certainty in South Florida. If you are concerned that you might have a mold or mildew problem, it is best to call the professionals for a complete evaluation of your home. Your health is your most important asset, so just like you go see a doctor for a test, your home needs testing as well. Never Fool Around With Mold & Mildew: When it comes to mold and mildew, we cannot take those potential hazards lightly. A mold problem can cause you to experience dizziness, anxiety, depression and even hallucinations. If you have been experiencing a diminished attention span or problems with your memory, it might be a good idea to have your home inspected for black mold by a mold remediation crew. For people sensitive to mold, inhaling or touching mold spores can cause allergic reactions, including sneezing, runny nose, red eyes and skin rashes. People with serious mold allergies may have more severe reactions, including shortness of breath. At 1st Priority Restoration, this is what they do 365 days a year, nobody knows how to prevent potential dangers like they do. By dialing: 1 (800) 617-1112 – you can save financially and your health as well! Very Important Information: There are some important ways that we can prevent the spread of mold and what you can do to get rid of it. Keep an eye out for hidden leaks: Wet spots on your ceiling, the baseboards or on the floor are a telltale sign of a leaky pipe or roof. Your home’s pipes are behind drywall, which can leave a small leak unnoticed. Mold can grow behind those walls and filter into the air through ducts or pipes. At 1st Priority, they can come in and assess the situation before it gets worse. Did you know that many air conditioner systems/ ducts are susceptible to mold growth? They often trap moisture, creating a breeding ground for spores. Bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms create a lot of excess heat and humidity, especially here in south Florida – whether it is from a shower, stove or even a dryer, all of these areas should be well ventilated.
Education is key to anything – when our health is at stake – knowing that mold spores can lay dormant for years after they are produced and could begin growing again at any time, it is extremely important to know. Because of this, regular cleanings and having 1st Priority Restoration to depend on, will certainly make our lives much easier. Ever wonder why you or your children wake up coughing and sneezing on a regular basis? The CDC may have the answer. According to the CDC, in 2004 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found that there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, coughing, sneezing and wheezing in otherwise healthy people and in individuals susceptible with compromised immune conditions. Mold or mold spores may cause asthma attacks in people who have asthma and are allergic to mold. Even in some nonallergic individuals, mold can cause symptoms of irritation in the eyes, skin and airways. For example, the “black mold” Stachybotrys, along with some other types of mold, produce toxins known as mycotoxins that can cause irritation of the skin and airways in susceptible individuals. Sometimes, people may develop severe reactions to mold exposure, but cleaning and sanitizing by professionals can help mitigate the health issues. Experience Is Everything: With decades in the business, 1st Priority Restoration is a reputable company with over 20 employees that are licensed and insured. They have been doing all types of cleaning, sanitizing, leak/mold detection and water damage restoration for more than a decade. “We use the most efficient cleaning and water removal equipment to make sure

Chanukah Celebrations Bringing a Message of Light & Hope to South Florida Amid the Pandemic By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil
Chanukah (Hanukkah or Hanuka), which is known as the Festival of Lights, begins this year on the evening of Thursday, December 10, 2020, and concludes the evening of Friday, December 18. It recalls the victory of a militarily weak Jewish people who defeated the Syrian Greeks who had overrun ancient Israel and sought to impose restrictions on the Jewish way of life and prohibit religious freedom. They also desecrated and defiled the Temple and the oils prepared for the lighting of the menorah, which was part of the daily service. Upon recapturing the Temple only one jar of undefiled oil was found, enough to burn only one day, but it lasted miraculously for eight. In commemoration, Jews celebrate Chanukah for eight days by lighting an eight-branched candelabrum known as a menorah. Today, people of all faiths consider the holiday a symbol and message of the triumph of freedom over oppression, of spirit over matter, of light over darkness. Additional information about the holiday is available at ChabadChayil.org/Holidays. This year’s menorah lighting is done with the recognition of the crucial need for a message of hope during a time that is so difficult for so many. The menorah serves as a symbol of light and hope for us today amidst the challenges of the pandemic, as it did for generations before us. The flames of the menorah shine out into the night, reminding us that even when confronted with much darkness, a tiny light can dispel it all. An additional act of goodness and kindness, another act of light, can make all the difference. Indeed, the coronavirus has hit South Florida hard with so many tragic victims of the pandemic. And the virus has hurt so many, all over, not only those
infected but also those who have suffered economic and emotional devastation. Throughout the pandemic, Chabad has been on the front lines of providing social, humanitarian and spiritual support to the South Florida community and the world over. This year, as many will be celebrating this most joyous holiday, isolated at home, The Rebbe message, that the menorah is a reminder that light can be brought to the darkest of times, is more relevant than ever. Uniquely, at the core of Chanuka’s observance is sharing the light with others who may not be experiencing it. With that in mind, the covid-safe menorah lighting is the latest of many innovative programs created in response to these unique times. Miami-Dade’s newly elected, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava & Commissioner Sally Heyman are some of the dignitaries who will lead this year’s Grand Chanukah
celebration in North Dade. The free event which will take place on NE 26th Ave & 211 Ter in Highland Lakes, will include music, an incredible laser light show, a holiday scavenger hunt and a meaningfully fun time for everyone. To ensure everyone is safe, the menorah lighting will be outdoors, with enough room for participants to be socially distanced. The event will be broadcast live via JewishFlorida.news so South Florida families can share in the celebration from the safety of their home. Following the menorah lighting ceremony, prepackaged donuts & menorah kits and holiday treats will be distributed. This year has seen illness, death, quarantine, closures and business collapses, all amidst an overwhelming sense of sheer confusion and despair. In light of this heightened sense of urgency to share the message, spirit and
hope of Chanukah, the ChabadLubavitch movement worldwide is preparing the largest Chanukah awareness campaign in history. The menorah lighting is part of the worldwide Chanukah campaign launched by The Rebbe, in 1973. This year’s global campaign organized by local Chabad centers will reach 12 million Jews in more than 100 countries. With safety measures limiting many inperson gatherings, Chabad will erect some 15,000 large public menorahs, which will be seen by millions on streets and public squares around the world, including in front of landmarks such as the White House, the Eiffel Tower, and the Kremlin. Chabad-organized menorah parades will see over 6,500 Chanukah menorah-topped cars hit the road, bringing the Chanukah message of hope and joy through the city and into residential neighborhoods, allowing
families to safely share the joy and light of Chanukah with pride. With many events curtailed, others opting for a drive-in model and many people isolating, Chabad will help families bring the light and celebration of Chanukah into their homes and will distribute approximately 32 million Chanukah candles, more than 700,000 menorah kits, 350,000 family at-home Hanukkah kits and 2.5 million holiday guides in 17 languages. Throughout the State of Florida, Chabad will be organizing scores of giant menorah displays of all sorts. To find a local event here in Florida, or anywhere throughout the world, visit the international Chanukah event directory at ChabadChayil.org/Chanukah. Large display Menorahs are available at many online sources and can still get to you in time for the holiday. If you need a menorah or candles for yourself, or need any help celebrating the holiday or finding a large Menorah to display at your place of work, please call your local Chabad or my office at (305) 770-1919. We can also help you plan your own Chanukah event, Menorah lighting or Latke party. We wish you and your family a very happy Chaunkah. May our days be filled with light, warmth, joy and positive energy, and always increasing, just like the Menorah lights that increase with each day. To join us for the annual beautiful Chanukah event or help cover the cost, call (305) 7701919 or visit ChabadChayil.org/ fair. What’s The Difference Between The Flu and COVID-19? Getting vaccinated for the flu is more important than ever. Not only will a flu shot help keep you and your family healthy, it can help reduce the strain on the healthcare system and keep hospital beds and other medical resources available for people with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This is no ordinary Flu season; it’s a Flu season amid a Pandemic. With two dangerous viruses going around at once, it’s time for people to protect their communities by getting the vaccine already available: the flu vaccine. Influenza (flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they’re caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new Coronavirus (called SARS-CoV2) and the Flu is caused by infection with Influenza Viruses. Because some symptoms of the Flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis and it is possible to have the Flu and COVID-19 at the same time. Health experts are still studying how common this can be. While it’s not possible to say with certainty what will happen in the winter, the CDC believes it’s likely that Flu Viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both be spreading. The CDC has developed a test that will check for A - and B - type seasonal Flu viruses and SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. This test will be used by U.S. public health laboratories. Testing for these viruses at the same time will give public health officials important information about how Flu and COVID-19 are spreading and what preventive steps should be taken. Get Your Flu Shot: People with Medicare are at greater risk for
serious complications from the Flu because of their age. A Flu shot is an important preventive tool for individuals with Asthma, Diabetes, Heart and Lung Disease - chronic conditions that can increase the risk for serious Flu-related health complications or even death. It’s the best protection from getting and
spreading the Flu virus, it’s covered by Medicare at no cost where doctors and other qualified healthcare providers accept Medicare as payment for the shot. Medicare Part B covers one Flu shot per Flu season per Beneficiary. A Flu shot can be shown to reduce the risk of Flu illness,
hospitalization and death, it won’t protect you against COVID-19, but it has many other important benefits. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there’s no evidence that a Flu vaccination increases your risk of getting sick from Coronavirus, like the one that
causes COVID-19. Those at high risk for Flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people 65 years and older, people with certain chronic health conditions and anyone who is six months old or older should get a yearly Flu vaccine. The CDC recommends getting vaccinated in September or October, so if you haven’t already now is the time, but a Flu shot anytime during the Flu season can help protect you. Flu season in North America rarely begins before early October and usually lasts from December to March. In the past two years, the peak activity has occurred around mid-to-late February. Your body needs two weeks after a shot to develop a protective response to the Influenza Virus, so your best bet is to get vaccinated before the Flu rate begins to climb. Workplaces and other settings that usually provide Flu shots may not do so this season because of the challenges from maintaining social distancing. For more information on where you can get a Flu vaccine, visit: www.vaccinefinder.org. When going to get a Flu shot, please practice everyday preventive actions and follow the CDC’s recommendations for running essential errands. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or health department if they are following the CDC’s vaccination Pandemic guidance. Any vaccination location following the CDC’s guidance should be a safe place for you to get a Flu vaccine. If you have a child over six months old who qualifies for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you may also qualify for a Flu vaccination at no cost to you. Visit the doctor, pharmacy, or other local providers to get a Flu shot today to protect yourself, your family and your community.

VenaSeal™ differs from traditional vein treatments in the way it quickly causes occlusion within the vein. Treatments take only 20-30 minutes each.
One of the most effective treatments for large varicose veins with a success rate of 98 -100 percent, endovenous laser ablation involves inserting a very thin laser fiber through the affected vein via a needle so there is normally no scar or incision and requires no sutures.

develop in the legs and can be seen or felt through the skin. Spider veins are smaller, red and blue vessels that also twist and turn but are tiny. Spider veins are easily visible through the skin, as well but are very small and often fan out in arcs. What most people don’t know, however, is that both spider veins and varicose veins are often connected. Self magazine reports, “Patients who have varicose veins almost always have spider veins, too. However, some people get spider veins and never have a problem with varicose veins.” Whichever the ones you have, both can cause symptoms. Around sixty percent of people with only spider veins have symptoms of burning, aching, itching, throbbing or other symptoms. Almost 90 percent of people with varicose veins have symptoms of swelling, aching, burning, throbbing, skin discoloration or hardening of the skin and even ulcerations Dr. Susan B. Sounds perfect? Wait, it gets better. These kinds of procedures can be done in just a 30-minute window of time and there is little to no down time afterwards. In studies, around 50% of people had no pain afterwards and most only described it as a two to four on a scale of 1 to 10. The pain usually is relieved by a little ibuprofen or naproxen for a few days and you can return to most normal activities immediately. Varithena Ideal for smaller, less obtrusive veins, foam sclerotherapy is a safe and effective vein removal technique. During traditional sclerotherapy, a medicated solution is injected directly into the affected veins. When injected as a foam rather than a liquid, the solution can target some of the larger, underlying varicose veins that cannot typically be treated with sclerotherapy. The foam irritates the lining of the vessel walls for longer and pushes the blood out of the way, causing them to stick together and close shut, rerouting the blood through healthy veins. While you may feel a sting at the injection site, foam sclerotherapy is not considered a painful technique and is minimally invasive. We perform it under ultrasound guidance and direct it into the problematic vein watching everything as we are doing it. The person has no down time, usually no to minimal pain and only needs to stay active and wear compression hose afterwards. VenaSeal This is a great non-surgical approach to removing your varicose veins. VenaSeal™ attempts to treat veins by fostering a clot to form by injecting a crazy gluelike substance into the vein. It causes the vein walls to adhere and seal shut. As long as no one has had an allergic reaction to crazy glue or surgical glues, this is an option for the treatment of veins. Ambulatory Phlebectomy A surgical approach to remov-
ing larger and more troublesome veins, ambulatory phlebectomy is an in-office procedure that requires local anesthesic (think lidocaine like at the dentist). The veins are teased out through the small holes without causing any major scarring or requiring major surgery, which is a significant advancement from the extensive vein stripping procedures of the past. Most often this is done with pinholes that don’t even need to be closed with sutures. Although this procedure requires small incisions in the skin, most patients return to normal activities immediately afterward without any necessary recovery time. Spider Vein Removal Often, spider vein removal is cosmetic even though they may cause symptoms. The gold standard is sclerotherapy where a solution is injected into the vein with a teeny-tiny needle and the vein lining gets irritated and gradually seals shut closing off that tiny vein over several weeks. It often takes several sessions for all of the veins to go away. If a person is afraid of needles, laser is an option and we have cutaneous lasers as well, that remove these tiny red veins without much difficulty. The laser uses light pulses to heat the vein and scar them shut. For the tiny and unsightly facial veins or miniscule red veins, we also have a machine called the VeinGogh which uses microbursts of energy to close shut teeny veins without any down time or scarring. This procedure often seals the tiny veins over a few days to weeks and can be done in a few sessions often with amazing results. As you can see, we have plenty of ways to make sure the veins in your legs are at their healthiest. With many more options to choose from, we encourage you to give us a call and set up a consultation to determine the best course of treat-ment for your varicose veins, today! www.foxvein experts.com 954-965-4922 with offices in Hollywood and Pembroke Pines.
