Hallandale Beach Selects New City Manager On Wednesday, February 3, 2021 the City of Hallandale Beach Commission voted and approved the selection of Interim City Manager/ CRA Executive Director Jeremy Earle, Ph.D., AICP, FRA-RA to serve as the new Hallandale Beach City Manager. The City Attorney will negotiate an employee contract agreement for Dr. Earle, which will be presented during an upcoming Commission meeting.

Dr. Earle joined the City of Hallandale Beach in May 2017 as Assistant City Manager and has been serving as Interim City Manager since being appointed by the Commission on August 12th, 2020. He has also served as the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency’s Executive Director since January 2019.

‘He hit the ground running.” said Mayor Joy Cooper during his appointment discussion, “He continues to strive to right this ship, to be open and transparent.

“It has been a real pleasure working with Dr. Earle.” said Vice Mayor Michael Butler.

“He’s uniquely qualified to do this job as a City Manager/ Executive CRA Director – there is not another person that exists who is more qualified.”

2020 could have been my best year, but December 26th, 2020 at 10:20 p.m., my very best friend Aye Aranee, was murdered! Shot 4 times in the parking lot of her apartment complex, Sheridan Lakes, located at 321 East Sheridan Street, Dania Beach, Florida 33004 at 10:30 p.m.

2020 was the very first time in 28 years in the USA, I got over 4 months vacation in a year!

Making a lot less money, but, having so much more fun with family & close friends living on the beach! We just had her Funeral Ceremony on January 27th 2021. This coming week, we will be sending her ashes to her parents & 2 sisters in Thailand! A very SAD End of her American Dream!

In Europe, for accident prevention, there are CCTV Cameras with TAG Readers at every light intersection! Here NONE!

Aye Aranee was followed on Sheridan Street, her killer drove away on Sheridan Street going westbound! Which means with cameras at the lights at the intersection of Sheridan Street & U.S. - 1, the white Nissan Maxima with a black roof top & after market rims passed by twice, going eastbound & going westbound.

The same senseless murder would have happened in 27 Countries in Europe & /Japan/ Singapore/China/Australia.

By 11:30 p.m. on December 26th, 2020, the police would have sent an “Amber/Red Alert” with the car’s tag & model all over the state! Here, in Dania Beach, Florida, 48 days later, the best the police could get is that the killer drove a White Nissan Maxima 2009-2014!

With CCTV & tag readers on each street light intersection, not only my best friend’s killers would have been caught & taken out of the community for life in 36 countries, in 48 hours. For every traffic accident that often happens at intersections, the police would have had video proof of what really happened!

But, here, in the USA, the killer of my best friend is still free 48 days after her brutal murder!

How in a City/County/State/

At the onset of grief, a survivor needs nurturing support through the comforts and love found within their intimate circle of family and longtime friends.

The survivor’s vulnerable state of mind, soul, weakened personal and physical strength, damage their ability to discern good from evil intentions toward them, expose them to manipulations that they would otherwise be able to recognize and resist.

These are precisely the reasons why survivors are counseled to delay any financial or life altering decisions, if possible, to a later time. Preferably, that time will be when they have recovered their organizational gifts, powers of discernment and customary levels of functionality.

Assuming the survivor’s network of family and longtime friends is comprised of willing and functional supporters; the most effective support and assistance will be offered and found within this group. By virtue of their shared history, this group will intuitively understand the survivor’s unspoken needs and provide a more personal level of assistance than any other outside source. Moreover, their assistance will be blanketed in love and deep concern for the

Selling a home, moving to another city, or changing jobs or professions, are all better put off to some later date if possible. survivor. Complicated grief is a con-

dition whereby the survivor may be affected physically, mentally and/or socially. Without appropriate treatment, complications may include depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviors, anxiety (including PTSD), significant sleep disturbances, increased risk of physical illness (including, but not limited to heart disease, cancer or high blood pressure), long-term difficulty with daily living (including self-care, personal or professional relationships, as well as work responsibilities), self-medicating (including alcohol, nicotine use, over the counter or prescription drug mis-

use, illegal substance misuse), severe eating, anger management or behavioral disorders.

Friends and family are not at all equipped to handle these issues.

These issues necessitate the hasty intervention of licensed professionals. If left untreated by the properly licensed professionals, these issues may lead to the survivor’s death.

Grief is an intimate ailment of the soul. Without recovery, a survivor’s will and ability to continue living are severely compromised.

Survivors must find and restore their soul’s inner peace. They must be at liberty to explore and

Tom and Artos proudly served with a city located in southern Broward County, Florida from 2013 until 2019, when Artos was retired. During his time in service, Artos helped apprehend countless violent criminals, located many illegal firearms and earned his city over $11 million dollars in seized currency/assets.

He truly is a remarkable Police Service Dog that selflessly put himself between citizens and the

criminal element. Once retired, Artos began living the “good life.” Sadly, in October of 2020,

Artos became sick and was ultimately diagnosed with B Cell Small and Large Cell Lymphoma. After multiple tests to determine the best treatment for Artos, it was decided that he would undergo 15 weeks of Chemotherapy Treatment followed by Immunization Therapy.

This team is committed to battling this disease to the end with the same tenacity they had when defending the innocent, but as you can imagine, it’s going to be very costly.

Unfortunately, the city which employed Artos and Tom, have no provisions in the policy to pay for Artos’ treatment, once he was retired. Due to this, the treatment costs fall on Tom to cover. During these trying times, it’s hard enough for a single Police Officer to make ends meet and much more difficult when faced with thousands of dollars in Cancer treatment bills. The Time Has Come To Move Forward Dr. Jeremy Earle At The Helm - Righting The Ship

At our last commission meeting, I requested an item to be discussed, the formal hiring of a new City Manager. We have had an Interim for over 6 months. The past six months have been unprecedented for many reasons.

Obviously, COVID-19 struck, but it has been unprecedented for City operations and our leadership.

Last year, during COVID-19, our budget and elections were handled by City Manager, Greg Chavarria, who has since resigned. Our City commission was notified that he would be taking an offer in Fort Lauderdale. The moment that happened, I stepped up and approached both of our Assistant City Managers, Kevin Klopp and Dr. Jeremy Earle, who are both excellent leaders with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Dr. Earle wanted the opportunity to serve as Interim City Manager.

Dr. Earle has been at the helm, righting the ship for over 6 months. It has been so busy and fluid over the past months, with the holidays and Dr. Earle’s family health issues, I had to put off discussing the hiring of a new City Manager until I had a chance to discuss the position

with him. Under normal conditions, there would have been a very different process. Ideally, we would have done a search, had a selection process where many residents and business partners could participate. Due to COVID19 and the exceptional performance of Dr. Earle over the past months, the time has come to move forward.

The City commission are all on the same page, that we should move forward. We voted to hire Dr. Earle and bring back an item for a contract. I requested that when the item is brought forward, we share Dr. Earle’s curriculum vitae, so our residents and business partners have a chance to get to know him. The contract will be negotiated over the next two weeks and will be placed on the agenda for February 17th, 2021.

In other business, the commission voted to approve the final design of Sunrise Park.

Sadly, I had to vote against the plan as it excluded the placement of a small splash pad and included the building of a hill.

The splash pad was overwhelming requested during public workshops. The cost would have added $250,000 dollars, which could have come from the cost savings from the last few parks

that were under budget and a Florida State Park Grant that was over $200,000. The maintenance was estimated between $15,000 and $50,000 annually, with the higher number being replacement of pumps. The hill, frankly, I think is a total waste of money that could also go towards the splash pad. If you agree with me, I encourage you to contact your commissioners to recognize this.

Over the past weeks, there have been FPL crews out working on Hallandale Beach Boulevard. They are in the process of hardening the electric grid, you may have noticed this activity and seeing the traffic impacts.

The process includes: replacing wooden poles with concrete. The old poles will not be removed until the other utilities are transferred by AT&T and other providers which will be impacting traffic.

There are other plans in the works that will at first impact traffic adversely, but in the end, it will improve the flow of traffic.

Hallandale Beach Boulevard is slated to be one of the main corridors to receive, what is called: An Intelligent Transportation System. This system links traffic signals directly to the main control system. Operations will be able to adjust signals in real time.

It will be able to adapt to traffic patterns.

Currently, the system is connected, but can only be reset via computers, hourly. This was implemented over five years back in what was called: The “Go Green” Project. You may think nothing happened when you are in rush hour, but, the lights are timed to be green and go red, based on the speed limits. The boxes at the intersection, can also be timed to adjust to the time of day.

Over the years, we continue to try and improve traffic, but, there will always be traffic. In south Florida, we have the two most populated Counties in Florida. Over 5.7 million people reside here. That does not include visitors. So, complaining about traffic is so futile. It was interesting to see residents start to complain about traffic, when we started reopening. I am personally, so happy to see things getting back to being somewhat normal. When I see the traffic, it reminds me of the months of empty roads and stay at home isolation.

Let’s be clear about one thing: the impeachment of Donald Trump is a waste of time and money.

Impeaching Trump will accomplish very little, and it will not in any way improve the plight of the average American. It will only reinforce the spectacle and farce that have come to be synonymous with politics today.

While the nation allows itself to be distracted by yet more bread-and-circus politics, the American kakistocracy (a government run by unprincipled career politicians and corporate thieves that panders to the worst vices in our nature and has little regard for the rights of the people) continues to suck the American people into a parallel universe in which the Constitution is meaningless, the government is all-powerful, and the citizenry are powerless to defend themselves against government agents who steal, spy, lie, plunder, kill, abuse and generally inflict mayhem and sow madness on everyone and everything in their sphere.

So here’s what I propose: let’s impeach the Deep State and its cabal of government operatives from every point along the political spectrum (right, left and center) for conspiring to expand the federal government’s powers at the expense of the citizenry.

We’ve been losing our freedoms so incrementally for so long—sold to us in the name of national security and global peace, maintained by way of martial law disguised as law and order, and enforced by a standing army of militarized police and a political elite determined to maintain their powers at all costs—that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when it all started going downhill, but we’re certainly on that downward trajectory now, and things are moving fast.

Even now, we are being pushed and prodded towards a civil war, not because the American people are so divided but because that’s how corrupt governments control a populace (i.e., divide and conquer).

These are dangerous times.

These are indeed dangerous times but not because of violent crime, which remains at an alltime low, or because of terrorism, which is statistically rare, or because the borders are being invaded by foreign armies, which data reports from the Department of Homeland Security refute, or because a pandemic is spreading like a contagion, or even because raging mobs of so-called domestic terrorists are trying to overthrow elections.

No, the real danger that we face comes from none other than

the U.S. government and the powers it has granted to its standing armies to rob, steal, cheat, harass, detain, brutalize, terrorize, torture and kill American citizens with immunity.

The danger “we the people” face comes from masked invaders on the government payroll who crash through our doors in the dark of night, shoot our dogs, and terrorize our families.

This danger comes from militarized henchmen on the government payroll who demand absolute obedience, instill abject fear, and shoot first and ask questions later.

This danger comes from greedy, power-hungry bureaucrats on the government payroll who have little to no understanding of their constitutional limits.

This danger comes from greedy politicians and corporations for whom profit trumps principle.

This danger comes from a surveillance state that grows more and more ominous.

Consider, if you will, all of the dastardly, devious, diabolical, dangerous, debilitating, deceitful, dehumanizing, demonic, depraved, dishonorable, disillusioning, discriminatory, dictatorial schemes inflicted on “we the people” by a bureaucratic, totalitarian regime

that has long since ceased to be “a government of the people, by the people and for the people.”

Americans have no protection against police abuse.

Americans are little more than pocketbooks to fund the police state.

Americans are no longer innocent until proven guilty.

Americans no longer have a right to self-defense.

Americans no longer have a right to private property.

Americans are powerless in the face of militarized police.

Americans no longer have a right to bodily integrity.

Americans no longer have a right to the expectation of privacy.

Americans can no longer rely on the courts to mete out justice.

Americans no longer have a representative government.

We have moved beyond the era of representative government and entered a new age, let’s call it the age of authoritarianism. In fact, a study conducted by Princeton and Northwestern University concluded that the U.S. government does not represent the majority of American citizens. Instead, the study found that the government is ruled by the rich and powerful, or the so-called “economic elite.”

Moreover, the researchers concluded that policies enacted by this governmental elite nearly

It is not overstating matters to say that Congress, which has done its best to keep their unhappy constituents at a distance, may well be the most self-serving, semi-corrupt institution in America.

In other words, we are being ruled by an oligarchy disguised as a democracy, and arguably on our way towards fascism: a form of government where private corporate interests rule, money calls the shots, and the people are seen as mere subjects to be controlled.

Rest assured that when and if fascism finally takes hold in America, the basic forms of government will remain: Fascism will appear to be friendly. The legislators will be in session.

There will be elections, and the news media will continue to cover the entertainment and political trivia. Consent of the governed, however, will no longer apply. Actual control will have finally passed to the oligarchic elite controlling the government behind the scenes.

Sound familiar?

History may show that from this point forward, we will have left behind any semblance of constitutional government and entered into a totalitarian state where all citizens are suspects and security trumps freedom.

Even with its constantly shifting terrain, this topsy-turvy travesty of law and government has become America’s new normal.

From Clinton to Bush, Obama to Trump, and now Biden, it’s as if we’ve been caught in a time loop, forced to re-live the same thing over and over again: the same assaults on our freedoms, the same disregard for the rule of law, the same subservience to the Deep State, and the same corrupt, self-serving government that exists only to amass power, enrich its shareholders and ensure its continued domination.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, the powers-that-be want us to remain distracted, divided, alienated from each other based on our politics, our bank accounts, our religion, our race and our value systems.

Yet as George Orwell observed, “The real division is not between conservatives and revolutionaries but between authoritarians and libertarians.”

This new small business lending program will provide flexible, low-cost capital for existing businesses, as well as new start-up businesses in the BMSD. The Hallandale Scholarship Fund Scholarship Applications Are Now Being Accepted What is The Hallandale Scholarship Fund? FirstYear College Scholarships are awarded for the benefit of deserving Hallandale Beach residents who are students at Hallandale High School and all surrounding area High Schools.

In 1960, Mrs. Chester Norteman attended Class Night at South Broward High School and was disappointed when not one civic or service organization from Hallandale Beach appeared on the stage to present an award to a Hallandale student.

Mother of a graduate, she realized how much an award of even $100 (then) would mean to a student planning to work their way through college. To arouse interest in scholarships, she wrote to the organizations in town saying “discuss it, give it some thought and perhaps, take some action.”

In September 1960, S. Lee Crouch, President of the Hallandale Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, urged by Ross Amos, invited all Hallandale civic and service organizations to form a Council of their Presidents or Representatives to serve as a clearinghouse for community projects and a vehicle for cooperative action. At the October meeting of the newly formed Hallandale Community Council, Ernie Pinto, Kiwanis representative, suggested scholarships as a Council project. After meeting with Frank Schwall, Guidance Counselor at South Broward High School, the Council named its first Scholarship Fund Committee: Charles Knorr, Edna Norteman, Betty Sapienza, Theresa Wipple and Chairman Pinto.

Donations from twelve organizations netted $400 that year and the first award was presented by President Ernie Pinto to Richard Sullivan on June 7, 1961.

Since then, the Hallandale Community Council Scholarship Fund (as it was known) has rec-

ognized the achievements and promises of hundreds of Hallandale Beach resident graduates with financial awards ranging from $100 to $5000 each, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. Plaques are awarded to Honor Cord Graduates (many who do not have a need for financial assistance).

Students apply for scholarships through the aid of the Guidance Counselors at their own schools. In turn, the Counselors provide the Committee with additional information, cumulative average, extracurricular activities, results of achievement, aptitude and college entrance tests. The choice of school is left to the student, but the Committee requires that his or her application be accepted and the student enrolled, before any funds are disbursed.

Scholarship students have attended local community colleges, state and private universities across the country (including Harvard) and such foreign universities as Universidad de las Americas and Columbus International in Spain. Some students also receive financial help for continued studies in vocational/trade schools.

Usually, scholarships are for the first year of advanced education. If a student proves to be good college material during his or her first year, supplemental financial assistance is available to continue.

In 2009, the Hallandale Community Council Scholarship Fund, Inc. became the Hallandale Scholarship Fund, Inc. and continues to provide scholarship awards to graduating residents of Hallandale Beach in area high schools.

Broadway In Miami Returns This Fall Given the positive news and reports from Broadway touring industry organizations, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) and Broadway Across America (@bwayamerica) are anticipating the return of live Broadway programming to Miami in the fall of 2021. The 15th season showcases the best of touring Broadway in the Ziff Ballet Opera House, including the following productions: Hadestown September 28th - October 3rd, 2021 Hairspray Dec. 28th, 2021 - January 2nd, 2022 Dear Evan Hansen February 15th - February 20th, 2022 Anastasia March 22nd - March 27th, 2022 Jesus Christ Superstar May 31st – June 5th, 2022

The new Broadway in Miami season is presented by Florida Theatrical Association in association with the Adrienne Arsht Center along with support from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
