CITY NEWS Free Face Masks Aventura: At All Miami-Dade Public Library Locations Miami-Dade County is providing free face masks at all 50 Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) locations. We have contacted the Aventura Branch location and as of the beginning of September, they still had a supply of masks available. This mask distribution initiative is aimed at helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19, ensure that residents in need of masks have easy access to obtain them and ensure compliance with Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 20-20, which requires that all persons in Miami-Dade County wear a mask or other facial covering when in public spaces both indoors and outdoors. Those who need a face mask can stop by any MDPLS location entrance to request and pick up masks, which will be available for as long as supplies last. For a complete list of library locations and operating hours, visit: mdpls.org/ branches. Or call: (305) 375-2665. Evidence for Effectiveness of Masks Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and
onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role of respiratory droplets and how they play a roll in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that show that masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of masks is particularly important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult to maintain. The CDC’s recommendations for masks will be updated as new scientific evidence becomes available. Who Should Wear A Mask? The CDC recommends all people 2 years of age and older wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. COVID-19 can be spread by people who
do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to wear masks in public settings and practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people). While masks are strongly encouraged to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the CDC recognizes that there are specific instances when wearing a mask may not be feasible. In these instances, adaptations and alternatives should be considered whenever possible. In some situations, wearing a mask may exacerbate a physical or mental health condition, lead to a medical emergency, or introduce significant safety concerns. Adaptations and alternatives should be considered whenever possible to increase the feasibility of wearing a mask or to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 if it is not possible to wear one. People who are deaf or hard of hearing, or those who care for or interact with a person who is hearing impaired, may be unable to wear masks if they rely on lipreading to communicate. In this situation, consider using a clear mask. If a clear mask isn’t available, consider
whether you can use written communication, use closed captioning or decrease background noise to make communication possible while wearing a mask that blocks your lips. People who are engaged in high intensity activities, like running, may not be able to wear a mask if it causes difficulty breathing. If unable to wear a mask, consider conducting the activity in a location with greater ventilation and air exchange (for instance, outdoors versus indoors) and where it is possible to maintain physical distance from others. Masks are a critical preventive measure and are most essential in times when social distancing is difficult. If masks cannot be used, make sure to take other measures to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. The Aventura Public Library Branch is located at 2930 Aventura Blvd, if you would like to check availability of FREE masks call: (305) 931-5512.

2020 Census Has A New Deadline: Aventura Is Counting On You To Ensure Federal Funding Completing the Census has been revised to September 30, 2020. All residents of Aventura are encouraged to participate to ensure that federal funding and proper planning for infrastructure and resources are available. Help shape the future! Complete your 2020 Census. Why Is The Census Important? The 2020 Census will provide a snapshot of our nation; Who are we? Where do we live? And so much more. The results of this once-a-decade count determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives. They are also used to draw congressional and state legislative districts. Over the next decade, lawmakers, business owners and many others will use the 2020
offices, where to expand operations, where to recruit employees and which products and services to offer. You can complete the Census in three ways: Online: my2020census.gov By Phone: 1-844-330-2020 (English) OR 1-844-468-2020 (Spanish)
Census data to make critical decisions. The results will show where communities need new: schools, clinics, roads, more services for families, older adults and children. The results will also inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allo-
cated to more than 100 programs, including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. The U.S. Constitution mandates that the country count its
population once every 10 years. The results are used to adjust or redraw electoral districts, based on where populations have increased or decreased. Business owners rely on census results to make decisions, such as where to open new stores, restaurants, factories or
By Mail: Most households received their invitation to respond to the 2020 Census in March. Or e-mail: covid@CitiMED.com for further support. The CitiMED COVID Testing Registration Link is https://testing.citimed.com/ registration/ Testing is offered weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until further notice. For large groups
of over 10 people, CitiMED mobile unit is available for onsite testing at most commercial or residential locations in Aventura on all other days. For any questions regarding group testing, please contact them at: 1 (844) 424-8463. CDC Considerations For Who Should Get Tested The CDC recommends people who have had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with someone with confirmed COVID-19 or who has symptoms of COVID-19 get tested. Not everyone needs to be tested. If you do get tested, you should self-quarantine/isolate at home pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider or a public health professional.
efficiently than the Influenza, but, not as efficiently as measles, which is highly contagious. In general, the more closely a person interacts with others and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 can be spread. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. You can take steps to slow the spread by maintaining good social distance (about 6 feet). This is very important in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others.
The Virus Spreads Easily Between People How easily a virus spreads from person-to-person can vary. Some viruses are highly contagious, like measles, while other viruses do not spread as easily. Another factor is whether the spread is sustained, which means it goes from person-toperson without stopping. Information from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic suggests that this virus is spreading more
People at Increased Risk As you get older, your risk for severe illness from COVID-19 increases. For example, people in their 50’s are at a higher risk for severe illness than people in their 40’s. Similarly, people in their 60’s or 70’s, in general, are at a higher risk for severe illness than people in their 50’s. The greatest risk for severe illness from COVID-19 is among those aged 85 or older. Severe illness means that the person with
COVID-19 may require hospitalization, intensive care, a ventilator to help them breathe, they may even die. There are also other factors that can increase your risk for severe illness, such as having underlying medical conditions. By understanding the factors that put you at an increased risk, you can make decisions about what kind of precautions to take in your daily life. In general, your risk of getting severely ill from COVID-19 increases as you get older. In fact, 8 out of 10 COVID19-related deaths reported in the United States, have been among adults aged 65 years and older. Reduce your risk of getting COVID-19 It is especially important for people at ab increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and those who live with them, to protect themselves from getting COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself and to help reduce the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 is to limit your interactions with other people as much as possible. You must take precautions to prevent getting COVID-19 when you do interact with others. If you start feeling sick and think you may have COVID-19, get in touch with your healthcare provider within 24 hours.
Venturing Out Into a Public Setting As communities and businesses across the United States are opening, you may be thinking about resuming some activities, running errands, attending events and gatherings. There is no way to ensure you have zero risk of infection, so it is very important to understand the risks and know how to be as safe as possible. People at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and those who live with them, should consider their level of risk before deciding to go out and ensure they are taking steps to protect themselves. Consider avoiding activities where taking protective measures may be difficult, such as activities where social distancing can’t be maintained. Everyone should take steps to prevent getting and spreading COVID-19 to protect themselves, their communities and people who are at an increased risk of severe illness. In general, the more people you interact with, the more closely you interact with them and the longer that interaction, the higher your risk is of getting and spreading COVID-19. Masks should be worn over the nose and mouth. Masks are especially important when it is difficult to stay at least 6 feet apart from others or when people are indoors to help protect each other. Wearing a mask helps protect others in case you’re infected, while others wear one to protect you, should they be infected. Risk Level of An Event or Gathering If you are at an increased risk for severe illness, you should consider avoiding high-risk gatherings. The risk of COVID-19 spreading at events and gatherings increases, use the following guide to assess the risk level. Lowest Risk - Virtual-only activities, events and gatherings. More Risk - Smaller outdoor and in-person gatherings in which individuals from different

Why Is Now The Best Time To Treat Your Varicose Veins?
(L) VenaSeal™ differs from traditional vein treatments in the way it quickly causes occlusion within the vein. Treatments take only 20-30 minutes each. (R) One of the most effective treatments for large varicose veins with a success rate of 98 -100 percent, endovenous laser ablation involves inserting a very thin laser fiber through the affected vein via a needle so there is normally no scar or incision and requires no sutures. If you are ready to treat your varicose veins, you’re likely tired of their unsightly appearance or, more importantly, want to rid yourself of them for good so that they don’t cause deeper health problems down the line. Why is now the best time to treat your varicose veins or venous insufficiency? Well, with Covid, people are going out less, travelling less, working from home more and more able to wear compression hose and not care about the down time or bruising that though minimal, may interfere with normal life. Life is not normal at the moment and with this slower pace of life, people have more opportunity to take the time to treat themselves. As well, most people have met their deductibles by this point in the year and the vein treatments are often covered by insurance or can be funded through health spending accounts which will be lost if they are not used. Whatever the reason, treating your varicose veins means getting to know the different varicose vein removal procedures at Fox Vein & Laser Experts, South Florida’s best vein removal center. When you’re ready to undergo treatments for vein
removal, it’s likely that you’ve already done your research. You’ve probably looked up the best vein removal treatment centers in south Florida and asked the basics like, “Are laser vein removal treatments effective?” “Wiil they hurt?” “For years now, I’ve come across hundreds of patients who would visit our office feeling apprehensive about their vein removal treatments,” Dr. Susan Fox, owner and founder of Fox Vein & Laser Experts says. “They don’t realize that by treating their veins, they may be opening up their world to a range of benefits and overall improved health.” Providing you relief, both physically and aesthetically, from your varicose veins, has been a passion of ours for as long as we’ve been in business. We know how important feeling and looking good is to your daily routine, which is why we have a multitude of ways to treat your leg veins once and for all. “We want to ensure that no matter your age, skin type, or vascular issues, there is a way for your legs to be restored to good health,” Dr. Susan Fox says. “The reason why we have so many different varicose vein treatments is because there are many different types of veins and we like to be
specific to get you the best results. First, it’s important to know whether the bluish, purplish veins that you see on your legs are in fact, varicose veins. A lot of times, people confuse the more severe varicose veins with the less obvious spider veins that are pretty common as well. Varicose veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels that twist and turn. They usually develop in the legs and can be seen or felt through the skin. Spider veins are smaller, red and blue vessels that also twist and turn but are tiny. Spider veins are easily visible through the skin, as well but are very small and often fan out in arcs. What most people don’t know, however, is that both spider veins and varicose veins are often connected. Self magazine reports, “Patients who have varicose veins almost always have spider veins, too. However, some people get spider veins and never have a problem with varicose veins.” Whichever the ones you have, both can cause symptoms. Around sixty percent of people with only spider veins have symptoms of burning, aching, itching throbbing or other symptoms. Almost 90 percent of people with varicose veins have symptoms of
swelling, aching, burning, throbbing, skin discoloration or hardening of the skin and even ulcerations on their ankles or legs. Now that we’ve cleared that up (pun intended) let’s take care of those legs! Here are the different varicose vein treatment options available at Fox Vein & Laser Experts: Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA/EVLT) One of the most effective treatments for large varicose veins with a success rate of 98 100 percent, endovenous laser ablation involves inserting a very thin laser fiber through the affected vein via a needle hole that typically involves no incisions and leaves no scar and requires no sutures. Small pulses of laser energy are delivered as the fiber is pulled through the vein, gently heating it and causing it to collapse and seal shut. During the treatment process, the blood from these veins is redirected to better and more competent veins and the insufficient veins become shrunken scars that fade over time. Sounds perfect? Wait, it gets better. These kinds of procedures can be done in just a 30-minute
window of time and there is little to no down time afterwards. In studies, around 50% of people had no pain afterwards and most only described it as a two to four on a scale of 1 to 10. The pain usually is relieved by a little ibuprofen or naproxen for a few days and you can return to most normal activities immediately. Varithena Ideal for smaller, less obtrusive veins, foam sclerotherapy is a safe and effective vein removal technique. During traditional sclerotherapy, a medicated solution is injected directly into the affected veins. When injected as a foam rather than a liquid, the solution can target some of the larger, underlying varicose veins that cannot typically be treated with sclerotherapy. The foam irritates the lining of the vessel walls for longer and pushes the blood out of the way, causing them to stick together and close shut, rerouting the blood through healthy veins. While you may feel a sting at the injection site, foam sclerotherapy is not considered a painful technique and is minimally invasive. We perform it under ultrasound guidance and direct it into the

CITY NEWS person is afraid of needles, laser is an option and we have cutaneous lasers as well, that remove these tiny red veins without much difficulty. The laser uses light pulses to heat the vein and scar them shut. For the tiny and unsightly facial veins or miniscule red veins, we also have a machine called the VeinGogh which uses microbursts of energy to close shut teeny veins without any down time or scarring. This procedure often seals the tiny veins over a few days to weeks and can be done in a few sessions often with amazing results.
VARICOSE VEINS? Continued From Pg 14 problematic vein watching everything as we are doing it. The person has no down time, usually no to minimal pain and only needs to stay active and wear compression hose afterwards. VenaSeal This is a great non-surgical approach to removing your varicose veins. VenaSeal™ attempts to treat veins by fostering a clot to form by injecting a crazy gluelike substance into the vein. It causes the vein walls to adhere and seal shut. As long as no one has had an allergic reaction to crazy glue or surgical glues, this is an option for the treatment of veins.
Dr. Susan B. Fox, DO RPVI, FSVM is board certified in vascular medicine, phlebology, internal medicine and has been a vein and laser expert for decades. She and her staff are experts in Laser treatments.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy A surgical approach to removing larger and more troublesome veins, ambulatory phlebectomy is an in-office procedure that requires local anesthesic (think lidocaine like at the dentist). The veins are teased out through the small holes without
causing any major scarring or requiring major surgery, which is a significant advancement from the extensive vein stripping procedures of the past. Most often this is done with pinholes that don’t even need to be closed with sutures. Although this procedure
requires small incisions in the skin, most patients return to normal activities immediately afterward without any necessary recovery time. Spider Vein Removal Often, spider vein removal is cosmetic even though they may
cause symptoms. The gold standard is sclerotherapy where a solution is injected into the vein with a teeny-tiny needle and the vein lining gets irritated and gradually seals shut closing off that tiny vein over several weeks. It often takes several sessions for all of the veins to go away. If a

This order rescinds Emergency Order: 23-20 and 26-20, replaces those orders with Emergency Order 28-20, along with the orders’ amendments. Among other provisions, Emergency Order: 28-20 allows indoor dining restaurants to operate at 50% capacity, with a six person maximum at a table, social distancing and facial coverings. Restaurants are required to run their HVAC systems with the fans “on” while people are in the establishments and to keep doors and windows open to maximize the circulation of fresh air. Casinos will also be allowed to re-open, following the same rules they previously followed, but adding the restrictions that consumption of food and beverages can only take place in areas designated for eating.
