Balancing Growth, Prudence And Excellence Navigating The Fiscal Landscape: The City Of Aventura’s Budget For Fiscal Year 2023/2024 As the sun sets over the picturesque cityscape of Aventura, residents and visitors alike can appreciate the commitment of their local government to maintaining the highest quality of life possible. Aventura, known for its luxury living, world-class shopping, and vibrant community, has long prided itself on being a city of excellence. In the pursuit of this mission, the City of Aventura has recently adopted its budget for the fiscal year beginning October 1st, 2023, and it carries some important insights and challenges.

OCTOBER 2023 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 10

A Record Of Fiscal Responsibility A key highlight of the budget is the decision by the City Commission to maintain the Tax Rate at 1.7261, the same rate as the previous year. This decision reflects Aventura’s commitment to providing Cost-Effective Services to its residents while ensuring fiscal sustainability. It’s worth noting that this marks the 28th consecutive year without a Tax Rate Increase, a testament to the city’s strong fiscal policies. However, the financial landscape is not without its challenges. On July 1st, 2023, the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser delivered some interesting news: Aventura had experienced a 10.01% increase in property values compared to the prior year. This surge in property values, driven by a booming housing market and new construction in 2023, marked the second such increase in the last five years. Economic Uncertainty Looms While the increase in property values is undoubtedly a positive sign for Aventura’s economy, it’s essential to remain vigilant. Economists are warning of impending headwinds in the form of surging inflation and interest rates, potentially leading to a recession. The repercussions of these economic dynamics are already felt in the city’s Budget, with significant increases in

parency in financial reporting.

expenditures such as Fuel, Repairs and Maintenance and Equipment. One notable factor impacting the Budget is the addition of approximately $22,440,000 from New Construction in 2023. As the city anticipates developments currently under construction to bolster its Tax Base, this additional Revenue could help offset future Service Demands. A Shift In Presentation One of the most significant changes in the Budget for Fiscal Year 2023/2024 is a shift in the accounting presentation of the

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Reserve. In previous years, the city displayed anticipated CIP Funding as a Gross Total. However, the Current and Future Budgets will present CIP needs as a Net Amount. This change in presentation has had a substantial impact, resulting in a decrease of ($12,803,505) or (91.43%) when compared to previous years. It’s important to note that this adjustment aims to provide greater clarity and trans-

Breaking Down The Numbers The Total Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2023/2024, including all Funds, Capital Outlay, and Debt Service (Net of Interfund Eliminations), stands at $63,420,036. This represents a significant reduction of $18,672,361 or 22.75% compared to the previous year’s amended Budget. This reduction is primarily attributed to the change in accounting presentation of the CIP Reserve. Breaking down the Budget further, operating expenditures account for $50,291,367, reflecting the costs associated with maintaining and delivering essential city services. Capital Outlay Expenditures and the CIP Reserve total $9,473,316 and $1,200,119, respectively, demonstrating a commitment to Infrastructure Improvement and Future City Development. Debt Service Expenditures, totaling $2,455,234, highlight the city’s responsibility to meet its financial obligations. As Aventura charts its course into the Fiscal Year 2023/2024, the city faces both opportunities and challenges. The commitment to maintaining existing service levels without raising the Tax Rate demonstrates a dedication to its residents’ Well-Being. However, the uncertain Economic Climate calls for prudence and conservatism in financial management. In the face of potential economic turbulence, Aventura’s strong fiscal policies, responsible budgeting, and dedication to excellence will continue to guide the city towards prosperity. It’s a delicate balancing act – one that keeps Aventura on the path to becoming not just a city of excellence, but also a model for responsible and sustainable urban governance.

Miami New Times recently lauded Chug’s as one of Miami’s “Top 100 Restaurants.”

Chug’s: A Coconut Grove Institution

OCTOBER 2023 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 18

First introduced in 2019 as an idiosyncratic pop-up, Chef/Owner Michael Beltran’s Chug’s Diner quickly became a Coconut Grove institution when it turned into a permanent brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2021. Beyond its rep as a bustling lunch spot, Chug’s Diner rose to a thing of legend by virtue of Beltran’s wildly-popular breakfast sandwich, cast iron pancake and hearty dinnertime fare. Just in time for fall and amid Hispanic Heritage Month, Beltran – the proudly Cuban-American talent behind Ariete Hospitality Group – has unveiled an extensive new menu and beverage list for the restaurant, which the Miami New Times recently lauded as one of Miami’s “Top 100 Restaurants.” Combined with the fact that the restaurant recently retained its Bib Gourmand from the hallowed Michelin Guide, there’s ample reason to visit Chug’s Diner. “I couldn’t be happier about how the city has embraced Chug’s and made it an all-day spot whether it’s for a meal, a cafecito and pastelito or a quick drink after work. The hope was that it would be the kind of place that locals could make their own. I hope the regulars enjoy the new menu items and the new folks give us a try.” To kick things off, what else but Breakfast? Naturally, favorites remain, including Beltran’s Bacon, the Breakfast Sandwich and Cast Iron Pancake. But new additions now demanding the spotlight include Phyllis’ Broccoli Breakfast Hash – Crispy Potato, Broccoli, Cheese Sauce Ritz

Cracker Crumble, Red onion, Parmesan, and Sunny Side Up Eggs; “The Springsteen” – House-Made Scrapple, Sharp American Cheese, and Sunny Side Egg on a Kaiser Roll; Smoked Salmon Platter – Latkes, Cumin-Lime Crema, Mojo Pickled Onions and Tomatoes; and on the sweeter side, Arroz Con Leche Blintz with Seasonal Fruit, among others. As a proper diner should, Chug’s breakfast is served all day. Brand new is a Snacks section, perfect as an appetizer or a midday pick-me-up. Standouts include House-Made Biscuits served with Apple Butter and Mojo Butter; Duck Croquetas with Orange Mustard, Pickled Onions and Crackers; Chicharron with Tamarind Mojo, Charred Green Beans and Herbs; and Maduros & Hush Puppies served with Cumin Lime Crema, Oli’s Pickles and Mojo Onions. Of course, Handhelds are held in great esteem. New offerings include The Diner Burger topped with Caramelized Onion, Mustard Aioli and Cooper Sharp American Cheese and a Pan Con Lechon with Pickled Mojo Onions, Tomato and Papitas. Those bemoaning the loss of the famous Chug Burger fear not; though it no longer resides permanently on the menu, every Thursday night the restaurant makes and sells this to-die-for carnivorous delight but supplies are limited and reserving a burger is not frowned upon. New Entrees include Plantain-Crusted Snapper with Arugula and Green Bean Salad, Cachucha Aioli and Mojo Onions; and Sazón Completa-Crusted Tuna with Charred

Green Beans, Tomato, Malta Eel Sauce and Hard-Boiled Egg. Also new, a ton of Sides ranging from Crispy Broccoli and Waxman Potatoes (in honor of Chef Jonathan Waxman) and Maduros, among others. Pastries are not to be missed here, whether it’s one of Chug’s Masterful Milkshakes (Guava and Mamey Batido with Maria Cookies, anyone?), a Pastelito by Miami’s own “Pastelito Papi” – aka Chef Gio Fesser, a longtime Beltran collaborator and HG Team Member; and BK Pie – Manjari Ganache, Caramelia Mousse, Whipped Crème Fraiche and House-Made “Dirt,” among others. From plates to glasses we go with many new drinks with three distinct vibes, each nodding to Chug’s dedication to all-day enjoyment. Rise & Shine-styled solutions to the morning blues include the Miami Mimosa with Mango, Pineapple, and Orange Juice; Banana Carajillo – Banana, Rum, Cacao, Café Cubano; and a Bloody Maria – Mezcal, Spicy Bloody Mary Mix, Lemon and Sazón Completa. Afternoon Delights include a Guava Gimlet; Guarapo Daiquiri and Whiskey & Coco – Whiskey, Coconut Water, Coconut Soda and Lemon. For

sunset and beyond, Stiff & Stirred is the ticket with two killer pours: the Flan Old Fashioned with aged Rum, Flan Almíbar (translation: Syrup) and Orange Bitters; and the F.I.G. – Fig and Guava Infused Bourbon, Campari and Sweet Vermouth. There is a full bar for traditionalists, an array of Non-Alcoholic Drinks including Cuban-American staples such as Jupina, Materva, and a collection of Coffees. Happy Hour is a thing at Chug’s and along with the new menu items and drinks, there is a revitalized Happy Hour Program. Every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to close, guests can enjoy $9 House Cocktails, a selection of $9 Wines by the glass and $5 Monopolio Beers. To eat, Chuggies Meals – think adult Happy Meals – that come with Fries and a Cookie and include the Lil Tone Chuggy – Shaved Iceberg, Chug Sauce and Pickles; Frita Chuggy – House Frita Patty, Mojo Ketchup and Papitas; and Doggie Chuggy – Frita Chili, Queso and Papitas. Plus, with any food purchase between 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., diners can enjoy a $.99 Martini. On top of all this, there’s a great grouping of Grab & Go options for those needing a bite or a Coffee Toot Sweet.

Chug’s, located in the heart of Coconut Grove at 3444 Main Highway, Suite#: 21, Miami, Florida 33133, is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are as follows: Monday to Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Abundant Municipal, Lot and Metered Parking is available. One Man’s Transformative Journey Losing 100-Plus Pounds Brad Roberts embarked on a weight loss journey that has since transformed his life

an upward spiral of momentum. Throughout his weight loss journey, Roberts faced challenges, like the fear of injecting a medication and the frustration of not seeing immediate results. The realtime, actionable direction by LifeMD affiliated providers was pivotal. For example, at the start of his journey, Roberts was hitting a weight loss plateau, so he reached out to his care team. In talking about his eating habits, it quickly became apparent he needed to fuel his body to avoid a metabolic slowdown. Opting for protein shakes, grilled chicken, and apples while ensuring appropriate caloric intake, he was down six pounds before the end of the week. Losing weight wasn’t just about improving physical health for Roberts; it was also about rebuilding his confidence and his relationships. He wanted to be an active, present father who participated in family photos, coached his kids’ sports teams, and attended important events without feeling self-conscious.

Roberts’ transformation has been so profound he’s inspired his family and close friends to join the program. His journey demonstrates that with the right support, medication, and determination, significant weight loss is within reach for many Americans. Roberts’ story is one of overcoming personal adversity, re-establishing selfconfidence, and reclaiming the joys of life. It’s about living the life you’ve imagined for yourself and your family. “For the first time in five years, I am standing next to my children in photos and I feel confident,” said Roberts. “Making a change is possible with the right team, the right medication and the right support behind you.” It’s a story that proves that it’s never too late to make a change for the better. (BPT) - Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and for Brad Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of LifeMD, one such twist was his unexpected weight gain after the loss of his father. However, his story is one of determination, resilience and ultimately, transformation. Roberts, still fit from his athletic college days and now a dedicated father of four, found solace in food during his late 30’s after his father passed away. “My father was my best friend,” said Roberts. “When I lost him, I started avoiding my life and internalized my sadness through eating.” His weight spiraled, leading to a loss of confidence and a dramatic change in lifestyle. Roberts decided to make a change when he realized the impact his weight was having on his family - his greatest priority. He was missing from family photos

due to a self-consciousness about his appearance, and friends and family were noticing his weight gain. He realized he wasn’t setting the healthy example he wanted for his children. Roberts decided to participate in a weight management program. Using LifeMD’s strong affiliated clinical network, combined with GLP-1s, a class of medications used for weight loss and Diabetes management, Roberts embarked on the weight loss journey that has since transformed his life. In his first month, Roberts lost 24 pounds. As he continued, his weight loss accelerated, and by June, he was down 60 pounds. As of this writing, Roberts has lost a total of 125 pounds, taken 12 inches off his waist, and decreased his Body Mass Index (BMI) from 41 to 28. While greatly exceeding the 15% average annual weight loss results of most GLP-1 users, Roberts attributes his incredible results to both GLP-1 medication and lifestyle changes, with the combination of the two creating

CITY NEWS your current sleep cycle, from struggling to fall asleep to tossing and turning during the night, then think about the ways you might be able to improve those hindrances. Make Adjustments Gradually Remember, changes don’t happen overnight. For many people, the solution is as simple as going to bed earlier. Rather than trying to make up that extra 30 minutes immediately, it’s often helpful to slowly adjust routines. Try starting your bedtime ritual 5 minutes earlier each night to work toward your goal. Set Aside Time To Unwind Despite the hectic nature of fall schedules, it’s important to prioritize time to unwind before bed. Whether it’s reading a book, meditating or finding another slowpaced activity you enjoy, a calming, screenless way to slow your mind may help you fall asleep quicker. Be Thoughtful About Light Exposure It may seem obvious, but too much light exposure (indoor and out) at night can cause sleep issues. Be mindful of your own comfort by ensuring TVs and computers are powered down, smartphones are set aside, outdoor lights are off and curtains are drawn. Keeping the room dark can make a big difference when trying to fall and stay asleep.

Track the sleep you’re getting now and pay attention to factors that may hinder your current sleep cycle

Six Tips To Get Sleep Back On Track Because our sleep schedules depend on the signals we send our bodies (“It’s not time to go to bed yet — there’s another episode of The Bachelor on), that means we can send our bodies signals to adjust our sleep schedules, too. Just because you’re in a rut of going to bed at 2 a.m. doesn’t mean you can’t change that! That means the light signals you send your brain, whether from sunlight or a glowing cell phone screen or TV, are some of the key factors that can either keep your sleep schedule on track, get it back on track, or throw it off significantly. “Sleep is supposed to help you live your day to the fullest,” Harris said. “There are smart behavioral shifts you can

make to maximize your sleep routine this fall, and sometimes that can include Melatonin Supplements. Harris recommends these easy tips to improve your sleep routine. Consider Sleep Cycle Changes Before trying to reset routines, consider the changes you’re hoping to make. Track the sleep you’re getting now and pay attention to factors that may hinder

Prioritize Your Wake-Up Routine That snooze button might be tempting, but those extra few minutes of sleep may do more harm than good. Ensure you wake up feeling refreshed by sticking to a consistent sleep cycle. Whether it’s a morning stretch or simply forcing your feet to hit the floor, prioritizing movement and exposure to light can help kickstart the day.

(Family Features) For many people, this time of year is about resetting routines and adjusting to a different pace of life. With fall and kids school activities in full swing, families should be intentional about their sleep routines to avoid missing the magical moments ahead. According to SleepScore, people lose an average of 15 1/2 hours of sleep (about 10 minutes each night) during summer months due to the “summer sleep slump.” Addressing this challenge, Natrol, a leading Sleep, Mood and Stress Supplement Brand, along with Behavioral Sleep Specialist Shelby Harris, intend to help people gain control over their sleep and mood to be more present each day.

Turn To A Drug-Free Sleep Aid Supplement If you follow consistently good bedtime habits but still have trouble falling asleep, try a low-milligram Melatonin Supplement, like those from Natrol, which are designed to help people sleep better so they can feel well-rested and ready to take on the day. “Melatonin is not a one-stop solution to help get your sleep back on track,” Harris said. “If you are taking Melatonin, finding a brand with USP Verified options, like Natrol’s 5MG Fast Dissolve Tablets, for example, is extremely important.”

Navigate Chronic Illness Adversities Organ Transplant Recipient Details Ways to Live a Joyful Life Amid Long-Term Adversity Navigating chronic illness can present more than its fair share of challenges, but with the right strategies and mindset, it is possible to lead a fulfilling and rewarding life. It is expected and perfectly okay to have difficult moments and turbulent emotions throughout sustained periods of adversity. Finding joy doesn’t mean ignoring the challenges that inevitably present but rather finding ways to thrive despite them. It means being patient with yourself, and remembering that even small, singular steps can ultimately lead to significant improvements in your overall well-being and joy in life. According to two-time Kidney transplant recipient (who has lived with Kidney Disease for one-third of his life) Gregory S. Works, author of “Triumph: Life on the Other Side of Trials, Transplants and Transformation,” here are some tactical ways to achieve that: Acceptance Accepting your condition is the first step towards effectively managing it. Acknowledge that your life might be different from what you initially imagined, but there are still many possibilities for happiness and fulfillment. Build a Support Network Surround yourself with understanding and caring individuals – family, friends, or support groups – who can provide emotional support and practical assistance when needed. Educate Yourself Learn as much as you can about your condition from reliable sources. Understanding your illness empowers you to make informed decisions about your treatment and lifestyle choices.

South Florida Pioneer Delivers Affordable VIP Care How ChenMed Transforms Health with Comprehensive Care Coordination healthiest lives,” said Steve Nelson, ChenMed President. “To truly provide them with whole person (value-based) care, we need to understand and address the practical issues that determine and directly impact the quality of their day-today living. This is a primary focus of ChenMed team members, including our patient advocates, social workers, nurse practitioners, and doctors, who make it their mission to learn of the burdens our patients face beyond their medical status and work together to remove them.”

Say Salomon, M.D., National Chief Medical Officer of hospital and community care for the ChenMed family of brands – including Chen Senior Medical Center – (pictured, left) loves to get to know and care for his patients.

Establishing Improved Health Outcomes through Primary Care Champions for making primary care the cornerstone of each patient’s healthcare journey, Chen doctors and care team members offer comprehensive and con-

tinuous support by nurturing enduring relationships with their patients. By developing deep familiarity with their patients’ medical histories, meeting with them on an ongoing and regular basis, and accessing their patients’ specialist records, Chen’s doctors and care teams cultivate an intimate understanding of medical history, social contexts and unique healthcare requirements – all to enable better care coordination. In situations where patients seek care from multiple specialists, Chen doctors can excel at synthesizing critical information, to provide an all-encompassing perspective on their patients’ health. This comprehensive insight leads to wellinformed care decisions and tailor-made care plans that account for the patient’s entire medical background. Harmonizing the Continuum of Care Health often becomes more complex as people age. So, it is important to understand that specialist doctors often lack the time to understand the important nuances in any patient’s complete medical records. This is precisely why Chen’s high-touch approach to primary care is so valuable to aging patients. Chen primary care providers (PCPs) stay at the forefront of connecting patients to various medical specialties. They forge seamless collaborations with specialists to guarantee a smooth handover of care, all while nurturing a shared understanding of each patient’s unique needs and aspirations. Each Chen doctor oversees the coor-

dination of appointment schedules; the sharing of pertinent medical records; and ensures efficient communication among providers throughout the healthcare system – all to benefit patients. They mastermind a continuum of care, that effectively reduces fragmentation, avoids redundant tests, and uplifts the overall quality of healthcare. Care coordination becomes even more imperative for patients grappling with chronic conditions that frequently necessitate the expertise of multiple specialists. Chen primary care clinicians function as the central pivot, aligning disparate treatment strategies and ensuring harmonious care delivery. They meticulously monitor the patient’s progress, adapting treatment plans as circumstances demand and extending consistent support. By integrating diverse medical specialties and services, Chen PCPs optimize the management of chronic conditions, leading to superior outcomes and increased patient satisfaction. Furthermore, owing to their enriched medical knowledge relative to the patients they serve, Chen PCPs establish networks with specialists, facilitating discussions about perplexing or ambiguous assessments and treatment plans. While patients might not have direct access to their specialists beyond scheduled appointments, Chen doctors diligently engage in peer-to-peer exchanges with specialists, clarifying the patient’s healthcare trajectory. “Many of our patients have had little access to the kind of medical care and services that all of us need to lead our

Elevating Patient Safety and Contentment Effective care coordination within the primary care realm is a catalyst for bolstering patient safety and enhancing their overall contentment. When doctors are armed with a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s healthcare odyssey, they are proficient in spotting potential care gaps and inconsistencies. They identify these issues and champion the patient’s cause, ensuring appropriate referrals, timely follow-ups, and judicious medication management. These proactive measures minimize the risk of medical errors, fostering a strong, trust-based relationship between the patient and their PCP. This, in turn, results in heightened satisfaction with the entire healthcare experience. The significance of care coordination within primary care has become an essential facet of healthcare. PCPs, acting as the central figures with access to specialist records, assume a distinctive role as the linchpin in orchestrating and managing diverse facets of the patient’s healthcare journey. By promoting collaboration, easing communication, and integrating care across various specialties, PCPs significantly contribute to the realization of seamless, patientcentric care. In an ever-evolving healthcare landscape, care coordination within primary care remains an enduring pillar for optimizing patient outcomes and elevating the overall quality of care. ChenMed remains deeply committed to care coordination within primary care. The company’s PCPs work to provide a unified healthcare experience for their patients rather than treating them as isolated components of a fragmented medical system. OCTOBER 2023 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 27

The healthcare landscape is in constant evolution, and one aspect that has gained tremendous importance in recent years is comprehensive care coordination. Primary care providers (PCPs) can play a pivotal role in patient care, acting as the central orchestrators of a patient’s healthcare voyage. To do this requires an orientation and a clinical infrastructure that enables them to be central figures in coordinating patient care across various medical specialties. For more than 35 years, Chen Senior Medical Centers have been providing highly personalized primary care to South Florida seniors and the company remains focused on addressing the unique healthcare needs of those in their golden years. Chen doctors and care teams serve a predominantly elderly population aged 65 and above, with a significant presence in underserved communities. By guiding eligible individuals to complete the Medicaid re-enrollment process within the specified deadlines for Florida, and by providing a variety of other vital services, Chen social workers and registered nurse case managers amplify the quality of clinical care provided by ChenMed clinicians. They help improve health outcomes and patient experience by making comprehensive care coordination a reality, including access to essential community resources crucial for their overall health and well-being. “We provide this service to supplement the unwinding efforts that are now underway and to make it as convenient as possible for the Medicaid-eligible seniors we serve to maintain their insurance,” said Dr. Say Salomon, ChenMed National Chief Medical Officer, hospital and community care. “Without it, they run the risk of facing unaffordable medical bills and losing access to programs they need to stay healthy and secure.”

Aventura Acknowledges World Mental Health Day To Promote Education, Treatment, Dialogue And Wellness Practices OCTOBER 2023 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 28

By Joyce R. Forchion - LOVE Aventura

If there were ever an appropriate time for global citizens to figuratively pause, join hands, and breathe a collective sigh of relief, then that moment would take place on World Mental Health Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) founded the Annual October 10 observance in 1992 to communicate the fundamental human right for all individuals to promote education, treatment, and dialogue optimizing Mental Health and Wellness practices while removing all societal stigmas attached to the discourse.

For the past 31 years, healthcare providers have recognized the pervasiveness of the “emotional trinity” that men and women are continuously plagued with at alarming rates– Stress, Anxiety, and Depression. Despite the efforts of policy makers and community leaders to spotlight the day of reflection, afflicted residents continue to suffer in silence while feeling the need to hide their pain in shame. “Some days, I feel as if I just can’t take it anymore. Inflation has taken its toll; simply stepping outside to face the world each morning seems to cost me $150.00 per

day. My bills are never ending, and the demands of my job always keep me up each night with worry,” shared one Aventura resident who asked to remain anonymous. “The weight is heavy; help seems limited. If I can continue to appear strong in front of my kids, I feel as if I’m winning. Truth be told, I’m really crumbling inside as I try to tackle so much pressure alone.” According to the United States Census Bureau, Aventura parents account for a portion of Miami-Dade County’s highest earners with an Average Annual

Care About People. Reassess your priorities. Sure; we’re all busy with overloaded work schedules and household responsibilities. However, it only takes a minute to care about someone else for a change. Text your out-oftown relative a birthday greeting or volunteer to take your senior neighbor to the grocery store. Let someone know that you’re thinking about them. Small heartfelt gestures are more memorable and meaningful than initially realized. Change Your Workplace Culture. The City of Aventura acknowledges World Mental Health Day as a united municipality, which will continue each year. Encourage your company’s Executive Leadership Team or Human Resources Department to prioritize this observance next year, along with supporting community impact programming available to all residents on a complimentary basis. LOVE, AVENTURA. A column celebrating the heart, soul and culture of our community.

Then total your must-pay bills and compare that amount to what you’re earning and cut anything that’s not a necessity that you’ve been relying on credit cards to keep up with. 4. Taking out payday loans Beware of payday loans. These short-term loans often have high interest rates and may cost you a lot of money. Other options you can consider before taking out a payday loan may be finding ways to earn extra income like driving for a ride sharing company or getting some part-time work, or saving money through strict budgeting and getting rid of those non-essentials (see above for more on that).

5 Bad Money Habits Hurting Your Financial Future most common bad money habits and offered actionable tips on how to avoid these pitfalls. 1. Writing off small purchases as insignificant While spending money on things like takeout or app subscriptions may seem minor, these purchases add up over time. Your coffee may only cost $4.99, but as a daily habit, it can become costly. If you add up these seemingly insignificant costs over a month or two you’ll get a clear picture of how much you’re spending. Additionally, while BOGO promotions may be appealing, if you don’t need the second item, don’t spend the extra money. 2. Gambling While you may not be a high-stakes poker player or spend hours at casinos, a regular lottery ticket

habit can mean you’re throwing away your hardearned money. Instead, try saving any money you might put into gambling and investing it into a higher interest savings account, which will add up quicker than you expect, especially if you keep adding to it. 3. Using credit cards to pay bills Paying bills with a credit card can work well if you’re paying your balance off in full each month. But, if you’re not paying your balance off in full each month, you may want to reconsider. The interest you’ll end up paying on the card will make your bills much more expensive. For example, if your credit card interest rate is around 20% and you have a $5,000 balance, it could take you around 11 years to pay this off with minimum payments. Plus, your total payments will end up

being around $8,417. To avoid getting into this situation, try listing out your regular expenses, categorizing which ones are absolute necessities (like rent, utilities and food) and which are not (like entertainment and APARTMENT FOR SALE

The good news is you’re not alone, and there are ways to break those habits and create better financial health for you and/or your family. According to a recent survey from OnePoll and National Debt Relief, LLC, over 60% of people in the U.S. claim to make poor decisions when it comes to money and 42% of people admit to having current financial struggles. That may be in part because most people either have information that they aren’t using in their dayto-day lives, or like over 20% of respondents, they need more information to help them learn better habits. It’s important to know that you’re not alone and there are steps you can take to create a better financial future for yourself or your family. At National Debt Relief, we understand the importance of not just helping people with their immediate debt situations, but also giving them the tools, skills and guidance they need to feel more confident and in control of their finances.” Need to break bad financial habits?
