The Aventura International Film Series presents The Divine Order on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. From writer-director Petra Volpe, this Winner of the Audience Award for Best Narrative Film at the Tribeca Film Festival tells the uplifting story of an unassuming and dutiful housewife living in the Swiss countryside as the issue of the women’s right to vote is about to be put before the male voters in 1971. Well-liked by everyone before she begins pugnaciously campaigning, she refuses to back down and convinces the women in her village to go on strike while she makes a few startling discoveries about her own liberation. Not rated, this film is shown in Swiss-German with English subtitles. The Aventura International Film Series presented by the City of Aventura is hosted by Shelly Isaacs who introduces the film and leads a post-screening discussion. Isaacs is founder, programmer and commentator for South Florida’s popular Café Cinematheque International programs. Isaacs holds a master’s degree in Media Ecology Studies from New York University, where he served as an adjunct professor in cultural studies. Presently, he teaches foreign-language film appreciation in the Life Long Learning Society at Florida Atlantic University and at Florida International University. Laser Vision Correction Is Changing Lives Dr. Stanley Braverman Continues To Help Make Vision Dreams Come True
Dr. Stanley Braverman and patient Irina Bashmakova, who has had problems with her eyes for as long as she can remember.
NOVEMBER 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 8
Hollywood - For as long as she can remember, Irina Bashmakova has had problems with her eyes. Wearing glasses since the second grade - and contacts since her early teens, the 30-year-old stay at home mother was very near sighted and was searching for laser surgery that would correct the problem and eliminate the glasses or contacts. While she had the problem, it wasn’t new to her family. Nearsightedness, or Myopia, as it is medically termed, is a vision condition in which people can see close objects clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred. People with Myopia can have difficulty clearly seeing a movie or TV screen or the whiteboard while they are in school. Irina found that Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea (the clear front cover of the eye) is too curved. As a result, the light entering the eye isn’t focused correctly, and distant objects look blurred. Because she realized that something needed to be done - Irina began asking around for the best area doctor and eye center. That is how she discovered the Braverman Eye Center and Dr. Stanley
Braverman. When she came in for her consultation, Irina was blown away by the new Hollywood office as well as everyone who was involved. It was something she never expected. “I remember reading about the patients who had different procedures done,” she recalled. “The one thing that I took away from those articles in the Sun Times Newspaper was how Dr. Braverman and his staff were talked about often for the way they handled each patient. That was a huge selling point and also made me feel so much at ease.” So, last October, after consulting with Dr. Braverman, who explained every facet of the procedure, Irina embarked on a journey that would eliminate the blurry vision and replace it with clear eyesight. It truly left her speechless. “All I could remember, after the surgery, when I had no problem seeing, that I started to cry,” she recalled. “It was the first time in my life that I could ever remember seeing so clearly. It was indeed life-changing.” As she recovered from the Laser Vision Correction (PRK) and felt better and bet-
ter every day, Irina was ready to recommend the procedure, Dr. Braverman, the professional staff and the state-of-theart facility, to anyone and everyone who would listen. “I can understand how people would be apprehensive about anything to do with their eyes,” she said. “But after everything I experienced, I would tell everyone to check it out. It has really made a difference in my life. What To Expect With Z-lasik Surgery All Laser Z-Lasik surgery is performed on a patient’s cornea, which provides most of the focusing power when light enters the eye. Topical anesthetic drops are applied to the eye. The surgeon first uses a special Ziemer LDV femtosecond laser to create a thin layer of corneal tissue that can be folded back (a corneal flap). Then, another type of laser (an Allegretto Eye-Q excimer laser) is used to reshape the underlying cornea, painlessly. After the excimer laser treatment, the corneal flap is repositioned and bonds back into place naturally. The corneal reshaping improves the focusing power of the
cornea. Although no one can promise patients “perfect” vision, most Laser Vision Correction patients with mild to moderate prescriptions with or without astigmatism, do achieve 20/20 or better vision. About Dr. Stanley Braverman Dr. Stanley Braverman is a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine’s Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He is also an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the Nova Southeastern School of Optometry and the official LASIK and Cataract Surgeon for the Florida Panthers. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Braverman, a board certified ophthalmologist, has been a medical researcher, and is the inventor of several eye surgical instruments, and author of many articles for medical journals. Dr. Braverman’s newly trademarked LACE™ procedure (Laser Assisted Cataract Extraction) provides the best possible cataract surgical results. He has lectured at professional

Urinary Incontinence is Curable after Prostate Cancer Treatment Surgical therapy should be considered in men with post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence (SUI) that persists beyond the first postoperative year, or even earlier in men with severe symptoms
Dr. Angelo Gousse is the lead surgeon as part of a research team at the University of Miami and Precision Medical Devices developing a novel artificial urinary sphincter based on blue tooth technology.
NOVEMBER 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 10
What is Urinary Incontinence? Urinary incontinence is estimated to affect 12–17% of US males, with increasing prevalence associated with aging. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is defined by the International Continence Society as the complaint of involuntary leakage on effort or exertion, or on sneezing or coughing. Prostate surgery or radiation are the most common cause of male stress urinary incontinence. The good news is there is hope for patients who often are suffering in silence. Surgical therapy should be considered in men with post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence (SUI) that persists beyond the first postoperative year, or even earlier in men with
severe symptoms. Other patients with severe urinary incontinence or with neurogenic bladder can also benefit from the treatment. The surgical device aims to prevent involuntary urinary leakage during storage by increasing bladder outlet resistance while allowing unimpeded flow during voluntary urination. The “Gold Standard” surgical treatment, to date, is the artificial urinary sphincter. How the Device Works? The artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) is a surgically implantable device used to restore urinary control in men. Most commonly, the device is implanted in men who have sphincter or valve muscle damage following
prostate surgery. The entire device is implanted inside the body in a brief outpatient surgical procedure lasting approximately one hour. With appropriate evaluation for the proper selection of candidates for the AUS, the long-term results in experienced hands are excellent. One of the leading artificial urinary sphincter implanters and authority in the country, Dr Angelo Gousse has performed more than 500 AUS implants, making him the number one implanter in Florida. Components and Function The AUS consists of three components: the cuff, which goes around the urethra, the pump, which goes inside the scrotum, and the balloon,
AMS 800 artificial urinary sphincter.
which holds the fluid for the device (see figure). The balloon is available in different pressure ranges and is filled with sterile salt water that is very safe even if it leaks. The device works hydraulically, with the cuff around the urethra staying closed at all times. When the person wants to urinate, the pump is squeezed and the cuff opens. Automatically, in 35 minutes, the cuff closes. Technique of Implantation In the Male Insertion of the AUS is performed in a hospital operating room under either a general or a spinal anesthetic. Two small incisions are made: one in the groin area and the other between the scrotum and the rectum. The properly measured size cuff is
placed around the urethra and the tubing from the cuff is passed up to the groin area. Recovery is less than 2 weeks. An Excellent Track Record The AMS 800 has been
proven to be effective in the treatment of male incontinence following prostate surgery, and is considered the gold standard by most urologists. When using this device,

Auto Tags of Hallandale Has A New Location! Longtime Owner Randy Giunto Provides Customer Service The Way It Used To Be
NOVEMBER 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 12
If you want to call Randy Giunto old school, go ahead. This lifelong Hallandale resident will take it all day long. With his family roots in the area for over a half century, Randy has taken pride in everything he has done in the community. In fact, he attended elementary and middle school right here in the City. What he has done since 1990, is build a loyal customer base from his Auto Tags of Hallandale office. It is there where his ‘old school’ approach to doing business and being part of the community started to kick in. The experience of helping clients with a tag, title, renewal or assist them with the proper motor vehicle documents has earned him a solid reputation and continues to bring in new customers all the time. Randy has truly made a huge impact in a community that has grown through the years. “I never left,” Randy said with a smile. “To be a part of this community for so long has really meant so much to me and our family. Through the years, even though we were based in Hallandale, we started to pick up new customers from all over.” ON THE MOVE With 31 years in the business, Randy has always remained one phone call away - and nothing has changed. He is still the same guy who grew up at City Park (Bluesten Park) as a kid, playing all sports. What has changed is his location. . . but do not panic. He is just two blocks west of his longtime location - and when you see where Auto Tags of Hallandale has landed - you will be impressed.
For over 30 years, Randy Giunto has been part of the landscape of south Florida from his offices in Hallandale Beach. With his recent move two blocks west on Hallandale Beach Blvd., his Auto Tags of Hallandale is located in the impressive 7th Avenue Village. Located in the growing 7th Avenue Village Shops, Randy and his longtime business will be there, right in the middle of Marco’s Pizza, Wing Stop, Wells Fargo, Compounding Pharmacy and much more. “What a great location,” Randy said. “Our loyal customers will find us quickly but we are also excited about the new business that will walk in daily. We are right behind Marco’s Pizza and next to World of Hearing. A lot of people come to both every day.” Believing in customer service and
treating everyone the right way, Randy knows that if you help people with tags, titles, forms, renewals, boats, cars, motorcycles and provide a notary service, they won’t need to go anywhere else. “One thing that will never change is our ‘Florida Grown’ pride in serving and being part of this community,” Randy said. “The only way to stay in business in south Florida is through building long lasting relationships with our customers. That’s why so many of our customers and clients will tell you that they won’t go anywhere else for their vehicle
registration needs.” Because so many businesses rely on their vehicles to keep things going, having an agency that is dependable is vital. Believing that local business is the backbone of any community, Auto Tags of Hallandale boasts a client list that includes: Total Appliance (Hallandale Beach), Cusano’s Bakery (Pembroke Park), Wind Chill, LLC (Hallandale Beach) and Lee’s Locksmith & Bicycle Shop (Hollywood) to name a few.

A FEW THINGS YOU MAY NEED TO KNOW There are always some things that the average person does not know. Randy wants his customers to be educated - and welcomes all your questions that you may have. Here are a few that could save you some time. Did you know? • Your tag expires at midnight on your birthday and not at the end of the month. • When you sell your vehicle, you must surrender your plate to avoid driver’s license suspension. • A Permanent Disabled Placard (Permit) is not actually permanent. It expires four years after the date it is issued. If needed, you may replace it without a doctor’s note within the first year, otherwise you will need a new doctor’s note in order to replace it. • A Temporary Disabled Placard (Permit) is valid for a maximum of six months.

Surviving The Holiday Season By Larry Blustein . Aventura Digest
With Thanksgiving coming up next week - and the holiday season to follow - the City of Aventura will be one of the busiest places around - and a huge target area for criminals. No matter how you slice it, the showcase Aventura Mall, which brings in consumers from around the globe, is also a magnet for crime. Not the only place, but certainly one of the major attractions. The statistics are not pretty and by the numbers that appear from November to March tourists are indeed a target for this criminal element. It happens to be like that in any destination area. But in Aventura, one of the biggest problems is larceny, which is defined as “personal theft” - is an overwhelming problem. In 2016, Avi Gordon and his sister were shopping at the Mall. As they left and headed toward their car, they were approached by two men who had bad intentions. The only saving grace in the entire episode was a car alarm going off, which scared them away. That is a scene that repeats itself at any south Florida facility that attracts a crowd who often have money/credit cards and purchases. While we never know when we are going to be targeted, especially in this day and age of unpredictability, being alert and aware of your surroundings is essential. “Living here in Aventura, it is one of the safest places, but the Mall and other shopping destinations - even restaurants bring in an element that is scary,” Gordon explained. “You hate to hear those statistics, but you can’t run from them.” In 2017 - in a three month period (January-March) - the Aventura Police
and dining,” North Miami Beach resident Kari Sanchez said. “Yet they actually present great problems for those who are in charge of the safety and security of the retailers and customers.” First of all keep in mind that it is 2018, so fully understand that we all need to make sure that we are ready: • Park in well-lit areas close to your destination. Parking lots and structures are typically the most dangerous places at the mall. If shopping alone ask security personnel for an escort to your car. Carry your keys in your hand to use as a weapon if necessary. • When entering your car, remember E.L.F.S. Enter the car, Lock the doors, Fasten seat belts and Scram. Department reported 336 arrests - over 150 were felonies - while much of the others were misdemeanors. The highest month reported for larceny in 2017 was the month of November, which makes sense. Even in the 1,130 arrests that were reported by the APD, felonies and misdemeanors were still high throughout the year. That is alarming and something that continues to rise. Bailey Cohen is a high school student who happens to work at the Aventura Mall, and while she admits that there is security in and out of facility, the “criminal element” are there for a purpose. “I have worked here for two years, and in that time, I have known people who were robbed - or had their cars broken
into,” Cohen pointed out. “Now that I drive here, I am finding myself taking every precaution possible. But if the bad guy wants to do harm, they will make every effort to do so.” How Do You Prepare For The Holidays? By now, everyone knows in our society that you take risks everywhere you go, but because we know that the City of Aventura is going to be a destination for the criminal element, especially in the next two plus months, precaution is key. All those horror stories serve as cautionary tales about safety as millions of people will flood into malls for their holiday shopping. “Malls seem like tightly-controlled and safe spaces for shopping, entertainment

• Pick restrooms in well-lit and welltrafficked areas of the mall. Always accompany children to the restroom. • Don’t overload yourself with packages or become distracted by your cell phone. • Always know where the closest exit is located in case of fire or another emergency. “You can never predict when things are going to happen, especially in this crazy time in which we live in,” Sunny Isles Beach resident and former policeman Keith Andermann said. “So what has to happen, whether its Liberty City or Aventura, is you always have to think of your safety first. Keep focused but still enjoy your experience.”

Has your definition of beauty changed? Are you happy with your appearance? If the answer is no, you are hardly alone. The rise in gym memberships and cosmetic surgeries in recent years indicates as much, and surveys further underscore Americans’ insecurity with their looks. A study conducted at Chapman University and published in the journal Body Image found that women and men were about equally unimpressed with their own appearance. Out of 12,176 respondents, only 26 percent of women were “extremely satisfied” with their looks, and just 28 percent of men were. Many people cite being overweight as their main appearance issue, but for others it’s often traced to the effects of aging. Confidence suffers collateral damage, says Dr. Dennis Schimpf, a plastic surgeon who adds that improving a physical flaw can become a quest to find “inner beauty” as well.
“Many people really aren’t confident in their own skin,” says Schimpf, author of Finding Beauty: Think, See And Feel Beautiful, and founder of Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery (www.sweetgrassplasticsurgery.c om). “It’s often because different stages of life have different impacts on our body, our appearance, and how we feel about ourselves. “The definition of beauty changes over time, but ultimately, you can’t just think it or see it; it also has to be felt. Not everyone needs plastic surgery nor is it going to fix every person’s life. But it can help improve a person’s sense of wellbeing.” Schimpf says people can rate their own “body confidence” by answering these five questions in terms of low, moderate or high confidence: Are you satisfied with your outward appearance? “Low con-
fidence scorers are usually feeling and seeing the effects of age and are frustrated, sensing that their physical flaws are affecting their self-identity,” Schimpf says. “Those on the high end say their physical flaws don’t detract from their overall happiness and productivity.” How self-conscious are you? Low confidence about appearance can worsen over time and hamper people in other areas. “These are people who feel their appearance and others noticing it makes them more selfconscious of other shortcomings they have,” Schimpf says. “As a result they feel hesitant to engage in some activities.” Are you reunion-ready? Many people are hesitant to attend high school reunions because their appearance has significantly worsened, in their mind, over the years. “If you were headed to a high school reunion tomorrow, where you were going

to see people you have not seen in years, how confident would you feel?” Schimpf says. “Those rating low confidence will find some way not to go because of how they feel about themselves.” What physical change would you make? Just about everyone has a physical feature that bothers them. “It may be something you’ve had since childhood,” Schimpf says. “For women, it could be changes resulting from childbearing. For men and women, it can be the natural body changes that come with aging. On the other hand, many like the uniqueness that their body quirks give them, or they’ve lived with them so long they see no need to change.” Would making a physical change make a real difference in your life? “That’s a hard question people must ask themselves,” Schimpf says. “Those with low confidence usually say it would make everything better, from
relationships to opportunities. Those of moderate confidence in themselves say fixing a flaw that bothers them wouldn’t change the other stressors in their life.” “Whatever stage you’re at in life,” Schimpf says, “it’s important to see how your appearance relates to how you feel about yourself on the outside and on the inside.” About Dennis Schimpf, MD, MBA, FACS: Dennis Schimpf (www.sweet grassplasticsurgery.com) is the author of Finding Beauty: Think, See and Feel Beautiful, and the founder of Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery, a multi-faceted practice focusing on cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and body. 3 Steps to Help Manage Depression (BPT) - Sadness and grief are normal human emotions. These feelings can often last for a short period of time. However, when these emotions last for many days or weeks, depression becomes a concern. According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, depression is among the most treatable of mental disorders. Between 80 percent and 90 percent of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment. Almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 16.2 million adults in the U.S. have had at least one major depressive episode in a given year. In fact, according to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics an estimated 8.1 percent of adults age 20 and older had depression in a given 2-week period during 2013-2016. Of those affected by depression, 80 percent reported having at least some difficulty managing work, home and social activities. In the past, stigma surrounding depression caused some people to avoid seeking help. As celebrities, musicians, and even politicians speak out about their own struggles with depression, people have felt empowered to take the steps to find the help they need.
Symptoms of depression It can be difficult to know when feeling down is turning into something more concerning. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, a major depressive episode may include some of these symptoms: • Persistent sad, anxious or “empty” mood • Feelings of hopelessness • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or helplessness • Restlessness, irritability • Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies • Decreased energy • Difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions • Insomnia, early-morning awakening or oversleeping • Low appetite and weight loss, or, overeating and weight gain • Thoughts of death or suicide • Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment (such as headaches, digestive disorders and pain for which no other cause can be diagnosed) Three steps that can help People experiencing some or all of these symptoms can take action by following these three steps. Step 1: Get screened by a qualified mental health
expert. Depression can only be diagnosed by a health care professional who has special assessments and tools to make the appropriate diagnosis. Step 2: Talk to your healthcare provider about a treatment plan. Depression can be managed with the right treatment options. A healthcare provider can determine the strategy that works best for you. Common treatment plans may include psychotherapy and medication. Step 3: Follow a treatment plan closely and take medications as prescribed. Abruptly stopping medications may cause withdrawal symptoms that could worsen depression. If you are uninsured or your health insurance doesn’t cover the medications you need, there are programs that can help. For example, the Inside Rx program is a free prescription savings program that could save an average of 40 percent off select brand-name medications and 80 percent off retail price on generic medications. You can check the price of medications, and terms and restrictions like eligibility requirements, at InsideRx.com. Depression doesn’t discriminate. It impacts all races, ages and genders. Take these first steps to help manage your symptoms. Keep in mind, if you are ever feeling suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 immediately.
Diet Tips To Make The Holidays Fertile For Aspiring Moms The holiday season brings families together. It’s also a popular time to start a family. U.S. birth rates show conception rates peak in December. Nine of the 10 most common birthdays range from Sept. 9-20, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics and the Social Security Administration. Given that pregnancies average about 38 weeks,
many women are conceiving around Christmas. But holiday festivities can also wreak havoc on diet, and healthy nutrition is an important factor for optimal fertility, says Hethir Rodriguez, founder and president of Natural Fertility Info.com (www.natural-fer tilityinfo.com) and a certified herbalist specializing in women’s health. “Eating a fertility diet in
preparation for pregnancy and to boost fertility is one of the most powerful health changes you can make,” Rodriguez says. “Numerous studies have shown that specific changes to the diet can improve fertility, prevent recurrent miscarriage, and support a healthy pregnancy. “A natural fertility diet supports your body in its reproductive efforts,

including foods that are dense in nutrients needed for hormonal health, fetal development, egg health, sperm health and much more.” Rodriguez gives five diet tips that can help improve fertility: Eat Organic. Rodriguez recommends consuming organic produce when available. “Conventional produce could contain harmful herbicides and pesticides, which have been shown to negatively affect both male and female fertility,” Rodriguez says. “Studies have shown that organic vegetables and fruits may have more nutritional value as well.” Cold-water fish. Fatty acids aid in the production of hormones, reduce inflammation and help regulate the menstrual cycle. Fish supplies omega 3, an essential fatty acid. Rodriguez says stay away
from deep-water fish, such as tuna and swordfish, due to their potential concentrations of mercury. “Focus on cold-water fish such as wild Alaskan salmon, cod and halibut,” she says. Grass-fed organic meat. This is a great source of essential fatty acids and protein while being low in saturated fat. Rodriguez says women should eschew conventionally raised cattle that contain high levels of added hormones and antibiotics. Superfoods. Rodriguez suggests Royal jelly, which comes in capsules or in a base of honey and is rich in numerous vitamins, calcium, iron and has all the essential amino acids; and maca root, a Peru-produced superfood that helps increase egg and sperm health. Superfoods are easy to add to your diet and can be added to nearly any recipe.
Eat your greens. Dark leafy vegetables are packed with minerals, antioxidants and vitamins; all essential to healthy fertility. Examples of dark leafy green vegetables are spinach, swiss chard, kale, arugula, and collard greens. Green veggies are rich in fiber, which Rodriguez says helps regulate blood-sugar levels and remove excess estrogens from the body, which may in turn help to reduce fertility issues. These vegetables are easier to incorporate in to the diet than you may think. They can be eaten in salads, juices, sautéed, or added to fruit smoothies and warm winter soups. “You want your diet before conception and throughout pregnancy to build up nutrient stores and provide all the healthy building blocks for a healthy child,” Rodriguez says. “A fertility diet gives you and your future child the best start in life.”

Release Yourself From The Past And Live For Today Our memories help us relive life’s most delightful moments, such as a trip to the Grand Canyon or a child’s high school graduation. But not every memory is a happy one, and often people become so tied to the past – dwelling on mistakes they made or offenses committed against them – that they fail to enjoy and take advantage of the present. “If we permit our past to hold us hostage from the change we deeply desire, we are stuck,” says Tom Corner, a motivational speaker and author of Borrowed Eyes and Feet: Finding Enlightenment After Rage (www.tomcorner.net). “It’s important to be able to release your past and to see existence in the present moment. There is no future and there is no past, only the gift of now.” He knows from experience. For Corner, freeing himself from the past involved overcoming anger and rage that plagued him
since his parents divorced when he was a young boy. He was in his 40s, he says, before he learned to live in the moment – or perhaps, relearn how to live in the moment. Most people, as children, aren’t so hung up on the past and the future, preferring to immerse themselves in the activity at hand, whether that involves a game of tag, a hike in the woods, a favorite TV show or a captivating book. “Unfortunately, children eventually grow up to become adults who live in a state of constant worry about what they did yesterday and what they will do tomorrow,” Corner says. “We
nudge the present moment to the side, making it something of an anomaly, until we return full circle later in life to try to recapture the gift of those moments.” But how do you recapture the ability to take pleasure in the present moment, and avoid letting the past and the future dominate your thoughts and
cause you heartache and anguish? Corner has a few suggestions: Practice forgiveness. It’s been said that the act of forgiveness isn’t so much for the person we are forgiving, but for ourselves. Either way you look at it, it’s not always an easy thing to do. “ Are we courageous enough to see the world through the eyes of forgiveness, allowing us to release the many false expectations we unintentionally impose on ourselves and on others?” Corner asks. Strive for selfacceptance. If we are honest and brave enough to look deep within ourselves, Corner says, we will realize that, more often than
we’d like to admit, we sabotage ourselves with negative self-talk. “The next time you feel doubt or a sense of failure, pay attention to how you feel about yourself,” he says. “If you are not being nice to yourself, be aware of these feelings and try to replace this doubt with positive thoughts or affirmations.” Recapture childlike wonder. “When we were children, all things were possible because we did not know much about resistance or fear,” Corner says. “As children we did not allow our past to hold us hostage from the gift of joy in the present moment.” Think about your past, he says, release whatever is holding you back from your dreams, your desires, and your ability to accomplish anything. “Too often, we wait for tomorrow to celebrate our yesterdays,” Corner says. “Why not today? Why not celebrate what we have right now, right this minute?”

Choose accessories featuring a variance of shapes, sizes, colors and textures to establish visual and spatial equilibrium. Boldly patterned pillows add dimension among solid tones, while lush flower arrangements effortlessly fill negative space, striking an unexpected balance of comfort and intrigue. Sophisticated hardware: Complete a luxurious design with sophisticated fixtures that serve
as anchoring details, thoughtfully integrated for aesthetics and utility. These necessary pieces add opulence to a room while providing unexpected functionality. Reimagine the use of hardware by adding robe hooks to a walk-in closet for belts or scarves, or to hang clothes. Incorporate an element of surprise by adorning a kitchen space with a towel bar from the Litze Bath Collection by Brizo, which features textured knurling details. An elevated update: Once a design is complete, statement pieces can have surprising transformative power when updating a space. Select high-end pieces for major impact, such as a bold area rug or an oversized piece of original art to instantly augment a design. Update an existing piece with new drawer knobs for a fresh look, integrating smaller elements that reflect the personality of the space. From a one-of-a-kind sculpture to a tasteful timepiece, always keep in mind that small-scale updates have the unexpected potential to make a large-scale impression.
