Orchids are traditionally regarded as the gift of choice for married couples celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary. Along with the flowers’ connotation of beauty, Chinese folklore suggests that they are also symbolic of the constructs of vitality, longevity, and perfection. If these qualities personified one of South Florida’s stellar cities, Aventura would be first on the list. On Sunday, November 12, hundreds of residents commemorated the City’s 28th year of incorporation at Gulfstream Park to accommodate
attendees. Accustomed to thriving as a municipality from pioneering achievements in community building, economic development, and Infrastructure innovation, neighbors were in celebration mode during the family-friendly afternoon full of live stage shows during the STAR Talent Competition, assorted snacks along Food Truck Row, pint-sized rides in Toddler Town, and other whimsical games and prizes for all ages. Recognized as one of South Florida’s quintessential locales, Aventura thrives as a neighborhood where family values,
comfortable luxury, business culture, and social offerings intersect. Those who are new to town might be unfamiliar with the rich history of the City of Excellence, which is the brainchild of Turnberry Associates magnates Don Soffer and George Joshua Berlin, who conceptualized and sketched its general layout over a brief table conversation. What was once a mangrove swamp in the 1950s has transformed into one of the world’s model suburban cities. Among other notable achievements, the City birthed one of the nation’s most prolific shopping malls,
which recently expanded with the inclusion of the Esplanade wing and a pedestrian bridge leading to the Brightline Station. Aventura’s rich history takes center stage when honoring its leaders who established the City’s solid foundation. Such an example took place during the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony at Government Center the morning of November 11, when dignitaries and guests paid homage to men and women of valor who served in the United States Armed Forces. Year after year, the City upholds its mantle by acknowledging the contributions of those who came before us, whose legacies continue to pave the way for families to make memories within the city limits. Aventura’s metamorphosis has elevated its public profile to the world stage, branding the Miami-Dade County location as one of the most desirable residential choices for global citizens, in addition to its emergence as a destination for holiday-themed events and programs. On November 23, International Special Attractions will launch its super-sized Snow Carnival at Aventura Mall after the attraction premiered in Las Vegas, creating a winter wonderland theme park headlined by 350 tons of real snow. In December, the Community Recreation Center will offer a two-week Winter Camp for children interested in “edutainmentstyle” activities, basketball, and dance while Founders Park will be hosting a Tennis Camp. The Founders Park North Turf Field Enhancement Project, situated at 3105 Northeast 190th Street, Aventura, for the kick off of this project the city is promising an enhanced recreational space that will elevate the local sports and leisure experience for the community. Expected to conclude by January of 2024, this venture aims to change the current natural grass field, replacing it with a
FieldTurf System. The city states this innovation will spell a remarkable evolution in the city’s Infrastructure, presenting a more durable, weather-resistant, and adaptable surface that will cater to a multitude of athletic activities. Throughout the project’s duration, the City of Aventura strongly advises residents and visitors to exercise caution within the construction zone and opt for alternative routes whenever feasible. While there might be sporadic lane closures on the westbound inside lane of Northeast 190th street, the city assures that road closures will not be necessary, minimizing disruptions to the local traffic flow. This ambitious initiative underlines Aventura’s commitment to cater to the
recreational needs of its diverse populace. The installation of the FieldTurf System is set to offer residents a premium venue for sports, events, and leisure activities, promising durability, versatility, and an enhanced user experience. Theatrical Consultant Michael Duarte, Fine Arts Specialist Lilia Fontana, Actor and Director Brad Shank, Vocal Coach Manny Perez and Public Relations Specialist Arely Ruiz are just the tip of the iceberg of talented and passionate professionals who have advised me on my journey. My motivation to create Always Remember came from my time in California in the 1990’s. I was exasperated from hearing so many uninformed people tell me how “wonderful things are in Cuba.” My angst got the best of me, and I decided to communicate the story of many Cuban refugees in the best way I know: through the organic fusion of music, lyrics and story. I longed to create a story, score and set of songs that could stand the test of time against the likes of West Side Story, The Sound of Music, Madame Butterfly and other musicals and operas I cherished from childhood. In the grander context of my life, the creation of this show is allowing me to express myself in every way possible. Always Remember The Cuban-American Experience By Marilyn Morales Cuba with nothing more than the clothes we were wearing and one suitcase of personal belongings for the five of us. This work is dedicated to my parents and to the countless refugees who have made the greatest personal sacrifices for the hope of a better future for their children. While the story is a fiction, every single scene, dialogue and word in this show comes from my experience or a family member’s story – or from well-researched documented accounts. As a narrative of our Cuban Culture, I have been writing the story of Always Remember my entire life. And now, with the eyes of the world taking a hard look at the Cuban-American experience, the time is now for this to see the light of day. At intermissions and following showcase performances, I have been deeply
gratified to receive very emotional responses from fellow Cuban refugees - as well as those from other countries. I am happy to say that my story appears to be resonating with those who have attended the showcases so far. From an overarching artistic perspective, I sought to craft this work in the grand tradition of the classic and enduring musicals. This is an honest work, as it is the work of my life - my Magnum Opus. There are 23 songs in Always Remember. The styles that I employ, i.e. Guaguanco, Mambo, Rumba, Tango and, contrastingly, Salsa, Rock Ballade, Broadway-Style Numbers and Incidental Music have been painstakingly integrated into the fabric of the story. Rounding out the health assessments are Chest Xrays and a Complete Blood Panel, which provide valuable information about the lungs, heart, chest structure, and various blood parameters, helping to identify a range of potential health issues. Growing up in Coventry, England, Dizzy never imagined he would one day perform in cirque shows worldwide, making a living with magic. From the illustrious Apollo Theatre in London’s West End to the iconic Sydney Opera House, Dizzy has been enthralling audiences globally for over a decade. A masterful comedy magician and versatile cirque performer, his acts regularly feature as headliners on prestigious luxury liners like Celebrity and Norwegian Cruise Lines. He gained recognition as The Trickster in The Illusionists, the largest touring magic show globally. Dizzy’s exuberant blend of magic, physical comedy, and mischievous British charm mesmerizes his audiences, leaving them both spellbound and gasping for breath. With three unique shows to choose from, he guarantees an unforgettable and unbelievable experience. Reflecting on his journey, Dizzy shared, “I’m often asked if I always aspired to be a magician. Truthfully, the short answer is no. However, I always pursued my passions. I initially dabbled in martial arts, reveling in the physicality and athleticism it demanded. My favorite moves involved spinning, kicking, and jumping, which gradually transformed into a passion for breakdancing. I taught myself various power moves and, despite lacking rhythm, I relished performing acrobatic tricks. Surprisingly, those tricks led me to portray Sir Francis Drake in a stunt show in Majorca, Spain.” During this phase, Dizzy spent seasons executing backflips, high falls, and engaging in sword fights with fellow swashbucklers. Following an altercation with Blackbeard (a story in itself ), his tenure as a professional pirate concluded. However, fate led him to a cirque audition in London, where he astounded casting directors with his acquired skills. While others deliberated on their music preferences, he impulsively ran up a wall, executed a backflip, and instantly captured everyone’s attention. Sheimos materials encompass a wide range of items, each of which must be handled and disposed of with care and reverence: 1. Torah Scrolls: The most sacred of all Sheimos, Torah Scrolls are meticulously

When a Torah Scroll becomes damaged or is no longer usable, it must be buried in a special ceremony. 2. Prayer Books: Prayer Books, or Siddurim, contain sacred prayers and verses from the Torah. When they become worn out or damaged, they are also disposed of through burial. 3. Tefillin and Mezuzahs: Tefillin are small black leather boxes containing passages from the Torah that are worn during morning prayers. Mezuzahs are parchment scrolls inscribed with specific biblical verses placed on the doorposts of Jewish homes. When these items are no longer serviceable, they are buried. 4. Other Sacred Materials: Shaimos materials can also include any paper, books, or objects containing G-d’s name or verses from the Torah. This encompasses a wide array of items, from synagogue signage to religious pamphlets. Disposal Of Sheimos Periodically, the contents of the Genizah are collected and buried in a Jewish cemetery or other designated Shaimos burial site. A special ceremony accompanies the burial, demonstrating respect for the sacred content being
interred. The concept of Sheimos underscores the profound respect and veneration that Judaism places on the written word and the name of G-d. The practice of Sheimos preservation and burial reflects the enduring commitment of Jewish tradition to uphold the sanctity of the divine name and the written word. Chabad Chayil Solution Although Sheimos needs to be buried, unlike a person, it does not need to be buried in a cemetery. Perhaps Synagogues and Jewish Schools being built or undergoing expansion can designate a space under their building to bury these holy objects. This will solve the Sheimos problem while building their structure on a holy foundation! Before we poured concrete for the foundation of the new Chabad Chayil Educational Center in Highland Lakes, we accepted Shaimos from over 30 Shuls and schools, burying several thousand books. During the most recent pour there were several truckloads of old Jewish books that were brought to the burial during the foundation pour. For a nominal fee anyone was able to bring their individual

The new building will house Jewish After School Programs for children who don’t yet attend a Jewish school, Gan Chabad Preschool, Florida’s Largest Jewish Library in everlasting memory of the late Rabbi Dovid Bryn, and all Chabad’s Award Winning Programs like CTeen for high schoolers, CTeen Junior for middle schoolers, CTeenU which gives college credits while still in high school, CKids and a smorgasbord of activities for all ages. The new center is expected to open in August 2024. Sheimos, also spelled “Shaimos,” is a fundamental concept in Judaism that pertains to the respectful disposal of sacred religious texts. The term “Sheimos” itself is derived from the Hebrew word “shem,” which means “name,” and it encompasses any text containing the name of G-d or other holy content. The proper handling and disposal of Sheimos materials are essential aspects of Jewish religious practice, emphasizing the reverence and sanctity attributed to written words and the divine name. For years, local cemeteries provided space for burying these holy objects. More recently, as more Jewish texts are being printed, the cemeteries are being less accommodating. First the excuse was COVID-19. Then they began charging per box, and now they want people to buy an entire grave to bury their few boxes, making it almost impossible for any individual to be able to properly care for Sheimos. Synagogues are begging people not to bring their Sheimos, as it becomes very costly to handle and as of late, not even possible to deal with. Many people are notorious for dropping off bags of Sheimos at their local synagogue and just leaving it to the synagogues to figure it out, creating a clergy nightmare. There’s got to be some type of solution! The Significance Of Sheimos In Judaism, written materials that contain the name of G-d or other sacred content are considered holy. This includes Torah scrolls, prayer books, and any other documents or materials that feature divine names or verses from the Torah. The underlying principle is that the name of G-d is sacred and must be treated with the utmost respect. This belief is deeply rooted in the second of the Ten Commandments, which commands the people not to take the name of the Lord in vain (Exodus 20:7). Types Of Sheimos
