North Miami Beach (NMB) Annual Disinfection of the Water System In conjunction with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department, NMB Water will be performing system maintenance involving chlorine disinfection of the water distribution system from November 8th - 21st. This affects Aventura properties from 188th Street south to 178th Street. Using this different type of disinfection may be noticeable to people and animals with acute chlorine sensitivities. If you are especially sensitive to the taste or odor of chlorine, keep an open container of drinking water in your refrigerator for
a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Users of home dialysis machines, owners of tropical fish, managers of stores and restaurants with fish and shellfish holding tanks are advised to seek professional advice as to the method for removing chlorine residuals in tap water during this time. COVID-19 Testing Miami-Dade County officials continue to work with local, state and federal agencies in monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). After you’ve been tested, please review the information provided by your testing site on obtaining your test results. Please note that due to a large increase in testing, results are taking longer than usual to be posted on-line by the laboratories. Types of Tests Standard Molecular Testing: This common Coronavirus (COVID-19) test checks samples from your respiratory system, such as a swab from the inside of your nose, to see if you are currently infected. These viral tests are sent to a laboratory for analy-
sis and results can take several days. Antigen (Rapid COVID-19) Testing: An antigen, or rapid COVID-19 test, is another type of diagnostic test and can provide results in less than an hour. Positive results are usually highly accurate but, negative results may need to be confirmed with a standard, molecular test. Antibody Testing: An antibody test looks for antibodies made by your immune system in response to a threat, such as a specific virus. Antibodies can help fight infections. Antibodies can take several days or weeks to develop after you have had an infection and may stay in your blood for several weeks or more after recovery. They are not used to identify an active Coronavirus infection. Researchers do not know if the presence of antibodies means you that will be immune to the Coronavirus in the future. Results can take one to three days.

Florida Passes Amendment 2 And Creates A Fair Minimum Wage This election, Florida for a Fair Wage announced that Amendment 2 to raise Florida’s minimum wage passed with over 60% of the vote. Amendment 2 received over 6 million votes and surpassed the required 60% threshold, ensuring that all hardworking Floridians will receive a living wage. Florida’s minimum wage is currently $8.56 per hour, it will now increase to $10 in 2021 and then increase by a dollar each year until it reaches $15 per hour in 2026. Campaign Senior Advisor, Ben Pollara, said, “a supermajority of Florida’s voters have clearly spoken - all working Floridians will receive a fair wage for a hard day’s work.” Ben continued by saying, “thank you to
our campaign chairman, John Morgan, who spearheaded this initiative, to the large and small unions across Florida that fought tirelessly for this and for the millions of voters that supported this campaign.” Florida’s new $10 minimum wage will be effective on September 30th, 2021. Florida for a Fair Wage Argument To Pass Amendment 2 Florida needed to pass the Fair Wage Amendment to ensure that all hard-working Floridians can receive a living wage. The
“living wage” is the minimum cost that covers the basic needs of an individual and the needs of their family without government assistance. Florida’s minimum wage of $8.56 – or $17,600 per year – for a full-time employee is not a livable wage for many of the 200,000 hard-working Floridians that earn it, especially those working to support a family. As most Floridians know, the cost of living in our state is higher than the national average, particularly when it comes to housing and transportation costs. The living wage calculator created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology finds a single adult needs to make over $12.00 an hour working full-time
Today’s low-wage workers earn less per hour than their counterparts did 50 years ago, despite the fact that the economy has grown dramatically over the past 50 years. to earn a living wage in Florida. A family of four, with two full-time working adults earning minimum wage, is currently earning just over half of what they need to live in Florida. Amendment 2 will lift pay for hundreds of thousands of Floridians and reverse decades of growing pay inequality. It
allows individuals to take pride in their work rather than fight the endless cycle of poverty. This higher income would also benefit workers’ communities as workers spend their extra earnings. This injection of new capital will help stimulate Florida’s economy and spur greater business activity and job growth.

History of Veteran’s Day World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into
effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918 is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled
with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the things from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…” Veteran’s Day continues to be observed on
November 11, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. The restoration of the observance of Veteran’s Day, November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veteran’s Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
