Arbor Day Success

The Arbor Day Foundation recently recognized the City of Aventura as a recipient of the 2022 Tree City USA Award! The ceremony was held last month at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Aventura City Of Excellence School students showcased their dedication with art as well as dance performances. The City also recognized local businesses and residential communities by presenting them with 2023 Aventura GO Green Recognition Awards for their efforts to reduce energy consumption and encourage sustainability. The City’s GO Green campaign encourages all City departments and the community to practice environmental sustainability by making responsible decisions that reduce negative impacts on the environment, save

energy and lower operational costs.

Started in 1976, Tree City USA is one of The Arbor Day Foundation’s oldest programs. The founders had a vision for a greener, healthier America and hoped this initiative would inspire change on a nationwide level.The firstTree City USA cohort comprised of 42 communities in 16

The City of Aventura Police Department recently hosted an amazing Take Your Child to Work Day, which was a huge success for both the children and their par ents. The event was designed to give children an oppor tunity to experience a day in the life of their parents.

Take Your Child to Work Day is a special occasion. It’s a day when children get to visit their parents’ workplaces and experience the daily routines of different profes sions.This event is not only a fun and educational day for kids, but it’s also an opportunity for companies and organizations to show their support for families.

Children who participate in Take Your Child to Work Day get to see what goes on behind the scenes in differ ent workplaces. They can ask questions, learn new skills, and get a taste of what it’s like to work in different fields. From hospitals to law firms to tech companies, there are countless opportunities for children to explore a wide range of careers.

In Aventura the day began with a tour of the Government Center, which gave the children a chance to see the different departments that make up the City

Government. They learned about the different roles that people play in making the city run smoothly, and they had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the City Employees.

The highlight of the day was the K9 Demonstration, which was performed by one of the Police Department’s specially trained K9. The children were amazed at the dog’s ability to follow commands and to apprehend a “suspect.” They were also impressed by the dog’s agility and strength.

After the K9 Demonstration, the children were treated to an Awards Ceremony. The children were thrilled and they left the event feeling proud of their parents and their accomplishments.

Overall, the City of Aventura Police Department’sTake Your Child toWork Day was a huge success. The children

had a great time learning more about local Government, Law Enforcement, and the Police Officers enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experiences with the children. The event was also a great opportunity for the Police Department to build relationships with the community and to demonstrate their commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of Aventura.

Events like this are important because they help to build trust and understanding between the police and the community they serve. Aventura’s First Ever Drone Light Show The Highly Choreographed Environmentally-Friendly

KAO Bar & Grill is a two-story unique concept of a shipping container restaurant that perfectly adds to Hallandale Beach’s vibrant and diverse community. Sought-after Jewelry Designer Tiffany Chou founded Depo Market with the intention of providing a better, more independent life for her adopted brother Chris-- the company’s co-designer, who is Autistic-and other determined adults like him. She believes that empowering adults living with disabilities can be obtained by providing creative and social job opportunities for this particular community to thrive. After gaining momentum from Autism Acceptance Month in April and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this May, she hopes to elevate this occasional dialogue surrounding the concept of limitless living to a year-long priority among hiring managers everywhere.

When asked about her motivation, Chou explains, “The largest minority group in the world is people with disabilities. No matter where someone falls on the spectrum of abilities, if they have a disability, it usually makes it a lot harder to find employment. National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day is an Annual Event that takes place on the third Friday of April. It is an important day that encourages people to clean out their medicine cabinets and properly dispose of any expired or unwanted medications. This day is significant because it helps to prevent accidental overdoses, medication misuse, and abuse.

Missed the day? Don’t worry! The City will keep this important program going and has the City providing a secured medication disposal system located at the Government Center. This easy to operate system accepts unwanted or expired prescribed and over-the-counter medicines.

The City’s receptacle is located in the main lobby of the Aventura Government Center 19200West Country Club Drive, Aventura, Florida 33180 and is available for use during the Lobby’s regular hours of operation Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Medications can expire, become ineffective, or even dangerous over time. Many people also accumulate medications that are no longer needed or prescribed to them. These unused and expired medications can pose a risk to both people and the environment if not disposed

of properly.They can be accidentally ingested by children or pets, or even intentionally abused by someone looking to get high.

Fortunately, the Aventura Government Center’s Lobby provides a receptacle where people can safely dispose of their unwanted or expired medications.
