MetCouncil’sAnnualLegislativeBreakfastDraws600LeadersAs Gov.HochulSignsBufferZoneBillProtectingJewishInstitutions

More than 600 elected officials, government leaders, clergy and community leaders gathered in Manhattan on Sunday morning for Met Council’s Annual Legislative Breakfast, one of the largest annual gatherings of elected officials and Jewish community leaders in New York.

Held ahead of New York City’s Salute to Israel Parade, the breakfast brought together leaders from every level of government to rec ognize Met Council’s work serving 350,000 New Yorkers in need through its food pantry network, social services, senior programs, fam ily violence services and anti poverty initiatives.

The program featured remarks from Governor Kathy Hochul, who joined Met Council to sign the “Keeping New Yorkers Safe” legislation, establishing buffer zones around houses of worship; U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles “Chuck” Schumer; New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, among more than three dozen elected officials who took to the stage in support of Met Council’s mission and in celebration of New York’s Jewish community.

“When New Yorkers have nowhere else to turn, they turn to Met Council,” said Met Council CEO David G. Greenfield. “Across our food pantries, senior services, domestic vio lence programs and anti poverty initiatives, we meet people at the hardest moments of their lives. The extraordinary turnout of elected offi cials and community leaders today reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every New Yorker has access to the support and dignity they deserve.”

This year’s honorees included New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, New York City Comptroller Mark Levine, Secretary to the Governor Karen Persichilli Keogh, New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, New York State Assembly Health Committee Chair Amy Paulin, New York State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, New York City Council Deputy Leader Chris Banks, Majority Whip Kamillah Hanks, Deputy Speaker Dr. Nantasha Williams and Majority Leader Shaun Abreu.

“Met Council embodies the values that make New York strong: caring for the vulner able, supporting families in crisis and ensuring no one is left behind. Whether it is feeding the hungry, housing families or caring for Holocaust survivors, this organization has spent decades lifting up New Yorkers and strength ening communities across our state….I have had enough of seeing Jewish New Yorkers harassed and intimidated simply for who they are. It is not enough to condemn antisemitism. We have to take action to stop it,” said Governor Kathy

[2] “When New Yorkers have nowhere else to turn, they turn to Met Council,” said Met Council CEO David G. Greenfield.

“We are home to the second largest Jewish population outside of Israel and at a time when antisemitism is rising at alarming levels New York must continue to lead,” shared City Council Speaker Julie Menin. “Today we proudly celebrate Jewish culture, Jewish heri tage and the Jewish state while standing united against hate in all its forms. Organizations like Met Council represent the very best of our city, providing critical food, social services and sup port to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers each year while strengthening communities across all five boroughs.”

“I was raised to believe deeply in Am Yisrael Chai and that is how I am raising my children.

My Jewish identity is not something I put on and take off. It is who I am and who I will always be. I understand the fear many in our community have felt since October 7 which is why I take this responsibility so personally. Organizations like Met Council reflect the values that make our community strong and my commitment is sim ple: every Jewish New Yorker should be able to gather, worship and celebrate their heritage proudly knowing the NYPD is doing everything possible to keep them safe,” added NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Over the past year, Met Council reached record levels of service across its programs. The organization served 350,000 New Yorkers statewide, distributed 1,880,457 pounds of

food each month through its pantry network and processed 239,366 digital pantry orders through Market by Met Council.

Met Council also helped New Yorkers access $20,700,000 in SNAP benefits through applications and recertifications and distributed $1,518,127 in cash assistance through its crisis intervention work. Met Council’s senior serv ices division assisted 2,576 Holocaust survivors with home deliveries and essential services, while its family violence and prevention pro grams supported 1,067 individuals. Through its Career Access Program, Met Council trained more than 503 participants through tech work shops, helping New Yorkers build skills and access workforce opportunities.

CongressionalLeadersLambastIran&AntisemitismAt ZionistOrganizationOfAmerica’sWashingtonMission

[1] Sen. Ted Cruz Praises “ZOA’s indomitable, fearless and inspiring commitment to speak and advocate for the truth” [2]

Representative Mike Lawler (RNY) also roused the attendees with his fervent message and commitment to sponsoring new laws against antisemitism. [3] Rep. Randy Fine with ZOA National President Morton Klein.

As attacks against Jews in Israel and the United States proliferate, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) recently brought together almost 200 Jewish leaders from throughout the nation to hear from almost two dozen Congressional leaders from both major parties call for tougher measures to com bat antisemitism and stronger measures by the Trump Administration to defeat Iran in the cur rent war.

“Antisemitism is a gateway drug that unless eradicated, will ultimately lead to the diminution of the democratic values we cherish. We need to stand and fight because what has happened is staggering and dangerous,” said Senator Ted Cruz (R Texas) to a standing ovation from the group.

Cruz exhorted both major parties to stem minority voice in their camps with whom have been fanning the flames of antisemitism.

“The Democratic Party thought it would just go away. But today there is real contingent of antisemitic sentiment. But it also pains me that we see antisemitism grouping on the right. I couldn’t image that would be the case two years ago, but it is and it must be stopped,” he added.

Cruz thanked the ZOA for its “inimitable, fearless and inspiring commitment to speak and advocate for the truth and the clarity of its mes sage.”

Representative Mike Lawler (R NY) also roused the attendees with his fervent message and commitment to sponsoring new laws against antisemitism.

“Let me be clear. Antizionism is antis emitism! It is rooted in Jew hatred. We are liv ing in a moment that at times feels like 1930’s Germany where the dehumanization of Jews is leading to physical attacks. But not on my watch! All of us as Americans should be appalled by this and take action to stop it,” he said.

Other members of Congress addressing the group in the Hart Senate Office Building included: Senator John Hoeven (R ND); Repre sentative Andy Biggs (R AZ); Representative Randy Fine (R FL); Representative Laura Gillen (D NY); Representative Josh Gottheimer(D

NJ); Representative Kevin Kiley (I CA); Repre sentative George Latimer (D NY); Repre sentative Claudia Tenney (R NY); and Repre sentative Shri Thanedar (D MI), and many more.

“Coming to Washington as proud Jews and Zionists sends a powerful message to Congress. We are right, the antisemites are wrong. We are truthful and just, our enemies are full of lies,”

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein told attendees. “Iran and antisemitism are the main reasons we are here. We must stop Iranian aggression and its ability to make nuclear weap ons and intercontinental missiles; and fund and arm Islamic terrorist groups.” It is a serious issue for Americans. If Israel didn’t exist, America would have to fight this war anyway. First, they want to kill Jews, then they will come for the Christians. They are evil haters who believe these things in their hearts. They are not lunatics, they are regions fanatics who believe in the literal interpretation of the Koran.”

Following the luncheon, ZOA delegations fanned out across the Capitol, meeting with dozens of additional members of Congress and key staff to urge them to fight for these critical issues. The meetings centered on three critical issues:

First, ZOA underscored the growing danger posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran as an exis tential threat to Israel and a serious threat to the security of the United States and the world. The ZOA is firmly opposed to allowing the Islamic terrorist regime, which hates Jews and America,

to acquire a military nuclear capability and strongly supports any steps to prevent that out come. As a result, the ZOA is very supportive of Operation Midnight Hammer in 2025, Operation Epic Fury in 2026, and Operation Economic Fury in 2026.

Another key agenda item is violence and irrational hatred against Jews have become com mon occurrences in the U.S. and around the world since the October 7th atrocities in Southern Israel. American universities, cities and increasingly, even K 12 schools are expe riencing frightening levels of Jew hatred. ZOA demands that existing laws be enforced and new laws be passed to fight this deranged irrational hatred.

The other key message for delegates was the ZOA strong position of support for the legal, political, historic and religious rights of Jews to live anywhere in the land of Israel, and including Judea (“Yehuda” in Hebrew) and Samaria (“Shomron” in Hebrew), the territory that was illegally occupied by Jordan from 1948 1967. International Law strongly supports the claim of Israel to the territory between the “green line,” which marked the cease fire locations of 1949 and the Jordan River. There is a movement in several states and in proposed legislation to adopt the historically accurate terminology for this region that is the heartland of the land of Israel.

The program kicked off the evening before with a large reception featuring U.S. Department of Justice Task Force on

Antisemitism Chair Leo Terrell, Esq. who announced the launch of a 15 city tour to fight antisemitism.

“Antisemitism is local. It’s a failure of prosectors to prosecutors. It’s a failure of teach ers when they teach antisemitism in schools,” he shared. “We are bringing the message that either they prosecute or we will file a lawsuit against them.”

“Fighting antisemitism is a 24/7 commit ment. I am there for you, the Justice Department is there for you and President Trump is there for you,” he added. “And I will never say no to my great friend Morton Klein.”

“Leo Terrell will go down in history as one of the best friends the Jewish people ever had” said Zionist Organization of America National President Morton Klein. “We were honored to have him join us tonight and bring his important message to us on the eve of our Washington Mission.”

Founded in 1897, the Zionist Organization of America is the oldest pro Israel organization in the United States. The ZOA works towards strengthening US Israeli relations through edu cational activities, public affairs programs, advo cating on Capitol Hill, and by combating anti Israel bias in the media, textbooks, and on cam puses. The ZOA is dedicated to educating the public, elected officials, media, and college/ high school students about the truth of the ongoing and relentless Arab Islamic war against Israel and the Jewish people. FIDF’SEmergencyCampaignForOperationRoaringLion ProvidesCriticalSupportToIDFSoldiersAndFamilies

The Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) has provided more than $7 Million in emergency funding to support urgent well being needs for soldiers and reservists during Operation Roaring Lion. The funds include $4.9 Million for the IDF Medical Corps. This wartime assistance is in addition to FIDF’s ongoing programs and addresses critical needs that fall outside standard defense allocations but are essential to soldier and reservists’ safety and well being.

“Our soldiers and reservists have been fac ing extraordinary operational and personal demands and the needs that emerged from the field have required immediate and sustained support,” said FIDF CEO Major General (Res.) Nadav Padan. “Through this effort, we are ensuring that IDF units have the medical equip ment, financial relief and mental health services they need to operate effectively and to support their families during prolonged service. This is about responding quickly, responsibly and at scale to ensure they are never alone.”

The allocations supported life saving medi cal equipment used by IDF and Home Front Command units in the field to treat wounded soldiers and civilians, including systems for transporting and warming blood, field blood and plasma refrigeration units, composite oxygen cylinders, advanced medical monitoring devices, portable blood coolers and specialized patient evacuation equipment. The allocation of $4.9 Million for these medical capabilities supports frontline treatment and evacuation systems that have contributed to improved survival out comes.

Emergency support has also reached reserve soldiers and their families, many of whom are experiencing significant financial and emotional strain after extended wartime service. With reservists leaving jobs, businesses and homes to serve, FIDF has helped provide direct financial assistance and offered rest, services and struc tured well being programs. Support for Reservists, who have most carried the brunt of battle, will continue to be a priority for FIDF in

the months ahead.

FIDF has also supported morale and welfare initiatives for reserve units, including unit level gatherings funded throughout April and May for thousands of soldiers across multiple battalions. As the war continues, FIDF is mobilizing rap idly to meet growing needs across Israel’s defense forces.

Throughout Operation Roaring Lion, FIDF has remained present alongside Israel’s soldiers, including pilots, medics, search and rescue teams and combat units, providing both material assistance and ongoing support.

In addition to this emergency support, FIDF has also been steadily expanding Mental Health Services for IDF soldiers, Veterans and their families, in partnership with leading institutions including Sheba Medical Center and other care providers, increasing access to treatment in Israel and ensuring continued support for Lone Soldiers returning to the United States.

From 2023 to 2025, FIDF has provided $355 Million in humanitarian support for the

health, Well Being and education of Israel’s sol diers, reservists, Veterans and their families, including $133 Million in 2025 alone, the larg est annual impact in the organization’s history.

Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) is a 501(c)(3) Not For Profit Organization dedicated to honoring and supporting the brave men and women of the IDF who risk everything to protect the State of Israel and the Jewish peo ple. While the mission of the IDF’s heroes is to look after Israel, defending its people, borders and freedom, FIDF’s mission is to look after them. FIDF provides life changing support through education, financial aid, bereavement programs, mental health services and more, ensuring that every soldier, veteran and bereaved family knows they are not alone. Through global partnerships and unwavering commitment, FIDF stands as a pillar of strength for those who sacrifice so much in service to the Jewish homeland.

ZOAAtThe“ProtestJew-Hating,Israel-HatingZohranMamdani”Demonstration

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein and ZOA Director of Research and Special Projects, Liz Berney, Esq. released the following statement:

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) was honored to be a backer and promoter of the “Protest Zohran Mamdani” demonstration near Gracie Mansion on Tuesday evening, May 26th, organized by End Jew Hatred, which is led by Lawfare Project Founder, ZOA Coalition Member and ZOA’s dear friend Brooke Goldstein. ZOA’s Director of Research & Special Projects Liz Berney, Esq. was also one of the speakers at the protest. Here is Liz’s report:

The demonstration was very well attended, with over one thousand attendees who filled much of a wide, long city block, including a majority of Jews from all streams of Judaism; families of 9/11 victims and October 7 victims; Hindus; Catholics; other non Jews; Social Media influencers; Democrats and Republicans; “Blakeman for Governor” fans; Russian Jewish American Republican NY State Assemblyman Michael Novakhov (who spoke, and whom ZOA recently worked with on rescinding the visa for a vicious Uzbek antisemite); Catholic League’s Bill Donohue (who spoke); Ethiopian Jewish Israeli American and Nassau County Legislator Mazi Pilip (who also spoke); excellent MC Michelle Ahdoot; CJV’s Rabbi Menken; many other good friends; and a pro Israel Muslim (who also spoke, and will be marching in the upcoming Israel Day parade).

Notably, in contrast to the violent, dangerous, anti Israel, pro murdering Jews, Destroying Israel Hamas riots that have been

held at the doorstep of New York synagogues and schools, our peaceful demonstration on Tuesday evening was required to be held on 87th Street – a block away from Gracie Mansion, which is on 88th Street. Apparently, Mamdani is fine with rioters being able to threaten synagogue goers and Jewish schoolchildren up close, but wants to keep law abiding Jewish protestors far away from the taxpayer financed New York mansion he occupies. We nonetheless shouted loudly, to try to make sure that Mamdani could hear us from a block away.

Wonderful speakers and numerous creative signs recounted Mamdani’s horrendous record of hatred towards New York’s Jewish community, Jews, and the Jewish State including:

• Mamdani’s rescission of Executive Orders protecting New York’s Jewish community and the IHRA definition of antisemitism on day one of his mayoral term;

• Mamdani’s abuse of New York City funds to create a despicable, distorted, antisemitic, anti-Israel “Nakba” propaganda film;

• Mamdani’s frightening support of murdering Jews by his refusal to condemn “Globalize the Intifada” – which calls for murdering every Jew around the world;

• Mamdani’s veto of the City Council law to provide school buffer zones;

• Mamdani’s participation in anti-Israel demonstrations;

• Mamdani’s refusal to march in the Israel Day parade; and

• Mamdani’s failures to keep New York as a safe place for its one million Jewish citizens who helped build New York City, and comprise the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.

I spoke about Mamdani’s open opposition to Israel’s exis tence, and Mamdani’s claim that Jews buying apartments in Israel

is illegal – which Mamdani used to falsely blame the synagogues that pro Hamas mobs threatened. I noted that Jews buying apart ments in Israel or NY is not illegal – and that Mamdani’s incite ment of Jew hatred is what is illegal. I then led the crowd in an enthusiastic chant (which I put together on the spot): “Two, four, six, eight, Israel is the Jewish State, Stop Mamdani to end Jew hate.” I also spoke about how I know that we are going to win, just as we won when we came out in the streets for our Jewish brothers and sisters in Israel and in Russia.

Several speakers spoke about how they, their parents, or grandparents came to New York years ago to escape antisemitic persecution, and helped build New York City – only to be sub jected to frightening antisemitism under Jew hating, Israel hating bigot Mamdani’s reign. One speaker (I don’t recall which one) noted (paraphrased): “All Mamdani had to do was nothing. Just keep the current protections in place. But instead, he went out of his way to change things to harm the Jewish community.” Other chants during the evening included: “Hey ho, Mamdani’s got to go”; “U.S.A.”; and, of course, “Am Yisrael Chai!”

New York City police officers were visibly present on this occasion, and kept the small number of anti Israel demonstrators far away. Our crowd thanked the NYPD.

The “Protest Zohran Mamdani” event received a lot of press coverage, including at: CBS News; The New York Post; Times of Israel; AMNY; i24News; and others.

Disgustingly, Democratic, Muslim New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif posted on X the following curse against protest attendees: “May Allah condemn you to Jahannam [hell],” and reposted that our peaceful protest was a “hate rally.” No, the real hate rallies – actually hate riots – are the pro Hamas riots encouraged by Mamdani that have threatened the safety of Jewish New Yorkers. That’s why we protested Tuesday night –and will keep protesting.

Several speakers spoke about how they, their parents, or grandparents came to New York years ago to escape antisemitic persecution, and helped build New York City.

HypocriticalLeftWingJewishLeadersDemand AmbassadorLeiterVoiceOppositionToAnti-IsraelJSt. With“Humility&RespectForDignityOfEveryJew”

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein released the following statement:

After Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Rabbi Dr. Yechiel Leiter legitimately and understandably condemned the “J Street Cancer” that lobbied to stop arms sales to Israel during wartime, far left wing, extremist, anti Israel J Street wrote a letter, signed by left wing Jewish leaders, attacking Ambassador Leiter and hypocritically demanding that disagreements must be conducted with “humanity, humility and respect for the dignity of every Jew” and that “leaders on both sides of the ocean bear a heightened responsibility to lower the flames rather than fan them further.”

That’s rich, considering how the Jewish lead ers who signed J Street’s letter — such as Union of Reform Judaism (URJ) President Rick Jacobs, Reform’s David Saperstein, Ambassdaor Dan Kurtzer, Head of National Council for Jewish Women, T’ruah CEO Jill Jacobs, Americans for Peace Now (APN) and New Israel Fund (NIF) — have spent years targeting, falsely maligning, dis respecting, name calling as racist, launching peti tions, attempting to oust from the Conference of Presidents, attempting to censor, and fanning the flames of hatred towards ZOA and ZOA President Morton Klein.

For example, Rabbi Rick Jacobs and other extreme left wing signatories, who years ago defended Black Lives Matter, went into full attack mode against ZOA and Mr. Klein, after Morton Klein legitimately and accurately pointed out that the Black Lives Matter/Movement for Black Lives (BLM/M4BL) organizations’ platform, Social Media, speeches and events promoted vicious anti Israel, anti Jewish blood libels and BDS; and that BLM/M4BL incited a vio lent antisemitic pogrom in Los Angeles and nationwide antis emitic Days of Rage; and met with and were affiliated with des ignated Terrorist Organization PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) and PFLP front groups; as well as being corrupt.

other current J Street letter signatory groups) falsely accusing ZOA & ZOA President Morton Klein of “racism” and called for ostracizing ZOA because ZOA condemned BLM/M4BL’s vicious antisemitism and anti Israelism.

And after ZOA respectfully requested an apology from those who falsely maligned ZOA and Mr. Klein, only one individual (Stuart Appelbaum of the Jewish Labor Committee) had the decency to apologize. Notably, none of the other groups that defamed and wrongly attempted to oust ZOA have ever apolo gized. When Morton Klein recently asked one of the major sign ers for a “private” apology, he began to scream at Mort in front of

Klein (showing him speaking and placing Mr. Klein in the middle of J Street’s infamous tic tac toe board of targets in J Street’s launch video) and targeted Christian Zionists such as Pastor John Hagee and Newt Gingrich (on the J Street target board’s other squares). J Street falsely accused these staunch Zionists of “blocking the path to peace,” and having “loud voices that don’t speak for you,” and condemned these Zionists for opposing pres suring Israel to give up her land to Palestinian terrorists. Where was J Street’s “humanity, humility and respect” and “lowering the temperature” when they falsely accused ZOA, Mort Klein and Christian Zionists of blocking peace, etc.?

It’s clear that left wing leaders only demand “respect, humanity and humility … and lower the temperature” when people they agree with are attacked—not when people they disagree with are attacked. In fact, left wing leaders themselves brutally and regularly attack people whose poli cies they disagree with.

Reform Leader Rick Jacobs, who led the campaign, didn’t simply (wrongly) defend and praise Black Lives Matter. Jacobs bellowed at a Conference of Presidents meeting that “Black Lives Matter is the civil rights movement of our time!” Jacobs and the other left wing signatories didn’t even try to engage in gentle manly debate, or attempt to rationally debunk the reams of evi dence that ZOA compiled, or “engage” with ZOA at all. Jacobs and the other left wing signatories never responded to Morton Klein with any of the “humanity, humility, and respect” that they now demand of Ambassador Leiter.

Instead, URJ President Rick Jacobs and the Conservative movement’s Rabbi Blumenthal launched a campaign to smear and remove ZOA and Morton Klein from membership in the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

Rick Jacobs initiated a letter with 15 other groups (including

Mort’s wife Rita to “get your face away from me.”

We wonder, where was Rick Jacobs’ and his comrades’ “humanity, humility and respect” for other Jewish leaders and responsibility for “lowering the flames” then?

In addition, signatories including New Israel Fund, a Reform Jewish group, and J Street launched a petition to remove ZOA from the Boston JCRC, primarily because of ZOA’s condem nation of the anti Israel group Black Lives Matter. NIF’s rep resentative admitted that he spent 8 months attempting to dredge up dirt to throw at ZOA for the petition. That’s “humanity, humil ity and respect”? ZOA had to waste precious time combating NIF’s, J Street’s, etc. phony charges and endure despicable attacks to successfully defeat their petition.

Furthermore, J Street organized a misleading astroturf letter from supposed “student leaders,” which falsely attacked ZOA as “racist,” “bigoted,” “Islamophobic,” and called for the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to oust and censure Conference Co Founding Charter Member ZOA. ZOA’s analysis of the signatories uncov ered that many were J Street officials and affiliates, or members of anti Israel groups such as: SJP, JVP and J Street offshoot If Not Now. Where was J Street’s and its fellow travelers’ “humanity, humility, and respect” and “lowering the flames” when it wrongly attacked ZOA for pointing out dangers to the Jewish community then? Again, no apology for their defamatory charges.

Notably, from the very outset, J Street targeted ZOA’s Morton

ZOA has not been the only victim of J Street and its co signers unrelenting, arrogant, duplici tous, disrespectful attacks and fanning the flames of hatred. J Street defames and damages the State of Israel, its people and its duly elected leaders in virtually every press release, speech, lobbying offensive and election funding operation – with no regard for “humanity, humility, respect” or “lowering the flames.” J Street’s recent cam paigns to cut off arms sales to Israel – while Israel is in the middle of a seven front existential war –is beyond the pale of any shred of decency or humanity towards Israel’s men, women and children.

J Street’s and its comrades’ attack on Ambassador Leiter for telling the truth is also case in point – especially after Ambassador Leiter suffered the pain of losing his heroic son Major (Res.) Moshe Yedidyah, a physician and father of six young children, who died in battle defending the Jewish people in north ern Gaza in November 2023.

And we must not forget another major J Street signatory, Soros funded T’ruah and its leader Jill Jacobs’ calls for halting weapons sales to Israel; and T’ruah’s vile campaign to defund and remove the tax exemption from the Central Fund of Israel (CFI). T’ruah’s campaign would prevent CFI from providing funds to 350 Israeli humanitarian charities dedicated to caring for and providing scholarships to special needs persons; providing nutri tion; poverty relief; combating ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease); bat tered women shelters and other women’s assistance; helping Ethiopians and other vulnerable groups obtain jobs; helping bereaved mothers, fathers, widows, orphans and siblings who have lost loved ones to terror and other tragedies to rebuild their lives and create meaning out of suffering; providing chickens to the needy; a news agency which provides accurate information; aid for Israeli expellees from Gush Katif (in Gaza) who are still suffering; funds for purchasing land; security; medical organi zations; humanitarian needs of soldiers; rabbinic training; and meals for the elderly in need.

Where is T’ruah’s humanity? Sorely missing.

ModernJewishTheology

The First One Hundred Years, 1835–1935

Modern Jewish Theology is the first compre hensive collection of Jewish theological ideas from the pathbreaking nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, featuring selections from more than thirty of the most influential Jewish thinkers of the era, explorations of Judaism’s identity, uniqueness, and relevance, the origin of ethical monotheism, and the possibility of Jewish existentialism. These works—most trans lated for the first time into English by top schol ars in modern Jewish history and philosophy—

extensive annotations immerse them in the lat est scholarship.

“Exciting! This anthology has the potential to help reframe the entire field of modern Jewish thought. Its study tends to leave out the nine teenth century almost totally—and yet, as the editors show, this was an extremely important period for the development of Jewish thought and the attempt to negotiate modern sensibili ties about religion and science.” — Robert Erlewine, Professor and Director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Eastern Michigan University and Author of Judaism and the West: From Hermann Cohen to Joseph Soloveitchik.

reveal how modern Jewish theology developed in concert with broader trends in Jewish intel lectual and social modernization, especially scholarship (Wissenschaft des Judentums), poli tics (liberalism and Zionism), and religious practice (movement Judaism and the struggles to transcend denominational boundaries).

This anthology thus opens to the English language reader a true treasure house of source material from the formative years of modern Jewish thought, bringing together writings from the very first generations, who imagined biblical and rabbinic texts and modern scientific research would produce a synthetic view of God, Israel, and the world. A general introduction and chapter introductions guide students and non specialists through the key themes and transformations in modern Jewish theology, and

“What a gold mine! You have before you the keys to a world of rich, provocative, and often still startlingly relevant Jewish thinking. There was a robust Jewish theological conversation before Heschel and Soloveitchik, before Kaplan and Levinas, before Plaskow and Adler, but only now, with this wonderful volume, has this vital world opened to non specialists and non German readers.” — Shai Held, President and Dean at Hadar and Author of The Heart of Torah.

Israel Must Launch A 24/7 Global Communications Effort To Counter Misinformation And Defend Jewish Communities Worldwide

Ronald Lauder speaking at the conference.

Speaking at The Jerusalem Post 2026 New York Conference, Ronald S. Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), called for the establishment of a new global news and pub lic relations operation backed by a $1 Billion budget and sup ported jointly by Israel and Jewish communities around the world.

Lauder argued that while Israel has demonstrated exceptional military capabilities, it has failed to adequately compete in the bat tle for global public opinion.

“Israel has been outstanding on the military front,” Lauder said. “But as good as it is militarily, that’s how bad it is on P.R. Israel cannot afford to ignore its public relations.”

Calling the communications challenge one of Israel’s most urgent strategic priorities, Lauder urged the creation of a dedi cated government operation staffed by experienced media and communications professionals.

“There should be a completely new and vitally important gov ernment operation, with a new director not just a political

U.S. Department of Justice Task Force on Antisemitism Chair Leo Terrell, Esq. with ZOA National President Morton Klein

Speaking Tuesday evening to Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) delegates ahead of the group’s annual advocacy mission in Washington, D.C., U.S. Department of Justice Task Force on Antisemitism Chair Leo Terrell, Esq. announced the launch of a 14 city tour to fight antisemitism.

“Antisemitism is local. It’s a failure of prosectors to prose cute. It’s a failure of teachers when they teach antisemitism in schools,” said Terrell. “We are bringing the message that either they prosecute or we will file a lawsuit against them.”

“Fighting antisemitism is a 24/7 commitment. I am there for you, the Justice Department is there for you and President Trump is there for you,” he added.

“Leo Terrell will go down in history as the best

appointee, but someone who knows PR and news backwards and forwards,” he said.

Lauder proposed that the initiative operate independently, in a dedicated facility, and function around the clock.

“It should be in a separate building, and it should have a billion dollar budget,” Lauder said. “it should be on day and night.”

The World Jewish Congress President emphasized that fund ing for the effort should come not only from Israel, but also from Jewish communities worldwide.

“Some of that billion dollars should come from Jews in the Diaspora,” Lauder said. “Diaspora Jews should partner with Israelis in this PR fight because in the end, it won’t just be pro tecting the Jewish state it will be protecting the Jewish people worldwide.”

Lauder argued that Israel’s response to misinformation and false narratives must become significantly more aggressive and coordinated.

“Israel’s counterattack should be relentless as well,” he said.

Questioning the current structure of Israel’s communications efforts, Lauder asked the audience: “Who is in charge of Israel’s P.R.? Can anyone tell me? The answer is really no one.”

Lauder’s proposal represents a call for a major new invest ment in Israel’s global communications capabilities and a new partnership between Israel and Jewish communities worldwide to strengthen the country’s voice on the international stage.

AddressingFoodInsecurityinMiami-Dade: How JCS Senior Services Programs Support Vulnerable Older Adults

Food insecurity continues to be a growing concern across Miami Dade County, particularly for older adults living on fixed incomes. Rising food costs, housing expenses, and transportation barriers have made it increasingly difficult for many seniors to access consistent, nutritious meals. For frail and vulnerable individuals, food insecurity is not sim ply a matter of hunger. It is a critical issue that affects health, threatens independence, and reduces overall quality of life.

A core part of Jewish Community Services of South Florida’s (JCS) mission is addressing food insecurity – particularly for vulnerable seniors. Through a multitude of food focused programs such as the JCS Delivers, Senior Ride, Congregate Meals, Kosher Food Bank, and Kosher Home Delivered Meals Programs, the agency works to ensure that older adults have access to nutritious, Kosher food, social engagement, and supportive services that allow these treasured community members to age in place with dignity.

Many seniors in Miami Dade County rely on fixed incomes from Social Security or other public benefits. A portion of the clients served by JCS live on less than $1,300 per month, with some surviv ing on as little as $900 monthly. For these indi viduals, even small increases in food costs can make it extremely difficult to eat three meals a day.

Public benefits such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) often help fill gaps in seniors’ diets. However, when SNAP benefits were suspended for the month of November 2025, many seniors faced an immediate food crisis. Without their life sustaining SNAP benefits, pur chasing groceries became nearly impossible for many of the clients served by JCS.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, JCS stepped in to provide grocery gift cards to seniors who rely on SNAP benefits. This emergency assis tance ensured that vulnerable older adults could continue purchasing food during a particularly challenging period. The response from clients was one of profound gratitude. For many, this support meant the difference between having food on the table and going hungry.

JCS Programs Supporting Senior Food Security

JCS Kosher Home Delivered Meals Program

JCS’ Kosher Home Delivered Meals Program provides pre made, frozen Kosher meals to homebound, nutritionally insecure seniors across Miami Dade County who are unable to prepare

shopping, doctor’s appointments, and community activities. The program provides more than just transportation, it offers seniors a vital connection to the services, support, and community they need to live independently. By offering safe, reliable rides to con gregate meal sites, grocery stores, and community activities, the program helps older adults maintain their health, autonomy, and social engagement.

JCS Congregate Meal Program

The JCS Congregate Meals Program serves a hot, Kosher lunch five days a week (excluding fed eral and Jewish holidays) in Miami Beach, and four days a week in Aventura.

By providing nutritious, Kosher meals in a wel coming community setting, the JCS Congregate Meals Program supports the well being of older adults while fostering meaningful social connec tion. The program offers more than just a meal; it creates a vibrant environment where seniors can engage in activities that promote physical, emo tional, and social health. With no income restric tions and inclusive participation, the program ensures all older adults have access to nourish ment, community, and friendship.

To address both immediate and long term food insecurity, JCS operates several interconnected programs designed to meet the diverse needs of older adults.

JCS Delivers Shopping Program

The JCS Delivers Shopping Program provides extremely low income, homebound seniors with personalized grocery deliveries and essential household items, ensuring they have access to the necessities needed to live safely and independently. Each delivery also serves as a wellness check, offering regular contact and care to some of the most isolated members of our community.

meals for themselves due to frailty.

Clients range in age from 60 to over 100, with many living on fixed incomes. Often, clients are below the poverty line of $15,560 annually for a single person. Many live alone, making this program a vital source not only of nutritious meals but also of social connection, regular wellness checks, and compassionate human contact.

JCS Senior Ride Program

The JCS Senior Ride Program provides reliable transportation for seniors to attend JCS’ congregate lunch meal sites, grocery

Maria’s Story

Maria (name has been changed), a JCS client and 82 year old Miami Beach resident living alone, survives on less than $900 per month in Social Security income. After paying rent, utilities, and medication expenses, very little remained for groceries. When her SNAP benefits were tem porarily suspended in November 2025, Maria did not know how she would afford to feed herself.

Through JCS services, she received assistance that helped stabilize her situation. She was pro vided with grocery gift cards during the SNAP dis ruption, transportation to grocery stores, and access to meals at the JCS Miami Beach Congregate Meal Site. These supportive services ensured that she continued to enjoy balanced, nutritious meals during a difficult time.

Today, she regularly attends the JCS Miami Beach Congregate Meal Site, where she not only receives a nutritious kosher lunch, but also partici pates in activities such as art classes and Bingo. She often shares that the program has helped her feel healthier, more connected, and less isolated. Food insecurity among older adults remains a significant chal lenge in Miami Dade County. Through strong community part nerships, dedicated staff, and the support of generous donors, JCS helps ensure that vulnerable seniors have access to nutritious food and compassionate care. For many, these services are a life line, providing the stability and support they need to age with dig nity, maintain their independence, and avoid the devastating con sequences of hunger and isolation.

WhoAreTheJews AndWhoCanWeBecome?

jps.org

Who Are The Jews—And Who Can We Become? Tackles perhaps the most urgent ques tion facing the Jewish people today: Given unprecedented denominational tribalism, how can we Jews speak of ourselves in collective terms?

Crucially, the way each of us tells our “shared” story is putting our collective identity at risk, Donniel Hartman argues. We need a new story, built on Judaism’s foundations and poised to inspire a majority of Jews to listen, dis cuss, and retell it. This book is that story. Since our beginnings, Hartman explains, the Jewish identity meta narrative has been a living synthesis of two competing religious covenants: Genesis Judaism, which defines Jewishness in terms of who one is and the group to which one belongs, independent of what one does or believes; and Exodus Judaism, which grounds identity in terms of one’s rela tionship with an aspirational sys tem of values, ideals, beliefs, commandments, and behaviors. When one narrative becomes too dominant, Jewish collective identity becomes distorted. Conversely, when Genesis and Exodus interplay, the sparks of a rich, compelling identity are found.

shed moment in our collective history. Hartman, a gifted teacher of Judaism, has succeeded in providing a language for understanding the divide between Israel and the Diaspora, the polarities dividing Israel, and the cultural and spiritual drift of North American Jews. Rabbis and educators will find it very useful as a text to initiate discussions about many core Jewish issues. As a Congregational Rabbi, I attest that I will delight in building an adult education course around this book.”—Rabbi Edward Feinstein, Senior Rabbi, Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, California.

Hartman deftly applies this Genesis Exodus meta narrative as a roadmap to addressing con temporary challenges, including Diaspora Jewry’s eroding relationship with Israel, the “othering” of Israeli Palestinians, interfaith marriage, the Israeli Palestinian conflict, and— collectively—who we Jews can become.

Praise

“Who are the Jews? Jewish tradition’s answer to this question is hidden in the stories of the Bible. In his new book, Donniel Hartman dives into these stories, reveals the answer, and uses it to shine a new light on the great chal lenges facing the state of Israel and the American Jewish community today. This is a fas cinating book—immersive and rewarding. I highly recommend it.”—Micah Goodman, Author of Catch 67: The Left, the Right, and the Legacy of the Six Day War and Maimonides and the Book That Changed Judaism.

“Rich, responsible, and provocative, this book is extremely important for anyone invested in the future of Judaism.”—Ishay Rosen Zvi, Chair, Department of Jewish Philosophy and Talmud, Tel Aviv University.

“Who Are the Jews—And Who Can We Become? Is an important book for this water

“In this groundbreaking book, Donniel Hartman takes on the great Jewish question of our time: who are we? Combining deep erudition with passion and love, Hartman explores the complexities of Jewish identity, writing with sympathy for the variety of ways in which we express our Jewishness even as he insists that we aspire to our highest val ues. Who Are the Jews—And Who Can We Become? Belongs on the short shelf of indispen sable books on contemporary Judaism.”—Yossi Klein Halevi, Author of Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor.

“Hartman adroitly argues that ‘as long as the story we tell ourselves about ourselves embraces and strengthens the complexity of our iden tities… we provide ourselves with the tools to expand our moral aperture,’ and invites essen tial debates about Judaism’s past, present, and future. This impresses.”—Publisher’s Weekly.

“This book bravely challenges age old ques tions about what it means to be a Jew, what has it meant to be a Jew historically, and what the future of Judaism might hold.”—Josh Hanft, Jewish Book Council.

Whether you’re a believer, an agnostic or an atheist, Schwartz will help you articulate what you’ve long held true— and maybe even change your mind here and there. “Open Judaism offers the Jewish people an opportunity and a challenge: the opportunity to find one’s voice within the Jewish tradition and the chal lenge to do so. Instead of trying to con trol and determine the essence of Judaism, Rabbi Barry Schwartz honestly charts the wide spectrum and possibili ties to believe, think, belong, and live Jewishly. Through Open Judaism, being Jewish is transformed into an empow ered journey of self discovery. For twenty first century Jews there can be no better answer to ‘Why be Jewish?’

Required reading.”—Rabbi Donniel Hartman, President, Shalom Hartman Institute.

“Rabbi Barry Schwartz possesses the rare ability to synthesize vast amounts of traditional and modern materials in an easily approachable manner. His inclu sive approach is a thoughtful and com prehensive portrait of Judaism and its beliefs that speaks to a broad and diverse audience. Those learned in Jewish faith and those who are novices will profit from this valuable work, as will all who are interested in the wisdom Judaism can offer in a complex and all too often baffling world.”—Rabbi David Ellenson, Chancellor Emeritus, Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion.

“This book should be read by eve ryone tasked with leading the Jewish community! Rabbi Barry Schwartz engages seekers of all kinds to think more deeply about their relationship to Judaism.”—Rabbi Kari H. Tuling, Author of Thinking about God: Jewish Views.

“This book has a remarkably impor tant mission: To help Jews with no abid ing interest in religion or study to become more engaged. It is genuinely pluralistic, and its unique topology of the nine most important dimensions of Judaism, categorized along the contin uum of believer to atheist, ably demonstrates that respected Jewish authorities share the

nuanced, provocative ideas even of those Jews who feel theologically alienated from Judaism. Many well educated Jews have spent their lives becoming Athenians; when they explore, they visit the capitals of Europe. They need a reason to spend some time in Jerusalem—and this book is that reason.”—Rabbi Edmond H. Weiss, Co Author of Making Arguments: Reason in Context.

“Open Judaism is a wonderful gift. It is par tisan for bringing the questing and questioning Jew into Judaism, essentially saying to Jews with less than certain theologies, or those who reject fundamentalist ideology: There is a place for you in Jewish life and practice. You can still find your home in Judaism. What is more, Open Judaism will be a great gift to the discourse within the Jewish community.”—Rabbi Neal Gold, Jewish Chaplain and Hillel Director, Babson College, and Founder of A Tree with Roots.

“Rabbi Schwartz’s ambitious book succeeds in pointing out how divergent opinions, dissent and debate have shaped Jewish thought. Furthermore, Rabbi Schwartz demonstrates the vast pluralism within Jewish tradition and argues persuasively that such pluralism strengthens Judaism rather than weakens it. This ethical, humanist, and inclusive book is highly rec ommended for those seeking to understand dif ferent, and yet authentic, approaches to Judaism.”—Association of Jewish Libraries Reviews.

“Guiding teachers and not just believers, atheists, and agnostics! As a teacher at a Jewish school, I will use Rabbi Schwartz’s book when I prepare next year’s theology curriculum because he offers multiple perspectives on important and vital topics of interest to teen agers of a wide range of beliefs. It also could be very helpful in college and adult education set tings. The bibliography and the notes for further reading offer a gold mine of resources.”—Rabbi Judd Kruger Levingston, Ph.D., Director of Jewish Studies, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy.

ROYAL BRIS THRONE

A central custom of every Bris (Brit Milah) is the use of the Chair of Elijah (Kisei Shel Eliyahu). Jewish tradition teaches that the prophet Elijah attends every Bris Milah as a witness to the eternal covenant between the Am Yisrael and Hashem. Before the ceremony begins, the baby is placed upon this special chair, add ing sanctity and spiritual significance to the mitzvah.

For centuries, Jewish communities have honored this tra dition by preparing a distinguished seat in honor of Elijah the Prophet. Truthfully, most Bris Milahs — including my own — were performed using a regular chair that was simply designated as the Chair of Elijah for the duration of the Bris, and that is absolutely proper and meaningful.

At the same time, Judaism teaches us the value of beautifying a mitzvah. If we have the opportunity to honor Elijah the Prophet and elevate this sacred moment with something beautiful, majes tic, and dignified, why not do it in the most special way possible?

The Sandek And The Royal Throne

One of the greatest honors at a Bris Milah is serving as the Sandek — the person who holds the baby during the Bris itself. The role of the Sandek is considered an especially meaningful mitzvah and is often compared to offering the sacred incense in the Holy Temple.

The Royal Bris Throne provides an elegant and distinguished seat for the Sandek, giving proper honor to both the mitzvah and the individual chosen for this cherished role. The grandeur of the chair adds beauty and significance to the ceremony while creating a memorable experience for family and guests alike.

A Beautiful Tradition At Chabad Chayil

Every Bris Milah is a moment filled with holiness, emotion, and generations of Jewish tradition. At Chabad Chayil, families now have the opportunity to celebrate this sacred mitzvah with our magnificent Royal Bris Throne — a breathtaking Chair of Elijah designed to bring beauty, dignity, and meaning to the occa sion.

We’ve been working on getting such a chair for quite a few years, and with Hashem’s help we finally found the right crafts man to pull it off.

“LittleEdna’sWar”AJewishGirl’s SurvivalAndResistance

The Memoir Reveals The True Story Of A Jewish Child In The Warsaw Ghetto And The Polish Resistance

Little Edna’s War by Janet Bond Brill, PhD, delivers a harrowing account of Jewish child hood during the Holocaust under Nazi terror. Written in first person and drawn from more than five hours of testimony recorded by the USC Shoah Foundation, Little Edna’s War pre serves a life that intersected with the defining events of the Holocaust and World War II.

Already recognized by BookLife Reviews as an Editor’s Pick and Highly Recommended by Midwest Book Review, the memoir traces the survival of Edna Szurek, a young Jewish girl born at Mila 18 the address that would later become the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising’s leg endary command bunker.

Dr. Michael Berenbaum, one of the world’s preeminent Holocaust scholars and Former Project Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, provides the foreword, call ing it “A haunting and beautifully rendered memoir that ensures the voices of survivors will never fade into silence.”

Disguised as a Catholic child after escaping the Warsaw Ghetto, Edna became the youngest known member of the Polish Home Army at age 9. By 12, Pope Pius XII decorated her for brav ery assisting the Polish Resistance, never know ing his “Catholic war hero” was actually a Jewish

child in hiding.

The Polish resistance recruited nine year old Edna as a courier, sending her through sew ers and sniper patrolled streets with messages that could mean life or death. Her courage earned medals and that papal audience, the ulti mate irony of her hidden identity.

She survived armed underground combat, the Wola Massacre, and capture as a prisoner of war. She was imprisoned at Oberlangen, the only all female POW Camp in Nazi Germany, before being liberated in April 1945 by the Polish 1st Armoured Division under British command.

This deeply personal project grew from Brill’s 37 year relationship with her mother in law and fills a crucial gap in Holocaust history.

“Survivors like my mother in law are leaving us,” says Author Janet Bond Brill, PhD. “I wrote this because our children face a world where denial and antisemitism are rising. Edna’s story proves that one little girl’s courage defeated Hitler’s Final Solution.”

BiblicalWomenSpeakHearingTheir VoicesThroughNewAndAncientMidrash

What were biblical women thinking and doing when the men around them received all the attention and glory? How did Leah, Rachel, and their handmaids negotiate the complicated family dynamics of four women vying for Jacob’s affections? What com pelled Potiphar’s wife to risk her high station to seduce Joseph, an enslaved foreigner? How did the midwives and Pharoah’s daughter conspire to rescue baby Moses, right under Pharoah’s nose?

Biblical Women Speak employs midrash (interpretative techniques) to discover ten biblical women’s stories from a female point of view and provide insights beyond how ancient male schol ars viewed them. Each chapter brings alive a dif ferent biblical woman, including non Israelite characters and others who are neglected in clas sical rabbinic texts, such as Keturah (Abraham’s last wife), Bat Shuah (Judah’s wife), Shelomith (the infamous blasphemer’s mother), and Noah (one of Zelophehad’s brave daughters who demanded inheritance rights). After each featured text we hear a creative retelling of the woman’s story in her own voice, followed by traditional midrash and medieval commentaries and the author’s reflections on how these tales and inter pretations are relevant for today.

Rabbi Marla J. Feldman’s book is an engaging invitation to enter biblical narratives, challenge conventional wisdom, and recalibrate the stories and lessons through the lens of our own lives. Praise

“Meeting these new role models of Jewish womanhood—some famous, others voiceless or infamous and nameless in the Torah—left me both enlightened and delighted. Reading the biblical text, rabbinic commentary, modern midrash, and Rabbi Feldman’s contemporary commentary illu minated four dimensions of these remarkable women.”—Maggie Anton, author of Rashi’s Daughters.

“Rabbi Marla J. Feldman is a marvelous teacher, and in Biblical Women Speak she proves to also be a weaver of ancient, modern, and origi nal texts that give voice to women of the Bible who were often ignored or nameless, filling a void that has existed for centuries. Accessible for both beginner and advanced students, Biblical Women Speak should be required in any class of midrash.”—Rabbi Ellen S. Wolintz Fields, Executive Director, Women’s League for Conservative Judaism.

“Rabbi Marla Feldman has created a dynamic and compelling conversation among the genera tions. Both individuals and groups will admire her captivating modern midrashic interpretations and her expert navigation of traditional texts. Feldman shows us how fresh and relevant our sacred tradition can be!”—Rabbi Mary L. Zamore, Executive

Director, Women’s Rabbinic Network.

“Rabbi Marla Feldman has added an imaginative, insightful contribution to our collective Jewish library. As she creatively gives voice to both familiar and lesser known female biblical char acters, she shows why their stories matter for us as contemporary

readers.”—Rabbi Andrea L. Weiss, Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Provost, Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion.

“I am very impressed by the author’s creativity and in depth

understanding of her characters… There are ten retellings (or sto ries) in this stunning collection… Most of the stories focus on characters that we don’t usually think about… What is most inter esting to me is how she enables us to empathize with these mar ginal biblical women. The book is arranged meticulously and is clearly well researched… I plan to use Feldman’s fascinating midrashim…in my future classes.”— Naomi Graetz, Times of Israel blog.

“Women in the Bible are often unnamed, defined solely by their relationships with others. Take Judah’s wife, for example. She is known as Bat Shua, or ‘daughter of Shua.’ This labeling, or lack thereof, makes it easy for stories like hers to be subsumed by those of men. Feldman, by con trast, dives into these women’s stories, bringing them to life with depth and insight. Feldman’s analysis of Miriam’s story is a standout of the book.”—Jewish Book Council.

“For the most part the sages neglected these minor [female] characters or viewed them nega tively. Feldman brings this conversation into the modern era: She composes midrashim that turn these biblical characters into real human beings, facing problems familiar to those of women (and men) today…who deserve our attention and our respect, and who should never be cast out of our community.”—Moment Magazine.

“Readers looking to better understand midrash will particularly enjoy the sections on classic commentary, while those interested in new ways of understanding the text will find the con temporary midrash of interest. Biblical Women Speak would also make an excellent text for Torah discussion groups.”—The Reporter, Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton.

“An inspirational book which speaks to us of the issues of our times… through Jewish classical, modern and feminist lenses… A masterpiece of scholarship, creativity and exquisite writing.”— The Jerusalem Report.

“Like the traditional rabbis and commen tators, [Rabbi] Feldman tells biblical verses, and midrashic commentaries, and lifts them out of their context, refashions them, and creates new understandings which can speak to us in our day.”—Women in Judaism e journal.

“Few things are more powerful than bringing a voice to the voiceless. Biblical Women Speak is an excellent model for what bringing a voice to the voiceless can look like in the twenty first century. Our rabbinic community will benefit from the masterful work.”–CCAR Journal: The Reform Jewish Quarterly.

Rep.RandyFineatatTheJerusalemPostNewYorkConference: “TheDemocraticPartyIsEmbracingAntisemitism”

Congressman Randy Fine (R FL) delivered a forceful address at The Jerusalem Post 2026 New York Conference, warning about rising antisemitism in the United States, praising President Donald Trump’s support for Israel and the Jewish community, and calling on Jews to stand proudly and fight for their future.

Fine, the first Jewish Republican ever elected to Congress from Florida, reflected on the challenges facing the Jewish people and emphasized the importance of strength and resilience in confronting antisemitism.

“In the 3,000 year history of the Jewish people, those who have prospered the most have been those who have leaned into the fight,” Fine said. “We are fortunate to have friends in that fight, and we have no greater friend than Donald J. Trump.”

The Florida congressman argued that American Jews have benefited significantly from Trump’s leadership and contrasted the approaches of the two major political parties toward antisemitism.

“Israel has never had a greater ally than President Trump, but American Jews have never had a greater ally than President Trump either,”

obtaining nuclear weapons.

“We face the challenge of ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon,” he said. “Fortunately, we have a president who doesn’t just make promises he keeps them.”

Fine also spoke about what he described as the emergence of a new generation of Jews who are unafraid to stand up for themselves and their identity.

“There is a new kind of Jew the one who is not afraid, the one who is willing to fight,” Fine said. “I can fight for you in Washington, but I am just one voice. We must stand up, and we must fight with all of our strength and all of our power.”

Concluding his remarks, Fine delivered a message of confidence and determination for Jewish communities in the United States and around the world.

“We are here to stay. We are going nowhere,” he said. “We are proud of who we are, and together we will ensure that the United States remains safe for Jews, that Israel remains strong, and that our days ahead will be greater than those behind us.”

Addressing the threat posed by Iran, Fine described the Islamic Republic’s decades long hostility toward the United States and Israel and stressed the need to prevent Tehran from

ZOAPhiladelphiaDirectorSteveFeldman WasInvitedSpeakerBeforePAHuman RelationsCommissionOnJew-Hatred

ZOA Philadelphia Region Director Steve Feldman released the following message:

The commonwealth of Pennsylvania is rife with anti Jewish activity – including by govern ment agencies and institutions. It is one of the reasons that we organized our 2025 Mission to Harrisburg. The most recent example occurred several weeks ago when the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission – which was established to fight discrimination – announced it was having an event that was thoroughly anti Jewish! See below for details.

On Monday, May 18th, 2026 I addressed the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission during the public comment period of the Commission’s monthly meeting – by invitation. I was the only person from outside the Commission to address the meeting, which was attended by the Commission chairman, other commissioners, Commission officials and staff.

I was invited to speak at the meeting by the Commission’s Director of Policy, Intergovernmental Affairs and Mediation, Alana Burman, after raising strong objection to a pub licly announced and promoted severely anti Jewish event the Commission was presenting later this month.

The original title of the program was “How Anti Muslim Hate and Fears of Antisemitism Prop Up [a] Pro Israel Facade.” After apparent early negative feedback, the Commission changed the title, making it even worse, to: “How Antisemitism Is Exploited to Drive Islamophobia.” Both of the announced present ers/experts for this event are officials of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which is under federal indictment for allegedly funding hate groups, including anti Jewish hate groups.

Upon learning of this event, I did some fact finding, including speaking with Commission insiders, and I had a heated conversation with a Commission official. My concerns, my passion and my own experience exposing and fighting

Jew hatred – which I related to the Commission official – apparently led her to invite me to address the Commission.

When I was recognized, I began by intro ducing myself – I included my position at ZOA and my prior career – 44 years dedicated to identifying and fighting Jew hatred. I noted also that ZOA is a 128 year old educational and advocacy organization for the well being of the Jewish community, and that we promote Israel and Zionism.

I then asserted that there is a problem within the Commission due to the fact that this program was thought to be ok by leadership. I pointed out that Jew hatred has nothing to do with anti Islamic hatred, that anti Jewish hatred is authentic and is not being weaponized for any purpose.

I then proceeded to focus on the endemic anti Jewish manifestations in public schools in the commonwealth – mentioning the ubiq uitous displays of the PLO flag, and false claims against Israel, and the erasure of Jewish history

and facts about Israel, Jewish history and Zionism – I included the false claims about “genocide” in Gaza.

Chairman Jones interjected about “coun try” flags and I replied that it is not a country flag – that there is no “Palestine” and that the United States does not recognize “Palestine.” Jones then mentioned that there was a graf fiti incident – antisemitic, anti Muslim, anti black — at a school in Roxborough, and that the Commission condemned it.

I then interjected: “With all due respect commissioner, graffiti can be washed away in a minute” and that it was not done in the class room. But what children are indoctrinated with day in and day out in the classroom where they are compelled to attend cannot be washed away so easily – and they will bring it with them when in their careers. It is a matter of current dis crimination and future discrimination.

To illustrate how bad the situation is for Jews in school, I mentioned the fourth grader in the suburban school who stood up in class and said “I want to kill all the Jews.”

Jones condemned that, and said that he is a City Councilman in Philadelphia, and he has a reputation as a “straight shooter.”

I expressed interest in being in touch with him, and I called on the Commission to inves tigate the Jew hatred in Pennsylvania’s schools. He said he would be in touch. Then there was a motion for adjournment and the meeting ended.
