The Edwards Twins Impersonators Eddie was born in 1965 and raised in Burbank California with his identical twin brother Anthony. Both boys were fascinated with celebrities at a very early age.

Living near the famous NBC TV studios in Burbank, they would sneak in and watch various TV shows being taped. At home, the brothers would then play together mimicking the stars and memorizing the skits from “The Sonny and Cher Show” “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Laugh In.” Eddie’s voice was higher pitched then Anthony so he usually got to play the females. Eddie’s first celebrity impersonation was that of Lily Tomlin’s alter ego Ernestine the Operator. Who would have guessed that years later Eddie would have the opportunity to impersonate Earnestine for Lily Tomlin.

One Halloween at the famous night club in Beverly Hills California “La Cage aux Follies” Eddie dressed up as a woman and was asked that night by employees if he had ever thought about impersonating Barbara Streisand.

?Shortly thereafter, Eddie began seriously studying the art of makeup application and learning the ”tricks of the trade” he needed to help him create the illusion of turning an “ordinary looking male into a spectacular world famous female.” After auditioning 16 times, Eddie was hired by the world famous La Cage aux Follies and for years traveled the globe impersonating Barbara Streisand and Bette Midler. Just like audiences from Singapore, Miami, Aruba, Japan, China, and The Bahamas, the casting director of La Cage was stunned not only by Eddie’s appearance, but by his uncanny ability to perform EXACTLY like the women he was impersonating.

Eddie was then asked to perform for five years on the Las Vegas strip in the famous show “Evening at La Cage” where he met and performed for Cher and Bette Midler at Caesars Palace. American television icon, Carol Burnett, played a major role in the Twins’ success. When Eddie was performing on the premier of her TV show, she suggested that the two brothers combine their forces and do a show together. They took her advice and Eddie joined his identical twin Anthony, and they started to perform their own starfilled spectacular “Celebrities on Stage.”

In their show, Eddie performs as Barbara Streisand, Cher, and Bette Midler.

Eddie also performs his original song, “I Am My Father’s Son” which explains the acceptance of his father’s understanding for what Eddie does for a living. This song has significant meaning for Eddie.

While she was recording Tapestry, James Taylor recorded King’s “You’ve Got A Friend,” taking the song all the way to No. 1. In a first for a female writer/artist, Tapestry spawned four GRAMMY Awards® — Record, Song and Album Of The Year as well as Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female honors for Carole. The following year brought her The Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, and she became the first woman to be awarded The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, presented by President Barack Obama at an all-star White House gala.

Carole, who has lived on an Idaho ranch since the early ’80s, is actively involved with environmental organizations in support of wilderness preservation.

Hollywood - For the first 50 years of her exciting life, Judy Harel had never had vision problems.

Using the computer and reading for several hours, there wasn’t a need to worry about her eyesight. But then, like anything in life, changes started to happen - and when it was a battle to see clearly, something had to be done.

“I knew things weren’t right when I couldn’t see at all,” she recalled. “I had to wear those magnified glasses just to read, and that was really crazy. You just knew that something wasn’t right.”

While it became a struggle to see at times, her life was certainly enhanced when she moved to South Florida two years ago. In addition to the great year round weather, she also found Dr. Stanley Braverman. That is when things really began to change.

“I remembered the first time I met Dr. Braverman - it was for a routine eye exam,” Harel said. “You could tell that if I ever needed anything major, this is where I would come.”

With the Braverman Eye Center moving to Hollywood this past summer, Harel followed since it was so close to the old office - and that is when she found that

the problems with her eyes could be corrected. She even did away with the thought of getting a second opinion when listening to what Dr. Braverman had to say.

With one eye treated for near vision and the other having a distance LASIK performed, the 57-year-old was so impressed with the procedure she started to tell everyone she could. The experience and the way her life changed was amazing.

“Where do I start,” she asked. “From the first free consultation they offered, you just knew that this was going to be a positive all the way around. I was explained in great detail about the procedure, recovery and what to expect. Also, prior to the procedure, Dr. Braverman and Rosemary (Hartford) answered anything and everything, which was very comforting.

The experience the entire Braverman Eye Center provided was indeed a memorable one for Harel. In fact, it was so impressive that her good friend had the procedure done and she continues to spread the word.

“The only regret I had was not having this done before,” Harel pointed out. “It

Topical anesthetic drops are applied to the eye. The surgeon first uses a special Ziemer LDV femtosecond laser to create a thin layer of corneal tissue that can be folded back (a corneal flap). CITY NEWS History in Your Neighborhood - The Ancient Spanish Monastery

Construction of the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux was begun in the year 1133 AD in Sacramenia, near Segovia in northern Spain.

Completed eight years later in 1141, the Monastery was dedicated to the Blessed Mother and was originally named ‘The Monastery of Our Lady, Queen of the Angels.’

Upon the canonization of Bernard of Clairvaux in 1174, the Monastery

was renamed in his honor. A Cistercian monk and mystic, the founder and abbot of the Abbey of Clairvaux, Bernard was one of the most influential church leaders of his time. Cistercian monks occupied the Monastery for nearly 700 years. After a social revolution in the 1830’s, the Monastery’s Cloisters were seized, sold, and converted into a granary and stable.

In 1925, William Randolph

Hearst purchased the Cloisters and the Monastery’s outbuildings. The structures were dismantled stone by stone, bound with protective hay, packed in more than 11,000 wooden crates, numbered for identification and shipped to the

United States. Soon after the shipment arrived, Hearst’s financial problems forced most of his collection to be sold at auction. The massive crates remained in a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, for 26 years.

One year after Hearst’s’ death in 1952, they were purchased by two entrepreneurs for use as a tourist attraction. It took 19 months and the equivalent of nearly $20 million dollars (in today’s currency) to put the Monastery back together. In 1953 Time magazine called it “the biggest jigsaw puzzle in history.”

In 1964, Colonel Robert Pentland, Jr, who was a multimillionaire banker, philanthropist and benefactor of many Episcopal churches, purchased the Cloisters and

presented them to the Bishop of Florida. Today the parish Church of St. Bernard de Clairvaux is an active and growing congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. Services are held on Sundays and weekdays in both English and Spanish.

The magical master of rhyme and word play, Dr. Seuss, otherwise known as Theodor Seuss Geisel, has been captivating the minds of children and adults alike for 80 years. This production is part of the Smart Stage Production Series for grade levels K-3.

The Cat in the Hat is a children’s book written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel under the pen name Dr. Seuss and first published in 1957. The story centers on a tall anthropomorphic cat, who wears a red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie. The Cat shows up at the house of Sally and her unnamed brother one rainy day when their mother is away. Ignoring repeated objections from the children’s fish, the Cat shows the children a few of his tricks in an attempt to entertain them.

In the process he and his companions, Thing One and Thing Two, wreck the house. The children and the fish become more and more alarmed until the Cat produces a machine that he uses to clean everything up. He then says his goodbyes and disappears just before the children’s mother walks in.

Geisel created the book in response to a debate in the United States about literacy in early childhood and the

ineffectiveness of traditional primers such as those featuring Dick and Jane. Geisel was asked to write a more entertaining primer by William Spaulding, whom he had met during World War II and who was then director of the education division at Houghton Mifflin. However, because Geisel was already under contract with Random House, the two publishers agreed to a deal: Houghton Mifflin published the education edition, which was sold to schools, and Random House published the trade edition, which was sold in bookstores.

Geisel gave varying accounts of how he created The Cat in the Hat, but in the version he told most often he was so frustrated with the word list from which he could choose words to write his story that he decided to scan the list and create a story based on the first two words he found that rhymed. The words he found were cat and hat.

America’s Funniest People Star Vic DiBitetto Steps up to the Mic this Month He’s been called a “cross between Rodney Dangerfield and Ralph Kramden” and “The Italian Hurricane of Comedy,” but Vic DiBitetto is truly a talent like no other. Famous for his frenetic pace, vivid language and punchline-asecond style, DiBitetto has been known to whip the crowd into a hysterical frenzy. His own sitcom (Hulu’s Don’t Know Jack) was the latest in a long list of achievements for this Brooklyn-born comic, including winning America’s Funniest People on ABC and racking up 22 million views on YouTube (check out his “Bread and Milk” sketch and Justin Bieber rants).

About Nick: DiBitetto was born in 1961 in Brooklyn, New York, of Italian descent. He started doing stand-up in 1981 at Pips Comedy Club, which was located in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

In 1991, DiBitetto made his first television appearance on America’s Funniest People with his son, Michael, and was the $10,000 Grand Prize Winner for their home video of a mock ventriloquist act.

In February 2013, in response to the February 2013 nor’easter, DiBitetto created a YouTube video entitled “Bread and Milk,” which received over 16 million views. The video has since then been shown on The View, CNN, The Today Show, and local weather channels.

DiBitetto has claimed that this video, along with his internet following, is what eventually got him his stardom in show business, stating that “thirty seconds of stupidity brought [him] more recognition than thirty years of stand-up.”

The following year, DiBitetto received a phone call from Kevin James, who had personally asked him to appear in a minor role in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015). James had told DiBitetto that he was so impressed by his YouTube videos that he created the “Mall Cop” character, Gino Chizetti, based on Tony Gaga, a recurring character in DiBitetto’s videos.

Along with his “Bread and Milk” video, other notable videos that went viral created by DiBitetto include a rant about not wanting to “Drive To Florida;” a reaction to

Justin Bieber’s 2014 arrest; an encounter with a creepy clown that was seen walking around Staten Island, New York; and a rant about Kanye West’s behavior on the 2015 Grammy Awards.

DiBitetto also has a miniweb series on his YouTube channel entitled “The Shed.” The series takes place in his backyard and involves the construction of a shed that DiBitetto bought from Sam’s Club, and the adventures that follow it after the shed is finished being built.

Prior to achieving notoriety with his internet videos and tri-state stand-up tour, DiBitetto worked as a school bus driver for Pioneer Transportation in Staten Island, New York.

CITY NEWS Lessons Learned In Hiring A Private Aide By the daughter of an Aventura mom

Finally, I found the perfect person to look after mom, who could no longer live alone safely. Marie, the aide, was referred by another aide in mom’s building, who seemed to take great care of a very demanding neighbor who was showing signs of confusion like my mother. During the interview process, Marie demonstrated patience, attentiveness to mom’s needs, and had glowing references. I even called two of them, who were out of state, but who affirmed how good Marie was to them or their family member. What a relief! After three weeks in Florida, I finally was able to return to my family in Ohio and feel that mom was in good hands.

At first, all was fabulous. Mom said Marie helped her with showering, picking out her clothes, made small meals, and they went to dinner a lot. Mom also said Marie helped her clean out her drawers and closets, and helped her organize her things.

Then, mom began to complain that Marie moves things around, and mom cannot find them. She told Marie to keep things in one place, and that Marie raised her voice to her. I spoke to Marie, who

said mom moves things around herself, and then cannot find them. I suggested that since mom can get confused, it might be best to organize things the way it would be easier for her. The next day, mom called and said her diamond ring and earrings were missing, and the $400 spare money that she has kept in the corner of her bedside table for years was also missing. I asked to speak to Marie. Mom informed me that Marie went down to the store and had not yet returned.

When I called back later, mom said Marie still had not returned and she did not know what she should do for dinner. I called Security in mom’s building. They had not seen the aide since she left in the morning. I asked them to check on mom.

Feeling upset myself, I called another neighbor, asking if she could either include my mother in her dinner plans or help mom order delivery from a local restaurant, and then see to it that she had something for breakfast in the morning. I called the Aventura police to report a possible theft, and booked an early morning flight back to Florida.

What an ordeal followed. However, at least mom was not physically harmed!

Although, I had resisted going through

an agency due to a slightly higher cost, I began a rapid search of getting competent help as soon as possible, calling mom’s doctors and going online. The name Always Classic Care came up several times. When I called, the staff was most professional asking about mom’s status and needs. The owner, Terry Adler, joined the conversation with more specific questions about mom’s personality and capability status, as well as my concerns and services I felt mom would need. Terry advised me that she and her staff would confer immediately to select the most suitable aide, and that she would personally supervise the case. To my surprise, once paperwork was completed with staff, Terry called me back to report she had someone very special for mom who could start later that evening or first thing in the morning. I was amazed. Well, mom hit it off with the new aide immediately, and she has now been with mom for the over a year. It definitely was a great match.

Although I had avoided going through an agency because of the slightly higher cost, it took a bad experience for me to realize the many advantages of using a home health agency or nurse registry.

Aside from dealing with professionals, home health agencies are regulated by the State of Florida. All of their healthcare

workers must submit to a rigorous screening process that includes FBI fingerprinting for any history of wrong doing. A registered agency such as Always Classic Care requires a personal interview conducted by a professional staff who also scrutinize documentation of training, references and work history, and applicants are required to complete pre-employment testing as to knowledge of various levels of care. Also, if there is any problem, question, personality or communication issue once the aide is assigned, the agency will get involved and make immediate changes. And, as in the case of the missing Marie, Terry told me they would have become integrally involved in the investigation. I found that the agency may cost a few dollars more per hour than a private hiring, but now, the cost seems minimal when compared to the open communication and peace of mind that it can bring.

From City To Nature: Oleta River State Park

North Miami Beach - As thousands and thousands of motorists each week, drive between Sunny Isles Beach and the mainland, there is a slice of heaven that many are missing.

Nestled away from the noise and potential pollutants that fills any big city, sits an oasis. One that has been in place for decades and decades. Florida’s largest urban park, Oleta River State Park, is located on Biscayne Bay in the busy Aventura / North Miami Beach area.

Although it offers a variety of recreational opportunities, the park is best known for miles of off-road bicycling trails, ranging from novice trails to challenging trails for experienced bicyclists.

“We have been coming here for at least 10 years,” Carolina Miller of Aventura said. “When my husband and I first met, this was one of the places we came because we love recreational sports - and still do.”

The Millers usually bike there nearly four miles from their home in Aventura a few times a

month - to take in the many things available.

Along the Oleta River, at the north end of the park, a large stand of beautiful mangrove forest preserves native South Florida plants and wildlife.

Canoeists and kayakers can paddle the river to explore this amazing natural area.

The Millers have gotten involved with kayaking, and they admit that the scenery along the water is some of the best they’ve viewed.

“The great thing about this park is that you are like a mile off the road - and it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere,” Miller explained. “I think this is one of the great things about living down here.”

There are so many options at Oleta River State Park. From swimming along a 1,200-foot sandy beach - to saltwater fishing - there are so many things to do. In addition, picnic tables and grills are available. There’s also one large picnic pavilion and eight medium pavilions that can be rented for a fee.

The large picnic pavilion, White Ibis, has electricity.

Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, and bicycles from the park concessionaire, BG Oleta River. For overnight visits, the park has rustic, air-conditioned cabins and a youth campground for organized groups. Cabins can be reserved through ReserveAmerica or on a walk-in basis.

There are always events going on at the park. Here are a few to check out: • Oleta Trail Blazers Work Day Oleta River State Park Sunday, January 21 - 9:00am to 2:00pm.

Come out and help the Oleta Trail Blazer mountain bike group as they volunteer to help improve the mountain biking trails in the park.

Volunteering with this group includes but is not limited to cutting small exotic trees, adding dirt to trails, repairing ramps and bridges, building new features to the trail, trimming back vegetation and much more!

If you love to ride in Oleta River State Park and also want to help make the park even better, we hope to see you at a volunteer day in the future! Tools and equipment will be provided by the park.

3 Signs It’s Time To Seek Alternative Treatments For Overly Medicated Kids Parents of children suffering from ADD, ADHD or other brain-based disorders can grow frustrated and even desperate as they seek to stem the difficulties they and their children face daily.

Often, medicating the children becomes not just a last resort, but a first resort.

“Parents will try whatever they can to help their child, and that includes turning to prescription drugs,” says Dr. Ed Carlton, founder of the Carlton Neurofeedback Center (www.carlton neurofeedbackcenter.com) and author of the book The Answer.

“While these can prove effective, they have a long list of potential side effects. They don’t correct the underlying cause of the ADD or ADHD symptoms, and they must be taken daily.”

Carlton says there are plenty of reasons why parents would want to get their children off medications, but just a few signs that it’s time to make that move include: • The child doesn’t like the way the drugs make them feel. Prescription

drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall have a number of side effects. They can cause a teenager or child to have trouble sleeping.

They can lead to dry mouth, headaches, dizziness, irritability and anxiety.

• The child is losing weight. One additional side effect of Ritalin and Adderall is a loss of appetite. Some children start to lose weight at an unhealthy rate. For some, the weight loss might be a minor thing, but for others it can be a significant and swift drop in weight, and that’s naturally going to be alarming to parents, Carlton says.

• Cost is becoming too much. When drugs take care of the symptoms, but not the underlying causes of a problem, their use becomes never ending.

“To be effective, drugs like Ritalin and Adderall must be taken daily,” Carlton says. “Over time, parents end up spending a lot of money and their children aren’t seeing permanent results.”

Carlton knows from personal experience what it’s like to seek drug-free treatments for brain-based disorders. Years ago, he suffered from bipolar disorder and felt as if he

“spent half my life in line at the pharmacy” until he discovered neurofeedback training.

Already a health professional, he evolved over time from neurofeedback patient to practitioner.

Carlton refers to neurofeedback as “fitness training for the brain.” It uses “operant conditioning,” a term that refers to the brain’s natural ability to learn from experience, which in turn can help it heal.

Here’s how it works: The process begins with a brain map, which locates the specific areas that need help to function more efficiently.

Once these areas are identified, neurofeedback training can improve their function. The technology uses computers to monitor brain-wave patterns while the patient relaxes and watches a movie or video.

The visual and audio inputs are varied, providing feedback based on the training goals from the brain map. The results are lasting and there are no side effects, Carlton says.

Dr. Adler Using Laser In Battle Against Toe Fungus

According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, approximately 40% of patients visiting a podiatrist have complaints or signs of toe fungus. It may begin with tenderness or pain in the toe, developing into an unsightly thick, darkened nail, and it can spread from toe to toe. In fact, the fungus can get so out of control that it can infect the foot and ankle.

Topical treatment such as Lamisil cream usually is the first course of therapy for a mild or moderate case. However, long-term use or oral antifungal medication is not recommended due to the toxic side effects Lamisil can have on the liver. This is a special risk if a patient is taking other medications, including excessive use of Tylenol that can manifest the same hepatic damage.

Over the past few years, Dr. Charlton Adler has been following closely the application and reported results of laser therapy on fungus toenails and other podiatric and wound situations. He is pleased to announce that he now is able to add this service as a therapeutic option in his office in North Miami Beach.

“The introduction of laser in treating toe fungus has had a major impact on attacking this uncomfortable and unsightly problem,” says Dr. Adler. He further explains that Onychomycosis, the medical term for fungal infection of the nail, is often ignored because it can be present for years without causing pain.

“When the fungus imbeds itself under the nail,” he adds, “the nail surface can become darker in color and the area can develop an odor. The fungus lives on debris under the nail, and white marks can appear on the nail plate.”

Approved for the treatment of nail fungus five years ago by the Food and Drug Administration, the special appeal of lasers is that it selectively heats and destroys harmful fungi while sparing healthy surrounding skin. Because of the intensity of the heat generated by laser rays, Enrique Mechulon a specially trained and certified laser technician working with Dr. Adler, says that both he and the patient wear laser protective glasses and take several rest periods during the 40-minute process.

“I have already witnessed many suc-

cess stories where patients have spent years and thousands of dollars to get rid of their nail fungus,” says Mechulon.

“Depending on the patient’s general health and nail problem, it can take anywhere from one to nine treatments, but the results are there with minimum risk to the body,” he adds.

“I wanted to offer this therapy for quite a while,” says Dr. Adler. “However, I am cautious in my approach, and I needed more proof on studies and reports.” Dr. Adler adds that research shows that 80% of all toe fungus has been healed using laser therapy. “This is in contrast to topical ointments that only work 50% of the time,” says Adler, “and with topical treatment, the infection usually returns.”

Here’s how the tax reform plan could affect you (BPT) - With the newly passed tax reform bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), now is the time to start thinking about how this will affect you so that you can plan ahead for the outcomes you will start to feel in your paycheck as early as February 2018.

This tax reform affects virtually everyone; however, families, homeowners, residents of high-tax states, the medically uninsured and small businesses will be especially affected. Most taxpayers will experience changes that could reduce or increase their taxes owed.

If you’re not sure how this may affect you, here is a summary of possibilities:

Families Like most taxpayers, many families will be affected by the loss of personal and dependent exemptions of $4,050 per person. However, families with income under $200,000 ($400,000 for joint filers) will be eligible

for an increased child tax credit of $2,000. Those with income over that amount may be eligible for a smaller credit. This, along with larger standard deductions, may or may not make up for the loss of the personal exemption.

Families with dependents over the age of 16 may also qualify for a new family tax credit of $500 for each dependent who does not qualify for the child tax credit.

Homeowners and residents of high-tax states Homeowners and residents of high-tax states like California, New York and New Jersey, who typically itemize because they have large expenses like real estate taxes and state and local income taxes, may not be able to get the full tax benefit for these expenses, which are capped at $10,000. Some may not find it worthwhile to itemize going forward.

Medically uninsured Starting in 2019, there will no longer be a penalty for those without health insurance. The penalty, which had become more and more expensive since first implemented in 2014, will not apply to taxpayers without insurance in 2019.

5 tips for speed cleaning your home (BPT) - What is one of the biggest sources of stress?

It’s cleaning on a deadline, especially when guests are on their way.

But with the right plan in place, even last-minute cleaning can be efficient and stress-free, says Debra Johnson, Merry Maids home cleaning expert.

In an online survey conducted by Toluna, more than half of respondents admitted that most of their cleaning takes place just before guests arrive. With a bit more focus, this preparation can be quick and effective, without stress. After all, parties shouldn’t be a race against the clock.

Johnson shares the following tips to clean smarter, not harder, in the limited time you have before guests arrive.

1. Ready, set... declutter The important first step is to declutter rooms. Set a timer if needed to help you stay on track and avoid

spending too much time in one room. Put things where they belong, or if they don’t have a home, put them in a room or under beds where no one will see. Save decluttering those hidden storage areas for later. Prioritize rooms you use most, so if you run out of time, guests won’t notice an untidy area.

2. Only clean what guests will see Join the more than onethird of Americans who don’t bother cleaning rooms people won’t see.

You have enough to stress about as the host. Don’t waste your precious time cleaning parts of the home no one will ever see.

Simply shut doors to rooms that you want to keep private, signaling guests not to enter. If you have family staying with you, give guest rooms a once-over, clean the bathrooms that will be used

and, of course, the kitchen and living room.

3. Skip the sweep Don’t spend time sweeping with a dry mop when you can vacuum instead. Vacuuming is far more efficient and faster at removing dust, dirt and other debris from the floors. Keep a portable hand-held vacuum nearby in case of a big mess, like a glass breaking during a party. Within seconds, the mess will be gone and you can go back to enjoying the festivities.

4. Speed-clean the bathrooms All you need to clean your bathroom quickly is a damp microfiber cloth to give every surface a quick wipe-down and a toilet brush to clean the inside walls of the toilet. To freshen it up even more, pour a half-cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl

and add white vinegar along with a few drops of your favorite essential oils.

Allow the mixture to bubble for a bit and scrub with a toilet brush. Then, voila: your bathroom is clean, shiny and smelling great.

5. Tackle the microwave mess You know people will want seconds well after the leftovers are put away, so use this tip to tackle microwave build-up: Combine lemon juice and water in a microwave-safe bowl and run it for about 2 minutes. The lemon water will loosen any gunk or food in the microwave for an easy wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Now guests can reheat their leftovers in a clean microwave.
