Dynamoms Fitness Brings Motherhood To A New Level No More Excuses. Baby & Mom Can Now Exercise Together - In A Family Environment
AUGUST 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 8
As a youngster growing up, exercise and diet were always important to Analisa Kuk. Always understanding the importance of diet and exercise, she was faced with a decision when she had her first child. While many use children as the perfect excuse to stop exercising and eating right - Analisa did the opposite. Instead of giving up something that had been such a big part of her life, she found a way to combine - being a mother - and still getting in the workouts that she long enjoyed. The result of her idea to combine motherhood and exercise has resulted in something special. Dynamoms Fitness in the heart of “Fashion Row” in Hallandale Beach is home to a new concept. One that has caught on since they opened their doors last month. “This may not be new, but the way we run things are different than you will find anywhere,” said the
owner and exercise teacher. “What this has done is giving moms who can’t find babysitters an opportunity to stay fit before or after pregnancy and keep to their healthy lifestyles.” On any given day three sessions in the morning and others in the afternoon - moms and their children show up to get a true workout, while their kids either play in a designated area or dance and workout with mom. The bonding is amazing. “When you come into these doors, stress is turned off,” Analisa said, with a smile. “We have established a family atmosphere - where there are so many options to keep kids busy and active. I absolutely love being a mom, and I am passionate about exercising and connecting with my body.” Analisa, with the support of her husband and two children has been able to launch this unique way of staying fit. She grew up watching her parents stay
very active. They instilled her love for fitness, and she wanted to do the same with her children. She has always been very passionate about it. “Another of the major motivations in starting Dynamoms Fitness was the fact that I did not want to see my own children playing video games or watching TV while I was exercising in another room,” she explained. I want all children to be active, energetic, happy, healthy, disciplined, with a strong self-esteem, and all those things can be achieved with exercise.” The growing family at Dynamoms Fitness is also being taught by first class and well trained teachers and instructors. It has become the core of making them successful. With the always popular Miriam Amselem teaching the Mommy & Me Yoga Class, students are treated to someone who has been getting people right for a long time. Dynamoms has also
created several classes geared to moms and moms-to-be, believing that being active during pregnancy creates easier labors, healthier babies, and happier new moms. CLASSES All classes have been designed so that mother and child are workout buddies. They also understand that kids do not want to always participate, so they are prepared for that as well. In addition to Mommy & Me Yoga, there is also ZUMBA® with Carolina Delise, who takes the class through a Latin-inspired dance workout that uses footwork and rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggae. Another of the popular classes is where pilates and yoga (PIYO) are in one class. It is a music-driven, athletic workout that strengthens, stretches and tones with dynamic movements. H.I.I.T. (High-Intensity Interval Training)
For moms who are ready to take it up a notch or two, this is a class that is a high-intensity interval training workout, which focuses on full body
strength conditioning paired with cardio bursts. It alternates between intense bursts of activity
CONTINUED ON PG 9
DYNAMOMS Continued From Pg 8 and fixed periods of lessintense activity. “That is something that serious moms come in and take part in, keeping that high level training while they have youngsters to worry about as well,” Analisa pointed out. “We offer so much for so little.” If you are looking to
take part in Dance & Play, Melissa and Daniella are there to provide fun while burning some extra calories. In addition to everything else that’s available, Dynamoms Fitness provides a class designed to enhance muscular fitness (muscular endurance and muscular strength), balance, and improve your shape by sculpting and
defining muscles through the use of resistance equipment, or better yet, your baby! “Weightlifting gives you an amazing workout,” Analisa said. “It gives you an opportunity to workout your glutes, thighs, making you feel stronger and in the best shape ever.” PRICING At a time when gyms
are charging an amazing amount of money just to come in the door, Dynamoms Fitness has found a way to produce Stronger Moms & Stronger Children. Single Classes are $15. If you come three times a week, it’s $99 a month. If you want to come every day as many times as you want, the Unlimited Package is just $129.
“We are a community of moms who enjoy working out with our little ones,” Analisa said. “There are so many packages we can put together, but there
are only 10 spots per class. Call us up and we will give you a great price. Just come by and see what we have and the first visit is on us!”

BACK TO SCHOOL After A ’Short’ Summer, Students, Parents Embrace A New Year By Larry Blustein - Aventura Digest
AUGUST 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 16
After a few months off to hang out with friends and family, students across the area began to filter back to school this week. As many children will start a new school year throughout Northeast MiamiDade, it is something that parents, teachers, administrators and students are anxious to get back to. As security remains a major issue, parents send their kids off to school with heavy hearts - knowing that what happened at Douglas High last February 14th - could indeed play itself out anywhere. “I prefer to look ahead and remain optimistic that the tragedy at Douglas is only something to wake everyone up,” Daniella Khawley said. “I cry when I think of those families who are NOT sending their kids to school this year - because they were tragically taken from them. It’s like a kick in the stomach as a parent.” Khawley insists that her three children, who are in high school and middle school this year, feel safe and know that people around them will always be looking out.
“I embrace this new year - which will be the last for my daughter, who graduates,” Khawley pointed out. “Her and my two sons are ready to get this school year going.” As area schools deal with the issues, with help from the county, it will be all about what happens in the classroom that has everyone excited. As she enters her 24th year as a teacher, Marcy Rodriguez has spent the summer traveling around Europe. She is anxious to share her experiences with her World Geography class. “My kids that I have taught in the past, as well as those who are going to be in my class this year have followed me on Facebook the past month,” she said. “I am so excited to share those experiences that I had in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and the other places we went.” Khawley gives some tips that just may help first time students - as well as those who have been at this for a while. “You are not the only one who is nervous,” she warns. While new students are definitely experiencing a little anxiety,
those who have been there for a period of time, are as well. With brand new classes and teachers, everyone is a little nervous.” She also tells everyone to eat a good breakfast and that question that you may believe is stupid, may not be at all. Important Dates To Remember The Miami-Dade County Public School District has released its 2018-2019 calendar - and as many head back to school on August 20 - there are some important dates to know. The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences. Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year: August 8/20: First Day of School September 9/3: No School (Labor Day) 9/10: No School (Teacher Planning Day)

A Tribute To The Life And Music Of The King Of Rock-N-Roll Chris MacDonald’s impressive ‘Memories of Elvis in Concert’ comes alive at the Parker Playhouse August 18th
AUGUST 2018 • AVENTURA DIGEST • PG 18
Celebrate the Life and music of the King of Rockn-Roll with Chris MacDonald’s Memories of Elvis in Concert at the Parker Playhouse, August 18th. Join Chris MacDonald and his dynamic band and dancers for a full production memorial tribute. On August 16, 1977, we lost one of the greatest entertainers and pop culture icons of all time. Gone but never forgotten, his image, music, films and memory live on as a testament to his true effect and influence on his generation and future generations to come. The original American Idol who influenced the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and anyone that has ever picked up a gui-
tar or a microphone since, continues to engage in our love affair with his All American story of a shy poor and humble country boy that became the King of Rock-n-Roll. Keeping the memory alive at countless venues throughout the country, Chris MacDonald lovingly shares the magic of the “King of Rock-n-Roll” with his tribute Memories of Elvis in Concert, Chris’s show is not an overdone impersonation. It is a natural heartfelt tribute to a legendary performer and music icon. With his high energy concert band, Chris MacDonald draws his audience in with the look, sounds, and nuances that made Elvis, the King of Rock-n-Roll! Adding to the authen-
ticity of his tribute, Chris has the honor of being the only tribute artist hired by Elvis Presley Enterprises to perform at Graceland’s Heartbreak Hotel. An energetic and experienced entertainer, MacDonald has also starred in the famous LEGENDS IN CONCERT stage productions and has performed in Branson, MO, and Las Vegas, NV. He has also performed in Concert with Elvis Presley’s original back up group The Jordanaires and D.J. Fontana. With this newly updated multi-media production, the show will include costume changes, songs and video clips telling the story of the different stages of Elvis’s incredible career includ-
ing the 1950?s, the Movies, the 1968 Comeback and the 1970?s White Fringe Vegas Concerts. It’s all a part of this loving tribute to one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Bring the whole family out to share the music and Memories of Elvis. Mom Was A Huge Inspiration Chris MacDonald’s love for music came from his mother. She was the one person who had a great understanding and passion for some of the iconic performers of all time. While growing up and using some of that knowledge his mother shared with him, the legend that was - and still is - Elvis Presley - was indeed
someone that MacDonald seemed to embrace. His music, style and overall way his entire presence captured audiences - of all ages. That inspiration, and understanding the impact that Presley made, was what motivated MacDonald and drove him to be a performer. Not just someone who would imitate Presley, but pay tribute to a man who gave so many the best of his talents as a singer, actor and a giving man. Sharing Some Memorable Experiences What makes this show extra special, and has indeed thrilled and entertained so many, is that MacDonald not only sings
and performs, but his knowledge and the history of Elvis Presley’s life, gives him a chance to relate stories to the audiences about every song and the meaning behind them. During the concert, MacDonald engages the entire audience with his personality and “Elvisisms” right down to throwing out Hawaiian Leis to the audience, little stuffed teddy bears and, of course, the signature Elvis scarf. Chris Macdonald Has Worked With Some Of The Best An accomplished and experienced entertainer, MacDonald has performed in Las Vegas,

He has also headlined with Elvis’ own original back up group, the Jordanaires and D.J Fontana (Presley’s original drummer) at the famous Hard Rock Live Concert Arena. “When you perform songs such as That’s All Right or Blue Suede Shoes, Don’t Be Cruel and Jailhouse Rock and tell a story or relate something to the audience about each and everyone, it truly brings out the best of everything we are doing,” MacDonald said. A Full Production Show Awaits With a playlist that has everyone dancing in their seats, MacDonald truly
puts on a show that can only be described as a full evening of song, history and a tribute to one of the best ever. His full production show sells out venues throughout the country. The show is not a parody or an overdone impersonation. It is a natural, heartfelt tribute to an American Icon and his music. Adding to the authenticity of his impressive tribute, Chris had the ultimate honor of being the “Only Tribute Artist hired by Elvis Presley Enterprises to perform at Graceland’s Heartbreak Hotel.”

If you grew up with such hits as It’s Now or Never, A Big Hunk O’ Love, King Creole, Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear or dozens of other No. 1 hits, you will want to be in Ft. The surprising health benefits of decluttering (BPT) - Getting your house in order can be a struggle, especially as we age. Sorting through decades of belongings is often emotional and stressful, as questions and decisions pile up: Is this jewelry valuable? What should I do with all these tools I no longer use? Will this china set have sentimental value to my children? But while it can be exhausting, this effort to declutter and simplify can be worthwhile, not only for our homes but also for our health.
can help keep paths clear and obstacles to a minimum. A study at Indiana University showed that people with clean houses are healthier than people with messy houses. Regular household chores like vacuuming and washing windows can be great physical activity. A tidy home can also mean we’re more likely to invite people over - prompting interactions that can help alleviate feelings of depression and isolation that can accompany aging.
The advantages of decluttering Getting rid of things you no longer need or want may have a positive effect on mental health and can also make for a safer environment. It’s a sobering fact that every 12 seconds, according to the CDC, someone over age 64 will fall and end up in the emergency room. Decluttering
Tips to get started With these tips, decluttering doesn’t need to be a dreaded task: • Don’t judge yourself. It’s harder to decide what to do with items that have been in the family for generations than it might be for millennials to decide what to do with items
from their college years. • Take it one room at a time. According to a study by Moen, the most-cluttered areas of a home are the garage, kitchen and home office. The kitchen is a good place to start the decluttering process, because throwing away chipped dishes and expired spices isn’t as taxing as wading through boxes of potentially important paperwork or personal items. Take everything out of the fridge and cupboards and spread it all out on a counter or table so it’s easy to review. Give shelves a good wipe-down and restock them with the necessities, putting goto things within easy reach, and donating or storing appliances and dishes that are used less often. Once you feel good about your progress in the kitchen, move on to tackle the garage, office and other spaces where
belongings tend to pile up. Like closets! • Keep only what you wear the most. Pick a handful of favorite outfits for everyday wear, social outings and special occasions, seasonal wear and wardrobe staples, and donate the rest. If it’s hard to part with handmade or other sentimental items, consider finding creative ways to remember them, such as making a memory quilt of old T-shirts or photographing special items for an album and then letting them go. • Stop the build-up before it begins. Keep a recycling bin handy for unwanted credit card offers and coupon packs before they enter the house, and unsubscribe from magazines and newspapers if
they pile up unread. Eco-Cycle has some tips to cull the tide of junk mail, and mobile apps like Evernote can help collect and digitize recipes, warranties,
instruction manuals and memorabilia to clear away more piles of paper. At the end of the day, it’s OK to hang on to belongings that are near and dear to you. But for items that don’t hold sentimental or functional value, kick-start a decluttering mission today so you can enjoy a tidier, safer home tomorrow.

Doctor Gives Patients Veggies With Cooking Instructions Just Saying “Eat Your Vegetables” Wasn’t Enough Dr. Joseph Galati was talking to one of his patients about the need to put more vegetables into her diet and mentioned that cooking eggplant would probably be a good idea. The patient had never cooked eggplant before and had no idea how to do it. “That is when I realized that I had to do more than just tell people to eat more vegetables,” says Galati (www.drjoegalati.com), author of Eating Yourself Sick: How to Stop Obesity, Fatty Liver, and Diabetes from Killing You and Your Family. “My patients that did try to eat more vegetables would rely on only one or two kinds and they got bored with it so they stopped. They were unaware of the variety of vegetables available and how to prepare them.” With more knowledge about what kinds of vegetables to select and how to cook them, Galati believed more of his patients would comply with his
prescription that they eat more vegetables. So he started the “Great American Produce Giveaway” promotion in his office. He bought a bushel of squash, and then gave his patients a squash in a brown paper bag along with instructions on how to cook it. Different types of vegetables were given away regularly when his patients visited his office. It resulted in more of his patients eating a greater variety vegetables. Patients reported back that this was the jumpstart they needed to improve their nutrition and health. “We had to give them really specific recommendations,” he says. “We have to realize that we are living in a new era of an under-educated and under-informed public when it comes to nutrition.” Dr. Galati offers these tips on getting more vegetables into your diet: Snack with veggies and fruit. Instead of chips or cookies, have healthy alternatives around the house like baby carrots and hummus, celery and peanut butter or a
piece of fruit. And leave these healthy snacks in plain sight. You are more likely to snack on fruits and veggies if they are on the counter instead of tucked away in the cupboard. Make soup. Homemade soups can be a great way to increase your vegetable intake. New veggie of the week. Try to experiment with a new fruit or vegetable each week. Experiment and find interesting recipes for this week’s selection. Vegetable kabobs. Grill colorful vegetable kabobs packed with tomatoes, green and red peppers, mushrooms and onions. Galati says many of his patients enjoyed learning more about vegetables and how to cook them. He added that everybody knows they should eat more vegetables, but a surprising amount of people don’t know how to prepare those vegetables with a meal. But, he says, with a little research on
the internet or with a cookbook, preparing vegetables can be fun, tasty and easy.
Glucose Monitoring Just got Easier. Routine Fingersticks are Now a Thing of the Past. (BPT) - If you are one of the 30 million Americans with diabetes, you know all too well that the painful routine of checking blood sugar levels has remained unchanged for decades. Prick your finger, drop blood on a test strip, insert into a reader and wait. Repeat up to eight times per day. Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects how your body processes blood
sugar. And according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the U.S. is one of the top three countries in the world with the highest diabetes prevalence. “Every year, more than one million people are diagnosed with diabetes and have to learn how to best manage their disease, including adjusting their diet, exercising and closely monitoring their glucose
levels,” said Cher Pastore, MS, RDN, Certified Diabetes Educator, founder and owner of CherNutrition in New York City. “With that comes the dreaded fingerstick, an important but painful and invasive part of managing diabetes that many patients struggle with for most of their lives. Until now, the fingerstick has been the only way to maintain a good handle on

one’s glucose levels and help inform treatment decisions.” But managing your glucose levels just got easier. Last fall, the FDA approved a revolutionary diabetes wearable technology that is unlike any other glucose monitoring technology on the market and is transforming the way people manage their diabetes. The FreeStyle Libre system from Abbott is a personal continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that eliminates the need for fingerstick calibration, allowing for more flexibility when managing your diabetes. It also removes the burden of routine fingersticks - the one step that people with diabetes claim is the biggest reason they don’t test their glucose levels as often as they should. With just a one second scan over a small sensor that is worn on the back of the upper arm for up to 10 days, the FreeStyle Libre
system provides people with their current glucose level, historical trends and patterns of where their glucose has been and a directional arrow showing where their glucose level is going. The FreeStyle Libre system scans through clothing and avoids interference with acetaminophen, an active ingredient in common over-thecounter medications, which can falsely raise reported glucose levels in certain CGMs to appear as if they are at dangerously high levels. The FreeStyle Libre sensor also automatically measures glucose readings day and night and is accurate for insulin dosing.
“Patients have really been embracing the FreeStyle Libre as it takes away the burden of routine fingersticks, while at the same time helping them manage their diabetes,” said Pastore. “It’s easy to use and discreet, and represents a true innovation that empowers patients to make the best decisions about their health.” The FreeStyle Libre system is available in major retail pharmacies. REAL ESTATE How to prep your home for a new addition to the family (BPT) - Whether it’s a baby or pet, a new addition to the family calls for new, unexpected responsibilities, and is bound to come with adjustments for every member of the family. While it would be silly to guarantee zero stress for the new family environment, below are tips for a transition with more playtime and fewer headaches to help you get started.
Here’s what you need to know: Get ready in style: Prep the space with all the necessities needed to make your new addition’s life as happy as possible. Based on the needs of your new child or pet, this could mean turning your home office or game room into a nursery, or finding the perfect doggy door to install in the back entrance. After checking bigticket items off your list, consider how moments such as bath time will change in the new dynamic. Choose a product that is stylish and functional, like the Peerless SideKick Shower System, which has interchangeable attachments for parents, pet and baby. Versatile shower additions create a one-stop shop for everyone in the family, limiting mess and making bath time more efficient (and cost-effective!). Proof! Proof! When you walk through your front door, you are greeted with the comfort and security of being in a space made just for you. With a new baby or pet, that could all change! It is important to take a careful look at your home and proof for all possible dangers and accidents. Move chemicals and
cleaning products onto high shelves, tape electrical cords to baseboards, find ways to secure cabinets and doors that you would prefer not to have curious hands, mouths and noses digging around in, and make sure anything that can induce choking is stored in a safe place, far away from the curious new family member. Budget for two: A new addition to the family means one more mouth to feed and nurture. It is important to prepare for unexpected expenses. Babies and pets are more prone to illness, injury and accidents because they are constantly exploring their environment. Remember to plan ahead by setting up a monthly savings plan to make room for miscellaneous expenses in your monthly budget. Go the extra mile and save more money by buying clothes and accessories from thrift or consignment stores, using family or friends for backup daycare, and asking relatives to babysit or puppy sit. Remember that planning is key. You’ve got this! Playtime: Ensure a stress- and messfree playtime by designating an area for play in your home. If possible, create a gated space to give yourself a sense of control over playtime activities. This will offer peace of mind and allow your new addition to have fun and express themselves without any inhibitions. Bonus: There is less cleanup time as well. For more shower solutions for the family, visit peerlessfaucet.com.

REAL ESTATE Paint like a pro in 5 easy steps (BPT) - Nothing transforms a home quite like a fresh coat of paint. In fact, painting your own house is one of the smartest and easiest DIY upgrades a homeowner can accomplish on their own. “Summer is the ideal time to tackle a painting project, as the warmer temperatures lead to faster drying times, and you can comfortably leave the windows open for better ventilation,” said Megan Youngs, Product Manager at DAP. “Just remember, a little bit of preparation goes a long way toward creating a professional look that will last for years to come.”
Before reaching for a paintbrush, follow these paint preparation tips from the experts at DAP. Clean Up Your Act Paint adheres better to a smooth, clean surface. While living room walls may only need a dry dusting, kitchens and bathrooms, where dirt, grease, oil or mildew can build up, need extra attention. Wash surfaces with soap and water, rinse well and allow them to fully dry. For bathrooms, remove mildew by applying a solution of one-
part bleach to three-parts water and allow the solution to sit for 20 minutes. Then scrub the mildew with a soft-bristle brush, rinse the surface and allow it to dry. Be sure to wear safety glasses and rubber gloves when working with this bleach-and-water solution. Scrape and Sand Now that the surface is dry, smooth down the surface with a bit of fine-grit sandpaper. This is particularly important if painting over a glossy finish, as paint applies more evenly to dull surfaces. In addition, going over the area with sandpaper will help uncover any cracks, holes or dents that could diminish the final look of your project. Another pro tip is to shine a bright light at a low angle across the surface to spot any problem areas. After you have sanded or scraped the area, wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or residue. Don’t Forget the Details - Anyone can paint over a wide, smooth surface, but it’s the attention to detail around windows and doors that truly separates a mediocre job from the pros. Use

painter’s tape to protect window sills, molding, baseboards, door hinges and the ceiling perimeter, taking your time to ensure that every corner is properly protected. These areas are also prone to gaps and cracks. Remove any loose or cracked caulking from windows, doors and trim, and apply a fresh bead of sealant for a smooth, sealed surface. Alex Flex Premium Molding & Trim Sealant is specifically formulated for use on molding and trim applications. The sealant is paintable in just 30 minutes with latex or oil-based paints. Fill It Up - Now it’s time to tackle the main surface. Cracks, holes and dents will mar the finished project, so apply spackle to fill in these areas. Open a container of pre-mixed spackling compound and scoop up a small amount with a putty knife. There’s no need to pile it on. Instead, start with a small amount, and with a shallow knife strike, spread the compound over the hole or crack in a smooth, downward motion. Repeat until the hole is completely filled in. Paint with Precision - Make the job go easier and faster by having a variety of brushes and rollers on hand. Rollers are great for covering large, wide surfaces, but for a professional look around edges and corners, you’ll need smaller brushes for the right amount of detailed work. Moisten rollers and brushes in water beforehand, as this will help the paint glide more smoothly onto the surface. Allow the first coat of paint to completely dry, and then apply a second coat to ensure smooth, even coverage. For more info on DAP visit DAP.com.
