CITY NEWS Brightline Aventura Station Construction West Dixie Highway To Close In Preparation For The Station Brightline is actively constructing new areas of their rail line to bring passengers from their Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach stops to Orlando and beyond. The team is hard at work to continue the exciting expansion plans. Service connecting South Florida to Central Florida is expected to open in 2022. Part of those expansion plans are another three additional stops along the South Florida Express line including stations in Aventura, Boca Raton and The Port Of Miami. With expansion comes construction and West Dixie Highway will be closed soon as part of those plans. West Dixie Highway in northern Miami-Dade County will close through October 2022 as Brightline continues work on the Aventura Station Project. That part of West Dixie Highway, south of the Aventura Mall will close between Northeast 202nd Street and Northeast 195th Street beginning as soon as the beginning of April, continuing through October of this year. Brightline’s Aventura Station will be located across from the Aventura Mall. Here are the details to get your com-
mute organized for the road closures in Miami-Dade County, West Dixie Highway between Northeast 202nd Street and Northeast 195th Street. Construction crews will have a full road closure 7:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7th, 2022 through October 2022. The detour around the closure is as follows: • Southbound West Dixie Highway traffic will be directed to travel west on Northeast 206th Street or Northeast 202nd Street and turn south on Northeast 26th Avenue which joins with West Dixie Highway south of Northeast 193rd Street. • Northbound West Dixie Highway traffic will be directed to continue north on Northeast 26th Avenue and travel east on Northeast 202nd Street to access West Dixie Highway. Motorists are encouraged to proceed with extra caution through the work zones
and adhere to the posted detour signs, speed limits and other signage. Brightline, the only provider of modern, eco-friendly, intercity rail in America, continues investing in advanced safety measures focused on technology, enforcement, engineering and education. Miami Dade Dog Park Advisory: Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex Miami-Dade County Animal Services urges pet owners to protect their dogs against Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex. Due to a recent increase of this disease, there have been many cases of CIRDC reported throughout South Florida. Animal Services urges dog owners to help protect their pets from the spread of the virus by visiting their veterinarian, keeping their dogs current on routine vaccines, avoiding dog parks and other settings with multiple dogs. The virus is highly contagious and can pose serious health risks to dogs. The disease can spread rapidly among dogs that are housed together or those in close proximity to each other such as in ken-
nels, dog parks or grooming facilities. CIRDC is spread by direct contact with an infected dog and by contact with people who have been exposed to the virus. The virus can be carried on people’s clothing, hands and on items such as: food/water bowls, collars/leashes, toys, bedding, etc. • Coughing dogs produce virus-containing mists that can travel 20 feet or more. Symptoms include: coughing, sneezing and discharge from the nose and/or eyes. CIRDC Treatment: • Individuals who think their dog may be showing signs of CIRDC should contact their private veterinarian immediately.
• The virus is easily killed by most disinfectants, handwashing with soap and water, normal laundering of clothing and bedding, washing food/water bowls and toys with soap and water. Adopters & Foster Parents Needed: Animal Services is in need of more adopters and foster families to help take the healthy adoptable dogs out of the shelter and keep them safe from being infected with this respiratory disease. SplashPad Is Open Founders Park SplashPad, the City of Aventura’s interactive water playground for children, opened for the season on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 to Aventura residents. The SplashPad is located in Founders Park’s north section, it is a safe and refreshing recreational water play system composed of nozzles, structures and loops producing an array of water spray options used to cool off, play and enjoy. A great swimming pool alternative, the SplashPad is a safe aquatic play area - even for small children - requiring little supervision because of no standing water and zero water depth. Fish with Bok Choy Prep time: 3 minutes Cook time: 7 minutes Servings: 1 • 1 Minute Brown Rice Cup • Salt, to taste • Pepper, to taste • 1 White fish fillet • 1 Tablespoon of butter • 1 Teaspoon of sesame oil • 1 Teaspoon of grated ginger • 2 Baby Bok Choy, quartered • 1 Teaspoon of soy sauce Heat the rice according to the package’s directions and set it aside. Add the salt and pepper to both sides of the fish, to taste. In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Cook the fish for 2 minutes on each side. Remove the fish from the pan and keep it warm. In the same pan, add the sesame oil and the ginger. Cook it for 1 minute.
Add the Bok Choy to the pan and stir-fry it for 2 minutes. Add the soy sauce; stir to incorporate. Top the rice with the fish and serve it with the Bok Choy.
