COOLIDGE PALMS Assisted Living Resort Coolidge Palms, a member of the Timeless Life Care managed locations, is working hard to keep Florida seniors out of nursing homes. Coolidge Palms is a charming community designed to help those who need assistance with activities of daily living. Just like family, we provide the help they need to maintain a rich, full life while remaining as independent as possible. Our single goal is to provide a resort-like environment, filled with beauty, security and loving care. We treat each of our residents as individuals who are entitled to
respect, time and attention. We offer an exclusive and secured environment tailored to each individual, with amenities such as a botanical garden with exterior seating, spa-like restrooms, grand piano lobby, library fully equipped with a resident computer and billiard pool room. Coolidge Palms has exceeded expectations in fulfilling an ever growing need to keep seniors out of nursing homes by providing high levels of assistance with activities of daily life in a beautiful home-like environment. While most assisted living
facilities have a policy requiring residents to be independent in their activities of daily living, Coolidge Palms accepts residents who are low functioning and requiring maximum assistance with activities of daily living. Activities of daily living include: bathing, dressing, grooming, ambulation, continence, eating, as well as dementia. Coolidge Palms is equipped with the most state-of-the-art equipment and systems. The kitchen is designed, built and equipped to include the latest industrial grade convection ovens, steam tables, heating lamps, ice making machines and more. The facility has a 24-hour
emergency response system with nurse call devices located at each bed and in each bathroom. The building has an integrated fire protection system to include fire sprinklers and early warning features, monitored 24 hours each day by a central monitoring station. The individual rooms are completely furnished, including television and telephone. The bathrooms are all substantially in compliance with ADA and feature the latest in design for “roll-in” showers. At Coolidge Palms, it doesn’t take long for you to feel like you are at a resort. Our residents are surrounded by those who truly care. Living here becomes so
much more than simply getting help with a few daily activities. It’s about receiving that person-

Its professional staff will identify and assess both visible and hidden damage, submit all bills, and take care of any negotiations. There is no out-of-pocket cost for the home or business owner. This helps you to avoid headaches now as well as in the future. The insurance company adjuster wants the best outcome for the insurance company, and may not actively seek out unseen damage that is behind walls or under floors. 1st Priority, however, advocates for the homeowner, and its technicians will use their skills and experience to identify even the hidden damage that may cause problems in the future if it is not fixed.
How Do Leaks Happen? Some leaks happen when water gets in from the outside, such as after a heavy rain or flood. Others can occur within your plumbing system and will unnecessarily increase your water bill. Determining whether you have this kind of leak is easy. Simply read your water meter just before leaving the house for several hours or going to sleep for the night. When you return, or wake in the morning, read the meter again. If no leak exists, the readings should be about the same. If the second reading is higher, you probably have a leak that is driving up your costs and may be

A Hollywood Smile Now Affordable At Brighten Dental Care When it comes to dental health, Dr. Chander Gupta and his staff are always ready to answer any question. DANIA BEACH - A visit to Brighten Dental Care can be downright relaxing. And the reward is a beautiful smile. Brighten Dental Care is a multispecialty office, including Endodontist Root Canal Specialist, Periodontist (gum surgery specialist) and Orthodontist, where a patient can take care of all his or her dental needs. “Our goal is to provide each patient with the very best possible treatment in a way that fits his or her individual needs, expectations, and budget,” Dr. Gupta says. “We will inform a patient of what we think is the best course of treatment.” Dr. Gupta and his friendly staff Kiran
PATIENTS PRAISE DR. GUPTA AND STAFF Dr. Gupta’s patients come from as far away as Port St. Lucie, Key West, and even New York. Everyone there made me feel relaxed and comfortable.” – Megan Nathrgs
“Excellent overall service. I was treated with utmost care, and everyone was extremely friendly. Thank you!” – Heather Stluble “Looks great, no pain” – Amanda Archer Dudek

“Normally I am very scared of the dentist. Hence, I had not been to one in 10 years. But Dr. Gupta was very calming. He assured me that I would not be in pain, and he was right.” – Robyn Almodonai
(Office Manager) Brittney (Patient Coordinator, Elsa (Dental Hygienist), and Marilyn (Senior Dental Assistant) go out of their way to make patients feel at home and their visits enjoyable. Snap-On Smile WHY Snap-On Smile? No shots. No drilling. No adhesives. You can even eat while wearing the Snap-On Smile® appliance. Patients looking for a noninvasive, reversible, affordable approach to restorative and cosmetic dentistry are excellent candidates for Snap-On Smile. It’s an easy, quick and affordable solution for patients who want to feel better, look better, and function better. Patients using Snap-On Smile report an immediate boost to confidence and self esteem. Most are impressed with the natural look and feel of Snap-On Smile and are grateful for the brief time investment - about two weeks - to achieve such life changing results. This revolutionary appliance is the ideal solution for solving a wide variety of short- and long-term clinical challenges, as it serves as both a non-invasive restorative option as well as a diagnostic appliance. Applications include using Snap-On Smile as aesthetic provisionals for implant restorations, as cosmetic removable partial dentures, and even as a long-term smile Laser Dentistry Many people, both adults and children, dread going to the dentist because they fear the Novocain and drilling that have long been the standard treatment for cavities and other tooth repairs. Now, laser dentistry can eliminate the need for both of them. “The laser can cut teeth and gums, fix cavities, do gum and bone surgery,” Dr. Gupta says. Because there is no drilling necessary, the annoying and sometimes frightening sound of the drill is also eliminated. “The dental laser uses water to cut, not the heat of the laser,” Dr. Gupta explains. “It
checks bleeding immediately, making it easy for the doctor to see exactly what he is doing, and it instantly kills any germs it touches, which helps to prevent the possibility of infection. The motto for the laser is, “no shot, no pain, no drilling, no kidding!’ and it’s certainly true.” Electronic Injection, Nitrous Oxide, & Oral Sedation For the times when an injection for anesthesia is necessary, the Midwest Electronic Injection machine makes the process easier and virtually pain-free. The device electronically measures the amount of pressure in tissues so when the liquid anesthesia enters, it is precisely the right amount.” Anxious patients can benefit from nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, and a single oral dose of sedation medication before any injection. “Many fearful patients prefer this type of anesthesia,” Dr. Gupta says. Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain Syndrome Another piece of equipment treats TMJ pain syndrome. The removable retainer type device creates space and flexibility in the jaw, allowing more blood to flow and causing pain to lessen. “TMJ can be a debilitating disorder,” Dr. Gupta says. “With this device, we can help the patient get back to normal.” Professional Whitening Professional whitening can be achieved in two ways: bleaching at home, or with an in-office procedure. With at-home bleaching, the dental professional creates a custom-fitted tray molded to the patient’s teeth. A spacer material coating the tray allows exactly the right amount of bleach into the tray, a process that eliminates overflow or waste. The patient uses the trays at home according to instructions given by the dentist. When bleaching is performed in the office, the dental professional can
carefully control the bleaching material. Some of the brand name bleaching systems being used at Brighten Dental Care are Zoom, Sapphire, and the most powerful, Deep Bleaching System K O R whitening. Gone are the days when straightening crooked teeth required unsightly metal bands, brackets, and wires. Instead, Dr. Gupta is certified in the use of Invisalign, braces that are virtually invisible. Implementing the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, the lab creates a series of precisely customized invisible aligners. Now you can have a beautiful smile with invisible braces within six months to a year, without a metal mouth. The invisible braces are a set of aligners which you change every two weeks. Apart from teens, adults are perfect candidates for invisible braces. No messy and awkward metal brackets and wires, less frequent visits, usually 6 to 8 weeks and Brush and floss as usual. Dental Implants Implants are a wonderful alternative to dentures or bridges. They can also be an adjunct to make dentures more comfortable. Once they are put in, they are as strong as real teeth, and can look just as attractive. “You can replace just a single tooth, or all missing teeth with dental implants,” Dr. Gupta says. Veneer Smile Make-Over If teeth have permanent stains or are uneven, broken, misshapen, or have noticeable gaps, laminates or veneers may be the best way to create a beautiful smile. Dr. Gupta uses an amazing product called Lumineer by Denmat.. These thin porcelain laminates bond to the front of the teeth to create a nearly perfect surface. The procedure is permanent and carries a three- to five-year warranty, although many veneers have been shown to last 15 years or longer. A Perfect Smile For Every Budget With interest free or low interest payment plans from Care-Credit and Chase Health Advance, you can have the quality dentistry now and pay it later in small monthly payments (subject to credit approval). So no more excuses, you can have the extraordinary smile you always wanted without any fear of pain or Pesos.

alized care within a very special neighborhood filled with very special people. As people experience Coolidge Palms for the first time, we often hear how comfortable they immediately feel. Of course, one of the main reasons for that feeling is our residents themself. They are quick to reach out to new neighbors and friends. Another reason for this unsurpassed level of comfort is our outstanding staff. At Coolidge Palms, you will be served by an exceptionally dedicated and caring professional staff who genuinely loves what they do, and it shows! The services rendered well surpass the requirements set by law. Timeless Life Care Owner, Greg Anderson commented, “this is a 24 hour 7 day per week schedule, staffed with certified nurse assistants (CNA). Our resident care coordinators have a minimum of a bachelor degree, which will assist with keeping medications in order, follow through with doctors and other health care professionals, including blood work and x-rays. We help to complete any medical testing and get the results back to the doctor and coordinate the follow-up visit.” Variety is the spice of life, and variety is what we offer. Our activities and social program is designed to blend the different interests of all our residents and develop
camaraderie between our residents, families and staff. Caring for the special needs of dementia call for an extraordinary balance of professionalism and sensitivity. With this in mind, Coolidge Palms’ memory care provides residents a home-like atmosphere of warmth, acceptance and understanding. We provide care for residents with dementia, and other related diseases, such as Parkinson’s, post-stroke and others. A full schedule of events includes crafts, games, shopping trips, barber and beauty shop visits, and other regular activities, on campus and off. We pamper our residents with therapy sessions, with the use of hot cloths, hand and facial massages. Don’t forget to ask about our “Spa Day” with a licensed massage therapist and our “Walking Club”. There is weekly entertainment, picnics in the park, Saturday barbecues at Coolidge Palms with family and outside friends invited, and regularly scheduled services with neighborhood religious leaders. Being in our eleventh year of operations, Timeless Life Care locations are always nearly at capacity. This success has been due to the basic principle of servicing and pampering our residents. Our staff-to-resident ratio exceeds any other facility of its type. Shared room rates starts at $1,495.00 per month, and includes all amenities. Private suites start

causing unseen damage. If you suspect you have a leak, don’t wait. Call 1st Priority Restoration immediately to fix the problem. Is Mold Making Your Home Toxic? 1st Priority specializes in ridding your home or business of mold that may be making the air you breathe toxic. When mold exists, it can exacerbate symptoms of asthma and other respiratory ailments, as well as cause coughing, sneezing, and headaches. And some people are highly allergic to it. What Is Mold? Mold is a living organism that can grow very rapidly under certain conditions. It reproduces by emitting microscopic spores that float through the air and land on damp surfaces, where they begin to feed on the material on which they are resting. Thousands of different kinds of molds exist, and some are known allergens. A few produce harmful chemicals called mycotoxins that can seriously affect many parts of the body. But all molds, in the right conditions and in high enough concentrations, can adversely affect human health. Getting rid of mold is vital to keeping the environment in your home or business a healthy one. A Job for Professionals Detecting and removing toxic mold is not a simple process, and it should be done by a professional. Using the best technology and tools available, 1st Priority Restoration can get rid of the mold in your home or business before it becomes a serious problem. Mold can grow anywhere that moisture exists. Air conditioning ducts are the most common place, but it can also form behind drywall, under carpets, and on furniture and fabrics. And mold may already be growing on a surface that is not yet releasing enough spores so it is visible. The first step in eliminating mold is to do a professional inspection. Just as they do to find water leaks, 1st Priority technicians will use non-invasive thermal imaging to find areas of moisture that are hospitable to spores. To make sure they identify the existence of mold at the earliest stage possible, they will do three types of testing: air quality, wall cavity, and tape samplings. The samples are sent to an outside lab, and results are usually returned within 48 hours. Goodbye, Mold Once technicians determine that mold exists, they remove it completely. It is not enough to kill it, because injurious chemicals and proteins can remain even in dead mold. Permeable material such
as drywall must be treated or replaced. Because spores are released during the removal process, 1st Priority Restoration uses an air scrubber to keep the spores from settling. Then, a special Hepa filtering system effectively traps the spores to clean furniture and other surfaces. After the removal is finished, 1st Priority technicians restore the area to its original condition. OZONE TREATMENT If your home or business has an unpleasant odor due to smoke damage or biohazards, 1st Priority Restoration can help. Technicians will use a highly effective ozone treatment to eliminate the odor and restore the air quality. 1st PRIORITY RESTORATION: THE PLACE TO CALL 1st Priority Restoration does it all. Whatever the source of damage or contamination to your home or business might be, 1st Priority can identify it, repair it, and restore the area to its original condition, all while working directly with your insurance company. (ARA) - Fashion changes with the seasons, and those seasonal switches aren’t just limited to the clothes you wear every day. Fashion forecasters pay equal attention to new hairstyles that come down the runway. It’s easy to adapt to changes in clothing styles - but when it comes to hair, it’s easy to feel like you can’t carry out the looks you love if your hair isn’t the right texture. For those who crave the opposite of the hair texture they were given, the last few years have been revolutionary. Beauty companies and salons have been answering the demand for products and processes to make styling easier with a range of treatments that give better results than ever before. One of the most in-demand styling solutions in recent years has been thermal straightening, which is now being offered in as many as 30 percent of all salons. Many of the products used to perform these services are based on a combination of formalin, keratin and heat to straighten the hair and improve shine, softness and condition of the hair. The service typically lasts for two to six months. As the popularity of the treatment has grown, so have health concerns about the ingredients used in it, including the cosmetic-grade solution of formaldehyde called Formalin. Some potential symptoms of Formalin can include skin irritation, breathing problems and noxious fumes that can be inhaled by the client and the hairdresser during the application process But as demand continues, so does innovation, and a new, safer alternative is emerging for those who want the results of a keratin treatment. Redken’s Shape Control system, which is formulated without formaldehyde, provides permanent thermal straightening, gorgeous curls or luscious waves that are so much a part of
the season’s top hair trends. This treatment, available only in Redken salons, can be adapted to the desires of the customer, and also provides deep conditioning that reduces frizz - a plus, whether you opt for straightening or curling effects. The end result is better manageability, and the opportunity to try some of these leading hair trends of the season: • The pixie cut. Women with curly hair might never have dreamed that a supershort cut was a possibility for them, but a thermal straightening treatment opens that door. Once the hair is straightened, let your stylist start paring down your locks to a super-cute cut like the one Emma Watson sported to revive the style. • The wavy bob. The difference between wavy and super curly is a wide gulf, as those with tight ringlets will tell you. But the gentle waves that have been popularized by the likes of ‘It’ Girl Alexa Chung appeal to both those with naturally straight hair and those with curls - a treatment that gives you just a bit of curl enables everyone to get this casual, versatile style. • Full bangs. Longer, eyebrow-skimming bangs demand a bit more heft, so cutting more hair with give you fuller bangs. However, this can cause a problem if your hair is prone to frizziness - a straightening treatment is the perfect way to get bangs that are guaranteed to behave and keep you flawlessly in style. In years gone by, women had to work within the parameters of their natural hair texture, which meant missing out on a lot of fun trends. But with today’s increasingly safe treatment technologies, like Redken Shape Control, getting the style you want is possible, no matter what kind of hair you were born with. For more information on treatments, trends and styling tips, please visit www.redken.com.

Lifestyles South FL Playwright Michael McKeever’s Premiere Play “Moscow” At Arsht Center
By Eleanor Hannan Aventura Digest
Michael McKeever one of South Florida’s foremost playwrights, comedy “Moscow,” is a comical look at the changing tides in Miami during 1962 and 1963. It examines the lives of three sisters from a once prominent South Florida family whose world is challenged by the lifechanging events of that era. The Kennedy assassination, the Cold war and the sudden influx of Cuban immigration into Miami, set
the stage for an all-out showdown as past and present, east and west all collide in this comic look at how we got to where we are today. Moscow features an outstanding cast of seasoned, award winning South Florida actors whose credits range from local Miami theatre and off-Broadway shows to Broadway stages, now a part of the Arsht Center’s Theatre Up Close Season performed in the Carnival Studio Theatre, in the Ziff Ballet Opera House from March 30 to April 16, 2012. Show times are 7:30 p.m. evenings and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets $40 and $45 available at the box office located at 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. For information call 305-949-6722.

HOROSCOPE Aries (March 21 - April 19) By the time you get to April, you will feel like Hannibal, one of the most celebrated military commanders in history, after he had crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps with his 38,000 infantry soldiers, 8,000 cavalry, and 37 war elephants. It has been a strenuous set of months, hasn’t it, dear Aries? Despite all your efforts, you still don’t have victory, but you are getting close, so keep up your efforts. Taurus (April 20- May 20) Sometimes life has an elegant poetry about it, and you are about to see proof of this later this month. As April begins, however, you may think I have raised your expectations and that nothing is going quite right. That’s only temporary, because admittedly, the first half of April will be a bit off. As soon as we all get through two difficult aspects, life will improve in a very dramatic way. Gemini (May 21 - June 20) There are lots of things to like about April! Your ruling planet, Mercury, will go direct speed in the early part of the month, pushing forward all sorts of projects that have been languishing for weeks. Even though you’ll be anxious to get going, don’t be too eager to dive into plans too quickly. You need to wait a little, because any project or relationship you start would glow more brilliantly if you also wait for Mars to move direct as well, only a little over a week later. Cancer ( June 21 - July 22) On March 22, you had a new moon in your prestigious tenth house of career, but Mercury was retrograde and that spoiled the pudding. Still, you still can use that new moon, so don’t assume you can’t - it’s still strong in the first week of April. That new moon was conjunct Uranus, meaning that extreme and very surprising career news would flow to you, and it likely turned out to be either VERY upbeat and exciting, or very depressing and jarring. Leo ( July 23- August 22) This month may bring landmark news for your career. Indeed, much of the promise that Jupiter, planet of good fortune, portends for your career in 2012 may be delivered in late April or early May. You have every reason to expect a breakthrough. This month begins on a shaky note, as there will be two cosmic storms passing through, with an opposition of Saturn. During these days, for an instant you may doubt me when I say this may become your best month of the year. Virgo (August 23 - Sept. 22) April is a month evenly divided in two, with financial matters dominating your attention the first half, and with lots of fun, relaxation, and possible travel after that. Keep that thought in mind, that a much better atmosphere will be shaping up for you
later in the month when, during the first two weeks, you may feel you are sinking in receipts, checkbook entries, and calculator tape. This emphasis on money is temporary, so be cheered with that thought, too! Libra (September 23 - October 22) As a Libra, you are very sensitive to the concept of fairness, and you honestly expect to find it in all the endeavors and relationships you encounter. Most people in the world are fair, but unfortunately, not all. This month you seem to encounter a person who does not share your worldview or possess your refined level of character. There will be two difficult moments this month, early on, so be strong. Scorpio (October 23 - November 21) Scorpio is known to be a loner, but this month you will see that there is at least one, if not more than one, person in your life that you would like to align with in a close, serious partnership. There are two reasons, of course, that you might be thinking along the lines of merging energies - romantic or business. Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21) What a sensational change in events! When it comes to your career, you must have been feeling like you were walking through glue in recent months. No matter how you tried, it was nearly impossible for you to make progress, as other people whose approvals you needed were either unreachable, indecisive, or confused about whether or not to take the next step with you. Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) This month could bring on a very lyrical, romantic phase, and when it happens, it could be the best you’ve ever seen. It is now possible to meet the love of your life - to have that heart stopping, life changing meeting, promised to you this year from a rare visit of Jupiter and unlocked by a very powerful new moon. Late April will be simply divine, starting with the new moon April 21. Aquarius ( January 20- February 18) This is a big month! Once the new moon arrives, April 21, you are about to see amazing good fortune in regard to home and property matters. The new moon may prove so good for you as to leave you breathless. Be ready to launch into your new residential or family plan the moment that new moon arrives. Pisces (February 19 - March 20) This is a massively important month for you, dear Pisces, on many levels. April will be divided in two parts, with the first part bringing quiet, thoughtful, perhaps somber discussions about finances. The second half, beginning with the new moon April 21, will be just the opposite - full of light, excitement, opportunity, and possible travel.

Achieving a slimmer summer body for swimsuit season and beyond (ARA) - Longer days, bright sun and warm weather can serve as a well-needed dose of motivation to get fit for summer. The trick is to sustain that energy through each changing season as you strive to achieve a healthier lifestyle. If you need some help in developing healthier habits, Weight Watchers Leader and success story Liz Josefsberg, offers five tips to achieving a slimmer summer body by starting now in the spring: Dive into a fresh fitness routine Spring has arrived, so embrace it and all the physical fitness activities you can enjoy in the warmer months. Take a look at when, where and what you’re currently doing to stay active, and shake up your routine with new seasonal activities like swimming, tennis or running outside. Challenge yourself each
month to find a new activity that gets you out and keeps you going through the spring and beyond. Pack portable snacks Hunger can strike while you’re out and about. Avoid the temptations of french fries or chicken fingers available at concession stands. Instead, pack your purse or bag with portable snacks that can stave off hunger and keep you satisfied. Suggestions include sweet sliced apples, reduced fat string cheese, seedless watermelon and even a fresh cucumber salad to help keep you cool. Drink up but skip the calories Keeping hydrated is key to healthy living, but many drinks have the calorie equivalent of a candy bar. To help reduce your caloric intake, alternate sugary drinks with a calorie-free drink like water, sun tea or diet soda. Find water to be too boring? Give
your water some “bling” with seasonal flavors of fresh fruit like lime, lemon and orange. And if you’re heading out for an evening of socializing, look for alcoholic drinks with the least amount of sugar and calories like light beer. Also keep in mind that some all natural fruit juices may have the same calories as the real fruits, but eating an apple is much more satisfying. If you are a Weight Watchers member, a fresh apple has zero PointsPlus values, compared to two PointsPlus values for a half cup of apple juice. Keep your mind focused Taking a vacation doesn’t have to be a reprieve from pursuing your healthy living goals. Avoiding reality can lead to even more weight gain. Get on your scale weekly, even if you enjoyed an overindulgent meal or week-
end, so you can continue moving forward in a positive direction. Slim up your social scene Create a support environment within your social circles by organizing healthy meals and activities. Build your gatherings around outside games like volleyball, golf or even rafting. Hold healthy potlucks and invite your
friends and family to bring their favorite renovated dishes and recipe cards to swap. Get out and enjoy the warmer months. Use Liz’s five tips to succeed this spring in attaining a healthier lifestyle for summer. Visit WeightWatchers.com for more tips, recipes and information about the program.

How to prevent accidental medication poisoning in children dosing medication.” Among young children, 95 percent of medication-related poisoning visits to emergency rooms are caused by a child ingesting medication while unsupervised, and approximately 5 percent are due to dosing mistakes made by caregivers, according to published studies. Safe Kids Worldwide recommends the following tips to protect young children: 1. Always put medicines and vitamins up and away and in a locked location after every use. Never leave them on the counter between dosings. Don’t be tempted to “keep them handy” in a purse, backpack or briefcase, or in an unlocked cabinet or a drawer within a child’s reach. 2. Always read and follow label instructions when giving medicines to children. If your child’s medication does not have dosing information or instructs you to call a doctor for the dose, be sure that the doctor knows the exact product you are trying to use, because dosing differs among products. 3. Only use the dosing device packaged with the medications. Never use a household utensil, such as a teaspoon or tablespoon, to measure medicine. 4. Up to 20 percent of pediatric poisonings involve a grandparent’s medication, according to the Journal of American Osteopathic Association. Make sure that all medications in the child’s environment are stored out of reach and out of sight. 5. Program the nationwide Poison Help number (800-222-1222) into your phones.

(ARA) - Every day in the United States, about 165 kids - or roughly four busloads of children - are seen in emergency rooms for accidental medication poisonings. Medications are the leading cause of accidental child poisoning deaths today, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A new report by Safe Kids Worldwide found that the percentage of childpoisoning deaths due to medications has nearly doubled - from 36 percent to 64 percent - even though the death rate among children from poisoning overall has been cut in half since the 1970s. The report offers several reasons for the increase in medication poisoning: • More medications than ever are in the home, especially prescription pain medication. • The pace of today’s lifestyle may prevent caregivers from immediately putting medicines away in a high, out-of-sight and locked location after every use. • The rise in multi-generational households means children may now have greater access to grandparents’ medications. “More than 60,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year due to accidental medication ingestion when they were unsupervised,” says Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, who released the research. “Every one of those trips could have been prevented. We can and must do better to ensure parents, grandparents and caregivers have the right information when it comes to safely storing and

Lose weight for the wedding, but say ‘I do’ to a healthy lifestyle (ARA) - Since getting engaged, Jillian Brown, 32, from St. Paul, Minn., is hitting her neighborhood fitness center more often. “I’ve added weight training to my regimen,” says Brown, who is planning an August wedding. “I have to get those arms and shoulders wedding dress ready.”
Every bride wants to look great when the big day comes, but how many brides commit to fitting into her wedding dress on their 10th anniversary? Do you want to look good for a day, or feel good for the rest of your life? While considering vows, include a commitment to live
healthfully ever after. That’s the advice from Cliff Edberg, a registered dietician and personal trainer at Life Time Fitness, The Healthy Way of Life Company, in Chanhassen, Minn. “When I work with a bride and her goal is to look her very best the day of the wedding and fit into the

dress she has dreamed about for years, I encourage her to make this a lifestyle change, not just a short-term diet.” Brown, who visits her neighborhood Life Time Fitness, and her fiance both lost a significant amount of weight before meeting each other (70 pounds for him, 40 pounds for her) and plan to stay devoted to their healthy lifestyle as well as to each other. “It’s not just about the wedding pictures - although I want them to look amazing - but also about feeling my absolute best on the day I marry my best friend,” Brown says. Jen Emmert, 30, of Minneapolis, and another August bride-to-be shares the same outlook. “I was overweight my entire life and it was only about four years ago that I decided to make changes. Now that I’m months away from the big day, I want to make sure I’m focused on being the healthiest I can be.” Edberg, says it’s important to celebrate the milestone and good work you put into the wedding day. “Just be sure to continue to set goals,” he adds. Brown is already thinking beyond the wedding day to having a healthy honeymoon. “Just like all of the vacations we have taken, we will seek out meal options that are healthy and satisfying,” Brown says. “While we haven’t decided on our honeymoon spot yet, we are looking at places where we can be active, instead of locations where the
days are filled with lying on a beach.” Once the honeymoon is over Edberg suggests newlyweds rely on each other as their support team. One way to do that is for couples to spend time cooking meals together. “Often people get bored with ‘eating healthy’ but they just don’t take time to explore new food and new ways of preparing food.” Edberg also suggests exploring new ways to exercise together as a couple. “Try to emphasize play in your activity,” Edberg says. “When we have fun during activity, especially together, there is a higher likelihood that it will continue and form a habit.” And the less likely you will be to fall back into old sedentary habits. “No better time than now to commit to a lifelong partnership in health, not sickness,” he adds. Emmert, who chronicled her weight-loss journey in a blog, acknowledges that planning for the wedding day is exciting, but “it’s just one day out of the rest of our lives,” she says. “Working out and being healthy will always need to be a priority, no matter what kind of life event is going on around us.” When the honeymoon is over, life goes on. Will you fit into that wedding dress 10 years later? In 20 years will you still be fit and healthy? In other words, look at the big picture. And you won’t find the “big picture” in your wedding album. Need additional advice or assistance? Visit www.lifetime-weightloss.com.

Five things to consider before sharing photos and videos online
pictures or videos, it’s important to consider how and when to protect your work. It’s something that we teach our aspiring professionals and something that others may benefit from learning.” Take well-known “mommy blogger” Danielle Smith for example: Smith, her family and her blog, ExtraordinaryMommy.com , made international headlines when a family photo - one used for their Christmas card - was taken from one of her sites and used in an advertisement in the Czech Republic. Whether you are an aspiring professional photographer, videographer or just someone who wants to share your unique content with others while still getting credit for it, here are five things Robbins suggests you consider before sharing your work online: • Know what you’re getting into. Read the Terms and Conditions on photoand video-sharing sites like Flickr, SmugMug, Picasa and Photobucket to make sure you fully understand and agree to the terms. Notice if the site has a designated copyright agent, displays a take-
down procedure and has a clear copyright policy. • Obtain a Creative Commons license and share your original content on sites that honor those licenses, like Flickr,
“sumo,” then use words that are more conceptual to the image, like “big,” “strong,” “powerful” and “wide body.” • Consider your audience before you share. Are they trustworthy? Will they give credit where credit is due? Use programs that allow you to have control over your audience, and that let you select your own privacy settings to ensure you have full control over how and with whom your content is shared. • Make it your own. Consider developing your own website or blog to post your original content so that it’s always tied back to your personal brand. Include a copyright disclaimer on your site. Then spread links back to your site through your social channels.

(ARA) - More people are sharing photos and videos online with friends and family, as well as those they’ve never met. Consider this: One hour of video is uploaded to YouTube every second. Pinterest, which lets people collect and share digital images, has grown to about 12 million users since launching in 2010. The growth of these and other websites makes it easier for videos and images to be shared and reshared online - or at least end up in places beyond where they were originally posted. “With the advances in smartphones, digital cameras and social websites, more people are becoming interested in photography and videography, and they’re able to share their work broadly and quickly with others,” says Bill Robbins, an award-winning advertising photographer, commercial film director and current program chair of professional photography at Brooks Institute, a leading provider of higher education for film, graphic design, and photography. “But no matter if you’re a professional, amateur or simply enjoy taking and sharing
Pinterest and YouTube. Creative Commons licenses - www.creativecommons.org - help creators retain copyright while allowing others to copy, distribute, and make certain uses of their work. Every Creative Commons license also ensures licensors get the credit for their work they deserve. • Keywording is key. “Keywording a photo is almost as important as the photo itself to drive people to your image online,” says Robbins. “Think of keywording as drilling for oil. You start with the obvious word and then keep drilling down until there is nowhere else to drill.” For example, if your image features a sumo wrestler, start by tagging your photos with words you think people will use to search for your particular image, like

(ARA) - Being paid to shop - a dream come true, right? Not so fast. While legitimate “mystery shopper” programs that pay people to shop and provide feedback on their experience exist, there are a number of scams out there that use “mystery shopping” as a cover. Western Union has teamed up with the Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA) to provide the following tips on how to recognize whether a mystery shopping offer is legitimate: • You should never be asked to pay to sign up as a shopper. On the other side of the coin, legitimate mystery shopper programs will also never pay individuals before the actual shopping is completed. No real mystery shopping pro-
gram would take the chance of sending individuals a check for work that has yet to be done. • Don’t assume that official-looking feedback
forms provided for your use make the offer legitimate. • If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There are no mys-
tery shopping jobs paying over $20 available to the general public who have never shopped for a mystery shopping company in the past.
