Finding a dependable farmers market is never an easy thing to do. But things have changed, and one of the best you've ever experienced, is right here in South Broward. The Brothers Farmers Market was established in 2003 by Hollywood citizens that had a vision for a farmers market - with the support of the City of Hollywood. Since then, and today, the Brothers Farmers Market is run by a steering committee of citizen volunteers, city liaison, and vendor input, making it the best experience of its kind. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– BROTHERS, Page 6A

Small Business Forum shows how you can thrive online; Fall Harvest is under way By Mayor Joy Cooper HALLANDALE BEACH - Last Friday the city hosted a Small Business Forum in partnership with the Hallandale Beach Chamber - to Kick off The Google “Get Your Business on Line” Competition. As Trustee Mayor in the US Conference of Mayors, I was happy to introduce the program to our city. The goal is to make sure every business in our community
has the opportunity to take advantage of free on line presence. In today’s economy there are over 253 million internet user. Ninety-seven percent of them look for goods and services on the web. Regretfully, more than 58 percent of businesses are not on the web. In Hallandale Beach, we want to make sure all our businesses are found on the web. The days of pulling
out the yellow pages to find a business have become almost obsolete. Most individuals pick up a smart phone to find restaurants, stores, the closest gas station, plumber, doctors, etc. Many business and households look for all types of goods and services online. If you do not have a web presence, your business is being over looked. If you are in business and do not have a
website you can now visit GYBO and sign up for a web address free for one year. On the GYBO site you will find a free program to design your very own website. Our IT Director Tom Amburgey gave a wonderful presentation on the many statistics on the growing world of the web and explained the GYOB process. We also were fortunate to have to other partners present.

Other project- related work includes: installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components; bridge widening; and building noise walls at some locations between Hollywood Boulevard and Taft Street. Construction began in November 2011, will last approximately three years and will cost an estimated $106 million. FALL HARVEST DRIVE Since 1992, schools throughout our community have been participating with the Annual Harvest Drive, collecting food and items to make sure that needy families have a Thanksgiving meal. As we enter the holiday season, it is important to remember those who are struggling to put food on the table for themselves, their children, and their families. In partnership with the Broward County School Board the City of Hallandale Beach is partnering with the Hallandale Beach schools to collect items as part of their Annual Harvest Drive. Boxes will be placed at City Hall, DPW, Parks, Human Services, Po-
lice and Fire. The School Board will take any items but the following items have been assigned to the Hallandale Schools. We hope our whole community participates. Here is a list of foods that each school in Hallandale is collecting; Hallandale Elementary (500 cans sweet potatoes, 250 boxes or bags of pasta or rice, 50 boxes cereal/oatmeal); Hallandale HS (1000 canned veggies, 500 canned gravy, 75 boxes of cereal/oatmeal), Gulfstream Middle School (250 pancake mix, 125 pancake syrup, 125 packs of napkins, 75 boxes of cereal/oatmeal, Lanier James, 125 toothpaste, 125 bars of soap or body wash), Hallandale Adult (125 bottles of laundry detergent, 125 bottles dish detergent). Mrs. Hanna Tennenhaus, 89, a friend of Dr. Henry Kissinger who survived the Holocaust Mrs. Hanna Tennenhaus, a long-time resident of Montreal, Canada, passed away on Simchas Torah, 23 Tishrei 5774, September 27, 2013. A Memorial Service for her will be held in Hallandale Beach, on Tuesday, October 29, at 8PM. The Service will take place at Chabad of South Broward Headquarters, 1295 East Hallandale Beach Blvd. Program will include family members reflecting on her legacy, great grandchildren singing traditional Jewish songs, the conclusion of the Six Orders of the Mishnah, a booklet that includes some of her writings, and a Dinner. She was 89. For a number of years, she lived in Hallandale Beach. Born on the 3rd day of Chanukah (December 5, 1923)in Fuerth, Germany, to Raphael and Adele Faust, she was sent on the final Kinderstransport to London, England, where she survived the War. Her parents were killed Al Kiddush Hashem (in the sanctification of G-d's Name) in the Concentration Camp in Riga, Latvia. Her paternal grandfather, Rav Mordechai Yehuda Leib Faust, a descendant of the Koznitzer Magid, (a
Hanna Tennenhaus founder of Hassidism in Poland) knew the entire Talmud by heart, and was the Rav of the Klaus Shul in Fuerth, a city which had a rich Jewish and Torah heritage. Many books on Torah commentary had their first printing in Fuerth. In Fuerth the Fausts were close to the family of Dr. Henry Kissinger. This friendship was maintained until today. Kissingers's father helped arrange for Mrs. Tennenhaus to receive compensation from the Germans. Many years later, because of this friendship, Mrs Tennenhaus' son Raphael had a meeting with Kissinger, gave him a book written by Mrs Tennenhaus, and had Kissinger inscribed in one of the Torah Scrolls for Jewish unity, which was one of the Mitzvah Campaigns of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M
LACE
Schneerson, (19021994). In 1949, she married Reb (Avrohom) Dovid Tennenhaus, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. The young couple received a letter from the previous Rebbe for their wedding. They were a pioneering couple in spreading Yiddishkeit ( Judaism) from the day the Rebbe became Rebbe. Her husband received over a hundred letters from the Rebbe, many of them addressing the spreading of Yiddishkeit in Bathurst and its surroundings, a small town in the Maritimes over 500 miles away from Montreal. In 1953, Mrs Tennenhaus had a long private audience with the Rebbe. She was accompanied by her two older children, the late Rabbi Yisroel Tennenhaus, z''l, and the late (Chaya) Aydel Lebovics ,z''l. At the end of that audience, the Rebbe told her: "You requested blessings for many people, but you neglected to ask a blessing for yourself." Mrs. Tennenhaus was a highly accomplished novelist, writer and poet. She penned a novel "Eva" in 1959, with the encouragement and blessings of the Rebbe. Although at
that time, Holocaust books were not that common, her novel was a bestseller at the time, depicting her life in pre- war Germany, London during the war, her move to New York, and eventually settling in Canada. Eva is 70% non-fiction, 30% fiction. She barely survived the Holocaust and left the world with some 80 descendants. "My mother left a legacy of tremendous faith in Gd, uncompromising modesty, and genuine joy of life", her son Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus remarked. She is survived by her children Esther Solomon - Efrat, Israel; Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus - Hallandale Beach, Florida, and her older siblings, Mr. Joe Faust - Cote S. Luc, Quebec and Mrs. Francis Frankel Washington Heights, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she adored and had a special relationship with so many of them. She was predeceased by her husband Reb Avrohom Dovid Tennenhaus (3 Tishrei 1993), her older son Reb Yisroel Tennenhaus (16 Kislev 2008), and her older daughter Chaya Aydel Lebovics (15 Elul 2001). Contributions in her memory can be written out to : The David and Hanna Torah Library, c/o Chabad of South Broward , 1295 East Hallandale Beach Blvd, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009. To contact
Rabbi Tennenhaus, please email rtennenhaus@gmail.com . To reserve for her Memorial, Tuesday

With the real estate market showing signs of improvement, local realtors – especially those who list in the Sun-Times – are expected to have a great season as well. More and more interest in moving to this slice of paradise has helped to peak the market, which has really taken a hit during the ongoing recession. “To me, as a resident here, I know we are truly blessed at what we have to offer year round,” Ken Snider of Hollywood said. “Also, as a business owner, I can personally say that we always welcome new faces.” With Gulfstream Park, the Village of Gulfstream and Mardi Gras Racing & Casino all continuing to make huge growth strides, it’s many of the local shops and restaurants that depend on that steady flow of business that takes place five months out of the year. The winner during the long summers are usually cities that do their part to keep a general flow of visitors coming in. From car shows and art festivals to food and business expos and even attracting some of the best gourmet food trucks, what cities create for residents and visitors alike, can go a long way in the economic picture. One of the politicians who is always trying to drum up events and promote as many things as possible is Hallandale Beach commissioner (former Vice Mayor) Bill Julian. What Julian has done for years is attempt to bring events to every part of the city. Not just the east and the two main attractions. “We are proud of the direction that we are going in, here in Hallandale Beach,” Julian pointed out. “But like so many other cities around us, it becomes important to have community-based events that bring in crowds. We have many, many venues to use.” Having destinations such as the Aventura Mall, the horse track and greyhound facility are all great, but the true essence of community is to take care of the smaller businesses. The ones who still practice customer service. Those smaller, family-run companies – while fading quickly from the landscape of our society – still remain the glue today!

PARKER PLAYHOUSE BRINGS THE MAGIC OF BILL BLAGG TO SOUTH FLORIDA: Mr. Blagg’s love affair with magic began at the age of five when he received his first magic kit. From then on, he would perform for his friends, family and classmates. At that young age, he decided to become a professional magician. At age
eighteen, he entered "Abbot’s Get Together" in Colon, Michigan, one of the premier events in magic at the time and became the youngest person ever to win the adult competition. After that taste of success, he entered the Carthage school and began to learn the nonmagic skills necessary to become a professional magician like his hero David Copperfield. Unfortunately, the classes did not offer a degree in magic. However, he used the tools he learned to turn his love of magic into a successful career as a magician. Bill chose to put his skills to work in 1998 by entering the adult stage competition at the "Magic Get Together" in Colon, Michigan, hailed as the magic capital of the world. He had performed hundreds of shows all hinged on a single five minute rou-
tine, he called his dancing handkerchief. He was the youngest contestant to ever win this prestigious event. Bill Blagg will dazzle and wow his audience with his incredible high-energy 90 minutes of interactive, actionpacked magic show at Parker Playhouse on November 2nd, 2013 at 8 p.m., making this show a great family event. Tickets are $25.50 and $35.50 at the Playhouse box office Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Located at 707 Northeast 8th Street, Fort Lauderdale. For more information, call: (954) 462-0222. Hollywood Police Takes Aim at Traffic Safety HOLLYWOOD - The Hollywood Police Department is working hard to reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in the City of Hollywood. The Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit recently conducted a traffic crash analysis to identify high frequency crash locations in the City. The analysis identified the eastern section of Young Circle, the intersection of North 29th Avenue and Sheridan Street, and the intersection of Sheridan Street and North Ocean Drive as the three most common traffic crash locations east of Interstate 95. The most common traffic accident locations west of Interstate 95 are the intersections of Sheridan Street and US-441/State Road 7, Hollywood Boulevard and US-441/State Road 7, and Sheridan Street and North Park Road. The analysis also found that most traffic fatalities in Hollywood since 2011 occurred along the Sheridan Street corridor west of I-95 during the afternoon to late evening hours, with speeding and aggressive driving being cited as contributing factors. The Hollywood Police Department has implemented a twopronged traffic safety initiative of enforcement and education to try to curb traffic accidents and fatali-

Dr. Cornell Calinescu, Healthy Hallandale Medical Center giving back to the community Dr. Cornell Calinescu has always been the kind of physician who is one of those out-of-the-box thinkers. He went beyond the coughs, colds bumps and bruises to become part of the life of his patients. He is someone who truly cares. Always staying busy with so many endeavors in his life, his private practice was just a small part of what his work week is like. His resume is impressive. Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine with a sub specialty in geriatric medicine and Voluntary Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Voluntary Assistant Professor of Emergence Medicine Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Clinical Medical Instructor at Ross University, College of Medicine. But beyond all those things that he does every day - Dr. Calinescu - is someone who has always given back, and that's where the Healthy Hallandale Medical Cen-

Always providing food for those medical representatives who take time to come by and showcase their newest wares, it was an awkward but rewarding moment that this Florida and Tennessee licensed physician recalls fondly. "One of the patients who was waiting to see me, asked if they could have some food," Dr. Calinescu remembered. "I thought for second, and then said why not." What Dr. Calinescu soon found out was the patient was actually homeless and lived in the car with her husband while the children were at friends. "Wow, I was floored," he recalled. "Here are two people who are my patients and they had very good jobs, but one thing led to another and this is where they were in life." That moment was an eye opener, and for the first time in his life, Dr. Calinescu realized that while he couldn't change the world, he could make a difference. "I felt that I would not

Living with diabetes and maintaining healthy vision
• In the U.S. today, diabetes affects approximately 25 million people, or 8 percent of the population (BPT) - In 2012, diabetes health costs in the U.S. were $245 billion, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that by 2020, one in every three health care dollars in the U.S. will be spent on diabetes-related care. Diabetes is now the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults aged 2074 years, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Maintaining healthy blood vessels is essential for preserving healthy vision, especially those located in the retina in the back of the eye that are partic-
ularly susceptible to damage. The need to preserve blood vessel health is supported by the projected rise of diabetes in the U.S. population. In the U.S. today, diabetes affects approximately 25 million people, or 8 percent of the population. The most common form of diabetes, type 2, accounts for 90 percent of diagnosed cases. Another 79 million people are at risk for developing diabetes, and nearly 2 million new cases are reported each year. It is estimated that 7 million people have undiagnosed diabetes, and that by the year 2030,
Does TV violence really influence children? By Dr. Ron My sister allows her pre-adolescent children to watch everything on TV or in the movies including very violent shows. I have told her this can’t be good for the kids, and she scoffed it off, claiming that there is no proof that violence on TV influences aggression in children. In fact she bet me $100 that this is so… Who’s right? A.C.N Miami You can take her money to the bank… There seems to be little doubt anymore that media violence does promote aggressive modeling behavior for children…This relationship was first investigated by renowned psychologist; Dr Albert Bandura. Bandura in 1961, conducted a classic study, known as the “bobo doll” experiment. Nursery school children involved in the study were exposed to one of three experimental situations. Children in one group were allowed to sit quietly, drawing pictures, when from a different part of the room, an adult entered where a bobo doll happened to be placed. A bobo doll is one of those inflatable, balloon type dolls, that pops back up every time you knock it down, and for about 10 minutes the adult repeatedly knocked the doll down, punching, kicking, and yelling at it. The two other groups of children were not exposed to this outburst. Afterwards all the children (those witnessing the adult’s outburst, and those who did not) were taken to a different room filled with various toys, including a bobo doll. As what might be expected, children who were exposed to the adult’s attack were much more likely to assault the doll, than the 2 other groups of children who did not witness the adult’s violent act. Bandura’s experiment was only the starting point that instigated hundreds of other studies exploring the relationship between media violence and its influence on children. One such longitudinal study (Leonard Enron, 1987) took over 22 years to complete. The author started by measuring a group of children’s exposure to media violence at age 8, and by yearly tracking of the subjects, found out that media violence was predictive of criminal activity 22 years later! Some critics point out however, that the link between exposure to media violence and actual aggression from might work in reverse; that aggressive children may just be more prone to watch violent shows than less violent children… (Don’t show this part to your sister, she may ask you to let her off the hook on a technicality!)… But there is no doubt that the overwhelming majority of child experts agree that while not all children respond alike, it is clear that you can reduce aggressive behavior in most children by limiting their exposure to media violence.
more than 500 million people worldwide will have diabetes. BEING PROACTIVE ABOUT YOUR EYE HEALTH The National Eye Institute states that more than 40 percent of people with diabetes have diabetic eye disease. The most common form is diabetic retinopathy, which usually affects both eyes. However, many patients with diabetic retinopathy may experience no symptoms at all until the condition progresses. There are two forms of diabetic retinopathy: nonproliferative retinopathy and proliferative retinopathy. Nonproliferative retinopathy occurs when blood vessels in the retina become weak, resulting in tiny bulges within retinal capillaries that may allow leakage of fluid and blood. If the central part of the retina that is responsible for good detail and color vision, the macula, is affected, vision loss may occur (a condition called diabetic macular edema or DME). Proliferative retinopathy is when abnormally fragile new blood vessels that grow on the surface of the retina in an effort to improve circulation
may bleed profusely and cause growth of fibrotic scar tissue that detaches the retina from the back wall of the eye (tractional retinal detachment), resulting in severe vision loss or even blindness. The longer a patient has diabetes, the more likely they are to develop some level of diabetic retinopathy. Of the approximately 25 million people with diabetes in the U.S., 9.6 million have some level of diabetic retinopathy, while another 3 million have sight-threatening retinopathy (STR). Most diabetes patients will eventually develop nonproliferative retinopathy and a significant number will develop DME, but the more serious, proliferative retinopathy, is less common. As diabetic retinopathy progresses, patients may experience spots or floaters, red veils or streaks, blurred vision, a dark or empty spot in the center of their vision, and difficulty seeing well at night. Significant damage to the retina occurs long before patients develop any of these symptoms. Several factors influence if and when a patient develops diabetic retinopathy, including blood sugar control, blood pressure levels, how long the patient has had diabetes, poor nutritional habits, cigarette smoking, and inherited genes. All of these factors can lead to blood vessel breakdown in the retina, but keeping blood sugar levels closer to normal reduces the risk and severity of diabetic
retinopathy. Patients with diabetes or those at-risk should always engage in healthy nutrition, exercise, and consult with a physician as well as a diabetes educator. To preserve healthy vision, patients with diabetes should get an annual dilated eye exam from an eye doctor experienced with diabetes. They should also see a retina specialist if STR is detected during an eye exam. Finally, science-
based nutritional supplements for the eye, like EyePromise, may support retinal health by helping to maintain healthy blood vessels in the eye. The adverse effects on eye health and vision caused by diabetes can be debilitating, but patients with diabetes can significantly reduce their risk of vision loss by proactively managing their health.
Don't be embarrassed (NewsUSA) - Do you or someone you know take a medication to alleviate a condition like chronic pain, or perhaps to treat high cholesterol or high blood pressure? Well, while treating your issue, the medication may also cause a side effect that many of us don't want to talk about... constipation. That's right, while your medication can effectively manage your condition, it might also occasionally cause your bowels to "clog up." Constipation is really not that unusual, so you don't have to feel embarrassed to talk about it with your doctor or pharmacist. The list of culprits include certain products from classes of medications such as analgesics, high blood pressure medications, and high?cholesterol drugs. Occasional constipation can be uncomfortable, but there should be no shame in discussing this condition with your health-care provider. It's important to talk to your doctor about any side effects that you may experience while taking prescription or over-the-counter products. If you become constipated, try Senokot-S Tablets. Senokot-S Tablets contain a natural vegetable laxative ingredient, plus a stool softener, to provide gentle, overnight relief from occasional constipation. Please read full product label before use. It's time to finally make that important dental implant decision
Natural teeth and dental implants may look the same, feel the same, and even function in a similar way, but they are very different.
HOLLYWOOD - You have put off getting dental implants for long enough. The price has always been too high - or you just do not know enough about them to make that life-changing decision. What ever barriers there were in the past are now put to rest as Dr. Richard Silver and his associates at Elite Dental Practice in Hollywood offer a way to make you look and feel better. With a FREE implant consultation, Dr. Silver can now help you make those changes for as little as $999 (regular $1,500) and crowns for as little as $799. "The one thing that we find out in dentistry these days is that patients are never explained the many options they have," Dr. Silver and his associates point out. "When you come in and talk with us, you leave more informed and ready to make that next step." While many dentists continue to offer implants, actually sitting down and explaining all facets of the procedure, is not something that is routine. Dr. Silver and his associates have spent a career on
making sure that their patients understand everything. DENTAL IMPLANTS A dental implant is a prosthetic replacement for a missing tooth. Natural teeth consist of the crown and the root. The crown is the visible section that is covered with white enamel. Supporting the crown is the tooth root which extends into the jawbone. The root is the part of the tooth that is effectively replaced by an implant. There are commonly three parts to what is described as an implant - the implant device itself (which is inserted directly into the bone); the abutment - the piece that connects the implant device to the third part - the overlying crown or denture. Today's implants are predominantly made of titanium, a metal that is bio-compatible and offers strength and durability as well as a unique property of fusing directly to bone the process known as osseointegration. Other materials, such as zirconium, might be used to make implants in the future. But for now, these materials have not been perfected for general use.
PATIENT TESTIMONIALS "After searching for a caring, compassionate, conscientious, and competent dentist, I finally found Elite Dental Center. Not only has Dr. Richard Silver continually provided stateof-the-art treatment but he responds promptly to emergency situations with phone calls, as well as with follow-up appointments. Dr. Silver is unique among dentists. He really cares about his patients, taking time to fully explain all the treatment procedures that are to be performed in an easily understandable way. If all dentists were like Dr. Silver there would be no dental phobia in America and appreciably less visits to the dentist," says Hugh B. "Dr. Silver is just great. A friend recommended him to me, and it took only one appointment for me to switch to him from my old dentist. He did an outstanding job filling a cavity my old dentist had done a terrible job on. And he did what's certainly the best cleaning job I've had in years. In all, he's extremely thorough, meticulous, careful, and knowledgeable. On top of that, he's a super nice guy -- funny and easy going (yet very professional). The staff is just as nice and helpful. I highly recommend him,” says Raul S. "Dr. Silver is efficient and runs on time. I really appreciate that of him. I don't have to wait a long time to get an appointment either. His staff is courteous and Dr. Silver cares about patients and dentistry," says Patricia D.
DENTAL IMPLANTS VS. CONVENTIONAL DENTURES Implants can be used to replace one missing tooth so that the replacement looks and feels natural. Also, two or more implants can serve as a stable support for the replacement of many teeth. Many patients who have selected dental implants describe a quality of life that is much more comfortable and secure than the lifestyle endured by those with fixed bridges or removable dentures. Dentures often make a person feel and look older than they are, cause embarrassment in social situations when they slip and click, and restrict the everyday pleasure of eating comfortably. When they count the benefits they enjoy as a result of their dental implants, patients say their implants eliminate the day-to-day frustrations and discomfort of ill-fitting dentures. They allow people to enjoy a healthy and varied diet without the restrictions many denture wearers face. With a sense of renewed self-confidence, many people rediscover the excitement of an active lifestyle shared with family and friends and the chance to speak clearly and comfortably with co-workers. For all these reasons, people with dental implants often say they feel better... they look better... they live better. AM I A CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS? Generally speaking, if you have lost teeth you are a candidate for dental implants. It is important that you are in good health, however, as there are some conditions and diseases that can affect whether dental implants are right for you. For example, uncontrolled diabetes, cancer, radiation to the jaws, smoking, alcoholism, or uncontrolled periodontal (gum) disease may affect whether dental implants will fuse to your bone. It is important to let your dental surgeon know all about your medical status (past and present) together with all medications you are taking, whether prescribed, alternative (herbal) or over-the-counter. Where and how implants are placed requires a detailed assessment of your overall stomatognathic system
tory response to bacterial biofilm of the tissues surrounding the implant, which can result in disintegration of the bone to the implant. All major insurance plans and credit cards are accepted. If you don’t have dental insurance, no problem, they will work out a payment plan with you. Walk-Ins are Welcome! Languages spoken: English, Russian, Spanish, Hebrew.

• What ever barriers there were in the past are now put to rest as Dr. Richard Silver and his associates at Elite Dental Practice in Hollywood offer a way to make you look and feel better (“stoma” – mouth; “gnathic” – jaws), within which the teeth function. This will necessitate compiling records that include study models of your mouth and bite, and specialized radiographs (x-rays), which may include 3D scans known as computerized tomograms (CT scans). Planning with the help of computer imaging ensures that dental implants can be placed in exactly the right position in the bone. HOW DO IMPLANTS DIFFER FROM TEETH? Natural teeth and dental implants may look the same, feel the same, and even function in a similar way, but they are very different. The most important differences are in the way they attach to the surrounding bone, their response to dental disease, their maintenance, and repair. Teeth attach to the surrounding bone by a periodontal ligament (“peri” – around; “dont” – tooth) made up of collagen fibers that join into the tooth on one side and bone on the other. Dental implants fuse directly to the bone. The gum tissues also attach to the root of a tooth with collagen fibers as described above. However, gum tissues can only stick to the surface of dental implants.

Trend in nostalgic nosh brings new flavor to fine dining (BPT) - Seasoned tots with your filet mignon? Fries with parmesan cheese and truffle oil? But of course. Comfort foods with sophisticated flair are plated in abundance at the finest restaurants around the country, as chefs reinvent potato sides like fries and tots with new dips, toppings and custom spice blends. Excitement continues to build as these nostalgic dishes from the kiddie table can now be found making their way to grownups' plates. In fact, Bon Appetit touted the "Return of the Tot" earlier this year and Business Insider, recently named fries the new "it" menu item for upscale New York City restaurants in 2013. Lucky for potato lovers, recreating restaurant-quality fries and tots at home can be as easy as preheating your oven, no culinary degree needed. Frozen food companies like Alexia offer a wide variety of premium fries and other potato sides that serve as the perfect starting
skin with olive oil and rub all over; season with plenty of salt and pepper. Place the chicken breast-side up in a roasting pan; roast for 1 hour, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thigh registers 165 F. Let the chicken rest 15 minutes before carving. While the chicken is roasting, prepare the lettuce and peas. Combine the wine, red onion, bay leaf, peppercorns and a pinch of salt in a saucepan; simmer over medium heat until the mixture is syrupy and just coats the bottom of the pan. Whisk in the butter cubes, a few at a time, to thicken the sauce and give it a shine. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm. (Remove the peppercorns and bay leaf before serving.) Place the peas in a small pot of salted boiling water until heated through; drain. Toss the peas, lettuce and warm butter sauce in a bowl until the lettuce wilts slightly.
